Everyone has kept saying how the G4 is more for a regular tuned guitars while the G3 is for lower tuned guitars, but your demo has shown me that I really want the G4 more than the G3 for my seven string guitar. Thanks for shedding better light on this where other channels don't. I guess the real question for me is do I get the Revv G4 pedal or the Diezel Herbert pedal on Black Friday? lol
Leon Todd will definitely be interested to hear it in the front end of an amp direct. I've got the deluxe reverb so no loop. The MI tubezone gets a very nice heavy tone but this g3 might have the edge.
Sounding and playing is excellent. Love that sound. That king's x riff sounded awesome!!! I just ordered the G3 now I need the G4. I wish I knew about Revv sooner.
I'm not much of a pedal guy, yeah I've got a few. However, very much enjoyed your presentation of both of these pedals! Thank you so much for sharing brother! Be Well Leon!
I have two G2s, a G3, and a G4. I run them into my CAB M+ (with the Revv 212 and 412 WGS loaded cab sims depending on my mood) and get great tones. I use two G2s becuase one I have set for a cleaner edge of breakup tone that sounds great with the volume rolled back a bit and picking lighter. The second G2 has more gain and more akin to a late 60s early 70s Marshall. The G3 and G4 are great for high gain. One sorta reminds me a bit more of modded Marshall/SLO, while the other is a tad more Mesa-esque.
Got my G3 yesterday I'm in love with the pedal the g4 was or is a bit to harsh poky to me and if you tweak the knobs of the G3 you can achive the tone of the G4
I think the G3 is much better! G4 seems a bit fizzy. Also, you can get into G4 territory by using an overdrive/boost in front of the G3. G3 is the one I am going to buy...
I’m old-school, neither of these get that gnarly metal sound of the late 80s and early 90s. For example, a BOSS Metal Core is so versatile. Can get fizzy and a little fuzzy like these revv pedals, and great for getting that scooped mids honk as well. Any other old-school guys here, prefer something similar? I wanted to try to get maybe more of a modern tone that I’m hearing, but just doesn’t sound the same live and loud.
Not true. First of all... there's a few different metal sounds from the late 80s early 90s. Namely, the american thrash metal sound (high gain and scooped mids) and the more classic metal tone (medium gain full tone). G3 gets closer to the classic metal tone, the G4 closer to the thrash metal tone. I prefer BY FAR the classic metal tone, but both have their own charm. I think you can get either with the G4, by fiddling with the EQ and aggression modes, but the G3 is already too compressed to get that thrash metal sound. But because of that, it has a thicker, more produced sound and most people gravitate to that one initially.
@@emartinezr Not true!? I think you mean, you have a different opinion. 😝😭🙃 Sounds like you might not remember the 80s. But I am getting used to the Revv 4 a bit. Figured I will keep it on my board for now. It was just tough to filter out those mids. Ended up just turning the mids way down on my power ramp, and pretty low on the pedal. So, it does cut through nicely. Still like that metal core. But in a band mix, I can see some use also for the Revv. 😝🤘🏻🇺🇸🎸
Holy hell wait a sec those things melted my face away when combined. I really need to learn to riff like you tbh. Gonna try and learn some Ragdoll songs in the near-ish future
Kudos for the King’s X riff! What about reversing them with the G4 boosting the G3? I prefer the G3 which I think is more of the “balls” whereas the G4 is more of the “hair”
@Leon Todd, would you say that the G4 would be a suitable pedal replacement for an Dual Rec? I really want a great feeling pedal that can get me my Rectifier tone when I can only bring my pedal board. It seems that with an EQ to tweak things the G4 could get really close? Or is there a better alternative out there?
Not a metal player, but I enjoy your Demos..I need a good Distortion, because I use a Katana 100 Head, mostly on the clean channel. I also have a Marshall DSL1, but I just need a good sounding distortion. I mostly use fuzzes, but I like the G4..it seems more defined, than the G3. Thanks!
I'm a little confused by the difference between using them as preamps as opposed to using them as distortion pedals. He was playing through the clean channel of his marshall right?
If your amp has an effects loop. The pedal can be used as a pre amp. You can go into the front of the amp, through the pedal, as you know. Or you can use the guitar in the front of your amp, then separately run cables from send/return of amp to input/output of pedal. But if you run the guitar to the pedal then plug the pedal into return of the amp, instead of the input up front, you are eliminating the pre amp and the pedal is the pre amp at that point. Hope that answers you. Just trying to help cause nobody responded.😈
Also might add that I believe that 1st example puts the pedal before preamp. 2nd example puts the pedal after preamp. 3rd example uses the pedal AS the preamp.
Anytime I use a distortion pedal on my JCM900 it doesn’t sound better of its lead channel or modern, newer like this sound you achieved.. good job!! Any advice to have a modern, heavy and colossal sound with a Marshall like the one you have in this video??
What would you recommend for strictly a lead pedal. More melodic than shred style- Soldano or G3? I keep changing my mind every time I hear them but it’s super tough to decide. Since I’ve seen you demo both I guess I would ask which sustains longer? That would be good to know I suppose. I’ve been following your videos since the AX8 days and value your opinion👍 Thanks!!
Leon in your opinion what pedal is more suited to classic rock, like bon jovi, journey. Looks like I woul have aggression switch off on both pedals and gain around 10-11. Tying to decide on which one, g3 or g4
Anyone plug one of these into front of an amp using the amps dirty channel? Possible to retain your amps gain/tone and use these as a boost with minor distortion from the revv pedal?
G3 does the more "modded Marshall/Soldano" style thing while the G4 is a little more Recto, to my ears anyway. Both have copious amounts of gain for pinch harmonics.
@ Leon Todd Hi Leon ;) ! How are they sounding comparatively, Mooer Fried mien vs Revv G4 ? Can you make a video for that? Into Power amp DSL 50 and Dual Recto.
Hahaha I’m watching along thinking what’s going to be closest for that Dogman tone .. and 6:40 we are there!!! Haha Thanks man!! Also could you assume that the G3 could be better in an American voiced clean amp and the G4 more British?
Just bought a JHS AT+, Marshall JCM800 sounding pedal. Do you think going for G4 makes more sense now as I feel G3 has some similarities with the JHS AT+ pedal. Any suggestions?
I've owned the G3 for about 2 years now and LOVE it, and this is one of the best video demos I've seen for either of these pedals. I have been pushing my G3 with either an EQD Plumes or Wampler Tumnus, and get a lot of the same boosted tones from the G3. Have you tried it that way?
my Boss metalzone crushed the g3 I just bough big time so it will be for sale. even tweeking both pedals for a good while with my cousin playing amazing riffs with my other cousin there listening. I got a perfect just perfect beefy smooth and tight distortion that just gives you eargasm they both felt the same way. the metalzone is just the best and soooo versatile too. to bad but the revv is crap and when I have time it's getting sold.
Nice. GC has a black G4 used for $160. I played it tonight, gonna go buy it tomorrow. After being homeless 3 years and without guitar for 7, I've been rebuilding a studio again. I screwed up and went for some multi-FX/modeling pedals: Boss ME-80 and Hotone Ampero MP-100. They sound good enough but they don't record worth a $#!+. The cleans and FX are fine but I can't get a decent recorded distortion riff no matter what I do. After hearing the G4 tonight, wow, what a difference. Way better off getting one good distortion pedal than a $360 modeler with 50 "amps" & 70 "cabs" (Ampero) when none of them are usable for recording. It sounds so plastic. I'd rather have just the dirt channel on the lil Marshall Valvestate I had 16 years ago than 50 plastic amps in a box. The ME-80 is good for the mod FX and the Ampero has some good delays and reverbs. They might sound pretty good without the amp & cab sims, just running FX.
I have commented on a couple of vids about these two pedals and I wasn't going to comment, but... I hate the G4 and G3 together. It sounds sh#+!. So scrappy and overly distorted. You are obviously a decent guitarist, but if this is your chosen sound it would put me off listening to you, which I think is a shame. No definition and full of fizzy noise, whereas when you use the G3 it sounds nice and tight. The G4 is a problem for me. I think it is not a good pedal. Great video though and I appreciate the review.
I have a g4 boosted with a sd1 into an eq pedal with mids slightly boosted. Sounds amazing into the front of my bugera 333 clean channel
After watching tons of comparison videos, this is by far the best. Nice work, love it!
I got an assortment of candies from sweetwater (USA) when I opened my G4 pedal package....!!!
Everyone has kept saying how the G4 is more for a regular tuned guitars while the G3 is for lower tuned guitars, but your demo has shown me that I really want the G4 more than the G3 for my seven string guitar. Thanks for shedding better light on this where other channels don't.

The recto setting you put on the G4 is exactly what I want it for.
Cheers for this comparison vid. Very useful. I'm with the G3.
Both of them together sound SICK
That's my favourite tone right there
Great tip,Thanks.
Recently picked up a G3. Love it. Tons of gain. Thanks for the video.
I just got the G4 today ! It will be a great addition to my rig to get that Recto vibe on my Elmwood M60 amp and 2x 12 V30 Mesa Cab ;)
Man Leon, that first purple tone was spot-on. Best demo on UA-cam for these pedals
The purple loves those EL34's!
Leon Todd will definitely be interested to hear it in the front end of an amp direct. I've got the deluxe reverb so no loop. The MI tubezone gets a very nice heavy tone but this g3 might have the edge.

They're doing good stuff hey. Nice to see another King's X fan around :D
Shoot, I’m still a year behind you. 🤘🏻😝
What did you end up using this past year? 🤘🏻🎸🔥
Best video on the Revv pedals online! Thank you for making this. I just ordered a G3 and I’m even more excited to get it now!
After having some time with them the G3 is my fave too, works so well whatever you throw at it.
Wow...that purple pedal speaks to me. Amazing. Cheers mate from Ohio.
I'm not much of a pedal guy, yeah I've got a few. However, very much enjoyed your presentation of both of these pedals! Thank you so much for sharing brother!
Be Well Leon!
Best review I have seen for these two pedals. Good Job!
Much appreciated!
Nice demo. Using BE-OD and MXR 5150 for rhythm. Added the G4 for solo duties
The Mesa Stereo 2:50 usually compliments these scooped sounds.
Need to drag mine out
Leon Todd The V30 is a perfect fit as well. Welcome back Leon.

I like the G4 the best. I think its the clarity I prefer.
Midway through the 9th minute, reminds me of tones from Exodus "Tempo of the Damned" album a bit.
I think the G3 is much better! G4 seems a bit fizzy. Also, you can get into G4 territory by using an overdrive/boost in front of the G3. G3 is the one I am going to buy...
I lean towards the G3 a tad more too
@@LeonTodd I just snagged one for £145 on Reverb: happy about that :D Great channel btw, thanks...
@@LeonTodd The G3 I got was faulty so I sent it back for a refund. I found a G4 at a great price so bought that instead...
Great demo Leon! Juicy tones coming out of those bad boys.
Ah the tone master at it again! Sounds fabulous Leon. Been thinking about the purple. Hmmmm might need em both!
Can't get over how good purple and Red sound stacked
Glad you got to try these out. I have the G4 and love it. One thing though, these pedals are very addictive 😎. Have fun!
The G4 is crushing

I love both of these pedals so much. They are the best preamp pedals out there right now. Also, I love the idea of a power gummy bear!!
The power gummy is the whole point of the vid
Awesome tone!
For both but i love g4
Give sound thick
G3!
2:48 👍👍👍
G4 has brighter sound, i love mine.
i wanna hear these with the gain dimed on red. guess ill have to wait til mine arrives LOL. nice run through of these pedals!

that riff at 2:45? i need to know what that is!!!

Ok, now switch cameras to expose your grandma playing.
The red is way more scooped right? The red = boogie and the purple = marshall haha
Yes. Exactly.
Would these be ok to use in the clean channel of a JCM 900 ? For some weird reason when I use pedals in my effects loop, there's a hissing noise.
g3
Did they at least have a red and purple gummie bear for you to combine?
G3 is killer fat man❤
Hi Leon! which one would you recommend for a Tool type of sound (ala Ænema or Lateralus)?
There's a vid where a guy uses the g3 with an ir loader to play Tool and it it sounds great

Yes. Yes I do.
The G4 sounds to bright. Has a swarm of bees sound to it.
The G3 sounds fatter and warmer.

Too bright? Reduce the treble. And 'swarm of bees'? That's fuzzy. I like fuzzy.
I didnt get any Gummy Bears....I will be taking this up with the REVV management......

I agree my @Andy Timmons pedal is better.
Would it have killed you to push the gain past noon?
