Thanks Shawn, I love my G3, and it cleans up really well with the right amp too. With the guitar volume around 50% thru the G3 (blue channel gain cranked) I can get the sweetest clean-crunch tone. You can’t get a bad sound out of these pedals, amazing tones all around. They sound so close to the amps I don’t even want the amp anymore...ok maybe a little 😁.
The G3 for sure has a bit more sag to it than the G2 but it's a very dialable pedal indeed. You're on the right track for the crunch tone you're getting out of your G3. Thanks for watching!
5:02 I hear a "Qua...Qua..." At the very beginning when he hits chords. It almost sounds like a really subtle wah pedal but only lasts a fraction of a second
Shawn, I have learned soooooo much about a large variety of pedals via watching your very well presented and informative videos. Not just great playing on your part (I've grabbed some of your 2 and 3 lower string rhythm chops :) ), but, also the fact that you continually go back and forth from your different pedal settings, play some examples from each setting...and....you ALWAYS go back and show us viewers how you've got the pedal set in re gain, volume, eq, toggle switches, etc. in order to get those sounds. Keep it up, my bruddah! And I'll keep tryin' my best to learn a few new goodies from you and your videos. T'anks, man...
My gain pedal search pretty much ended when I found a RevvG3. I've been using it in front of my Marshall DSL40CR, and now in front of my Soldano SLO30. I've been considering buying another G3 for a spare. However, after watching this video, I'm considering adding a G2 to my signal chain, as well. These pedals are really that good sounding.
Thanks for this, Shawn. Appreciate the detailed comparison. Both feel a little congested to me, but I prefer the G2 over the G3 for its less compressed nature.
This is a GREAT question....I hope he answers. A lot of players are just looking for a pedal to tighten up their pushed amps, without changing the gain structure of the entire amp (which, a LOT of these pedals do). Hopefully, he'll read this....
@@phillamoore157 yesss. Boosting it now with a Boss sd1-w. So far so good, but some tone controls would be better. For a little more compr and smoothness… the Jam Tubedreamer👌🏽
G2 but still a little to much gain for me and i feel a good amount of compression too.. Revv should do a low gain pedal till medium with less compression that would be awesome maybe a Shawn Tubbs Signature... ;)
Shawn, what would you recommend for the most versatile sound...decent amount of gain, but able to handle the lower gain too. Zeppelin and Sabbath kinda sounds and for doomy kinda sounds on lower tunings, like Mastodon etc?
I got all three , they all have that issue, the G3 and G4 seem to suffer from that as soon as you switch it from the middle position. They are very noisy pedals.THe G2 is ok , I use it to push my 800's even harder, but still a little noisy as soon as you go out of the middle position on the pedal.
I'm using the G3 for Adam Jones (Tool) sounds. Yes you read me right, Adam Jones. A Les Paul with a Seymour Duncan SH-4 in the Bridge into the REVV G3 is just ri-di-cul-ous!!! This pedal will never leave my board. Also, it's built like a tank, so I will probably be able to give it to my grand children one day.
The G3 is based on the purple channel of the Generator series amps and is a very popular channel, but that being said, the G2 is based on the green channel and the G4 is based on the red channel and they all have that "REVV sound" for sure. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Very informative video! Interesting that you describe yourself as a rock/blues player - do you not think of yourself at all as a "fusion" player? I guess I tend to associate the outside playing thing with fusion players. In any case, love your playing, I could listen to you jam and riff all day long!
my Boss metalzone crushed the g3 I just bough big time so it will be for sale. even tweeking both pedals for a good while with my cousin playing amazing riffs with my other cousin there listening. I got a perfect just perfect beefy smooth and tight distortion that just gives you eargasm they both felt the same way. the metalzone is just the best and soooo versatile too. to bad but the revv is crap and when I have time it's getting sold. just trying to help. I had the metalzone way back when but got into tube amps and mods but now I want both so the metalzone is back. glad they didnt triple in price lol they certainly could have because they are the best because the 6 buttons it has drastictly changes the type of dist you get and that just amazing. smooth round gritty perfect distortion at least 5 types too boot. Why waste 4 times the money what used metalzone are cheap and 10 times better.
Hi Shawn, I'm looking to replace my Angry Charlie (too much low mids for my taste) with a different marshall-esque drive pedal. I'm trying to aim for that classic early TOTO / pre Bradshaw Lukather tone. Would you recommend the G2 for that? I'm using a Koch Twintone II amp.
Another killer demo, Shawn. Thank you.
G2 = 70's
G3 = 80's
G4 = KORN

The tone on the neck position (6:58) is amazing

That's awesome to hear! No reason not to mix it up, tbh, the G2 would be a great additional flavor.
Got both pedals and love them both!!! Revv FTW!!
Thanks for watching! Glad you're digging your Revv pedals!
Thanks dude!
I have the G3. Great pedal!
Glad you dig your G3!
Thanks for this, Shawn. Appreciate the detailed comparison. Both feel a little congested to me, but I prefer the G2 over the G3 for its less compressed nature.
Try them with the aggression/drive set to "off" it's the most open setting, the others are gainier.
@@RevvAmps This was the right solution, the G2 in the Off setting into a slightly broken up D20 is a wonderful sound. Really pleased with this pedal.

Hi Shawn. When pushing a already dirty plexi amp, for heavier rhythm stuff,do you prefer the G2 over the G3? Thanks!

Hmmmmm....;)
well look at that!
That's the G2. Just lower the gain and use a guitar with cold/neck pickups.
I’m buying both
I own the G3 and it’s badass. Does the G2 have as much dynamic response and feel as the G3?
Get both, I did!
I have a G3 arriving on Monday
Hey Shawn! That sounds spectacularly good. Are you running the D20 direct or did you use a speaker/microphone?
Thanks!! That's the D20 Direct using the stock 4x12 IR in the number one rotary position.
@@ShawnTubbs Thank you!
Im goping with a Carl Martin Plexi pedal & a G4 for heavier stuff. That Plexi pedal covers almost every classic rock song on earth
Nice!
If you get the G2,G3 and G4 you get all the Joker's colors lol.
g-2 comming today . what is that chord your playing . you go to a to a almost g but with your fist finger low i love it..

Immediately I thought the G3 sounded like tool when I fired it up. I love mine too. It’s so vivid sounding and has so much feel
Watch the switches, they give up pretty quick. I love them but they have an issue with the switch . Better to use a switching system.
@@frankquinn1296 which switch do you mean? The foot switch or the aggression mode toggle?
@@fraenkiboii foot switch
Between the 2, 3, or 4; which would be the most appropriate for an EVH brown sound? Guessing G3 or G4?
G3
Does any of them approach a sound of a MIAB ? Seems very different....
Hi Shawn . I have a question? Which amp is better to pair with line 6 helix Hughes and Kettner GrandMeister or Revv generator 7/40 ?
Get a power amp, or buy whichever you prefer and plug the helix into the return. The versatility of amp modelling is better than any one amp.
wow! awesome pedal (G2)
Can you get these tones out of the G20 or do you still need the pedals?
Love the G2. Sounds great! Not sure if it would pair as well with my Bogner Shiva. Wonderful demo Shawn.👍🏻
Thanks for watching Chris! I would think the G2 would be just fine into your Bogner Shiva but there's only one way to find out! ;)
Ha! Quite the salesman you’ve become. Well played.
Great has Always ;)
Last NAMM Show I asked they guys are the Revv booth which pedal offered the quintessential "Revv sound". They said the G3. Would you agree?
