It's crazy how good the sound quality is on this show, all the instruments and harmonies coming through with great clarity. Those 2 big drum hits John plays when Danny sings "Don't run away its only me" on Dead Man's Party, I can't believe the sound on that. I'm not sure if it's the way his kit is mic'ed or the acoustics of the venue or what. There are a lot of more recent live performances by heavier bands I've listened to where the drums sound weak in comparison to that.
It sounds like they may have used the sound off the mixing board, instead of just the camera mics or something equally-basic which is usually responsible for the weaker sounds you've heard elsewhere.
This tour was the first concert of any kind I ever attended. It went for over 200 minutes in Seattle -- they just wouldn't stop. It was insane, over the top energy. Amazing live band. Thanks for posting!

Love, love, love Danny, wish he could still do this, miss him and his wild let-loose energy and this kind of music...........so instead I come here and listen, I make the screen as big as I can and turn it up all the way........so much fun! God bless us all, and Merry Christmas!
Hands down the best performance of Just Another Day. I am so obsessed!
100%... and seeing/ hearing Danny emote while singing, "please leave my heart," at the end brought me to tears. I've never felt that way while listening to the song countless times, but actually seeing him belt out those lyrics really transported me to whatever pain he was reliving.
@@JoeLikesRocks I agree. It is SO intense seeing him sing that line versus hearing it. That lyric just isn't as poignant on the record, it hits different.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Nearly had a heart attack when that punk rock channel (or whatever) was terminated, and we lost the highest quality copy of this concert -- just when I was about to download it for my personal collection/posterity! This is why it's important to save obscure content before it's gone... I've learned my lesson.
you're very welcome!
I was THERE! The old Ritz ruled.
Danny and the entire band are INCREDIBLE! I had so many chances to see Boingo in the 80's in L.A. but blew it. They played Halloween every year in Pasadena and never went -- and they opened for the Police in '82? and we were in the parking lot still partying #KickingMyself
My brother attended all of those Halloween shows. They were the best performances of any band he saw before or since.
same here mike.
Dang. How epic that would've been.
I only discovered Oingo Boingo recently after finding out Kurt Cobain liked them too and if they were good enough for him they're definitley good enough for me!
Never heard Danny Elfman’s band - this was so good! I was mesmerized.
Ive been jaming W / Oingo Boing since the beginning. I would love to see them live! Or Dead!!!! Preferably at a party. These guys are really good. We love Danny Elfman and his many works in TV and Movies. Thanks Man.
MAN!!! Danny Elfman is Scary but the music is really good!!!! Ive been An Oingo fan for many years. I play their songs contiuaslly all day on Halloween!!😮😢🎉
i love how excited everyone is to be playing
danny somehow always reminds me of jello biafra Oo
also I love how from 25:28 someone reaches out for danny and it looks like he won't get a high five but then 25:37
😀
Just saw it as you pointed! Hilarious!😂
I figured it out, that drum sound is enhanced by a sound effect created by the keyboard player.
It looks like he might be hitting the bass drum mallet on a microphone instead of a bass drum, too.
His drums have triggers in them and the kick pedal is hitting an electric trigger that's all hooked up to samples.
It sounds like they may have used the sound off the mixing board, instead of just the camera mics or something equally-basic which is usually responsible for the weaker sounds you've heard elsewhere.
Truth
Johnny "Vatos" used to through down on the drums!!!! r.i.p. 🙏
wait hes dead
@@computerfighter2000 he's alive
yeah I know now this comment is from a while ago but thanks anyways 💀
@@computerfighter2000 sorry, didn't see the date
it’s okay!
Wow, Danny is so amazing, I love him!
This tour was the first concert of any kind I ever attended. It went for over 200 minutes in Seattle -- they just wouldn't stop. It was insane, over the top energy. Amazing live band. Thanks for posting!
Saw them at UCSB in 1980 in the Thunderdome. I was impressed how tight the group was, despite so many members. (They opened for The Police (with Sting))
Lucky.
I'm jealous!
Might as well retire from concerts after this, it's only downhill from here lol
The talent of Danny Elfman on stage and behind the scene movie scores is outstanding... Thanks for all the great music...
I went to many live performances of Oingo Boingo about a hundred years ago. Damaged my hearing in my geezerdom, but it was worth it!!!
My sister dated Kerry Hatch, Boungo’s earlier bass player. Nice guy.
Danny is more than gifted. Genius, IMHO
2023 and enjoying one of my favorite bands! THANK YOU OINGO BOINGO!
Hadn't heard of this band til today - my shame/ loss ! They are on another level !
I saw something on TV about bridget fonda last night and found this, I couldn't sleep all night, this concert kept running through my head! It's A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I was only 10 so they were a bit before my time, but I wish I had been at this concert
Danny's nickname is eyes Elfman. I'm 64 now and i can't get enough of this. I'm STOKED
Killer mix! Whoever’s running their board is a fucking star!
Why do I not know the name of their bassist? He’s a bloody legend.
John Avila? ..I believe he is vastly underappreciated
Mad xylophone skills
He's a fuckin savage bassist.
The Masterful John Avila. I've actually seen him comment on some of these videos too!
Holy cow.. Incredible live performance. Amazing band. Those were the days...
I was at this one somewhere down front. First of many shows that I went to at the Ritz. I still have the ticket stub from this one. December 20, 1985. Friday.
I am sooooooooooooooooooo in love with Danny Elfman!
I can't count how many times I've seen these guys.....great music, and they were always was soo much fun......got so into their shows.....always made me feel like I was part of the show..............
That whole “without your head” bit during Grey Matter. 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥵
Everyone who got to go to that show is so lucky. Very jealous, if only I could go back in time. Amazing performance.
Wow! Best live performance ever? It's so good you might guess this is a great dub job. Excellent; they deserve more credit.
Thank you for uploading! Great live performance) In my opinion Danny was one of the best american vocalists in the 80s. I love his voice very much.
Hard agree. Danny is my number one vocal idol and I practice with his Boingo stuff all the time.
His and David G | Depeche Mode. Danny… genius
@@rudeboyspodcastme too. I’ve covered lots of Boingo/Elfman songs and my own original vocals are definitely inspired by this great artist!
Me too. His voice is so great. So iconic.
thank u so much i was so afraid it was gone forever 😭😭♥️
you're welcome!
Me too !!!
Danny feels every instrument. It’s cool to watch.
3:43 when you turn a theatre troupe into a rock band, and it's absolutely awesome.
Sound engineer did a great job
Estou impressionado com a energia desses caras! Melhor performance ao vivo! Que banda do caralho! Bons tempos que não voltam mais!
I discovered Oingo Boingo with “Little Girls” and the ‘Only A Lad’ album. I first saw them on their ‘Nothing To Fear’ tour. Then I saw them next ‘Dead Mans Party’ in the Santa Cruz arena. A couple more times after that. They remain my second favorite band after RUSH believe it or not!
These versions of the songs are better than the studio recordings, faster paced. Now the album versions seem so slow. 🥱
i have never seen nearly enough love and appreciation for michael bacich, the keyboardist. honestly one of my favourite members, such a shame he's as underrated as he is. he died in 2021, at 67. rest in peace man
Hello! I am a big fan of Michael J Bacich. He is my favorite member, and deeply appreciate his music. I made a playlist of as much music I could find of his, and as many performances I could find featuring him. ua-cam.com/play/PLVoJzS9JqwxwFy6SM8W4E9xH-8dU0xYtk.html&si=Bh7NCs76d_9oQmkn
@@Boogmonyou are the best person ever! thank you for making this playlist
@@hikakakaka4 Thank you! And no problem! I am still updating the playlist and adding things. Everything you see is in chronological order, so when you start watching you are listening to his sound evolve until the end.
@@Boogmonthat's actually such a cool idea, i admire how much thought and effort you put into this! this is a slightly off-topic question, but would you know if he is the super low voice in the background for dead man's party+weird science? i can't seem to discern his voice from john avila in both this video and the album
@hikakakaka4 Thank you! It's been alot of work to figure out what he did after Oingo Boingo, and then finding video footage of it. That's a good question, and honestly, I don't quite know. I really love the part where he sings "what you caaaaaaaannot see" in Dead Man's Party while plugging his ear with his right hand. I'm so happy they showed him doing that.
This is so awesome. Thanks for the upload. I wish I was old enough to know Oingo Boingo and to go to this concert. It looks radical and man, do they put on a show! To see early Danny Elfman performing like this, little did the world know what more he would give us later with his other works.
Absolutely TIGHT performance!!! They killed it!
yeah this is one of those bands that sound better live than on recordings for sure. I put RUSH on that list as well
What a trip to have this pop up on YT feed. I saw them in Tallahassee in 1989 at Milk Bar. At the time, I didn't know what I was witnessing, which was genius energy. It was like he was inviting whole audience to join him on a surreal trip.
Thx for the post.
ALAS, THE FANBASE HAS BEEN SAVED.
Cara isso é que é música boa... espetacular... fenomenal... incrível... fantástica...me faltam palavras pra descrever o que sinto escutando Oingo Boingo... simplesmente sensacional!!!!!!!!
Thank you for doing god’s work.
No problem :)
I saw them live5 times. 3 times at Irvine Meadows, once at Pacific Amphitheater and once at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
HALLOWEEN SHOWS AT THE AMPITHEATER
@@wallisliss good times. The Irvine Meadows ( Verizon Amp ) was torn down a few years ago and homes were built. So sad... also they are tearing down the Laguna Hills mall for residential use...
I saw them so many times I can’t count. The ones you mentioned. The Palladium was the best, no seats, dance show. Even at the San Bernardino fairgrounds, Orange Show. Universal including the farewell show. Multiple Halloween shows in the same year. Have all my tickets somewhere.
This is the only video of their lives I can find with good audio, thank you!!
Dislike.
I had to come back to this. I watched this concert HEAVILY on UA-cam back in 2016-2017 (different channel). just another day is still the best of the best ♥️ 13:24-14:28
14:45 John Avila is so expressive!
Danny Elfman is a genius.
He is a genius!
The first time I saw them in a small club they all popped out of these huge jack in the boxes. It was insane
Little dude on the bass absolutely slays. He's killing it.
I was going through a moment of musical boredom and boom! ... if this is not sublime I don't know what else it could be, I had a very great time, thanks!
29:34 jesus christ. how can someone be scary yet incredibly attractive at the same time
I'm absolutely fascinated with how he looks. It's kind of hard for me to put to words. He looks absolutely sweet one second and like he's gonna eat your soul the very next second. So frightening... so whimsical.
@@Sand-Walker13the two hottest things a person can be!
@@jazzmatazz27 agreed!
To the guy on the keyboards bringing it all,
well done sir. You are fire.
Great to have this. I wish we could also have a concert from the "Good For Your Soul" tour, with Hatch and Gibbs (the original bassist and keyboardist).
I had no idea they were this good live. PLUS Eugene Levy on keytar
Seeing the mastery evident here, and the energy, it easy to see how mkotob came to dominate television and cable soundtracks.
Holy sugar they're good I had their album back in the 80s I should have seen them in LA too hope they tour sometime
Oingo Boingo is just fantastic! What a Great Show!! I would,ve loved to have been there but if they,re still touring, I guaran Damn Tee you, I,ll be there!!! Me & my Dead Man!!!😮🎉
The Ritz was great. My best friends gf was the asst mng for awhile. They had tvs on the upper floors and vip lounge playing the show downstairs. Partied with joey ramone and ritchie stotts one night. Such great days!!!
