I'm a hardcore Oingo Boingo fan, but this documentary contained so much information that I didn't even know about. Excellent job tracking down obscure facts, rare videos, and the in depth history about the band. I'm curious how you came to know about Oingo Boingo. So many people in America have only heard one or two of their songs. It's amazing that someone from overseas knew about this band and went to the effort of putting together this history. Extremely well done. Thank you!
I came to post your exact sentiments. I was in 5th grade in '79 when my friends and I first heard Only A Lad played on 91x (I was a San Diego kid, and 91x was a station that broadcast out of Tijuana, Baja). We were instant fans and absolutely destroyed the 91x request lines, all of us each calling a dozen times a day for Oingo Boingo. I am 53 now and Oingo Boingo is firmly planted on my top 10 favorite band list. And I thought I knew a lot about them, have seen them about a dozen times over the years, but this documentary was outstanding... I found out so many interesting bits of trivia. Thanks for the wonderful video!!!
My parents used to party with them back in the 80s. I wanted to go to the farewell concert with them but they said 13 was too young. They've been my favorite band since before I can remember. Thank you for this history!!
I'm not real sure why you would be too young because apparently back in the days these people love little girls. It makes him feel good and it makes him feel bad. Apparently That's what the song says
I somehow managed to locate a copy of that legendarily rare fanmade Oingo Boingo book by Keith Breese for $20 recently. That book, combined with this upload, are absolutely invaluable for 'Boingoloids! For all of the book's problems, it has so many amazing quotes from members of the band. I have to share this quote from Danny as it's absolutely batshit insane: "I won second place in the junior high science fair. My project was called 'Detecting Ionization From Radiation.' Back then, you were able to contact the Atomic Energy Commission and get strontium-90 and cobalt-60 in little vials. I used to steal needles from my diabetic grandfather and use them to irradiate flies, hoping to create hideous mutations." What a man. Weird Science indeed.
Thank you for making this!!! I’m so late to the party but I’ve been obsessed for just over a year now. Too much good stuff was happening before I was born 🥲 I got to see Danny in Irvine last month it was awesome
Two of my faves: We Close Our Eyes and Not my Slave. Danny Elfman's voice is so seductive in those two songs and when his range goes deep, my goodness. You can also hear this seductive quality in Nightmare Before Christmas in the closing duet song with Sally. Danny Elfman's voice has quite the range.
A few months ago I found "Running on a Treadmill" by accident on spotify and I immediately fell in love with the band. I looked at their other albums, and fell deeper in love. I new about "Little girls" as a meme but I never new it was the same man that sang "What's this" in Nightmare before Christmas. Small lovely world.
Just caught his Irvine show this past Sat. It was only Danny and he played a few Boingo tunes, but the guy is 70 and hasn't skipped a beat. Hopefully people won't forget how lucky we've been to have Elfman and Boingo in our lives.
I grew up in Los Angeles in the 1980s listening to New Wave and Punk music on the famous radio station KROQ ("the Rock of the '80s") and Oingo Boingo was played at least five times a day, so prolific and excellent was their music. I also remember being a fan of the Dr. Demento radio show and "Dead Man's Party" was a staple in the month of October... What a great time to be young!
"I like you though you may not like me back/ I would dazzle you with brilliance if I only had a knack" I would totally listen to the full length version of "Change". Thanks for this comprehensive record of Boingo's history, it fills in a lot of blanks. What a ride.
He got in a fight and a black eye. He didn’t say he beat the sh.. out of anybody. He was only 160 lbs, and that’s soaking wet. But he was feisty. This is true. Boingo forever!!!
In addition to both US Festivals, I was at every single Halloween show, including the last one. Most of them took place at a venue called Irvine Meadows, which is no longer even there. The only thing better than their albums was seeing them live.
Oingo Bongo to this day is a big part of my life. Saw my 1st concert when I was a freshman in high school. And the last in 94. I've been to 500+ concert in my life from Skinny Puppy to Pink Floyd and everything in between. And Oingo Biongo was as good of show as I've seen. Other than great songs..Oingo Biongo were excellent musician. Since they broke up in 94 there's been a void. Because if they could have kept going to think of the great songs they would have produced is tough to swallow. I listen to them almost daily and will till the day I die.

Thank you. I've been listening to Oingo Boingo since middle school 2008, and I didn't even know Goodbye Goodbye had a demo. This video is great, and shows how much is not known about the band. Really, thank you.
Really a great and detailed job. As a mega fan and collector, I’d have to say you nailed this. You even played an early version of Goodby Goodby that I’ve never heard. You’ve also collected clips of all videos I’ve ever seen and a few I have not . Excellent exposition of demo clips. I’m very impressed!
Incredible! Thank you very much for this passionate and amazing work, Oingo Boingo has always been for me the most unique band which came out from that 80's scene, while everybody was trying to look pretty and sexy they're were on the opposite direction, trying to be weird, original and fun. Boingo will always have a spot on my top 5 bands ever!
I think it was around 1984 I saw them for the 1st time at Citrus College in Azusa CA. They played with the Untouchables. I'm going to see Danny again Oct 28th, 2022 can't wait. This was very well done, Thank you for doing it.
Great video! Thanks forbdoing this. I got to see Oingo Boingo in concert twice, once in 1986 and again in 1990 where Food For Feet and the Red Hot Chile Peppers were the warm up bands.
I was lucky enough to have discovered this band early on through my wife who was a DJ at a college radio station. Nothing has touched them for me since.
Wow, Thank you for such a informative take on a band that shaped my life. I was lucky to see Oingo Boingo sooo many times @ Irvine meadows. I hoping Danny gets some ear plugs and do a BOINGO Tour again!
I saw many shows at Irvine. They also played one Halloween at Pacific Amphitheater. But I saw many show at Universal. They were the bomba. And we all miss them. Well we have many memories.
Wow! Thank you for putting this together. They've been my favorite band since discovering them in the '80s! You've definitely done extensive research which I've never seen/heard before. Amazing stuff.
Very well done! This was full of interesting and new information about a truly original band. I had the privilege to see Boingo perform a few times in and around LA in the 1980's. Great showmen, tight band, contagious rhythm and melody.
For once the usually bland youtube algorithm suggested something I'd never heard of before, worth watching and that I very much enjoyed. Thanks, this was excellent!
Thanks for making this! I'm a life long Oingo Boingo fan, but learned a lot from you! Now I need to go find my Secret Society card! I definitely still have mine! Cheers!
Have you seen the videos where the guy says " Safety is priority number one" and does odd tests on things? HIs title is "Crazy Russian Hacker" That's who this sounds like to me- either way I like listening to his voice.

My all-time favorite band. One of the First videos I ever seen was I like little girls on M3 TV. I saw Oingo Boingo with fear perform in vet stadium in Long Beach. My best friend Gary really help keep on go Boingo in my brain.
The voice over at 2 minutes into the video is Michael Dobo who also took some of the greatest pictures of the early incarnations of MKOB and Oingo Boingo.

Halloween, New Hears, etc. I miss them so much....but now I see Dead Man’s Party... they are really very good and the singer Rob really mimics Danny Elfman well.

My Ex Marie got to SEE that Final Concert in '95! A girlfriend of hers got tickets from a guy she was dating who couldn't go. So, Marie's friend called her and said, "Hey You want to go see this band tonight? It's supposed to be their FINAL Concert! Lets get Dressed Up and go have some fun!" Marie, who NEVER Passes up the chance to see a LIVE band was like... "YEA SURE! Why No? Sounds like Fun!" So they got all Sexied up in some kind of Halloween Costumes and Went and Marie told me they had a BLAST! But UNTIL Then, Marie had never really HEARD Of "OINGO BOINGO! But she NEVER Forgot them after THAT Night! :D
I planned on going to that concert, but a new manager demanded I fly out to a new client in Flagstaff that Sunday instead of the next morning. The client engagement was a mess, and I never got along with that manager again, for many reasons.
Great video with so many bits of information that I never knew despite listening to them and going to their concerts when I was in high school. Thank you!

Such an in-depht video on the band! I appreciate all the effort you've put into this, I didn't know most of the things mentioned beforehand, so this video vas very helpful and informative. Thank you for making this! :)
Thanks dude, they're so very underrated these days, especially the "mystic knights" era imho. I would have loved to have seen them in their heyday. Very excited to listen to this documentary, the band had already packed up shop by the time I learned about them (thanks to "Little Girls" being a meme back in the golden age of the internet) and in the years since my interest in them has just grown and grown, especially for the "Mystic Knights" period of things due to being a fan of a lot of the stuff they were and also because there's absolutely nothing like them in the world today and I think we are are all poorer as a result.
I went to their concert in Irvine way back when I was just 22. They played until they were informed by the venue they had to end it because it was getting too late. By that time Danny had sung his heart out and was losing his voice. Best concert of my life.
i liked this video a lot! it's hard to find commentary on oingo boingo, and really danny elfman's work outside of popular film scores in general. and not to be a freak, but you have a good voice for video essays. please make more 🙏
Enjoyed this! No Coachella in 2021 either. But he did do his Nightmare Before Christmas concert. He also released an insanely dark, masterpiece of a solo album in 2021 titled Big Mess. Elfman is a genius and nearing seventy years old, he's still going strong.
Is Oingo Boingo in the 21st century sort of on and off for Elfman? Heard he had to stop touring with them because his hearing got worse over the years and cant imagine him losing his hearing that badly which could mean he'd never be able to continue film scoring
@@ThomasmemoryscentralThere are questions as to whether he really has hearing issues because there are so many other bands/artists who have performed since the eighties and are fine. It's possible he wanted out of the band.
This was a very well done video, the format was well though out and there was a lot of info and song clips i had never heard before. The only complaint I have is the audio was on the low side. Many of my fondest memories have Oingo Boingo playing in the back ground. Danny is an immense talent as are the rest of the band. I know there last album "Boingo" is not a favorite among most, but seeing "Insanity" proformed live was simply awe inspiring. I wish they got the notoriety that they deserved, ......but we know! If anyone from the Band ever reads this " Thanks for all the awsome times!"
My best friend growing up and I were obsessed with OB for years...we had a great time listening and dancing to them he stayed with them much longer than me but then we both went to the final Farewell show on Oct 31, 1995 at Verizon stadium
Danny Elfman is one of the greatest musical geniuses.
Yeah that's true!
I still thing his movie work is by far the best of his career. Nightmare on Elm Street and Edward Scissorhands soundtrack still give me chills
Often enough I get chills hearing "What you see" voice acrobatics.

Thanks so much for this... I've listen to Oingo by whole life, but learned a lot from you video... :-)
Glad to hear that from you!
You listened to these psychos?
Thank you for making this! It was super informative. I saw Danny Elfman in Irvine in 2023 and it was the best love show I have ever seen.
So lucky to have seen them in NYC on my 16th birthday in the 80! One of my faveshows
What a fantastic documentary on this man and his group...I can't imagine the effort put into making it! GREAT job!!!
Great documentary! I've been listening so much to Oingo Boingo lately and this video made me love them a lot more. Thank you!!!
Nice job on the documentary - I really appreciate learning more about them!
Wow, Thank you for such a informative take on a band that shaped my life. I was lucky to see Oingo Boingo sooo many times @ Irvine meadows. I hoping Danny gets some ear plugs and do a BOINGO Tour again!
Well at least Coachella is promising, however, postponed until 2021...
I was at Irvine Meadows a lot as well! So much fun....ah the good old days.
I saw many shows at Irvine. They also played one Halloween at Pacific Amphitheater. But I saw many show at Universal. They were the bomba. And we all miss them. Well we have many memories.
@kvashninRUS
I saw Danny Elfman at Coachella in April 2022. He did some Boingo songs and he was fantastic!!
NO BRASIL FOI UM SUCESSO. NOS ANOS 80, 90, 2000 E ATÉ HOJE ESCUTO....
That's right. Is it true that Oingo Boingo became popular in Brazil because of the "Top Model" TV show?
For once the usually bland youtube algorithm suggested something I'd never heard of before, worth watching and that I very much enjoyed. Thanks, this was excellent!
Great job! I love Oingo Boingo! This is very interesting to know of their history! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for making this! I'm a life long Oingo Boingo fan, but learned a lot from you! Now I need to go find my Secret Society card! I definitely still have mine! Cheers!
Thanks for narrating this, Borat! It’s now sexy time!
hah do I sound like him?
@@KvashninRUS A little bit.
I enjoyed this documentary. I just heard Danny’s new song and this was suggested.
Have you seen the videos where the guy says " Safety is priority number one" and does odd tests on things? HIs title is "Crazy Russian Hacker" That's who this sounds like to me- either way I like listening to his voice.
Amazing vid! I recently got addicted to Oingo Boingo
Great Documentary.
I saw them live 4 times during....Their BEST years...When This Band Was ON FIRE
UCSD 1984
Del Mar Fairgrounds 1985
SDSU 1985
San Diego Sports Arena 1986
My all-time favorite band. One of the First videos I ever seen was I like little girls on M3 TV. I saw Oingo Boingo with fear perform in vet stadium in Long Beach. My best friend Gary really help keep on go Boingo in my brain.
The voice over at 2 minutes into the video is Michael Dobo who also took some of the greatest pictures of the early incarnations of MKOB and Oingo Boingo.
Wow, didn't know about that. Another interesting piece of information! Just checked out his site, rad!
@@KvashninRUS charlie did boingo's lighting from 1974ish till the end and he and sean riley made those limited-number 1979 demo ep covers! he's posted a few stories in the boingo groups that are pretty cool
@@user-ms8km7lh1l Yeah I know! Many photos of MKOTOB were taken from Charlie's FB page.
I get up in Orange County in Southern California, graduated high school in 1985. Oingo Boingo was ALWAYS in my car cassette player. And my Walkman....lol. I went to MANY of their concerts. Halloween, New Hears, etc. I miss them so much....but now I see Dead Man’s Party... they are really very good and the singer Rob really mimics Danny Elfman well.
Glad that you've seen them a lot!
We were truly lucky, eh, Christine? I grew up in Van Nuys and graduated in 1983. KROQ was almost always on my radio and New Wave/Punk was king of the airwaves. It was a great time to be young...
@@s.marcus3669 I live in Van Nuys!
@@sylyep7955 I now live in Arizona and there is only one thing I miss: Tommy's chiliburgers. Please have one for me!
@@s.marcus3669 Will do!
Not my slave is one of the masterpieces that I, lucky boy,had the chance of listening to. Completely fell in love with this track. Soundtrack of my rollerskating here,in Brazil. Boingo here is worshiped by surfers. I really, really love Oingo Boingo. Thanks for posting
Thanks for this film. OB deserves all the love and appreciation
One of the most underrated bands ever!
Ive always liked oingo boingo, but after watching this i am absolutely hooked, such and amazing, multifaceted group with an insane amount of talent
It's shocking how thorough this is. You even caught "Don't go in the Basement". Ever consider doing more bands?
Maybe one day... ;)
I was rewatching Oingo Boingo videos for Halloween and found this gem. Thank you!
Great video with so many bits of information that I never knew despite listening to them and going to their concerts when I was in high school. Thank you!
Danny Elfman already was a visionary! The end's video confirm this...
I ate this up with a spoon. What a fantastic documentary!
Amazing production. Lost footage and history. Thanks a ton. BTW ..I'm an old Geezer.
Wow. Nice work. I have been an Oingo Boingo fan all my life, but even I learned some new stuff here. Excellent work. Very fitting that you posted this video on April 20th-- Oingo Boingo Day!
Such an in-depht video on the band! I appreciate all the effort you've put into this, I didn't know most of the things mentioned beforehand, so this video vas very helpful and informative. Thank you for making this! :)
Ok Im a huge fan of Japanese music from the 80's and I am so glad to learn about Mayo's album! Mind = Blown
nice work! surely my favorite band, greetings from colombia.
Ok that's one very elaborate story. Thank you for this, now I love them even more.
You're welcome!
Nice work! Definitely better than many other attempts. Thanks for putting the time in and sharing.
I loved this!!! Too good job! Congratulations!
This is so well done! I wish I had words to describe how much i enjoyed this. Again, well done!
Oingo Boingo is my favorite band.
Excellent work!
Great work on this! Oingo Boingo is one of my all time favorite bands and you compiled a great time line. A+
Great history, thanks for making this!
You did a GREAT JOB with this documentary! Such a lot of history, I Understand them much more now! Thank you ❤
great video! i'm on an adhd-induced oingo boingo kick right now, and i'm gonna rewatch this and take notes lol!
Outstanding retrospective.
You clearly worked very hard on this. Great job. I learned so much.
Outstanding documentary. We're watching Danny Elfman tonight and this is just what I needed to get me ready for the show.
i liked this video a lot! it's hard to find commentary on oingo boingo, and really danny elfman's work outside of popular film scores in general. and not to be a freak, but you have a good voice for video essays. please make more 🙏
Enjoyed this!
This was amazing man! I really enjoyed this.
I. would love to see some interviews in here but this is an amazing tribute to one of my favorite bands
Thank you for this great documentation of Boingo history. It's great to see the whole legacy!
Hold on, the Farewell last concert was at Universal Amphitheatre, wasn't it?
It may have been but I was down at the Irvine one on Halloween I thought that was the last show but it was cool
Bravo! i love Danny and oingo boingo will always be the music that makes me happy!
I´ve been a fan since 2001, you did a fantastic work
Amazing history! Nice video! Oingo Boingo is one of my favorite bands!
I remember hearing Oingo Boingo for the first time in 1979 and thinking WTF, LOL .. they grew on me.
Just an amazing docu! Thank you for putting this together! Seriously. I appreciate you for this.
