Platform: SEGA Model 2
Played on PC via emulator.
Resolution: 2560x1600 [UA-cam probably reduced the resolution to 1440p :v]
I had to turn off tile maps which then removed the cinema scopes (aka letter box during cutscenes) and subtitles. I didn't want to but had no choice. With Tile maps turned on, shooting causes a white ass flashing that will make you blind (Well not blind, but it's straining and not comfortable at all). This is due to the way old Light guns worked with those machines. You can see those white flashing while I enter my name after the ending.
This is the canon ending, aka good ending. You don't have to save everyone to have this ending. In fact, you can get this ending even if you don't save anyone. Just make sure to score over 60000 [Whatever it was, started with 6xxxxx]
The game runs at 58 FPS and thus suffers from stutters. Can't do anything to solve it.

For those who hate the stutters, the only way to play this game without stutter is by creating a custom resolution with refresh rate of 58Hz.
The game is locked at 58 FPS, and thus at 58Hz, there wont be any stutters. That's how I played this game. Unfortunately, Nvidia Share can record games at 30 and 60 FPS only. So this video suffers from all these stupid stutters.

Yo! You're one of the better House of the Dead players I've seen. Properly calibrating the cursor and getting headshots off the zombies! Nice resolution, too; gives it a remastered look :)

Actually I played with mouse. But I turned off the cursor to give it a more arcadish look.
Have you ever heard of scoring over 100,000 points? After months of playing this, that's about my average. There's secret paths that add to such a high score. Also, after you kill the bats when fighting Hangedman, try shooting his head each time he charges at you. Killing even far-away enemies is recommended.

By the way, does killing Hangedman's bats seperately gives extra score?
You also have to go for as many headshots as you can. In stage 1, wait for the Kenfis dogs to jump at you and shoot them in the mouth.
Yes, killing the bats does give more points (80 points a bat). Shooting the Hermit's head after he dies increases score, as well.
Additionally, I like playing this game on 1 life and 3 lives max; helps me not get hit as much (you lose 100 points per life lost).

Yeah he's hard, especially on House of Dead 1. On House of Dead 2, he comes slowly and gives more time to shoot.

1. Comes on pc with a decent port.
2. Is faithful to the original.
Otherwise I might skip. Seen too many remakes of many games in past few years and most don't impress me anymore.

I do have one complaint, I think they are trying to make the voice acting too much worse.
The voice acting of house of dead 1 was miles better than house of dead 2 in my opinion. Everyone talked less and felt more natural compared to hod 2's over exaggerated acting.
But good to see the gore is intact, the zombies are loosing their limbs. I kinda hated how house of dead 4 onwards abandoned the decapitation strategy.

Hopefully they improve upon it before release. Like they need to add zombie's reacting to getting shot. In the remake they are looking stiff in both walking animations and when getting shot compared to the original.
I didn't know you could destroy the cheese and kill the mouse eating it at the kitchen 6:59. Also, this is the first time I realize that the fish swimming in that tank has a zombie head 9:02. Wow, I love the details this game has!
Man, this game was such a visual treat back when it was released. Even now the graphics holds up pretty well.

@@masterofdoinit6697 yeah you can get pretty neat results using reshade. I suggest using ambient light+ filmic pass to start with.
The remake was just horrible, it was a downgrade even compared to the saturn and original pc port.

that remake is made by a third-party dev, not SEGA itself.
If SEGA gonna remake it, They need to make this game from the ground up. Because source files and Assets of the original has been lost many years ago

Hopefully someone will be able to reverse engineer the game and get the source code so that we can get proper arcade perfect ports on pc and modern consoles.

@@RiasatSalminSami There was a rumor or a leak that sofie is the zombie boss in hotd2 so I think the normal ending is the canon ending.
Plus I think there are more playable characters than G and Rogan in this game. cuz I remember that when I think I played as a scientist then game started within the house/mansion. Can you make a video on that?
@@popkb On the SEGA Saturn and PC port, you can play as other characters. You can play as Researcher on the PC port.
But that just acts like a character skin as the voice of the players still represent Rogan and G. It was just a bonus option on the home ports of the game.
I don't recall the game starting from within the mansion. If there was one, I haven't seen it. Would have been nice though if we could play as different characters from different routes within the game as bonus.
The rumour about Sophie being final boss is most likely true. She was apparently supposed to be the final boss in the first game. But this idea was scraped.
As for which ending is canon, I think at the time of releasing the game, it wasn't decided. But with the release of House of Dead 3, they decided to pick the good ending of hotd1 as canon since Rogan has a child with Sophie (Lisa Rogan) and his daughter talks about his mom in present tense in that game, meaning Sophie is still alive.
On the arcade version, you can also select different characters by cheat codes.

It was a disgrace.
I can't believe they the animations, voice acting significantly worse than the original. And the VA in original was definitely better than thotd2, so it's not even like they're staying faithful to the source material. The zombie models and facial expressions also look like some kid's movie in the remake. So many things about the remake was wrong.
Unfortunately most people seems to be fine with it. But that just means we will never get a faithful remake of this game.

Canonically Sophie survived since Sophie and Rogan has a daughter in House of Dead 3.
May I ask how you go that nice glowing effect? Last time I ran the game it did not do that. Is it an emulator update?

Do you have the download for this? I've been looking everywhere on the Internet for a downloadable arcade version of The House of the Dead to play on the PC, but none of them had the graphics from the arcade version and the soundtrack was constantly silent throughout the whole course.
Search "House of Dead Sega model 2 ROM" instead and you will find lots of links.
If you search House of dead arcade, the pc version always comes up.

@@Omnificence2016 Well duh.. The emulator will show "Missing file" message on command prompt if you don't have the rom.
Download the House of dead model 2 rom and put the files in a zip file named "hotd" and put it in the "roms" folder on the emulator dir.
We need this remastered version for the PS4

How do you stop the game from flashing from reloads?
By disabling tile maps by pressing *F7*.
But then you you loose the HUD and some other things.
How did you put the bloom effect?

i li ke the colors but where are the subtitles,bullets and lives?
Disabled tile maps to get rid of the white flashing when shooting. But fortunately there is a way to disable the flashing without disabling tile maps now, so my latest video doesnt have that issue.
how did you make reshade work in this emulator? Mine doesn't bring up the menu. how many times I press the home button.
Use the d3d9 dll. Should work then.
As for the reshade used in this video, it was back in 2017, had no UI at all. I was doing all the editing via notepad.

By canon yeah, she did survive event and eventually married Rogan and had Lisa around 2000
Even the producer of the series confirmed Sophie survived after the incident of the Curien Mansion, so yeah, Sophie surviving is the true ending.
