Billy has been the shot of renewal for whom all of us revering the 60s have been longing. Thank you Trey, Bob, Warren and others for the confidence to share the stage with him. He brings out the best in y’all.
Forgive me if you disagree, but this is like re-living early Dead shows with new energy. I really feel like Billy has made it his mission to pass a lost experience on to the younger generations and I hope they see what a gift it is.

@@bradhoag1475 No, he contributes to that legacy. He's absolutely the first to step back and let others shine (see his backup playing for Willie and Neil Young last week), or collab with Bela or Tony Rice, rather than try to outshine them.

Amazing how well Trey band accommodated Billy,,, harder than it looks to let a guest shine.
More to music than technique. You gotta be able to groove. You gotta feel it...then let it flow. This is a great band with a great feel. They groove effortlessly with Billy. As it should be.
That was Jizmazing. The horns and vocals really made it something special.

I was just watching this and about almost halfway through, I was thinking wasted opportunity, the horns need to take over. And shortly after I thought that, the horns did! Nice!
Smiling ear to ear. This is such a cool time to be witnessing. Trey clean and thriving. Billy leading the way for the younger generation of musicians, doing cross genre songs with Cory Wong, who is also mashing up with Tim Henson. Really just loving all of this.
And you have King Gizzard on a crazy trajectory. Music has never been better.

At 30, he's already played with some of the best in bluegrass, rock and country. There's a reason everyone wants to play with him. He's a musical genius, he's authentic and he's just a good dude.

Billy gets better every time I hear him and he was great the first time. Never heard him schmuck up. Always in key. His timing is impeccable. Endurance is as long as everyone else plus 10 minutes.

I have to admit, first time listening to Billy Strings. An appropriate name, for sure. Nice to see music hasn't died yet, and it looks like it won't before I kick the bucket down the road to the next life.
I believe, if my memory is correct, Billy’s Grandmother hung “Strings” on him as a moniker when he was just a kid for his abilities on a variety of stringed instruments!
It was his aunt, but yup! He was playing guitar *and* banjo at the age of 4. As one does 😂
Billy is the future of music and I fucking LOVE that.

Billy sounds really good with a full band
100% and its a testament to his versatility you never have horns or drums in bluegrass I remember on that DGQ20 box set 20 years of david grisman he had a persussionist for short period although it was a member of band mark oconnor, james kershwin, they were all multi instrumenalists. Billy could play a tony rice like flat pickin style acoustic and then do this which I cant understate how many legendary musicians you hear in his playing/phrasing even bela fleck at times sound like banjo hes such an extreme talent. Hes just got it... never slips up once hes on stge hes on.
This sounds good , I agree but its super impressive how intense Billy 2 can get his band jamming on straight strangs
@@chrispyle2942 absolutely that's the roots for him. Like symphony you get percussive sounds out of violin etc again that dgq boxset was musical masterpiece and he's assembled his squad : ). Such prodigious skill on all totally 👍💯
You add Billy Strings to any good touring band and you’d have the best band on the scene. He kicks ass in an genre, on multiple instruments, and writes Grammy-winning albums. The term gets thrown out too much these days, but the dude is truly a generational talent

First time I ever saw either Trey or Billy was at Delfest 2017. I'd not heard of Billy before then. I knew who Trey was, but didn't know much about him other than he played in Phish. To say I was blown away by both of them is an understatement! I was expecting some kind of laid back jam music from Trey's band, but they were high energy, very well rehearsed and tight Billy was sitting in with many other artists the entire festival. Greg Allman passed away that weekend and every artist was throwing in some Allman Brothers as tribute, plus Government Mule was the closing act. What a festival that was.

Reminds me of my bluegrass days in the 70’s - except for the non traditional instrumentation, and the age of the players. We were chopping out tunes at festivals at 22 yrs old! Everyone other than Billy is 50(?) here!

Half of Trey's band are under 45, actually, and Natalie Cressman is like 31. She's barely older than Billy, and has been in that band for 12 years, believe it or not. There are also some really good videos out there of Billy playing when he was around 20, look for Lower Standards (that's the channel), that guy has a lot of basement jam, house party, and other informal stuff from when he was younger that's really fun.
Man, I don't know why, but I tear up every time I hear this song. The lyrics cut so deep and watching these amazing musicians go crazy up there just makes me so damn happy. Thank you TAB and Billy.
