I enjoy how you call out these price gouging stores. No wonder they have all the good stuff. Most people aren't dumb enough to pay their exorbitant prices.
That's CRAZY! I passed on a Blantons at $67 and picked up a Stagg Jr for $65 along with a Russell's Reserver Private Barrel Select, a super nice Wilderness Trail Cask Strength Single Barrel and the last two were under $50. They threw in a Wild Turkey 101 for $20 and tastings were free. WTH man. You made me appreciate my liquor store - SHOUT OUT TO MIKE behind the counter! The only rule with allocated bottles here is you're limited to a single bottle, and I can live with that.
Meijers used to be a great hidden spot until the regular employees got hip to the bourbon hunting and started hiding the Buffalo Trace products for their friends. I was in that Meijers years ago and they had a whole shelf filled with Colonel Taylor and the guy working there had no idea what it was or why I bought all six bottles..lol
2:26 Buffalo Trace for $60 and Eagle Rare for $100??? 🤣 EC BP about double what it should be. No wonder the selection is so good. They probably sell very little. These kind of stores drive me nuts. Just sell what you have at shelf prices and you would be surprised how many people would come back to your store to shop.
Since the liquor stores are jacking up all those hard to find bourbons and allocations I stopped going to them and I just shop at Meijer and Total Wine small businesses I understand charge a little bit more but there is no reason they gouge Bland's up like they do or Weller's or even Taylor's for that matter I have one of those store pics in my area for the Jack Daniels Rye it has a pretty interesting aftertaste which I had to get a custom to cuz it was definitely different I got the Knob Creek Barrel proof store pick Rye from Meijer
The biggest problem with many of the "points stores" is that the only things you want to drink cost points, so you're buying endless amounts of junk you don't want to get something you do. Better off just paying secondary.
If I were a distributor and I walked in seeing those crazy mark ups and the number of unsold cases of allocated products... I would push to have their allocations reduced or removed. Those shops just damage the industry
