Just so everyone realizes , yes these bottles are priced at or close to MSRP but it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will EVER be able to purchase one. They DO NOT let you buy them as they are only there to hype the place up. The occasional Saturday morning drops consist of 150-250 people with a ticket and they will only draw 10 winners to pick from 10 brown bags. They have a lock box that sits in the store with an allocated bottle that you can TRY to unlock , chance is 1 in 10,000 , good luck. They are popular because they make people do different games (events) in order to drive social media hype. Don't really understand why a liquor store would hoard all of these bottles instead of selling them and letting people enjoy drinking them. They are not even close to being the best store in the area. I live five minutes from here and no longer shop here after being a customer for 15 years.
I'm glad you clarified, because it most likely saved a lot of people a lot of time. Clout chasers is what it seems like.
That’s pretty fked the store closest to me is a museum and sells everything double msrp even just a buffalo trace they want 55 for and a Blanton 149?… I’m new to bourbon turning 30 and want a nice bottle for my bday but I’m sure as hell not getting ripped off paying out double msrp for a bottle It will take me months to finish and not even sure if I’ll enjoy.
Any suggestions for me to try getting that’s smooth but high proof and under 60 usd I’d be so thankful for

I ran across a Fortaleza Anejo at a liquor store two weeks back! (Didn't pick it up.)
A few months back I happened to be at a liquor store while they were putting out their delivery of Fortaleza Reposado. They told me it's the first time they had it in since Christmas and they seemed excited to have it.

Stores prices are generally high side of retail
The weekly associated releases are nice but blown up with shot tins of people
Better chances building relationships with your local family shop.
Luck is pretty thin here and takes over night camping, long lines, or lotto lines for 10 mystery bottles
Been there a few times and every visit, I drool over those shelves. Guess that's why they put them up so high. I never knew about the secret back room though...
Last time, I picked up the Creamy Caramel Bullet. Did not disappoint. The staff there is great and if you get their newsletter, you'll know what's coming. It's a great read!

You’re going to love that WT wheated SiB. I got that and one of their high rye bourbon SiB. The wheated is better than Weller 107. Blind it and you’ll see. Wilderness Trail is a such sleeper and I’m here for it.

I was in this store a few months ago and ya it was insane. Idk how they define their loyal customers, if it’s just regulars or a point system but they are crazy good

You can't get any allocated stuff from the wall. It's a big store. But in my opinion liquor at the lake on lake Wylie is a better store with better picks. Also they actually do allocated events for their customers. Instead of having you have to play games. But still a nice store. I miss their allocation drops they use to do. They did the best ones in the area in my opinion. But stopped them unfortunately.

Yeah highly recommend it. The store is definitely smaller than southern spirts. But their selection is solid. But in my opinion best store picks you will find in our area from fort mill to around Charlotte NC area. Like when they get Russell store picks they usually sell in a day.
Last comment - That makes sense about Wathen's. I was just in California and EVERYONE had a store pick and the 12yr Wathen's on shelf.

The Russells I picked up is easily top 3 in my wild turkey selection

I’ve got a bottle of the bakers 8 year 11 month. Very very good. I bought mine secondary from a friend for 100$ but convinced my friend to bundle in his Yellowstone 109 proof for 60& with it. Haven’t opened my Yellowstone yet. But the 8 year 11 month bakers is worth the price

Place has great store picks, but good luck getting your hands on any of the allocated bottles. It's just window shopping unless you're on their email list, then showing up at 5am to wait in line for hours in the cold to get your hands on something fun. It kind of sucks in my opinion.
I guess sometimes you gotta play the game. I heard they used to do big allocation drops about a year ago too
Passed right over the WB Saffle and Bond & Lillard, those are Turkey goodness
WB saffle is $60 for a 375mL bottle its so hard to justify that!
Great videos, it's actually cool to see the stores. Imo all of this allocated game playing by stores is gonna change if interest rates and the economy don't improve. Demand is already down and I'm seeing allocated stuff like Michter's 10 and the toasted rye, JD special releases, Stagg jr, etc. on regular shelves at msrp in MA. Not all the time but way way more than just a year ago. Good news for us taters, bad news for all of the craft distilleries trying to put lipstick on bulldogs.

I’d definitely be grabbing those EW single barrels at that price; I have seen these climb up into the $50s since they got pulled off shelves in all states except Kentucky.
I love the bottle ive had on the shelf for a year or so
I recently picked up a KC18 after searching for most of the year. They dropped a few dozen cases across my state and I got lucky enough to find one. I was actually about the leave this store because they didn't have anything but decided to circle around a little display of gift sets... tucked away on a small table was one KC18 and a few other new releases. Asked the price... $149.99.... DEAL. They even gave me a "member loyalty"... even though I'd never been there before sot hat knocked another $5 off... It's a bottle I find pretty often out in the wild for $250-300 but I was holding out for MSRP... and then I paid less. The weird thing about the KC line up is that you will find KC18 far more often than KC15. I've gone on pretty extensive bourbon hunts in multiple states and I've only found KC15 twice... once at $90 (and I regret only buying 1) and once at $180.
I see them rather often in SC for about $125 so $90 is a steal! Good grab! Cheers! And thanks for watching!
Southern Spirits is great, but they've kinda gotten weird over the past year or two. They used to do big allocated drops a few times a year, but now they save all their allocations for these gimmicky games and blind lotteries. I don't completely hate it since now it's not just the people who can afford to camp out for 2 weekdays who are guaranteed the good bottles, but they've also been raising their prices (used to be right at MSRP, but have been elevating those slowly too, but still better than some other stores I guess). At this point I'd rather just camp out for Mecklenburg County ABC's big drop twice a year. Still a cool store to live close to here in Charlotte, but wish they'd just go back to their old ways sometimes.
Agree with the weirdness at Southern Spirits. My friends and I don’t bother with them anymore.

@Bourbon_Hunter their selection is much more well-rounded compared to the local counties (Mecklenburg and Union). But for me, it's the staff. Honest, down-to-earth and they know their customers. Drops aren't too bad either

@@Bourbon_Hunter I've found Stagg, Decadence, WJ13, Bookers, etc there. Being ABC it's hit or miss at all of them but it is the best ABC in or around Charlotte. Also there is another ABC store on the way that is worth stopping at if you make the trip to Marshville, in Monroe. Found a bottle of Stagg there on the shelf for $49.95 back in August. They seem to put tater on the shelf randomly when they get their allocated bottles.

I’m over three hours from there but stopping there Thursday morning after trip out to Tennessee and Kentucky. A long ride but I might need to just go out there every month or two and make it my regular haunt. There is absolutely nothing like this in the Myrtle Beach area. I feel like I live in the bourbon Sahara Desert compared to this!

These stores have to up charge on allocated bottles. They must purchase a lot of the everyday stock in order to get the allocation. Sometimes they have to sell the everyday stock at a much lower margin just to move it. They make up for that will higher prices on allocated bottles.
They have like a game system and stuff set up. Its on their website. They do cool stuff tho so its at least entertaining

Just know none of those pappy’s or the stuff on the wall is available aside from special events and mystery lottos and stuff they host. But I think from Piedmont the rock hill area is worth the drive to find store picks and other allocations some other stores may have around town

ABC stores in NC are all closed on Sundays and that’s my only day I have available to travel

Dude Wathens is pretty good. Similar profile to Blanton's. A liquor store owner that I've built a relationship with says that Wathens is better than Blanton's. They even did a store pick. Not a bad bottle at all.

Probably not because GA has a much higher allocated drop rate. They do contests, games, drawings, hide and seek and stuff on saturdays which is pretty cool

Not sure how I feel about the whole loyalty program deal, I've never heard of one at any store I've been to but I live in MI. There is no way I'm finding those bottles here for that cheap but I do like knowing that if I make a 2 hour drive to find a great bottle, I can buy it no questions asked.

They’re horrible with allocated product. I live in NC and check my local ABC stores on a regular basis. Doing that is easier than getting it from them and cheaper in many cases. In the past 30 days I’ve purchased Blanton’s, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace at MSRP.
All that good stuff and you can’t buy it gotta love the reward system
