😂😂😂
Djent is not a djender
@@feetbowl3376 djlike that!
ffs i bursted out laughing xDD
@@feetbowl3376 I'll make it into one.
Mark my words...
I love how these guys used a retro-sounding synth wave ballad to sing about nostalgia and the passing of time. I live for shit like that.
Silhouette right?
Especially right after the heaviest song on the album. They knew what they were trying to do to us with this 😅
This song proves how integral Spencer is to Periphery. Even without massive drums and Djenty guitars, this song is still Periphery.
Every member is has such distinct style, and yet are able to make music that’s cohesive and unique. They really are something special.
Jake deserves some credit too, this track makes the best out of him
The 197P5....
Hells yeah! Very clever. Lol
This is literally ’Me’
Lol😂
Truth
I love that this comes right after the heaviest segment in the album
Its like a palet cleanser before they kick your ass some more.
I have this image in my head of them finishing up the tracking on Everything is Fine and saying “that was sick! Now, let’s do the exact opposite of that!”
Yes, perfect placement in the track listing. It's like a nice breather in-between two chunks of heavy mayhem.
This song is wonderfully placed in the track listing. Comes right after the heaviest song on the album and acts as an atmospheric midpoint interlude. This feels like the culmination of Periphery's more pop oriented songs, and of Jake's heavenly electronic work which has slowly been taking up a bigger role in the band's sound. And what a beautiful blending of the two it is.
This kind of crazy genre shifting is exactly what I expect and want from a new Periphery album at this point. If nothing else, Periphery is always creative, uninhibited, and true to themselves.
I am amazed how Spencer absolutely nailed it on this album
feeeling ya here at 3am
That line "Viewing the past self like he’s only a friend of mine" is so haunting and the delivery is so powerful. Very mature songwriting. This song is a stand-out.
This one got me really choked up a couple days ago, had me feeling very proud about the progress I've made in the past year and the person I'm becoming,, immeasurably thankful that this band is a part of my life, and loving the creativity and vibes of this new album. Cheers, and much love.
Hey. I don't know you. But I'm proud of you too homie
What he said ^ glad to be proud of you bud!
Proud of you man. I'm right there with you, thankful for this day.
Song got me in tears at my kitchen table.
“We shed our past down the wishing well.”
Finally a new Nik Mystery song!
He's also been working on a solo album but it's taken so long I wonder if this was an idea from those sessions
We need more of this...
Came here to say this hahaha.. 1 year late
I mainly listen to Periphery for their metal, but God damn this is so good! When I first heard it, I was like "ok I get it, but not my vibe"
7 listens later and I'm crying and singing the lyrics, same for Dying Star. Such an awesome song about self reflection and realizations, staying incredibly sad yet inspirational at the same time. I can't get over how much I love this dynamic, I would never listen to anything else that sounds like this. Periphery are solidifying themselves as one of the greatest bands of all time.
This one was an instant favorite, similarly to Lune. I'm a suckered for synthwave and future symth, and this song hit just right for me and was a great pallet cleanser, since it came right after the heaviest song on the album.
Incredible!! This album is fulfilling all my musical needs.
I love the confidence in the direction of the record. The song writing is getting getter and better. Scary thing is I still believe the best is yet to come. Amazing job guys.
This isn't exactly my favorite genre, but umm, HELLO that production quality?? This sounds huge.
I would love for Periphery to do a full-blown pop-rock album.
They was make a new genre called "Neutral".

Well said Progressive Experimental Album
Me too.
@@vicibanzioNu-tral lol
Massive fan since your original album and I'm always down for the heavy but honestly, I'd quite happily take an album of more experimental stuff like this. Absolutely beautiful song :)
About to turn 41 and have been listening since the soundcloud days. I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate you and what you've brought to my life throughout the years. New album is so much I look forward to in a Periphery album and so much more. This song in particular is one of my favs and hits home. Much love and thanks to all you guys. Wish I could see you Sunday!
The best Backstreets Boys album so far
This is my favorite The 1975 song!!
It makes even more sense when you realize Spencer has covered "Me" in the past
lol I was going to comment on the similarity but I KNEW it'd be here somewhere already
Wow I did not expect an 80s-tinged synthpop ballad on a Periphery album, but you guys have really taught me to expect the unexpected. I love this song, it gives me some Chvrches/The Midnight vibes two other bands I love!
It reminded me of The Midnight too, and just made me love it more 🥰
Gigabased The Midnight enjoyer
The Midnight!! Yes! Imagine if they did a collab. O3O
@@SortofUnpleasant that's a collab I am here for, I would love to hear that 😅 There's a synthwave cover of Lune a guy did and it is amazing imo.
@@Mercuryscomet25 holy shit i need to listen to that
It's super different but this has a vibe I really enjoy.
I know people tend to gravitate towards Periphery for their riffs and technical prowness, but I think this song speaks to their eagerness to try new things and do what they want.
Kick back with a drink and just take it in, it's a good time imo.
let's say it's a big contrast when you listen to it right after Everything is fine loll still a great song I loved on the first listen even if its almost electro-poppy, love the vibe a lot!
Lyrics:
Love, loss, light circling everybody
It gets hazy as the years begin to breathe
Step back in the memory, relive a parody of me
He gets hazy, move along in disbelief
We're not the people we once were
And we've moved on, seeking out answers (Answers)
Viewing the past self
Like he's only a friend of mine
The world is turning as we grow
We soak in the afterglow
It's only part of the path we take
Left in our wake
The colors of our past will fade to gray
This life replays in stereo
We soak in the afterglow
Leave clues hanging from the wall
See him walking down the hall
Piecing the puzzle undone and
It's like a movie that replays, but he can't find the boy inside
Passing through all the hues, blue vibe like it's a funeral
Funeral for somebody
Close the coffin of his mind
He was only a friend of mine
Where does he go and is he just a silhouette?
What do we know?
What little of him do we know?
Just a part of who we were still in the light, oh
The world is turning as we grow
We soak in the afterglow
It's only part of the path we take
Left in our wake
The colors of our past will fade to gray
This life replays in stereo
We soak in the afterglow (Afterglow)
Afterglow
To purge the cells of someone else
We shed our past down the wishing well
Your seven years
Have come and gone so well
To purge the cells of someone else
We shed our past down the wishing well
Your seven years
Have come and gone so well
The world keeps turning as we grow
We soak in the afterglow
It's only part of the path we take
Left in our wake
The colors of our past will fade to gray
This life replays in stereo
We soak in the afterglow
one of my favorite periphery songs ever... my gosh the lyrics are so beautiful. this whole album honestly, so full of beautiful ideas and emotions. might be my fave periphery album to date
This song just feels nostalgic. Love this ambience.
This tune was such a perfect break in between all the heavy riffs in PV. Amazing fucking album.
Jake Bowen x The Midnight. Love it.
The Midnight vibes. Love it.
One of my favorite songs on P5
Spencer can literally fit into any picture frame you hold him in
This song really speaks to me on a personal level. The synthwave is amazing and used well with the guitar. I thrive for the ethereal feel of music. This is an amazing ballad. All of these sounds create an amazing tone for the theme of the song as well.
What others do u like that you would describe as ethereal
Periphery is my favorite pop band.
Feels like if Spencer was singing on a Four Seconds Ago CD.
Dude this is nothing short of awesome. This places among my favorite 2 or 3 songs on the album!
The beginning sounds like Prince. Very nice.
This might be my fav on this album
Yeah cuz there’s no screaming! Brothers got chops….no need to scream like you’re angry!
@@KRUNK42069 First Amendment KRUNK! Sorry you’re butt hurt 😢
@@CutandShoot5x5 I want BOTH
@@robdubent I get that….the lead singer has such an awesome voice I just prefer hearing what he’s singing! Staind with Aaron Lewis screamed in his Dysfunktion Album but changed into a more popular band as he developed his chops and we craved more from him…just a thought!
The lamest popiest mainstream song. Guess we can see what the fanbase of periphery has become.
This'll probably be one of the more divisive songs in the album but I love my synthwave and retro throwback music, and I'm not afraid at all to say this is one of my favorite Periphery songs already.
Great work on the album. Elite tier album.
It instantly reminded me of the last TMV album
ua-cam.com/video/1xjldicU1Ng/v-deo.html
My paramount split song. I split back in April and I just cant sing well along to it. the knot will un-tie eventually. Thanks Periphery for this great song.
“We’re going in synthwave territory” - Jake
Periphery, every time you release an album, song or EP you all get so much better, the guitar works, the incredible vocals of spencer and the great drumming. And god the songs are always written SO well. By far my favourite band.
Get them new retro wave vibes jus a lil and I love it, every song is its own entity with Periphery, Spencer kills this
1:37 I wasn't looking at my screen, and I thought I was getting Rickrolled!
😂😂
Very reminiscent of The 1975, loved the atmosphere in this
my first thought as well
thats what i thought too!
So glad to see other periphery / 75 fans in here
There’s nothing on earth comparable to this album. I can’t believe something like this exists, it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard
Perfect articulation of my feelings
i agree with the sentiment. this album is fucking amazing, i honestly did not expect it to be THIS good. like, periphery are my top 3 bands but damn.. they keep elevating themselves
It's not even their top 3 albums lol
@@phiavir5594 we have different taste
@@phiavir5594 I agree. This album is still great but this song is not for me and I feel drags this album down. I for sure like Hail Stan more than PV but it's still awesome!
I took a fat dab and listened to this and my mind was blown lol one of my favorites on the album! Spencer’s lyrics are absolutely the best! So relatable!
This song is beyond stunningly gorgeous. The songwriting is absolutely top-tier and the production and mixing/mastering are some of the best I've ever heard. Don't listen to all the negative comments about this song guys - this song is incredible just like all the stuff you guys make. Absolutely love this entire album 🤘
I am loving this. What is so progressive is being a prog metal band that produces a song sounding like the 1975
We can feel the sythwave here! Yezzaaaa
this confirms my prediction Periphery are slowly becoming a synth pop band! At least they'll do it right.
I’ve never listened to this song in full before and it made me so emotional
The feeling of The 1975, a very solid song.
well they just take ideas and sounds from other bands and people and pass them off as their own so there you go
@@dirklives1168 we all rip off Meshuggah
How you just gonna drop a “Run Away With Me”? That’s crazy. This is a love letter to pop music, and I love it. Instant classic.
Thank you Jake
What an amazing song, I need more of this 💞
Beautiful.
Love this song.
Calm.
brazil loves periphery!
"Left in our wake" feels like a call back to IV. Probably obvious, but it's probably my favorite part of the song. These lyrics hit really deep. I love you guys.
To say I love this is an understatement. This song is a testament to how diverse you guys are and honestly, it gives me goosebumps. You should be immensely proud of what you've achieved with the album - especially this track, it's beautiful.
When Periphery does metal, rock, pop, easy listening, adult contemporary, and several other genres better than industry "leaders."
They do have the versatility of a band like Devin Townsend ! Both are so good in adding a fusion of genres because that’s what talented artists can bring to the table
This just makes me want more Nik Mystery
I love this song!
I'm gonna introduce metal fans to Periphery with this song to confuse them
Embarassing, but this made me tear up on first listen...
Beautiful song boys. love yall
No not embarrassing man, I'm waiting to restart the song now to cry again
No embarrass. Letting yourself cry is stronk. Cry more, even.
Please do more!
Had a futuristic Cyberpunk style dream and this was playing while I was on this like hover board/drone/skateboard thing, didnt even know the name of the song and havent heard it since this album cam out. Had to come here and hear it again.
This is my favourite Taylor Swift song! Absolute banger.
She wishes.
reminded me more of dua lipe or something lol
This comment makes more sense since she’s also a 1975 fan
Liking everything I heard from the new album so far, this is a great song.
i love this song so much ❤
Thank you Periphery.
u really capture my music taste with this kind of a song on the album. i love me some carly rae jepsen.
i know that this is gonna be a very polarising song, but as a huge fan of the 1975, i dig this very much.
I feel you man. My first thought as well. It's very reminiscent of iliwys production
This is an official petition for the boys to play this live and Misha to use a Keytar
This is magnificent. Pure joy to listen to.
...
add this one to the "feels" list as well lol
When I tell you I started bawling....😅😊
I can't get over how well Periphery Synthwave works
I fuckin love the last chorus, it’s so poppy but so catchy/happy. Is it the same key as the main chorus but major instead of minor? Or a whole different key
My song of the year
The more I listen to this track the more I appreciate. Granted I've appreciated since the start haha.
But the lyrics in this song reflect so much on how I feel nowadays
Yes Periphery, keep breaking down them walls 😁 🔨
I love this 80's pops? vibes too.
Give me a full album of that! ❤
What the actual fuck. Fucking so good man.
Yes very Nik Mystery ish !! ❤👍🏻
I love it. John Hughes would be proud.
This one is a bop! Love the synth piano and the 80’s feels
The ironic thing is that a metal band is managed to make a better pop song than all of the pop artists in the last 10 years
This is my favorite LANY song!
Prince vibes on this one
A surprise but a pleasant one
I feel like this could have been a great closer even if it doesn't explode near the end like they usually do
…amazing
Periphery featuring 1975.
I cant be the only one that hears it.
I'm a huge music fan, but my main genres are probably synthwave, vaporwave, math rock and post-rock. this album fucking nailed it for me. This song would sit in a The Midnight album. Love it
Im getting slight MURAMASA vibes from the intro
The people ripping on this track 100% think that djent is a genre
Surprise, there are no rules in prog ;)
this is INCREDIBLE
At t his point why limit yourself to one genre, most of us have a wide range of music we listen to. Vocals are 10/10, we need a side project!
Nik mystery. DUH!
Check out Nik Mystery! Closest you'll get. There's also Light Angel from Spencer's ENDUR project.
anyone know more tracks like this?
Riverside did a bunch of synth-pop music on their new album ID.entity, now Periphery - this at the same time Rush Signals is reissued... do we see a trend?
Amazing
Y'all saved me.
only Jesus can save.
