First time I heard this track, I just sat and wept happy tears at my computer for the entire last 6-7 minutes. Uematsu's music was special to me too, growing up. Periphery was this cool, cutting-edge metal band when I was in high school, but I kept listening to them over the years because of some unspeakable connection that made their music really resonate on some fundamental level. Misha's outspoken love of Nobuo's music over the years, through covers or homages in earlier albums, is certainly part of that connection. It's among his most palpable influences in his contributions to the band. (Well, that and Holdsworth.) As soon as I saw online this one's working title written on the white board at one of your songwriting seshs, I knew it was gonna be a special one. Glad you kept the working title too. :)
As far as album enders go, which obviously these lads know how to end an album, this I think is my new favorite. It just hits on a different level for me.
You forgot about Racecar. This is on of my favorites but Racecar is the GOAT of Periphery album enders which says a lot because Stranger Things also is one The greatest ever is Third Eye by Tool IMO
@@HugoStiglitz88 You ain’t wrong, Third Eye is a masterpiece. Racecar is too! I also really like Stranger Things, probably a top 5 Periphery song for me honestly.
So many emotions coming out in this album man. The way they blend smooth & clean with disjointed & heavy is so insanely impressive and expands the area for emotional expression so much. There's bossa nova (dracul gras), straight jazz (wildfire), riffs of video game music (here)... and it's all blended together in a big soup of orchestral film score outros and just downright heavy ripper shit. Periphery has changed my perspective a lot on what music can be. It just feels like there's no limits to what can be done while listening to these tracks.
Wow! I am glad I'm not the only one that had some emotional responses to this tune! I see lots of FF7 fans mentioning being brought to tears...I have never played any Final Fantasy game in my life, yet I was still moved to tears with this epic tune. These gentlemen are ultra gifted
A few days before the album released, I had a dream that I was listening to this album and one song, that wasn't any of the singles that got released prior, just made me cry and it was in public too. After taking in the album more, I think this was the song in my dream. Despite what the title says, this song feels like a thank you to the fans, both old and new. Thank you so much Periphery. Love you guys
I will be first to admit that after the first listen of this album, I wasn't as impressed as I wished to be, especially after being blown away by how good Hail Stan was. But that album took several listens to appreciate. And here we are again, after several listens, I realize how genius this album is and my hat is off to this band for making three classics in a row( P. III being not as epic as these two, imo) but almost no band is able to create 3 classic albums in their careers, let alone on a row! And while everyone is amazing, I can't believe how good Spencer is. Singers make or break good bands. And he is so gifted not only at singing at crazy high and low registers, plus screaming, but he can created very catchy and memorable vocals in a very much a prog leaning metal band. You guys are amazing and just like fine wine, as you all grow, u will keep making just as good and better material, if better is even possible. Just like Avenged Sevenfold- they keep growing and growing. So Periphery, you are one of the leading bands in today's/tomorrow metal.
And, I've finally reached the end. This album was beautiful, from the brutal djent, the jazzy guitar playing, and the etheral synths. I applaud it both for it's variety and the sheer greatness of the music. It's gonna be hard to pick a favorite track.
i rarely listen to this composition because it makes me cry every god damn time. extremely well written, paced and filled with tons of EVERYTHING. bravo. Periphery. you guys are my favourite band forever.
thank you periphery. no amount of words can describe how much this song means to me. it saved my life when i was in a dark place and motivated me to become a better person, that i had so much more to live for. "the curtain drops closed, i don't wanna go, pardon me, the past is over" my god dude. i love you periphery and thank you for being in my life.
This has to be my favorite song on the album. Spencer’s vocals are front and center and really stole the show. I love me some happy and melodic vocals/guitars. Happy Djent if you will 🤭
Wow! I'm just discovering Periphery and wow! As a lifelong Yes fan, this two song ending of Dracul Gras into Thanks Nobuo feels a bit like their dark Close to the Edge. Which is to say a side-long epic of transitions between movements, each more rocking and amazing than the last. This is gonna take multiple listens to assimilate, but on first listen it feels like their magnum opus. My new favorite band. If this is the current state of the evolution of prog from Yes and King Crimson, I'm all in. Love it!
It's 1999. The 10 years old me is lost in the world map of ff7 for the first time. I barely understand a word in English but I finally made it out Midgar after ages. I'm amazed. Speechless. And I keep on questioning me what impact this music will have 20 years from now. Here we are
The notes on the ending piano at 9:35 clearly recall the ending of The Gods Must Be Crazy. I fucking love this band, proud of being a fan since 2010... I grew up with them. What a masterpiece of an album this is!
If you told me 10 years ago that my fav band would continue to release bangers, I would have never believed you. And yet here I stand corrected. This song is pure bliss for me. And for the stage of my life I'm at now, it's more powerful and meaningful to me than if it were released 10 years ago. Thank you guys for continuing to make life worthwhile for me. Always and forever since the Bulb days.
@@HugoStiglitz88 Certainly not for lack of quality. Most of my fav bands growing up tend to move on with other projects or their lives and I dunno, just didn't know if Periphery were going to be one of those bands or not. Glad they're still around and in full force. I'll admit my initial comment was worded poorly. Too caught up in the wave of the music atm 😂
@@Jacev_ nah man it's fair comment. A lot of bands change over time and often for the worse. It's hard to crank out bangers for even 5 years let alone 10 or 20 I just would think it's less likely, but not impossible.
@@HugoStiglitz88 Absolutely. You see it time and time again so to see Periphery remain consistent with their quality is an absolute treat. Mind you, sometimes it doesn't bother me if a band has a change of direction that I don't necessarily agree with or even like (eg Linkin Park). At least they were still able to make music that will remain a permanent fixture in my playlist. Just that when Periphery releases new music, I'm always excited when that happens.
i know its meant to be a compliment but what a weird thing to say haha, it sounds like not having faith in them, 10 years is not that much for a band, i wouldnt have a doubt if anyone told me that.
I've listened to this nonstop. It makes me feel so happy and nostalgic. I can see myself flying around in the Highwind, and also it makes me want to hug Nobuo for the years of magic. Final Fantasy just isn't Final Fantasy without him.
This song has grown on me so much now. I was hoping for a heavy album since the first 3 singles were and was meh at first with this song but it is my absolute FAVORITE now. Holy shit how did I not notice how great this song is. Especially the part after the orchestral break holy SHIT that was epic. This is gonna be the song that I will always keep in my back pocket if I ever need to be uplifted.
Final Fantasy (especially FF7) was the biggest bonding experience between my twin, myself and our dad when we were younger - this song gave me such happy-tear flashbacks; helped me remember moments like that is why I love my family so much. A strong take, but a relevant one given that this song helped magnify the emotions. Thanks Periphery boiz.
I love how they put all these easter eggs in their songs, the "You're shining and it shows" of The way the news goes, or the FF VII's references, this band is an unique and beautiful experience 🖤💓🖤
My favorite band is STILL my favorite band. The thing about Periphery is they take me there…there are literally moments during their songs where I just close my eyes and spread my arms like wings because it hits me that right 💙💙💙
This album is not only my favorite of the year but probably of the last couple years too. What a transcending song! The ending harmonizes perfectly with the beginning of Haken's The Mountain.. for those who cannot wait until July 🤘 Please keep making the music that you enjoy, it's such a bliss each time.
Spencer/Periphery have written a lot of amazing, intricately-layered harmonies over the years. 0:49 might be my favorite. Gorgeous. They know how to close an album.
I loved this when I listened last night. Then I read the lyrics while listening and had a full on panic attack. Hands were numb for almost an hour. It was beautiful. The talk of basking - P4 Reptile The shining and it shows - P3 Way the news goes Just before talking about how it "doesnt matter" the song plays in reverse. Like you're passing and life flashes before you. You "dont want to go" but the curtain closes. Then 3 minutes of just sheer bliss, constant chills. Slowly settling in to rest. Periphery are so god damn good at taking the worst parts of life and making them beautiful. Tearing up all over again.
My my, one of the best modern Metal/Metal-Fusion bands giving a nod to Video Game Music God?!? Sure, just twist my arm further! 😁 Love the Claudio Sanchez-esque vocal touches; and could you imagine Periphery touring with The Black Mages?!?!? 🤯🥳

Thanks Nobuo, and Thanks Periphery for yet another amazing album! Every time I listen to new music from you guys is like I'm finding my favorite band all over again. Each album is so different but also so consistently amazing!
The final fantasy 7 main theme was played at my best friend's funeral who was also my best man when I was married, he took his own life before this song was released, he loved periphery, he also loved playing piano and would play this song constantly so i feel like it's the universe trying to say something. He would of loved this.

I...did Batman write this? Are you giving up the Bat? Gotham needs you! You can't just be Man! .Unless during the day your working on your Batman djent..I'd listen to that 🤣🤷
It's been 10 months. How are you doing now? I wish the best. I feel you.
Amazing man, thanks for sharing
Lyrics:
Taking a look
Your past is the weight that takes hold of your brain
Same as before
The shock ripping through
It all hits the floor
You fear it, so feel it
Feel the apparition selling me lies
He'll eclipse the beacon holding light
A bleeding contradiction
We'll never harmonize, you and I
The void shall be your way
Another trigger in mind because it says so
Says so
Cut out the perilous lies
Beyond the deathblow we go
The past position was wearing me down
But this preservation's newly found
The contradiction was bleeding me dry
You and I will never harmonize
Nothing lasts forever, and thank God it doesn't
Drifting towards the center of serenity
The dark of night has given way, and thank fucking God it did
Whether eternally, or just a moment, bask in the light
Another trigger in mind because it says so
Says so
Cut out the perilous lies
Beyond the deathblow we go
Another trigger in mind because it says so
Says so
Cut out the perilous lies
Because it says so, says so
Beyond the deathblow we go
You fear it, so fear it
Nothing lasts forever so you've gotta make it right
Drifting towards the center
You've gotta remember
This is a moment divine
A silent wave
For just a moment in time, the patterns are aligning
Now the climb to bask in the light
They know it never mattered what they had known
They know that part of him that shines like so
They know it never mattered what they had known
They know that part of me that shines like gold
The curtain drops closed
I don't wanna go
Pardon me, the past is over
The curtain drops closed
I don't wanna go
Rest the soul
Shine like gold
They know it never mattered what they had known
They know that part of him that shines like gold
They know it never mattered what they had known
They know, yeah
Rest the soul, shine like gold
Thanks!
This is a moment divine... boy I'll say.. what a masterpiece
(Well, that and Holdsworth.)
As soon as I saw online this one's working title written on the white board at one of your songwriting seshs, I knew it was gonna be a special one. Glad you kept the working title too. :)
When Spencer sang that part at 5:33 I got deep in the feels and then it dropped. No words, wow.
As far as album enders go, which obviously these lads know how to end an album, this I think is my new favorite. It just hits on a different level for me.
You forgot about Racecar. This is on of my favorites but Racecar is the GOAT of Periphery album enders which says a lot because Stranger Things also is one
The greatest ever is Third Eye by Tool IMO
@@HugoStiglitz88 You ain’t wrong, Third Eye is a masterpiece. Racecar is too! I also really like Stranger Things, probably a top 5 Periphery song for me honestly.
1. Thanks Nobuo
2. Lune
3. Satellites
4. Racecar
5. Stranger Things
6. Masamune
*As far as album enders go IMO
So many emotions coming out in this album man. The way they blend smooth & clean with disjointed & heavy is so insanely impressive and expands the area for emotional expression so much. There's bossa nova (dracul gras), straight jazz (wildfire), riffs of video game music (here)... and it's all blended together in a big soup of orchestral film score outros and just downright heavy ripper shit. Periphery has changed my perspective a lot on what music can be. It just feels like there's no limits to what can be done while listening to these tracks.
I've loved Nobuo's music since I was little this song has sent me into a pure state of elation.
Fucking well done guys.
Wow! I am glad I'm not the only one that had some emotional responses to this tune! I see lots of FF7 fans mentioning being brought to tears...I have never played any Final Fantasy game in my life, yet I was still moved to tears with this epic tune. These gentlemen are ultra gifted
That outro plays the weirdest stuff on my feelings. ❤
This song is a sunrise after too dark a night
Periphery yet again, proving they're one of the biggest legends in "Djent" history 👏 dem Proggy SquareSoftcore riffs go hard 🔥
Periphery really knows how to end an album.
one of hte best tracks Periphery have ever released. love it with all of my heart
I can't seem to choose a favourite song. Each new time I listen to each song on this album, they become more and more of a masterpiece composition.
Same, I was addicted to Dracul Gras for the longest time, then I decided to listen to this one, and its been the only thing I've been thinking about
And, I've finally reached the end. This album was beautiful, from the brutal djent, the jazzy guitar playing, and the etheral synths. I applaud it both for it's variety and the sheer greatness of the music.
It's gonna be hard to pick a favorite track.
Echoing the same here brother, agree with you 10000%
i rarely listen to this composition because it makes me cry every god damn time. extremely well written, paced and filled with tons of EVERYTHING. bravo. Periphery. you guys are my favourite band forever.
If I tried screaming along to the lyrics at the end, I'd lose it. Those lyrics hit fucking hard. Love this album so much
Currently playing on loop while at work
Anyone else feel like Periphery has given them a reason for living?
No but this song made me happy to be alive. Mark Holcomb Masterpiece just like Waxed Wings and every thing else he writes (shout out to Pale Aura)
Me too. Me too..
Idk about a reason for living, but they certainly inspired me to get back to work on an album I've been putting off for a few years now.
No 🎉 🎊
help me get back from a rut back in 2014, one of the reasons I started playing guitar again (although I don't and can't play djent)
thank you periphery.
no amount of words can describe how much this song means to me.
it saved my life when i was in a dark place and motivated me to become a better person, that i had so much more to live for.
"the curtain drops closed, i don't wanna go, pardon me, the past is over" my god dude.
i love you periphery and thank you for being in my life.
That FF7 motif at 3:37 is everything
I thought the same lol
Clouds theme
Holy shit. its the beginning of the world map OST
This has to be my favorite song on the album. Spencer’s vocals are front and center and really stole the show. I love me some happy and melodic vocals/guitars. Happy Djent if you will 🤭
Mark is the king of happy metal
This feels like a p2 track, haven’t felt this way listening to a Periphery track in a while. Mrak is a riff god. This and Wax Wings are amazing.
@@clunt2548 was thinking the same thing. It has a hint of mile zero to it. Not much but just a touch
I've just riding my motorcycle on the way home and try to listen some new periphery songs and this outro man. Who said im in tears ?!🥲
Great song, lyrics, and feeling to it. When scrolling through the video, the preview looks like a washing machine.
Love it!
“The curtain drops closed
I don’t wanna go
Pardon me, but the past is over
The curtain drops closed
I don’t wanna go
Rest the soul
Shine like gold”
It's 1999. The 10 years old me is lost in the world map of ff7 for the first time. I barely understand a word in English but I finally made it out Midgar after ages. I'm amazed. Speechless. And I keep on questioning me what impact this music will have 20 years from now. Here we are
This one genuinely made me shed a tear.
The quiet part almost got me. Tears of joy tho
This is my favourite Periphery song ever. They have never been this good. What a song.
I'd believe it. Tools been putting out bangers for 30 years now. Not a single bad album in sight
It's hard to crank out bangers for even 5 years let alone 10 or 20
I just would think it's less likely, but not impossible.
Just wanted to say thank you for this album. Sincerely, thank you.
I've listened to this nonstop. It makes me feel so happy and nostalgic. I can see myself flying around in the Highwind, and also it makes me want to hug Nobuo for the years of magic. Final Fantasy just isn't Final Fantasy without him.
The most beautiful song on the album. Hands down
Agreed, amazing tune
This song has grown on me so much now. I was hoping for a heavy album since the first 3 singles were and was meh at first with this song but it is my absolute FAVORITE now. Holy shit how did I not notice how great this song is. Especially the part after the orchestral break holy SHIT that was epic. This is gonna be the song that I will always keep in my back pocket if I ever need to be uplifted.
ngl this song feels like a good bye. dont leave me periphery
The thing about Periphery is they take me there…there are literally moments during their songs where I just close my eyes and spread my arms like wings because it hits me that right 💙💙💙
I'm not sure what it is but Spencers vocals throughout this whole album give such a foxy shazam feel at parts. Absolutely phenomenal album
Thanks Periphery
This album is not only my favorite of the year but probably of the last couple years too.
Thank you for reminding me just how much I love and cherish music, especially metal and all it's beautiful intricacies. You've shot up to my top 3 favorite bands of all time in the span of less than a year as I browsed through your discography. Thank you all for making me smile and reminding me just how amazing music is.
Most of all; Thanks, Nobuo.
When a band's music is literally so good that it changes your life.
This band just leveled up once again...
Teared up on this one! Really can’t put into words how this music has helped over the years! Wow!
This has become one of my favorite tracks off the new album. There is a lot of depth and emotion in this. 6:44 is beautiful.
What a transcending song! The ending harmonizes perfectly with the beginning of Haken's The Mountain.. for those who cannot wait until July 🤘
Please keep making the music that you enjoy, it's such a bliss each time.
The talk of basking - P4 Reptile
The shining and it shows - P3 Way the news goes
Just before talking about how it "doesnt matter" the song plays in reverse.
Like you're passing and life flashes before you.
You "dont want to go" but the curtain closes.
Then 3 minutes of just sheer bliss, constant chills. Slowly settling in to rest. Periphery are so god damn good at taking the worst parts of life and making them beautiful. Tearing up all over again.
i really love you guys so much
My my, one of the best modern Metal/Metal-Fusion bands giving a nod to Video Game Music God?!? Sure, just twist my arm further! 😁
Love the Claudio Sanchez-esque vocal touches; and could you imagine Periphery touring with The Black Mages?!?!? 🤯🥳
Listened to you guys since P1, and only just played the FF7 remake. What a journey, lads. Every single album. Well done.
This is easily by far the best song of this decade. I get goosebumps every single time it’s played even on repeat. There have also been multiple mornings I’ve woken up with this song playing in my mind. You guys have truly made something special with this song and album.
No doubt brother
The way the news goes
That breakdown after the 6th minute... Spencer really nailed it. So amazed for the energy you put inside your music, guys!
Just finished my first listen-through. What an album. All over the place, as expected, and worth every damn moment. The outro just made me smile to myself for about 10 minutes straight. Thank you, Periphery.
This album is a Masterpiece! So cohesive and alive. Well worth the wait!
The outro and just staring at the waters .
Nothing better than that feeling :) thanks ! It’s soo dope .
Thanks Nobuo, and Thanks Periphery for yet another amazing album! Every time I listen to new music from you guys is like I'm finding my favorite band all over again. Each album is so different but also so consistently amazing!
Спасибо за альбом.Спасибо за труд.Новому поколению стоит его послушать.Одобряем

The final fantasy 7 main theme was played at my best friend's funeral who was also my best man when I was married, he took his own life before this song was released, he loved periphery, he also loved playing piano and would play this song constantly so i feel like it's the universe trying to say something. He would of loved this.
If this song don’t move you, or touch you, in some type of way. Then you aren’t listening. Existentialism is real, and life is fragile. Death is the most real thing that ever existed, so don’t let life just pass you by… ❤
6:08 - Put on proper headphones and noticed a certain callback to P III. Nicely done gentlemen. This is growing to be my favourite song off of the album.
As an Uematsu fan/Final fantasy fan and a Periphery fan this song is mega amazing sensory overload. An amazing tribute to one of the greatest composers of our era.
The guitar dorks aren't gonna like this...but Spencer stole the show here. His range is absolutely insane and I'm sure we can all agree he's a universe tier talent
That nostalgic tune throughout the whole song 🥲
This reminded me why I love Mark Holcomb's playing so much. Of course it's not just him, the whole band is amazing but that first chorus riff is soo good
The little beeps and blips in the slow part at 4:40 then they bring it back with the drums @ 6:45
Crazy and beautiful
you just had to reference the way the news goes at the end didn't you. STOP MAKING ME CRY
I know the song is about Nobuo Uematsu and final fantasy, but the first time I listened to it I thought of walking on a beach next to the sea, with a gentle wind. Thats what it reminded me of for some reason
What a journey that was, and a stunning way to finish it. Bravo!
I thought Periphery had abandoned that beautiful self-titled era style direct modulation. What a lovely surprise. This song should be called Thanks Misha 😊 🤘
Damn this song, especially the last minutes of it send me to an other universe.
Goosebumps, just goosebumps!
out fucking standing
🤝
I don't know how we do it but Nobuo needs to hear this song so he knows how appreciated and loved his legacy is.
Thanks Periphery.
exactly
