Pete, this is probably one of the best made videos I've seen on UA-cam made by an individual! I'm always criticizing poor videos and telling people to not bother if they have no clue how to make it informative, but this video is probably the best I've seen. Well Done Sir!!!
wheeliepete. 2 quick comments: 1) I agree 100% with your assessment of the HC3R mags, worth every penny. Truly a fabulous product 2) your video without a doubt is one of the best YT video reviews I have seen in several years. Good quality, excellent videography, very direct verbal communicating. Thank you for such a refreshing review. Keep up the good work!
This video is from 2012 - Why have I not seen these mags in 2019? < I bought a 10/22 three weeks ago > and rediscovered the sheer fun of shooting a .22 at age 60. 👍😁
Right? I owned the black synthetic stock carbine with two ruger bx25 mags. Also a ramline 50 rounder. My buddy who committed suicide had gave me it. Almost brand new and I added a bipod on it and polished up the bolt,sear/hammer to,lighten trigger pull, and did the auto bolt release trick,it's so smooth
How the hell did we not know about a beautiful innovation as clever as this AND if we buy we are supporting American small business. Probably just because we haven't noticed, not Google picking what we see. Funny how we see it now, almost like they are pushing for an incident to push gun confiscating. Like maybe Canada right? Confiscating is a weird word
@@jeffreystroman2811 I bought some recently (Nov, 2024) But I can't get them to WORK consistently (see recent comment on this video) ANY and ALL suggestions/help are welcome! Seating those rounds EVADES me! 😞
First, wow you know how to compose and deliver information in a video! Second, if there was EVER a better mousetrap, this is it. I will buy 4. I cannot resist brilliance in design that really delivers. Third, thank god himself I prefer my cz's bolt action single shot. That is the only way my ammo stash is going to survive. Again what a well thought out info dense packed no nonsense style you have. Subscribed of course.
Just ordered the $99 Tac Pac because of your video. Well made video. Not the usual UA-cam debris. Thank you for learning about the product BEFORE you UA-cam it.
Bought the Tac-Pack based off of your fantastic review! After a long wait for shipping (made all the more aggravating since they ship from my home city about 20 minutes away from me), it finally arrived the other day and WOW! So easy to use! Haven't taken it to the range yet but hand cycled a full 25 round mag with zero failures. Can't wait to take it to the range! Thanks again for an awesome review
This is the best video for these mags. I think they are very underrated. People complaining about feeding problems.... ummm its operator error..... i got 4 of these and love my hc3r mags. Just dont put wax covered bullets in them or winchester white box.
I'm an avid fan of the Ruger 10/22 and since the release of the BX25 factory 25 round magazine and Take-Down, I've renewed my interest with the Take-Down as my go to rifle and a number of BX25 Mags. Today I was at a retail center and discovered this magazine. I ignored the price tag, because I am always game once. The quality of the build, ease of loading AND reloading is all very impressive. I am looking forward to putting this magazine to the test. Excellent review!!! Cheers!!!
Thank you for your video. I bought the pac with 2 mags 10 stripper clips, speed loader and case. Was trully aggravated at how i couldn't get the mags to feed properly. That has all changed thanks to you video on how to get the rounds to align properly.
What an excellent review! The first time I saw these mags, I just thought it was a gimmick for another 10-22 HC mag that wouldn't work. Thanks for turning me into a believer! Great work!
Nope, I'm sitting on the ones I have. I talked to the owner of the company last week and they are re-tooling so that all parts will be made in the USA so that's pretty cool.
Dang man that's super cool, I just started shooting my old 10/22 with a tapco composite stock, the gun is 10 years younger then me at 53 for the Ruger I bought it when I was 17 with a folding stock, which I always hated. in 2017 I put the composite stock on too teach my son to shoot. I just bought 2 new BX25 they suck, one refuses to lock into the mag well, one locks in and feeds terrible. Hoping this mag and its super cool features solves the issue. Well done video too.
Just purchased a HC3R. I hope they are as good as everyone says they are. If so I will be buying 6 more. Thank you for the video review. It was very helpful. Thank you.
Hello WP from Canada. I wish to TY for a tremendous review of this product. I bought one today, and a pack of 3 extra stripper clips. They work wonderfully, and I cannot imagine anyone buying a BX--25 after using these products. You've got a new sub, and again TY.
Thanks so much for the video-instructions as the Magazine came with minimal information as to how-to-use it. This fits SO MUCH BETTER than the Ruger BX-25 in my Ruger 10/22 TD. The BX wobbles and rattles, but it does work. The HC3R is a superior magazine. Super easy to load/unload, the stripper clips and the 20xtra round channel are a BIG plus. Glad I got 2 in 1 shipment. I'll certainly buy more. Cheers.
I've been contemplating getting the BX-25, but after seeing this video, I think I'll wait a little while and purchase this one. I have a VERY cheap Eagle 30 round magazine in addition to a single 10 round factory magazine that came with my 10/22. I haven't had any problems with the Eagle, but with its plastic lips something is bound to break at some point. Awesome video. Definitely subscribing after this one.
I just got done building a full custom charger pistol. All aftermarket parts with the exception of the trigger group. All high-end parts such as Kidd, Enoch Industries, Tactical Innovations, Pike arms, and Summit precision. Once everything was all assembled I've had nothing but failure to feed issues. Mainly from the Ruger bx-25 magazines but even a few with the factory 10-round rotary mag. I've been doing all the little tricks that I can hear of for this platform and magazines but nothing has really solved it so far. I believe I have compound issues causing the failures and that the magazine fitment is a lot of the problem but not all of it. I have a few things left to polish and tune other than the magazines. I first tried the GSG drum mag and it fed horribly. I just received my h3 mag set in the mail but haven't had a chance to test it yet. My fingers are crossed that this magazine system helps my feeding issues. So far I have spent about five times as much that I could have bought a factory Ruger charger for and so far it is far less reliable. 😭
Plastic or aluminum trigger group? I'd take the receiver out of the stock, remove the bolt, and then try fitting the mag to see where it is getting hung up. The feed lips can't contact anything until the bolt is closed on them so they shouldn't have anything to do with the mag not fitting. It must be the plunger/mag post interface area. I'll pull the receiver out, remove the bolt, and then you should have visual room to see what is going on in there. Maybe a burr on the magwell casting?
Dan this magazine was designed for ease of use, reloading and reliability. With normal use the ribclip will not fall out of the magazine. It was not intended to be loaded then dropped.
I haven't done any trigger mods to that rifle. I have a target hammer sitting in a box so I may do that soon. In the process of moving to a new larger house and shop so hopefully it won't get lost in the move.
I was about to take mine back to the dealer until I watched your video. I see that I failed to perform the alignment process. If that solves the feed issues that I had, I will buy at least one more, and I will buy one for my friends for Christmas gifts! We all have at least one 10/22.
I had some jamming with my Ruger BX-25 and 10/22. What really helped was cleaning with Hoppes Elite Cleaner/Gun oil (Mpro7) and shooting only plated bullets. Cool video and mag.
I shot about 500 of various 22 ammo and it worked well. Takes some practice, the alignment process is key. I give it a “thumbs up” as well. Great Video
Unfortunately I found the system to be about 1/10th as reliable as shown in the video. The loading is awesome, but FTFs galore in a gun that never misses a beat with any other magazine (butler creeks being the most reliable). Just my experience of course. HC mags was helping me with some of the issues until they discovered I was from Canada, at which time they stopped communicating. I even offered to send them maple syrup. Ah well.
Bummer. I've had great results with these mags in my 10/22's. I did have a buddy with an older 10/22 that had issues with the HC3R, but that rifle was really old and in pretty bad shape. What's the deal with Canada? Are you not supposed to have hi-cap mags or something there?
WheeliePete The Ruger BX-25 is prohibited here because it fits the ruger pistol and is advertised as such. There is a TON of debate about the other "hi cap" 10/22 mags because they also fit the pistol (pistol mags are capped at 10 rounds here, usually rimfire are exempt in rifles). So we use the butler creek, GSG and these mags with some trepidation. I have the newer takedown 10/22... :)
Thanks. I first seen your review on the Ruger BX-25 (excellent review) as I am collecting info for my own 10/22 build. Your rifle has inspired me to build one similar and your reviews are helpful (builds are expensive and I don't like to waste money) keep up the good work. Thanks
They've actually got a speed loader for the stripper clips now along with caps for the stripper clips so you can load a bunch of them up and have them in your pocket and then just put them in as necessary. I'll be doing a review on them in the near future, I've seen both items first-hand and they work great! Buddy of mine did a review on them already... look up highdesertadventurer on UA-cam or HC3R speed Loader and you'll find his video...
I've run mine in 3 different Ruger .22's now and it's fit, although I did have to really push to get it to go into my 77/22 magwell. The fit in my 10/22's has been tight, but it has worn in a bit as far as fit. The company will probably chime in here as I know they monitor the video comments, but if they don't I would shoot them an e-mail. I've talked to them and they are very nice folks. How old is your 10/22? I know there have been minor changes over the years in the castings, etc...
Mine has plastic trigger group. It's been about a week and still no response from the manufacturer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be negative. I'm just excited about these mags and want them to work for me.
Just received one, but it looks like I'm going to have to grind the metal down a little on the fore and aft pivots or whatever they're called. It just won't get all the way into the mag-well. Construction seems good, though; and I'd rather have some material to take off, rather than come up short.
Looks like a great product that is very well engineered. Already owning 4 ruger bx25 mags I can't see myself spending the money on this though. Perhaps if it held 40 shots or something like that plus the extra I would spend money on it. Good video too!
Yep I got me 1 of these but it was the case set up, and it makes loading easy, once you figure it out, but it is easy to load up the loaders, man the case looks great, and everything fits really tight as well, 1 trip is when you loaded up the tray, with your finger at the bottom of the tray push up, that 1 got me, but you will love it!!!! Look for the kit,
I've noticed that there is a LOT of variation between Ruger's rifles that use the rotary box magazine. My 10/22's fit snug, but it's really tight going into my 77/22. I guess it's better to be on the "tight" side of the equation and just have to do a bit of sanding or filing on the nubs, than it is to have a sloppy fit.
Looks like it works great... I just ordered three of them from Shooters Supply... $32.00 each. One for each of my boys and myself.... Thank you for the video.
Now I'm thinkin' I need a couple of these to go with all my TI-25's. Been out of the new 10/22 accessories loop for a couple years, thought I had everything...
First video I have seen of yours, you were on my home page and I saw a 10/22 mag review. Awesome quality content and great info. Will subscribe and like. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Now I just need to contact the maker and see if they have a NJ friendly one
I bought one at a gun show a couple years ago. I found it to be a big pain in the butt. The guy in the video made it look easy, but i found if you didn't do everything just right the rounds would fall over and jam. Just wasn't worth the hassle, so i went back to the factory mags.
You might be able to find one online still, but it's my understanding that they are re-tooling their production right now so that all parts will be produced in the U.S.A. (I like that!) but that they are currently not shipping until production resumes. Maybe HC3R mags will chime in here on a timeline?
Pay attention to how he says to properly seat the rounds! I'd watched the video dozens of times but for some reason didn't notice the whole "finger on the feed lips" thing until after I took it to the range n looked like an idiot lol. Once again, thank you for an amazing video review/tutorial!
I'm not personally familiar with the archangel nomad kit, I just looked at it online though and I see what you're talking about. Looks like they want you to use that conversion mag. You *might* be able to dremel enough clearance to get it to fit up in there, but then you mess up the nomad body...
@WheeliePete what kind of mods did you do to that ruger 1022, i own something similar. Mine is a ruger1022 magnum research .17mach2 modded barrel. I'm looking to convert it back to a 22lr, whoever owned it before me converted it to .17mach2. Its got a similar thumbhole stock which i love. I'm looking for barrel suggestions, i got my eye on the volquartsen bull threaded.
Great video! Thank you! My local gun shop is selling for $20 but I was hesitant to pick one up with other bad experiences from 10/22 magazines. Definitely picking a few up now though!
I got it at a local sporting goods store a few years ago. I think it was around $150 or so? Works great with that gun. It's a Bushnell "Banner" 4-12x40mm
Got two of these babies for $7 a piece at my local Big R. They were ticketed at $39.95 but rung up at $7! Complete steal. Had a relative go pick me up a few more a few hours later.
Great video & rifle, WheeliePete. Had to ask though, any trigger modification's? Seen them tapped to shorten the distance. Example on the Brandon401401 channel, his video is called "10/22 Tactical Rapid Fire" About to purchase one & a few component's to customize, so was wondering if there were any difficulties with the 10/22 trigger mod's.
I've never even wanted a 10/22 before now (okay, fine, I want one of the 10-inch barreled Charger pistols). When he slid the clip onto the stored rounds and then just slammed it back into the mag, I decided I need a Ruger. Alright two Rugers, since I've been pining over the 7-shot, 6" .357Mag. GP100 for a long while now. Such a sexy revolver, and it even outweighs my 1911 by 1/4lb... Giggidy.
As long as the fully loaded magazine doesn't break in a drop then I would consider that a passed drop test. If the back pops off under non-designed use (aka being dropped fully loaded), but the magainze is not broken and still functions afterward then it seems like a pass to me. Now, if dropping is something that happens a lot I think a good solid rubber band would keep it together. I think a retention clip would add unnecessary complication. It's not like we tac-load 10/22 mags on the run...
That's what I did, but you need to be careful just to put it on the threads and not get it into the rotating assembly or it may gum up the pivot of the thumbstud when it needs to turn to lock out.
they sell a kit comes with a case for a full 500 rnds after all the clips and mags are loaded, better price, in Canada I think around $115.00, look for it
i've never seen or heard of this magazine but is pretty cool. i need to find out who sells them & what the going price for them during the recent price increases. thanks for the review.
Perhaps you have found one already, however, if not - Brownells is able to take special orders for the magazine or our new Tactical Pack, and ship to the UK. You just need to call their Special Order line @ 1-800-741-0015, and then they will place an order with us. We are not currently setup in the UK, although we would like to be. Thanks for your interest!
If you have the fit problem I had, file the side of the mag post to make the end a little thinner so that it can slide into the plunger. My mags fit like a glove now.
I bought two of these HC3R mags yesterday. I absolutely love the features of the mag but cannot make it fit in my 10/22. The angles of the mag around the lips are different than the factory mags and the HC3R will not go deep enough into the mag well to lock in. I've tried both the magazines that I bought yesterday and after an hour of trying, I still cannot get it to fit. It look like I would have to file down the mag around the lips to make it fit. Any ideas?
Packaging says they are "Assembled in USA manufactured in China". Which I guess means they are getting the individual parts overseas and then quality control assembly in the US. I'd love to see a fully "Made in the USA" on the back, but with the dead hand of government laying on the back of business large and small, you do what you have to do to get a product to market. Hopefully HCMags, LLC will chime in here on the subject...

I'm not convinced yet. I'd like see some video of the gen 2 in real world testing in a rifle. I use a bx-25 in my 77/22 which is a bolt action. Design looks great though.
The HC3R is a tool you need to learn how to use it properly for consistent functionality. I suggest practicing loading and unloading it and getting those rounds stacked correctly. Once you have the motions down this mag is easy to use and will serve you well along with burning up a lot of ammo in a hurry.
Test was on carpet as well. Someone needs to market a clip that snaps onto the lower portion of this mag that locks out any ability for the "stripper clip" to move downward even in the slightest. This mag has a lot of potential if the back did not fall off so easily. I own one....It will be my last one....Until some type of lockout clip is designed.

I recommend the tactical pack, you get a mag, 5 extra speed loader trays and a box that holds 100 rounds you can feed the speed loader trays from.
Excellent review. I guess I'll be buying some of these when I buy my Ruger 10/22 model.
good, dont buy bx 25 tho its poor quality
Yep I got me 1 of these but it was the case set up, and it makes loading easy, once you figure it out, but it is easy to load up the loaders, man the case looks great, and everything fits really tight as well, 1 trip is when you loaded up the tray, with your finger at the bottom of the tray push up, that 1 got me, but you will love it!!!! Look for the kit,
That thing is rad. Thanks for the review. Don't think we get to play with cool stuff like that here in kalifornia.
Why am I just seeing this Magazine. Now I have to have one. Great Video
Awesome review, I wish everybody took the time and effort you do! Thx. This is the best mag for the 10/22 hands down!
If anyone is having problems with the HC3R in any country we will be happy to assist.
SomersetBAR please contact us.
HC Mags What do I have to do in order to get you guys to produce a .22 WMR version for my 10/22 Magnum?
I can't even find where to buy this mag
I’m having a problem......
I can’t find one of these!
Now I'm thinkin' I need a couple of these to go with all my TI-25's. Been out of the new 10/22 accessories loop for a couple years, thought I had everything...
Shout out Sean ranklin
First video I have seen of yours, you were on my home page and I saw a 10/22 mag review. Awesome quality content and great info. Will subscribe and like. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Now I just need to contact the maker and see if they have a NJ friendly one
great video! I got the "HCMags Tactical Pack" and can't wait to use it.
Will fit Ruger 10/22 and any Ruger variants that take the rotary 10/22 style magazine.
Great vid and BEAUTIFUL RIFLE. How long is your barrel???
great review guy. im glad to see a high capacity mag. that has some extra features. and isnt prone to failure as much as others on the market.
WheeliePete, where did you buy your scope and how much? I want to get one. I like your review on this mag. I bought one already. Thanks!
I wanted to see you add the extra 20 rounds in the field.6:50. Otherwise very informative.
These have worked good for me, but the loading procedure is KEY. If you don't do the loading procedure right you'll have problems.
Example on the Brandon401401 channel, his video is called "10/22 Tactical Rapid Fire"
About to purchase one & a few component's to customize, so was wondering if there were any difficulties with the 10/22 trigger mod's.
Nice bit of kit.Got to get one of these. Are they sold by bass pro.?
That's what I did, but you need to be careful just to put it on the threads and not get it into the rotating assembly or it may gum up the pivot of the thumbstud when it needs to turn to lock out.
they sell a kit comes with a case for a full 500 rnds after all the clips and mags are loaded, better price, in Canada I think around $115.00, look for it
i've never seen or heard of this magazine but is pretty cool. i need to find out who sells them & what the going price for them during the recent price increases. thanks for the review.
A very good, professional review with a direct to point information about the product.
That I appreciate allot, thank you from Norway, subscribed :)
Great video - you explained it perfectly and edited it well. Nice Job!
top notch video work and clear precise commentary. Off to go order a couple of these mags. Thanks
Nice review, thank you. Will have a look see if anyone in the UK supply.
This is an awesome magazine for the 10/22's. I will be looking into this magazine. Excellent video and info. Thanks
"It's not a clip, it's a magazine!"
"ORLY?"
**confused screaming**
Good video, I like the rapid load feature.
I love to own one of Ruger SR-22 with HC3R 45 Round stainless steel magazine.
Any ideas?
If you have a Gen! mag please give us a call we have a GENII conversion kit to bring your mag up to current specs.
I love my H3CRs. Never a jamb, and holds more than 40 rounds total.
Yes it is available in Canada

Wow that was very in depth and a great review. Liked and subscribed
I'm not convinced yet. I'd like see some video of the gen 2 in real world testing in a rifle. I use a bx-25 in my 77/22 which is a bolt action. Design looks great though.
What an interesting design! I'm going to look into getting one right now!
I would have tried it on my friend's 10/22, but it was in the safe and he wasn't around. Fits fine now.
I just found one of these in a retail store in a remote part of my neck of the woods. I guess I should buy a lottery ticket today as well.
The HC3R is a tool you need to learn how to use it properly for consistent functionality.
I suggest practicing loading and unloading it and getting those rounds stacked correctly.
Once you have the motions down this mag is easy to use and will serve you well along with burning up a lot of ammo in a hurry.
What a nicely done review! Thank you very much.
That is insanely ingenious!
Dan, Thanks for the feedback I will work that into the next stripper clip design
Wait a minute!?
Did Clip and Mag had a baby?
I wonder how many people don't understand your joke... Nicely done.
malip? clag? clagazine?
Test was on carpet as well. Someone needs to market a clip that snaps onto the lower portion of this mag that locks out any ability for the "stripper clip" to move downward even in the slightest. This mag has a lot of potential if the back did not fall off so easily. I own one....It will be my last one....Until some type of lockout clip is designed.
Will it work with a Archangel aa556 kit? Looks like the thumb screw will hit the mag well.
I just got one today I will let you know how it works for me.
Thank you this is so simple how every video should be!!!
I saw them on the distributor link from the hcmag site. The MSRP listed on that site was $54.95. Where are you seeing them for $33?
