I could have the slide my Gen 3 glock 19 milled for an optic and install an apex trigger or for about the same money just get a rxm that is optic cut, has a better trigger and is also modular. There's also an issue with people installing optics without accounting for screw length, and this was resulting in the slide hanging up when trying to go into battery. So it would be helpful if you mentioned the review, because from what I have seen, the gun doesn't care about Glock mags or Pmags.

Didn’t even use the Pmags but will check mine to see if any show any issues especially with the 20 or so mags that didn’t get used but the 20 I did use had no issues. Will also compare reloading normally and gently as you showed to see if that shows any difference.

Very interesting. It's funny the very first thing I did with the gin as soon as I got home. Is slap an extended gen 3 slide lock on it, and I haven't had any issues with glock mags. Maybe I accidentally found a fix. The angle of the metal leaf that hits the follower does appear to be mildly different than the one that comes stock on the rxm.

Great video man. One question I’m getting, is your ejection pin supposed to be bent like that? I just picked up my rxm and right away I noticed my ejector pin is bent to the right like yours. . . Every pistol I have they’re straight. . . Is this a normal thing with rxm/glock
Probably on a 2.0 version if enough complaints come in. The fact there are production mags that work fine and most Glock mags are probably fine, I doubt it's a priority.
Your very good video adds to my concern and confusion. I would like to purchase the Ruger RXM to companion with a Kel-Tec sub2000 and a slew of Glock 19 magazines that I own. I interpret the Ruger RXM as having malfunction problems when running the Glock mags and wonder if modifying the Glock mags may result in malfunctions with the sub2000? The whole idea sound like a mess. The bottom line is that I don't like the Glocks that much and had hoped the Ruger would be more comfortable to my elderly hands. Any new thoughts and experiences from you and/or the commenters?
The only issue this causes is the slide lock/release dropping when loading into an open slide. I have not had or seen feeding issues put of Glock mags. The Ruger RXM is nice and I think most Glock mags will be fine. But if you check everything with the info I provided you'll know why and what you can do.
This is helpful. Considering Ruger has made other firearms to work with Glock mags, this collaboration should have been no different. That being said, how do your modified Glock mags work in your Glock (made by Glock)?
Subbed, and nice video. Please read my current experience. My RXM has been nearly 100% through 620 rounds. However, with the included PMAGs and a 3rd PMAG I bought same day, I'm having the last round of JHP type ammunition nose dive into the feed ramp. It can be replicated through non-live fire hand cycling, which I normally don't do or trust; live fire testing is everything. I switched to Gen 5 Glock 19 mags for the 2nd range trip of 320 rounds, and zero malfunctions. I'll now be exclusively running Gen 5 G19 mags, until we sort the PMAG issue out. I think Magpul needs to update their follower, because I noted a difference in their followers from the extended 21 and 27 round PMAG followers to the 15 round PMAG followers. I'd ask that you look closely at a Glock follower and compare it to the PMAG follower. It doesn't have that inclined slope all the way to the front of the follower like Glock mags do. I'm surprised Magpul didn't basically directly copy the follower. I'm in contact with both Magpul and Ruger on the issue, but the firearm itself is not the issue, at least in my case. Sounds like I'm coping, but it runs beautifully with Glock mags, and I did test one of the Gen 3 mags (they're actually Gen 4 mags if they have the mag catch notch on both sides and number 7 follower) and it also ran 100% with both ball and JHP ammo. This failure with PMAGs has occurred with different types of JHP ammo, too. It's 100% with ball ammo and PMAGs. I will look at what you're showing here, and see if my Glock mags kind of engage the slide stop, as you've demonstrated here. Average marksman had an issues that presented just like this, and I think you've correctly ID'd the issue. It's a tolerance stack issue, between the mags, and the parts on the RXM; in this case, the slide stop. Nice video, and again, I subbed up. Your style and mine are very similar. We will tinker, if needed, to get stuff running smoothly when we identify a problem.
If you have spare G19s or spare cash you can try swapping the barrel to try isolate the issue to the feed ramp. I’ve noticed some variability among the different clones resulting in odd feeding issues. Polishing the ramp or simply getting Glock barrels seem to be the most reliable across the board for me. FWIW the RXM has been my favorite clone so far and mine doesn’t have the issue you described. My only issue has been the grip grabbing lint, dirt, and anything that touches it lol.
@@NICKELGHANDI Fair enough. I'm in touch with both Ruger and Magpul and working with them on the issues. I asked Ruger just yesterday if they'd perhaps send me a new barrel to test. The PMAGs aren't performing any better, but I believe it's Magpul's followers. I was about to polish the feedramp, yesterday, but I wanna see what Ruger's engineer says. I won't buy parts for a gun that should just work. I surmise that others are having this issue, too, but it's going underreported. Many just shoot ball ammo, especially through their PMAGs treating them as Range only. I sent detailed photos of the barrel and feedramp to Ruger with my request. It looks perfectly fine, but they're the experts. I know the tech I emailed, and he's a solid guy who has been with Ruger for a long time. He knows his stuff. If he says that barrel shouldn't be the problem, then that's that. If he sends a new barrel and requests further testing, I'll absolutely oblige. I love the gun, too. Again, 100% reliability with Glock mags, across all ammo types. PMAGs, allllmost 100%, but not quite. I understand failures are a part of shooting, but this day in age, a smooth running gun is kind of expected.

I noticed this with my Gen 5 mags a few days ago. Was able to induce slide lock putting pressure on the baseplate when i was shooting mine for the first time today. That said the mag worked flawlessly otherwise. I'm thinking i might file that ear a bit rather than modify mags.
Magpul P mags were not made for the RXM, they were made for Glocks. RXM was made to use P mags. This is an issue with tolerance stacking, and variations between manufacturers. At least now I have a use for my P mags.
I put 500 rounds though my RXM this weekend with Magpul and Glock mags and I haven’t had any malfunctions yet. I shoot more accurately with the RXM compared to my Glock 19- I think it’s because of the lighter trigger.
I disagree with your opinion that this isn't Ruger's problem to fix. If they said it was designed to work with the provided GL9 mags only, sure, and then anything else that works is a bonus. They didn't. Instead they say, "the RXM is designed to use 9mm magazines compatible with compact or larger double-stack Glock pistols, including Magpul GL9 magazines." Make a claim like that, you need to follow through. Fantastic information in your video. I appreciate your detailed analysis and the offered solution.
Whether it works or not using anything that is not made for ur firearm is dangerous, it may work while playing around at the range but it could be a major issue if it fails when u need it most
Glock mags work just fine. They feed well and lock back just fine. I took a mixture of Glock mags , and P mags. 15 Glock mags of different ages and 7 p-mags. I had zero failures. I like mine better than my Glocks.
Seems to me that a narrower slide catch (the portion that actually interfaces with the magazine follower) would solve the issue. How large is the stock RXM one compared to an oem Glock?
Ok, if you're reloading, your slide is already open, and the slide lock is already being used, so how would this be an issue on a loaded mag Furthermore most people would look at this because they can use existing glock mags so unfortunately if it's well It's potentially a Problem then it doesn't need to be addressed because that's why people would buy these Because they have an abundance of oem mags because they work and their fairly affordable
Glock simply has made the best magazines for 30+ yrs, that is why so many people copy them. If a Glock mag doesn't work in this Ruger pistol.....DO NOT alter a Gmag, use magpul instead.....
When you first had the Ruger RMX magazine in the frame the round appeared to be slightly canted, not so with the Glock magazine or is my eyes fooling me?
@8skep1productions Did you talk to the people who designed the RXM? Shadow Systems also ships their guns with Pmags, but their guns were not designed around the Pmag, they were designed around being a Glock clone that can take Glock mags. So until I hear it from Ruger that the Gluger was not meant to be used with Glock mags, I'll just take the things mentioned in the video as slight oversights that aren't surprising for an early production pistol. That being said, the attention to detail is appreciated, and I'm sure that your information will prove helpful for people who run into hiccups with their RXM's.
This is a modular gun so different rules apply-----the "frame" you keep calling is no longer that---its a grip-----the frame is actually the metal outlining piece of the fire control insert----frame designates the actual firearm part----the grip on modular guns is not the firearm----welcome to modular guns.
I have more information about the slide lock I plan to make another video. But to answer your question a stock OEM Glock slide lock is the same as what Ruger provides

Much appreciated. i haven't ran into that issue with my glock mags. but i will definitely use my pmags more. great content....
Glad this helped. It's an easy fix if you run into any problems
Great info!
I'm glad my local stores didn't have one of these because I was going to buy one but nobody had one.
I'm extremely happy that didn't pan out 👌
You should buy one
8,400 round test on it already and no malfunctions
Whether it works or not using anything that is not made for ur firearm is dangerous, it may work while playing around at the range but it could be a major issue if it fails when u need it most
Glock mags work just fine. They feed well and lock back just fine.
I took a mixture of Glock mags , and P mags. 15 Glock mags of different ages and 7 p-mags. I had zero failures. I like mine better than my Glocks.
I said in the video most Glock mags will likely be fine....this info is for the ones that aren't
Center of the universe
Great video!!!
I thought I saw in the press release that the RXM would accept Magpul or Gen 3 Glock OEM mags?
You did see correctly but not every mag is the same. Some don't have issues
@ thanks for confirming I wasn’t nuts. Well…
Seems gen5 glock mags fit into gen3 pistols no problem
Does your original Ruger magazine rock a lot inside the RXM?
Seems to me that a narrower slide catch (the portion that actually interfaces with the magazine follower) would solve the issue. How large is the stock RXM one compared to an oem Glock?
See this video for more info ua-cam.com/video/wqKd4M5Lbas/v-deo.htmlsi=Br1nvxpE2aFGmlEA
Thank you so much.
Imagine how perfect the rxm would be if it used metal sig mags
@@morocomole4567 Glock mags are metal
Glock simply has made the best magazines for 30+ yrs, that is why so many people copy them. If a Glock mag doesn't work in this Ruger pistol.....DO NOT alter a Gmag, use magpul instead.....
I said that more than once in the video.
I chose to modify Glock mags because I can
No problems out of mine
do you need to make the same adjustments for the gen5 mags?
@@scottjustinvest you don't need to modify any Glock mag, it's if you want to. If you choose to yes gen 5 are subject to the possible issue
I'd be more tempted to remove the slide lock all together. Or just stick to pmags.
When you first had the Ruger RMX magazine in the frame the round appeared to be slightly canted, not so with the Glock magazine or is my eyes fooling me?
I did not notice a difference between them.
The P-mag was not designed for the RXM. It was designed for the Glock 19.
That's not what I said....but the RXM was built around using PMags
@8skep1productions Did you talk to the people who designed the RXM? Shadow Systems also ships their guns with Pmags, but their guns were not designed around the Pmag, they were designed around being a Glock clone that can take Glock mags. So until I hear it from Ruger that the Gluger was not meant to be used with Glock mags, I'll just take the things mentioned in the video as slight oversights that aren't surprising for an early production pistol.
That being said, the attention to detail is appreciated, and I'm sure that your information will prove helpful for people who run into hiccups with their RXM's.
Just use the ruger mags or gen 1,2,3 mags. Gen 5 is different
Not always true....all need to be tested to look for potential problems
This is a modular gun so different rules apply-----the "frame" you keep calling is no longer that---its a grip-----the frame is actually the metal outlining piece of the fire control insert----frame designates the actual firearm part----the grip on modular guns is not the firearm----welcome to modular guns.
Ok I'm good with all that
So what u tryna say is Glock mags will damage the gun in time I’m confused?
@@A1ace210 I didn't say that at all...not sure how you got that out of the video.
Wonder if changing the slide release lever to a Glock OEM would work or maybe they are not compatible with the Ruger.
I have more information about the slide lock I plan to make another video. But to answer your question a stock OEM Glock slide lock is the same as what Ruger provides
@ so the dimensions of the slide release tab that was pushed up by the follower is the same / similar dimensions?
@@Dietzeeeeethe ear of the slide lock/release can catch on the slope of the Glock magazine. It can also catch underneath the ear on the magazine housing. This is why I pointed out both areas to watch for
@@8skep1productions will be interesting to see if they tweak the design or if you just need to slightly mod all your Glock mags. I didn’t have to mod my Glock mags for the PSA dagger so we will see if Ruger makes any amendments to the design over the next year
@@Dietzeeeeethere might be unseen issues in your PSA dagger and Glock mags. Maybe the mags you have up to this point haven't caused a problem and maybe you never have a problem. But you might
So gen5 mags are better?😊
No not really you need to check those just as much as any other Glock magazine
So Ruger and Magpul developed a way to sell more crappy Magpul P-mags? Don't get offended. I'm just joking!
Lol yes kinda...but certainly not what they wanted. Glock mag usage is definitely a benefit for them
Steve lol I like your humor.
Magpul Glock mags suck giant donkey bollucks. Just get factory glock mags for carry and reserve the Pmags for training. You'll get plenty of jam clearing practice.
Hey they aren’t Promags. 😂 could be worse
Shouldn't be any design differences in a clone using expired patents. At least for the mags.
Can you use g3 mags on the rxm ?
The p mags weren’t originally made to work in a ruger they were made to work in a Glock. Then ruger made a Glock and put magpuls Glock mags in it
Does anyone know if you can swap out the ejector for a Glock 23 ejector? The reason I ask is because of the modular aspect of the fire control group.
So then, keep my Glock 19, skip the Ruger. Got it...
“Dimensionally…”
The P Mag for the Ruger RXM is the same mag for the Glock 19. There is no difference.
Do it use glock mags? Yes...almost.
Had you used a live round there would’ve been nothing wrong with it since the slide was separated from the frame. But some incompetent fool would’ve still said you were being unsafe lol
True.... however I still want to avoid the primer strike from any other parts or tools while working with it
I like dremels but they are widely over used, by amatures.
Question??? Is Everyone that bought this pistol ok with running aftermarket Glock magazines??? I don’t hear Everyone screaming stick with the OEM mags that came with the firearm now... Nobody is recommending Use the magpul GL9 mags over Glock mags, but let this be a Glock pistol and everyone was using Pmags, the internet would go crazy over..
None issue
A Ruger Glock clone that has problems with Glock OEM magazines LOL!!! Perfection
Glock has plenty of problems too.
I know, why would a company who perfected a platform still use trash Block mags.....
Just get a real Glock 18 and don’t worry about it. Ruger handguns are and always have been trash
I can't afford a Glock 18 machine pistol. They're a bit pricey, plus the tax stamp.
umm they only say that use gen 3 mags only , always gotta be hater out there ,
Sure but who is going to do that? Come on now you know how people are they want all Glock mags to work.
Sounds like your a Magpul salesman
So the Magpul salesman would suggest how to modify Glock mags? You didn't think this comment through very well
Lol I wouldn't buy even if you couldn't get a glock now the flu is bad ass and glock should take some notes there.
So no issue with the Gen 5 mags?
Gen 5 mags can cause the problem you want to test and confirm
Yeeeaaah... I'll just stick to my factory Glock lol...
That's fine too
just buy a glock lmfaooo literally buying a fake glock...
Glock is way behind at this point
Whenever you see a video where the guy says to file this down, sand this a little...uh, NO WAY. Just use your PMAGS.
I actually said that a couple times in the video. But regardless people will want their Glock mags to work
Just get a real Glock 19 and don’t worry about it. Ruger handguns are and always have been trash
I had a P90 and it handled every .45 ACP bullet weight without a problem. My father's P89 did the same with 9mm.
