Probably one of the purest gigs ever. Muddy Waters and the Stones in the smallest of small clubs. Perfect.
Set up
Amazing.
Love my STONES!
And Muddy! Susie VanNess
Perfect!!!
British bands idolised soul music , it's why we have the stones and beatles and others , the stones are giving their idols the frontage they deserve they are playing second fiddle here, respect.
Everyone's talking about the Stones, but let's hear it for Muddy's Band. They sound great.
Harmonica player sounds like a whole horn section!!! Wow!!!
Harmonica player on point
Unbelievable I think Keith was to smashed to really impress the man haha
Mojo Buford/harp, John Primer, Rick Kreher/guitars, Luvie Lee/piano, Ernest Johnson/bass , Ray Allison/drums. Muddy’s last touring band. All of Water’s bands were excellent musicians, many legends in their own right.
muddy's band would blister the stones any day
Unreal. Muddy Waters call their name, and one by one The Rolling Stones jump to attention and come running. That’s power and respect.
The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song. Muddy Waters was one of their idols. There were probably a few hundred people at this gig...... but thousands will tell you they were there.
Harmonica man killing the game
Oh yes he did
Yes Mojo Buford something else again😊
thanks for thanks for naming that man. Us kids don’t know all these legends
Harmonica nails it talented man
“Everybody starts by imitating their heroes. For me it was Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters.”

Seeing Keith, Ronnie and Mick jamming with Muddy Watters is one of the greatest sights in the world this century~!!!! Rip Muddy and John lee Hooker and Charlie Watts~!!!!!
Actually last century in 1981. With that said, no doubt a landmark and historic moment in music history. And thankfully this video clips exists so that future generations can see this.
Right you are~!! @@americangiant1003
@@americangiant1003 It's clearly staged/scripted - the Rolling Stones just happen to rock up, while there just happens to be a second camera crew and guitars ready to go.

Can you imagine being in the club that night? Epic!!!!
Yeah, not seeing Muddy is one of my great regrets!!!

The blues hi
I love Stones, and the blues, c'est rock and roll
I have been there numerous times in my life time
Thank God for the internet , so everyone can enjoy these great moments......
I'm loving all these clips, spent my life loving this music now I get to see it 😍😘😍¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You got that right. Nothing today can even touch this...
Turn your lamp down low. ..
Correct
Truth
This jam session is from 1981 recorded in Chicago. Muddy Waters was 68 by this time, and had been playing the guitar since around 1928. He was born in 1913. Mick Jagger was only 38 at this time. Sadly, Muddy Waters died just two years after this collaboration. 🙏
Thanks for that small History Lesson of one of the greats that started it all=Muddy Watters~!!
Very interesing
❤Muddy waters reminds me of 1st...Johnson nothing beats thier blues true blue blues❤
The rolling Stones have the real muddy water blues! I just bet you Paul Rodgers Love's this video! There ain't nothing like the muddy water blues!❤❤❤

Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones are legends. But, the harmonica player is fantastic.
Agree
That voice is pure blues and rock n roll... Gravel mixed with whiskey, Metal with rolling waves of smoke and water... Legendary. Rest in Peace Muddy
Muddy's face expression was gold. He was cool, neither impressed or upset, pro 100%
❤I'm your 100 like 😅
It was like:"Ah, some young guys comin' and havin' a good time. That's cool." Twelve bars later:"Oh, that's The Stones. Well, let's have some fun."

I love Keith's quote saying Muddy Waters called the Stones his 'little white babies'!! Perfect ❤️
Cold as Ice. For damn sure.
Don't forget Muddy's Band!! JOHN PRIMER (guitar), MOJO BUFORD(harp), KILLER RAY ALLISON (drums), LOVEY LEE (piano), CALVIN FUZZ JONES (bass) and RICK KREHER (guitar)!!!

The Rolling Stones simply found the blues as kids from vinyl records, loved it & were heavily influenced by it. They helped open America's eyes to a whole new world of music in their own backyard, nice one boys! 👌🇬🇧👏
The Stones NAMED themselves after a Muddy Waters tune. Absolutely incredible.
Yes they did,Perfect!
Yeah, all that respect, but the Black musicians who were the originators never made diddly compared to the White musicians. Rock and Roll was just grand theft of the Blues. Those Black singers and musicians were ripped off royally.
As and sons together 👌🏽😎👍🏽
@@jimrandolph1430 Hang on now. Rock, and Rock N’ Roll are two different things. Rock N’ Roll WAS black music. It didn’t steal anything from them, it was theirs. Rock N’ Roll is primarily a mix of rhythm and blues, and country. It’s what led to the creation of Rock, which is an entirely different genre, basically everything 60’s and up. The stealing part in Rock history’s is Elvis taking black Rock N Roll music and popularizing it to the general public (whites) and making all the money/fame off black musicians work. As well as Led Zeppelin straight up plagiarizing some black musicians’ music in the 60’s-70’s. The majorly influential bands that created rock like the Beatles, Stones, and Who all gave shout outs and recognition to the black artists who’s music they were covering. They didn’t steal anything. Being influenced by another’s work is not stealing and if anything should only be seen as a compliment.
@@jimrandolph1430 Ripped off by American record companies, not by the Stones.
What a way to be honored, when Muddy Waters allows you on stage to play and sing with him! :-)
you're right, and Muddy will be always the greater, the cooler artist. Compared to him Mick is just a naughty school boy. no personality, just fake and cold smoke.
Sure, he's going to let someone on stage with him if it's the lead singer of an iconic band.
@@andreasheise894 Mick Jagger has no personality?. Heard it all now. You don’t lead one of the greatest rock bands for decades without having something about you. Not a Stones fan but credit where it’s due. Muddy waters was a class act and knew class when he heard it.
@@alanwilliamson3188 Hi Alan, don´t take it on me. please read the commt above "What a way to be honored, when Muddy Waters allows you on stage to play and sing with him!". I´m an old man and I n e v e r hat it on rolling St. But here the personality of Jagger in comparison with muddy is comparing a pebble (immature) with a mountain. Just look the almost wisdome of Muddy and look the cheeky queeky teenager Mick. 2 different world of understanding music - yes , but 2 different characters on the same scale of human character and maturity. And here Jagger is definitely a looser. He is vulgar in his beeing a winner (?)
@@andreasheise894 I`m 72 y.o.a. . I like Muddy Waters but don`t be trashin` Mick. I`ve always liked the Stones. I`m from Milwaukee,Wi. and my favorite Rock `n Roll Band is the Stones! Yes I noticed that too but Mick delivered as usual~!!
When keith gets called up it’s hilarious “what about keith?!” And then he just appears on stage smoke in mouth hand out demanding his telecaster 😂

Well we're ALL lucky that with the internet and things like the Apple store we can hear and see a lot of the great music from the past. I remember when a buddy of mine who was really into Reggae back in the early 80's had to order records from New York City out of a catalog. Took a few weeks to get it delivered.

+ffjsb wow, i think it was really great to see him live. I am a girl born in the 60ties and i love the old Music.
I wish I had gone to more concerts when the musicians were in their prime, and you didn't have to sell your first born to get a ticket...
It's just as good now, as it was the last time I watched and listened to this song 7 years ago.
It's Timeless. I'm 66 and have seen the Rolling Stones 10 times and Keith with the X-Pensive Winos 5 times. I am a Rolling Stones afficianado. In my opinion, they are The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the History of Music. Muddy Waters was one of their guys, that they learned from, and always respected. Blues based Rock & Roll shall never die ! This video shows you how much respect Mick & Keith had for Muddy Waters, and vice versa. Whoooooooo !!!!

Merci beaucoup
I've seen muddy a few times sadly not the stones BUT I think Keith is the original punk love him
Real deal
I love the version with howlin wolf better with rolling stones, wolf is force to be recon with.
BTW, the Rolling Stones band took their name from a Muddy Waters' song of the same title, released in 1950. In Muddy Waters' prime, he electrified the blues, literally & figuratively. You could call him and his ever present guitar the team that launched a thousand bands. Muddy Waters' playing was imaginative and unbridled, his singing, unrivaled. He has inspired many legends and Hall Of Famers like the Rolling Stones & Eric Clapton, to take up the blues' soulful influence & rock's penetrating legacy.
This is blues as it is meant to be!❤️ The ultimate top in swinging, improvisation, jamming, passion and real love for music!! Makes me feel young(er) again😊

what the hell are you rambling on about?
Fantastic video! This brings back wonderful memories for me. I saw Muddy in a small club back in 1973. I sat right in front of the stage just like this video, only feet away from the great man. It was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life and I will never forget it. To see and hear Muddy Waters up close, to experience his extraordinary charisma and amazing talent, to feel the power of the blues being played by one of its greatest legends----- I feel a reverence no different than the Stones. All credit to the Stones for acknowledging and paying genuine respect and homage to Muddy. They broke the mold when Muddy was born, and there will never be another like him again.
Muddy had a huge influence. So many guys that saw Muddy were inspired to play Blues!!! The Mnt Rushmore of Delta Blues would have Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Elmore James.//////to I just re read my post and am somewhat dumbfounded that I forgot Charlie Patton. Patton was really the guy that got it going, I believe.
Props to you, sweetheart. Dis you ever hear sonny terry and brownie McGee?

When he saw Muddy Waters play, Billy Gibbons replied, “how how have mercy”.
Rock n Roll - made by the existence of two cultures living together, with gospel music turning to blues like this, and Scottish/Irish folk music in the US coming together and instruments being used like they never had been previously.
Put this in perspective for those who may not fully appreciate the impact of Muddy Waters. Arguably the greatest Rock band of all time, braved the hassles of entering a small club which undoubtedly held many rabid fans, to listen and then play with one of their all time greatest influences. This is an amazing video.
