What you have to love about The Stones is that it started with their pure love of music, and especially the blues. When they got to America they couldn't believe that all the great Bluesmen were almost completely disregarded, and to give them their dues, they helped to re-establish their reputation in the eyes of the public there.

I do agree. There's "white boy blues" and its mostly awful but these guys were the first in class generation of European white musicians who took their reference directly from the masters (who were still alive). A "real" bluesman like Gallagher or Green or Clapton .. they took it and moved it on for a new generation and they did make it fresh again. You just don't really see that in modern revisions. Its either a homage or a cover of something the white boys did. Its rarely if ever from European Caucasians either. You almost feel like black folks just moved on from it for obvious reasons and created new things (Hip Hop, Funk, Soul etc etc etc etc) but whenever I revisit it personally I can't help but lament what has been forgotten.
i love how mick jagger just lets the music flow through him and doesn't care how it comes out. That's what the blues is to me, pure honest emotion. In this case, that emotion is cocaine
We say this but if somebody like Justin Bieber was to do this today? He'd be destroyed by social media. And let's be real here, Mick was high as a kite and even the rhythm section was smiling at his antics. Still a great performance.
I got dressed to go to the checkerboard lounge that night, no knowing the Stones would show up. I got to tired and went to bed. This is a gig I am very sorry to have missed. Here is what I just found online. "The club opened in 1972, with Buddy Guy as its first act, and on November 22, 1981, it hosted its most famous night when Muddy Waters and his band were joined by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Ian Stewart from the Rolling Stones, along with Buddy Guy, Blues harmonica legend Junior Wells, and guitarist Lefty Dizz for a night of pure blues."

A gracious man. Most of the legendary bluesmen were appreciative to the younger musicians who kept them going, and, in some cases, brought them back from complete obscurity. Mud died a couple of years later.
You can see right here that at these moment its not about fame, money( i mean look at the size of the crowd) or any any of that shit . these is just for the pure love unadulterated passion of the blues.
Imagine showing up at the Checkerboard Lounge for a night out, and being treated to music from Muddy Waters, with a cameo appearance by the Rolling Stones. Priceless!

Incredible talent by The Roling Stones and especially Muddy Waters. Look at that smile. A kid in a candystore with unlimmited amount of pennies. 🙂
I really love this show when muddy called everyone’s name and invited them to play this blues music together, it’s not like a concert anymore but a party of blues.
Muddy Waters, a man so confident, a man who is da man so bad that he can call Mick Jagger up on stage next to him and still dominate. NOW that is the definition of , da man
The Stones are every single bit as real as Muddy Waters. Each are the originators in what they do and they both do it magnificently. It's the father with his children and sometimes the children add something else and new to what the father does while remaining true to the original. Respect all around.
I think Muddy was very grateful for the exposure that bands like the stones brought to his music. He got some very well deserved record sales after the British bands started playing his stuff. This is an amazing video.
I never heard of muddy waters before I watched these. Wow! I never really watched jagger as a kid. ("Could make a dead man cum" turned me off as a kid that had to deal with sick old f's bothering me.) But this incredible.
I don't know why this (and the other Chequerboard Lounge) vids, don't have more likes and views. This is more than pure gold from the Blues archives. Keep going back to these over and over again.
Muddy never leaves any doubt that this is his turf, and these young fellows are just guests. Mick and Keith must have been pinching themselves. This is the man whose records they used to trade when they were penniless teenagers in London. They named their band after one of Muddy's songs. What a night!

I love this performance--a lot of young Brits in the 1950s (like the Beatles & Stones) were influenced by American rock'n'roll & blues music, but it's a shame that the blues artists they idolized didn't make as much money singing their songs as did the Stones.
