  • Plumbers Call out to a Saniflo issue at a local property that do that maintince on, usually I steer well clear of opening these up but this time I had to try and sort an issue otherwise it was a replacement Saniflo unit needed.
Also i get to catch up on a few little jobs that need my attention, a waste pipe issue into a soil stack and a syphon change on a high level cistern

Way to hang in there brother, real world plumbing for sure. Retired Plumbing Contractor (32 yrs.) mostly new construction, but have done a bit of this sort of work. I appreciate this vid because although I have installed a few of these units, I have never had to service one. I am going to put one in our addition and I want to be sure I'm up to speed on servicing them.
thanks for your video, gives me a bit more confidence when the time comes.

Every year we were changing Saniflows at student lets rather than fix them. In the end we just had the letting agency put of signs of what can go in and can't. No pads, no tampons, wet wipes/butt wipes, condoms etc etc otherwise you're subject to the cost of the engineer replacing the unit. Bloody hate them and I'm glad our work no longer has many Saniflow calls. Good on you for tackling it, despite the mess and smell it's actually one of the single biggest health hazards to a plumber.

Took mine apart today due to continual running after flushing. Bought the kit with the diaphragm and the switch as thought if I’m in there, may as well fit them! Turns out is was full of lime scale and quite clean considering 15 years of continuous use. Cracking, simple piece of kit for what it does £20 for the kit and it will last for a few more years yet 👍

  • @normanboyes4983

That brought back some pleasant memories (not!). About 20 years ago I rented a Gite in the Vendee - second day macerator making a helluva noise and toilet backing up. Owner not contactable! On holiday no tools and the macerator lid is held on with Torx fastenings. So one hour drive to DIY store to get tools and then a pleasant three hours on a very hot afternoon turd burgling fighting back the chundering. Cause - my missus had put nappy liners down there and they were bar taught around the macerator. Great start to the holiday.🤦‍♂️
On a separate not the plumber who installed that lot needs shooting. If he had stood the macerator on a platform with a couple of battens supporting on the floor - then all the plumbing could have been run underneath the Saniflo.🙄

I am guessing either the start winding or a blown capacitor. Have you any history on which it might be. Will it more likely be the cap? They are cheap, a motor will be a fortune. I lifted the main hole on the drive & it was full to the brim with shitty water. It’s a tampon or sanitary towel in the Saniflow,
we have one in our house, which I’ve had to open up a couple of times due to idiot visitors . It’s 15 years old and still going strong but it’s essential that any visitors are told that only toilet paper can go down it, no wet wipes , no tampons, no earbuds, baby wipes. I suggest the B&B owner makes a sign to stick on the toilet and even a print label sign on the flusher.

    I hear you gag at 15:04! 🤮
Toilet macerators can break down quicker in hard water areas. In such cases, the macerators are best regularly descaled with the manufacturer's descaler once every few months.

That's useful to know, as a macerator (although connected to a WC as well as a basin) tend only to deal with water (perhaps one exception per year) but has jammed after a few months of no use.
Not too worried about opening it as there should be nothing grim inside - BUT couldn't work out why it has siezed - now wondering if it might be limescale.
Tempted now to vacuum the water out and then run some some descaler in. Perhaps a quids worth of Aldi vinegar? Nice to avoid dissasembly if I can just as it mean moving the pan out of the way to get to the blades (different layour to the one shown in the vid I think)

Saniflow and similar - usual blockage is fibrous. Idiots put wet wipes or pads down them. I made a ground floor bathroom for my mom. Carers 3 times flushed wipes and all 3 times they shred and drag under the blade mount and stop the blade. True, not nice to empty but usually they aren't 'that' dirty - mostly it's expectation and not fact which folks fear. The bi that gave me the willies was the grommet with the power running through it being such a loose fit - you MUST support the power so it NEVER moves unless you want it to move. Pop a bin by the loo and encourage it's use. Tell you paying guests you check the saniflow before they leave ........ so DON'T flush shit other than shit!!!!
