A way to interpret why Alfie backed out of shooting Tommy is that, because he mentioned the "stigmata", fucking up a man's nose "biblically", when Tommy's nose started bleeding Alfie was taken aback for religious reasons, as in he thought Tommy was favored by God. But I just think Alfie saw a man who was completely fucked up but still had the balls to come negotiate with him, and respected said balls
The tunnelers dug tunnels across no-man's land under the German trenches. The tunnel would be packed with explosives that were set off prior to an above-ground attack. The Germans dug counter-tunnels to intercept, leading to underground fights between each sides tunnelers. At the Battle of Messines in 1917, 19 of these mines were set off under the German trenches killing approximately 10,000. War is hell.
"What is this conversation?" Literally every conversation with Alfie is like this so buckle up. He's a great character, he's just so random that he'll lose you mid-convo. I love him though, he's hilarious.
@@FiresCollide I agree that he's underrated but he's absolutely not only known for these roles though...an actor's credentials aren't measured by which role in which superhero movie they were in...and the people who only know actors that played in superhero movies, they don't watch movies, they mostly just watch whatever Marvel dumps on their plate. So who cares what they think? With that mindset he'll only get more popular if he takes even more roles in superhero movies...because outside of that echochamber, he's a well established name already with many blockbusters and cult classics under his belt.
@@AgeofJP I'm an entertainment journalist, so I care. If more people can become interested in branching out and exploring more movies and TV shows, great.
@@FiresCollide I mean, I'm with you there...IF people become interested, great. But the reality is that most people just don't want to become interested, and that's fine. It's the same in every medium, there's dumbed down pop stuff for the masses and then there's the actually good stuff for the people who don't just see it as an interchangeable passtime...let's be honest, movies like Bronson and Warrior aren't most people's cup of tea. And as a journalist aren't you rather supposed to be reviewing and explaining anyway? Getting other people to develop interest is more of an advertiser's job, no? Since I've been way more disagreeable here than I actually disagree with you, let me add this: I wrote the previous reply before watching the video, and while watching the video...well, it pained me to hear them calling him Bane and Venom all the time. So yeah, I took your comment without context...I don't care what the masses think, but it's very different when it comes to people I "know" and like. In other words: (In this context) I care aswell
Helen McCrory's acting though. Polly's always so cool and composed but when Tommy brought up her children she showed so much vulnerability. Scenes with Tommy and Polly together are always so good.
Tunneler soldiers in WWI was basically a last ditch plan and a suicide mission. With the invention of trench warfare, barbed wire, better guns they had to do something to advance the fight. So they dug tunnels for months, rigged it with dynamite and blew up the enemy fortifications to move forward while those above ground were getting murked and stuck. I would suggest Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast...He really breaks it down how bad WWI really got...Also, Tommy was probably first in line for that job, being of gypsie descent and poor..who gives a damn if he dies. Churchill got a gang of folks killed in WWI as a young officer also, so when round two came he gave no quarter.
From what I've found online, the difference between light/white rum and dark/brown rum is the aging process. Brown rum is kept in barrels, and aged for a long time, giving it its brown color. I imagine white rum is aged for much less time and therefore won't become brown but... white or clear. White rum is also sweeter than brown rum, and used as a base for cocktails, which I guess is why the bosses like it so much.

4:05 I know you guys love using the "draft dodger" joke but I've found out that Inspector Campbell was too old to be a soldier in WWI (apparently only soldiers aged 18-41 were drafted... Tommy was in his mid 20s while Campbell was in his late 50s at the start of the war).. also he was stationed in Northern Ireland dealing with the Easter Rising (see my lengthy comment on the previous video to learn more about that), to which he called a "reserved occupation".
The draft ages meant nothing in that war. That was just the age range that were called up officially. That didn't apply to people who voluntarily signed up. Kids as young as 14 were joining up (and the authorities knew it but turned a blind eye). The oldest person to join up was quartermaster sergeant Robert Frederick Robertson (UK, b. 12 September 1842), who was 71 years of age when he enlisted in late 1914. The oldest person to be killed in action was Lt Henry Webber, he was killed at the Somme. At 67 he was the oldest soldier to lose his life during WW1. So yes you could say Campbell wasn't a "Draft Dodger" but he wasn't brave enough to enlist. Being a Policeman was not one of the reserved occupations, and don't forget that Churchill resigned from government so that he could enlist
@@grabtharshammer Ahhhh OK, thank you for that information... I figured Churchill was within the age range to be drafted but didn't know he voluntarily enlisted.
