Great video. I ordered mine as soon as Because Tesla did his review. Good thing it is so cheap, because I consider it almost useless. The purpose of the foot sensor is to open the frunk when your hands are full. But, it will not work if the car is locked. So I have several options. Put down the stuff I am carrying to 1) Open a door to unlock the car or 2) Take out my phone and use the app to unlock the car (I could have used the app to open the frunk in one step without even having a foot sensor) or 3) Use the Fob to open the frunk. In other words, what am I saving by having the foot sensor if I have to unlock the car first? At least I will be able to close the frunk with my hands full.
I bought the auto frunk and foot sensor after watching your first video on this. However I don’t recommend them if you have any issues. I received a defective strut so it never worked for me. A month later after trying to jump through all the hoops they put me through I have yet to receive the correct part and I’m getting nothing but lies about them shipping it as they say every week oh it shipped today and a week later still no shipment and response that it shipped that day. Seems great if it works but good luck on their “warranty” if something breaks down.
Janelle Hammon wow my foot sensor is not working and they said they will send me a new one. That was yesterday hope they serious about sending me one and not lies about it.
Hannshow has been pretty good. Sent me parts overnight during Christmas holidays last year. During Covid there have been considerable delays with all mail from China unfortunately as took 2 months for me to receive something else from them, sent same way back in Feb.
You should really use a ring terminal to connect the ground wire. Also, the positive wire shouldn't be connected to the fuse blade like that, nor should the white wire just be wrapped around that other wire. For the positive wire, you would still want it fused, so just putting a quick splice (not a T-Tap) past the existing fuse would be fine. For the white output wire... I think that was used to flash the parking lights? According to the instructions, it isn't needed for the Model 3.
What prevents this sensor from opening the frunk if you drive over something on the road? What happens when you drive too close to a curb when parking?
It all depends on how you wire it. An example is the simple foot switches for your trunk (any car), you wire it with the trunk switch, and usually directly to power as well. If the car is programmed well, it usually won’t open with the car in drive or while moving, so neither will the foot switch.
@@nordemoniac All requests to open/close go through the main computer. The frunk controller uses the emergency frunk release wire (the one behind the tow hook cover) to signal to the car a request to open or close. VCFront receives that signal, but only acts on it under certain circumstances. Either the 12V battery must be dead, or the car must be unlocked. The car automatically locks at 5mph.
Hey, I installed one like that on my MX last year 9 months ago.. Still working great but somethings accidentally open/close when loading/unloading stuff.. I wished I make a video of it.
Frunk foot sensor system can be dangerous. The frunk can accidentally open while driving if the sensor is tripped when the car doors are not set to lock position. My trunk accidentally opens all the time if i forget to lock my car while driving. Make sure you set the auto lock feature before you start driving.
Ryan Tobias The Model 3 has a DUAL locking frunk mechanism designed to prevent it from opening when in Drive. Service Center can easily fix that - but if you modified your frunk and broke this feature you have also voided a warranty repair.
@@drdrew3 Agreed, but this auto frunk system is not A OEM feature for the 3 and not supported by the cars safeguard systems. Plus service centers dont install or service these auto frunk system. Have you installed this kick sensor on your frunk system?

I just installed frunk foot sensor as well and then realized it doesn’t open when the car is locked :( Kinda pointless to have it because I want it to open when I walk toward my car after grocery shopping and hands are full with stuff.. I should have watched your video all the way through..
Just got my upgrade kit and it included a micro SD card. There is no mention in the instructions or any videos about the micro SD card that was included. I assume we are supposed to update the firmware in the control unit? Same as we would do for the trunk control unit? What changes in the firmware?
No cable from the foot sensor to the frunk module. The foot sensor is using the emergency release to activate the auto frunk. Not the safest thing to override which is why Tesla Offer/AMPTech don't offer this.
If you put "Chapters" above your time stamps UA-cam will detect the chapters automatically and display them on the timeline. Check out my most recently uploaded video to see what I'm talking about. I'm now putting chapter markers in all my videos because I love the feature as a viewer.
Have you had any issues with your trunk over time? Mine has been having issues closing after being installed for a few months now. I had to force close it the other day, it just stopped halfway.
I bought the frunk opener using your discount code. However, I have problems with it. It will open but not close. I have had no luck at all contacting the company. I have both written to them and called, with no answer. Do you have a way of contacting them?
@@FrugalTeslaGuy It doesn't work doors locked or unlocked. I am so frustrated with it I am ready to put the original struts back on. If they would have some kind of customer service it would help. I get no response from them at all. You are so lucky yours works.

Wagner Wong These aftermarket power trunk openers are not durable - the motors tend to fail over time. Would be a warranty headache for Tesla to deal with those repair issues. I’m sure they considered an OEM solution since other models include this feature. But since the initial production nightmare of the Model 3 their approach has been to manufacture the cars as SIMPLY as possible. I totally agree with the above. Using an NFC tag could be a better solution.
