No joke that's all they own out there, two pandas or panda and forester and a road legal versions of some dirt bike. @@TheDude50447 the car will get the estimated fuel consumption set by the company,if driven at assessed speeds. However like with all other makes, excessive speeds will consume more fuel, especially after 130 klm.
@@quercus5398 In the city it works just fine but on the Autobahn I was surprised how the fuel consumption went up at speeds of around 130 kmh. Did some digging and found out that especially small turbocharged engines dont have sufficient cooling on the hot Turbo side and to a lesser degree the engine block. So what they do under sustained higher load scenarios is inject extra fuel (but no air) to just cool those parts down. Its part of the downsizing trend which isnt an issue when the fuel consumption is tested for. Also apparently another side effect is that due to higher pressures and more parts (especially the turbos) on the engine that in recent years engine repairs have become more expensive and more frequent.
@@TheDude50447 Basically like every other vehicle out there, one must inform themselves about the product then decide.....the two cylinder engine even though calls for sportiness, one has to baby the turbo, , Let it run a couple of minutes after arriving, and than there is lucky factor, once in a while out comes one vehicle that just wants to give you trouble.
@@quercus5398 You are correct that its an issue with every turbo charged engine but it gets worse the smaller the engine. Few months ago I watched a test here on youtube (cant remember where or I would send it) where they said that on the Motorway at around 130 kph a V8 Mustang has pretty much the same fuel economy as turbo charged 3 cylinders. Its a problem with how the fuel consumption figures are tested for. Long story short. The smaller your engine and the bigger the turbo on it the higher you will be above the claimed fuel consumption figures while its the opposite for bigger engines. In the light of that I opted to go for Mazdas 2 liter skyactiv x engine 2 months ago. After 4000 km now of autobahn and city driving my average fuel consumption is 5.5 litres.

Honestly the old small cars are the best, you can just thrash them and not only do they perform well, you have no issues about damage because you can very easily just repair them in your own garage and be back on the road for next to nothing.
This confused me too. I tought they did it that way so they can assign 0 points if a car fails a trial outright, like the Tesla did on the uphill bit around 10:20 - but they still gave it one point. I don't understand the point of that point system.
It's because a car that completes the challenge being the second is not the same as a car that doesn't complete the challenge at all. You get 0 points if you don't complete the challenge, 1 point if you complete it, but your performance is lower than your competitor's. And 2 points if you're the winner of the challenge. Now, why did the Tesla got 1 point even if it failed the challenge I don't know (probably to close the gap between the 2), but the points system is alright I'd say.

As for Tesla I think it couldn't do any better. Its longer chasis and heavy batteries give no chance for win. Very nice test anyway. Thank you!
So far, main brands EVs went in a completely irrational direction: overweight, overpowered, over the top. One day, there will be a little electrical panda 4x4. Let's wait.
There are a lot of "Panda" style cars coming from China - sales of such EV's in China are measured in the ten of thousands each month. We just do not hear about this from the main stream media ua-cam.com/video/gwzJg0m7Bgs/v-deo.html This channel highlights some of the new cars on sale in China for a few thousand dollars.
To be fair, most prospective EV drivers have no use for any off-road capabilities whatsoever. So giving them lots of ground clearance would be even more irrational, since that would increase drag, therefore reduce the range and then customers would scream for _an even bigger_ battery... But yeah, it would definitely be rational to use smaller, lighter cars for most drives. It makes no sense to lug a 500 km battery around town every day. I wish _modular cars_ were a thing, so people could expand the range and capacity of their small cars _only when needed_ - could be as simple as a trailer with a built-in diesel generator that can charge the car's battery.

Panda are good cars in the sense they are more reliable than BMW, Merc or VAGs entire range including current porsche (porsche forgot how to make conrods and engine mounts recently) and I never thought I'd ever say that about a fiat. Would I buy a fiat?.. No, because the only one I'd trust was built correctly is the panda and even at that they have a habit of killing the occupants if they crash with even a dirt bike. If I lived out in France or Italy and ran vine yards I would have one as that's all they use out there, that or a scooby forester. Everything else including LRs don't seem to work right on wet grass. No joke that's all they own out there, two pandas or panda and forester and a road legal versions of some dirt bike. They spend their wonga on boats and have hobbies, unlike most of the UK where most spend their wages on an unreliable disposable financed car and latest moby handset. Who's the morons? Well you decide.
my father used to have the oldschool Panda. That car was one of the best off roaders ive ever seen. One time a caravan was stuck in the sand. Then a Range Rover went to help and it stuck too. Then a jeep came to the rescue but guess what...yeap it stuck once again. At the end the tiny oldschool Panda saved the day by towing every single car that was stuck in the sand.

The two cylinder engine is quick, and was engine of the year, fun and cheap to drive, very reliable....kudos to Fiat.
Eats fuel like nobodys business though on the Autobahn.

Its certainly in the pipe line
