Great video as always. I'm the official RI and Southeastern Massachusetts Hansshow installer and I fully agree with everything you mentioned in your video.
I think all your concerns have been addressed with version 4 of this. I just ordered the auto frunk and trunk w/foot sensor from Hansshow during their 30% off sale.
I installed the Auto Trunk back in November, and it has worked flawlessly. I'm really glad I did it. I also opted for the foot sensor. Frankly, I don't use the foot sensor very often, I usually forget it's there. Today I had an interesting experience with the foot sensor. I went to my usual no-touch car wash to get my normal wash. Usually I pull into the wash until the Stop lights lights up then stop the car but leave it in "hold" mode. Today, for some reason, I put it in park instead. The wash did it's normal thing with the rainbow soap. But when it started the rinse, I suddenly experienced a blast of water hitting the back of my head. The rinse spray had triggered the foot sensor and the trunk had opened! It a good thing the rear seats were folded down, otherwise the trunk would have filled with water before I knew it. I felt like I was in the middle of one of those UA-cam 5 Dumbest Things videos. So beware, if you're in Park, the trunk can be opened by the foot sensor. If you are in Drive and Hold, the trunk will not open.
I bought this product from Hansshow 5 days ago, but I didn't get any confirmation on my purchase or when they will deliver it! did anyone else have the same experience? I also tried to contact them several times but they don't respond.
Hi, have you experienced any damage to the weather trim till now? Some argue that larger struts (and made of solid plastic/metal opposed to silicon of the major competitor) while closing the trunk would touch (and damage) the trim. I don't know if maybe it's a matter of installation (maybe there is some room to install them not too close to the trim) or linked to the product itself. Thank you
Frugal Tesla Guy help. Hansshow doesn't seem to be too helpful. I need to adjust the soft closing as would certainly resolve my concern. However, in following your step by step, the method does not work. Power seems to be lost to the unit and it does not beep. I hold the pin on the back without engaging the latch, and it makes the beeps but seems to always be the exact same soft close rate. I cannot get it to how you have it at about 17:45 of your video. Do you also notice the trunk lid deforming when being pulled in by the latch at the center? I've adjusted the strike several times to reduce but seems to make no difference. Really believe I need to adjust soft closing which isn't working. Help

I am now concerned in that the safety wire is there for firemen to open fronk and cut power from main battery of car in a emergency. Also, I just had my 12v battery go completely dead and I had to use my safety wire to open fronk so I could charge my 12v battery. How can I get the safety wire to open my fronk if the 12v battery is dead.
Tesla, the most advanced car in the world, having to install aftermarket automatic tailgate and do a review on UA-cam. I definitely want to buy a model 3 and have an automatic tailgate installed. OMG! How much did you have to pay for this car 😀
Yeah I was going to ask you how was the installation with Mr. Li and Handshow product holding up.. ? You forgot to mention $50 for the kick sensor installation. And is a unit also waterproof?
I’m curious if it stops when it hits something while opening? I assume so, but want to be sure. I have a 4 post lift that I park the Tesla under at home and if I pull in too far the trunk can hit the platform the other car is on. Which could harm the trunk. Edit: love that you can alter the height it opens! That would solve my issue too
I had this in a small parking garage. Under a hotel. It was very low. I open the hatch of my prius. And was busy with getting my daughter out of the childseat. And than... KGrrrrrr.... damage... complete weekend trip was screwed me...
With the phone app, is it possible to open your trunk accidentally when you are not standing close by? Like if you are in the house or even miles away? BTW those lifters have very smooth operation at a sensible speed. Are they linear actuators? BTW, this looks like an excellent product, so well thought out and easily adjustable. When the trunk is set to only partially open, can you manually push it open farther if you need to?
The app will open the trunk as long as the car and your phone have service no matter where you are. So theoretically you could open it by accident. Not sure about the struts but I agree, very smooth.
Mark, my trunk wont set the height to the highest (all the way up) using this process. My installers mentioned I may need an SD card to upgrade my box? I.m wondering if it has more to do with the power struts. Any suggestions?
Do you use Siri to open & close trunk and frunk? For the trunk wiring, do you have to take the main power lead directly to the battery in the frunk, or is there a 12V spot under the dash? How does the thick cable from both struts enter the trunk, is it thru an existing hole, what about water entering the trunk thru that hole? Thanks
It's all in the install video. ua-cam.com/video/QraYQ7EkX9Q/v-deo.html&t The power cable goes all the way to the front where the 12V battery is and where you connect it. I've washed the car a few times already and no issues with water. The cables for the struts run through a hole (that's already there) behind the tail lights. You can use siri for both the frunk and trunk as long as you have stats app.
Can I ask another question? I noticed from your video you have 2 reversing lights, in the UK we have 1, have you added one or is 2 reversing lights standard in America?
You mentioned that the Tesla M3 does not know if the trunk is open or closed after installation. Can you please let me know if the lights inside the truck still operate as expected?
Bluetooth on an iPhone has about a 30 ft range, so technically, if you're within range and not looking at your car, someone could jack the car. Might be rare, but it could happen.
Do you know if the programming closing force instruction is different for Version 3. I have followed your instructions, and my trunk only wants to go upward.

I am A lititle concerned that the tailgate edge doesnt impact the top of the bumper and thus creating a paint damage potentially leading to rust etc. do you have any issues like that? Have you had your car at Tesla SC after this installation? If so, any comment from them?

Very detailed and thorough demonstration. Tesla should consider adding those features in an option pack.
This really should be a stock feature of a car at this price point (along with heated wipers, vented seats, etc). Not aftermarket nonsense.

I love these reviews of the auto trunk openers, but only if it's connected directly to the battery.
That's how I feel. I'm not sure how I feel about plugging into the Can Bus.

You can just hold down the button you install on the trunk lid to set the closing strength. Much easier.
That's for the speed, not the strength. Two different things.
The power source is the same the other unit uses can bus for stopping in intended operation both require a 12v power supply

What happens if there is an obstruction or something heavy on the hood or trunk. Will the unit try to open anyway or will it reverse?

Yes. In fact, the Hansshow kit plugs into the lights.

As far as I know they haven't changed it. They are pretty responsive at Hansshow and should be able to help you with any issues.
