    I learned more history in this nine minute video than I did in 18 years of being in the LDS church and graduating from seminary. If that does not tell you something IDK what would.

    • @Ether-pb5gb
      @Ether-pb5gb 4 роки тому +3

      I have been around a lot of seminary students. Most of them lack the desire to go beyond the surface. If you are insinuating that the church is "hiding" it's history, you are wrong.

    • @dumplechan
      @dumplechan 3 роки тому +8

      @@Ether-pb5gb I get your point that teaching Mormon history is not the point of seminary. The purpose of seminary is indoctrination (to ensure either "eternal salvation" or "a lifetime stream of tithing revenue", depending on how you judge that indoctrination). And I get your point that most seminary students are just putting in their time. But the Mormon church has a long and well-documented record of hiding and whitewashing its history. Someone could grow up in the mainline Mormon church and spend decades without knowing that other Mormon branches exist, or knowing about the existence of slavery in the Utah territory, or knowing about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The Mormon church's misrepresentation of its history to its members and to the rest of the world is not just spin or whitewashing, it's fraud.

    • @Ether-pb5gb
      @Ether-pb5gb 3 роки тому

      @@dumplechan I'm sure if I go to a Methodist or baptist or catholic or Islamic church, I am sure they spend very little time talking about the crusades. I joined the church in my adulthood, served a mission, have raised kids in the church. You are doing quite a bit of misrepresenting. "Someone could grow up in the mainline Mormon church and spend decades without knowing that other Mormon branches exist, or knowing about the existence of slavery in the Utah territory, or knowing about the Mountain Meadows Massacre".........if somebody doesn't know about these things, then they are lazy students.

    • @dumplechan
      @dumplechan 3 роки тому +2

      @@Ether-pb5gb I don't think it's laziness. The phrase "There are none so blind as those who will not see" comes to mind. Mormons don't reject and attack the CES letter out of mere laziness.

    • @Ether-pb5gb
      @Ether-pb5gb 3 роки тому

      @@dumplechan you know what else we really don't talk about in Sunday School? We don't talk about the chiasm of Alma 36, or chiasmus in general in the BofM, we don't often talk about Mary Whitmer as a Book of Mormon witness, we don't talk about Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner's affadavit about her personal visit with an angel, we don't talk about "The Night the Stars Fell" prophecy, we don't talk about how the Lord commanded Oliver Cowdery in D&C to take the gospel to the Lamanites and how he ended up visiting the San and Fox Indians who in later years were found to have Jewish DNA markers......there is a lot that is not covered in the 50 minutes of time that we have in Sunday School.

      +Denethor of Gondor -- Both the Community of Christ and LDS Church accept the Book of Mormon as a second canon of scripture and views it as an additional witness of Jesus Christ that complements the Bible. At a 2007 World Conference, Community of Christ President Stephen M. Veazey ruled that a resolution to "reaffirm the Book of Mormon as a divinely inspired record" was out of order. He stated that "while the Church affirms the Book of Mormon as scripture, and makes it available for study and use in various languages, we do not attempt to mandate the degree of belief or use. This position is in keeping with our longstanding tradition that belief in the Book of Mormon is not to be used as a test of fellowship or membership in the church." The LDS Church regularly emphasizes the importance of the Book of Mormon and encourages its members to read from it daily.

"The Church of the Later-Day-Saints". We shall keep the doctrine literally as is, but everyone else is to be seen as a heretic. May they lack the ability to get in any of the three kingdoms. Amen.

      That's a strange position for god to take, to play games with our faith, don't you think? And it doesn't make any sense that it would damage the church to have these sacred objects, especially since all the prophets in the book of mormon had those things passed down to them one by one from the days of Nephi and they were specifically sealed up by Moroni to be handed down to the church in this dispensation. It just goes to show how disorganized the church really is. They always tout how organized they are, and that that organization is an indicator of God's presence and leadership in the church. But none of the original apostles could even agree with each other about who would be the next prophet. Forget about "divine revelation". Everyone back then claimed to see visions, etc. all the time, but no one had a clue as to what to do after Joseph died. But yet we're supposed to believe. Are you kidding me?

True successor goes to *James Jesse Strang and the Strangites* ...and not because he's my great x4 grandfather, but even Joseph Smith's mother believed in Strang as the continuation of LDS. When I went to the Salt Lake City temple I expected it to use candle lighting, and windows due to it being built before electric lighting was invented but it had electric lighting, and elevators. I found out that Brigham Young had received revelation that the temple needed to have empty chambers both narrow and small. Nobody understood why but they did it anyways because that's what the prophet commanded them to do. Later on, when electrical wiring was invented, they found that the narrow shafts were the right size for electrical wiring, and the larger shafts were in the right spot and the right size for elevators. That proves that Brigham Young was the rightful successor to Joseph Smith proving that the other "successors" were false. As for the people who broke away either during or after Brigham Young, they can't be right either because we're fulfilling the prophecy in Daniel 2:44, and they're not.

    I wouldn't use "size" as the main argument, although it is clear which branch God has been blessing. I would go back to polygamy, which JS taught. I would also go to baptisms for the dead, which JS taught. Also, the gifts of the spirit abounding with the "Brighamites"

    They are sabbath keepers that believes that they Aaron's descendants.

    Brigham Young staged a show where he would speak at conference and folks would testify to have seen a vision of Joseph speaking in his instead.
    Maybe that's why Brighamite mormons today are so much into variety and theatrical entertainment.

    Just made a new subscriber, by the way - If you don't have a video on the doctrine of exaltation yet, I'd love to see one. I find that aside from the icky race stuff in the church's past, getting missionaries to actually talk about exaltation is one of the harder things to get them honest about - They seem to hide teachings like that in an attempt to keep up the facade that they're just another Christian group like any other - Presumably because they know that if they told mainstream christians that "god used to be a mortal man" and "mortal men can become gods themselves", they'd be accused of heresy and ignored outright. I know for instance when Mitt Romney was running for president, he definitely tried to pass himself off as a normal christian and avoid questions about his specific beliefs. As an agnostic, I really couldnt care less that they're not "real christians" or whatever - it's just still irritating to see them trying to trick people all the same, ya know?

    The largest Mormon offshoot, though few will admit it, are Seventh-day Adventists (who clearly got many of their ideas from the Mormons), and Jehovah's Witnesses in turn are an offshoot of the Adventists.

    • @martynmulford1560
      @martynmulford1560 9 місяців тому

      Historical fact, Mormons were the original Adventists, and the Millerites took off from there. Then, Mormon missionaries were sent to the Millerites to bring them back in line, giving rise to the little group which eventually became Seventh-day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses.

    I think this video may not be very successful in it's aim to clear up any misunderstanding about which Mormon church is actually the true one. Before watching this instructional video, I had a clear understanding and now, after watching it, I'm even more confused.
    It becomes even crazier when you think about how Brigham Young said so much crazy stuff, a lot of members don't even consider him an actual Prophet.

    you missed one thing the Brighamites were not always called the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints.In fact the church that Brigham Young had started was called the Mormon Reformation. He had ordered all his followers in Utah to be rebaptized into the Mormon Reformation church. He also ordered the excommunication of all Blacks (African Americans) baptized by Joseph Smith because Brigham Young said Joseph had erred in the faith for giving the priesthood to the descendants of Cain. The Mormon reformation church was established in 1856 under the direction of President of the Church Brigham Young. During the Reformation, Young sent his counselor Jedediah M. Grant and other church leaders to preach to NEW GOSPEL of Blacks should not hold the priesthood and must be excommunicated immediately. This doctrine was forced on all followers of Brigham Young throughout Utah Territory and surrounding Mormon communities with the goal to build a church without the Lw of consecration and with the bank ZCMI with 10% tithing rather than a full tith of the law of sacrifice that waqs taught by Joseph Smith. As a result of the Reformation, all "active" or involved LDS Church members were rebaptized to obey Brigham Young´s new commandment.Several sermons by Willard Richards and George A. Smith that had been delivered earlier in the history of the LDS Church had touched on the concept of blood atonement, suggesting that apostates,
    were beyond the saving power of the blood of Christ and could be
    redeemed only by the voluntary shedding of their own blood. On September
    21, 1856, while calling for sincere repentance by church members,
    Brigham Young took the idea further, and stated: "I know that there are
    transgressors, who, if they knew themselves and the only condition upon
    which they can obtain forgiveness, would beg of their brethren to shed
    their blood, that the smoke might ascend to God as an offering to
    appease the wrath that is kindled against them, and that the law might
    have its course.Young reiterated the concept in several other sermons during the
    Reformation period. Although this belief was never widely accepted by
    church members, it became part of the public image of the church at the
    time and was pilloried in eastern newspapers along with the practice of
    polygamy. During the subsequent history of the church, this concept was
    frequently criticized by church members and was formally repudiated as
    church doctrine in 1889 and again in 1978.
