Today I wanted to film a comparison between lab diamond stud earrings and moissanite stud earrings. As you can see in the video they actually look rather close to one another at first glance, but when you really examine them in different lighting conditions you can see key differences between the two.
In outdoor lighting, the moissanites and lab diamonds actually look pretty similar to one another. The rainbow appearance of the moissanites is masked by the bright sunlight. That being said, when you compare them in the macro lens the moissanites do look slightly cloudy compared to the lab diamonds.
In indoor lighting, this is really where you can see a difference between the two. The moissanites have a strong rainbow color that is definitely noticeable when sitting next to a real diamond.
I do want to add that the actual earrings that the moissanites are set into are really cheap. The earring back failed after only four uses, which is really disappointing. If you decide to go the moissanite route I would buy the stones separate and get them set into a nice set of earrings.

With such good quality moissanites and lab diamonds available, I can't see the value in paying huge sums for natural diamonds anymore. They tend to have inclusions or less than perfect colour so why have them?

If a moissanite has a good heart and arrow cut, set in 18K gold then only the light reflection would matter. Moissanite does not affect settings!!

Can you shower with them and it wont go bad or change colors?

Yes. Just wipe the tip off and they look wonderful. With diamonds you have to clean the underneath also!

If you regularly clean with jewellery cleaner, soft bristle brush, your moissanite can keep shining.
