People point out that a Moissanite stone has a Mohs hardness of 9.25 (I've seen some sources that rate them as high as a 9.5) making it the second hardest gemstone after a Diamond. What people might not know is Moissanite not only has a higher refractive index (more sparkle) than a Diamond, but it is also the most heat resistant of all the precious gemstones. Diamond, being made of pure (or almost pure) carbon is combustible (at about 1472 degrees Fahrenheit) in an oxygen atmosphere. Moissanite can resist combustion up to 2000 degrees! Meaning, your Diamond could be damaged or destroyed in a house fire, while the Moissanite will very likely come through unscathed.
I have had several large Certified Moissanite stones for over 20 years, high end gorgeous stones. Not one of them has discolored or turned cloudy in all these years. From my experience with them I do not agree with Bonnie on their durability. They are harder than natural diamonds and Jewelers can only tell the difference by doing hardness test plus Moissanite stamps the inside of stones. High quality Moissanite is not as expensive as lab grown diamonds and they are comparable to clear colorless diamonds. The performance sparkle is spectacular. I own both natural diamonds and Moissanite.....only difference is greater sparkle in Moissanite but who doesn't want sparkle right? If you want to wear an investment buy natural diamonds but if you are on a tight budget and want size and beauty, can't go wrong with Certified Moissanite or lab grown diamond. Moissanite high end stone mixes beautifully with other smaller diamonds in a setting if stones are G color. You will not be disappointed! Purchase them through Jeweler to insure they are of high quality and Certified.
Love your channel, Bonnie, but your comparison seems incomplete. I have both lab grown diamond and moissanite rings. In terms of durability, I wear my moissanite ring almost every day since 2017, and only wear the lab grown on special occasions. I haven't had to get either cleaned or dipped yet, so the setting does matter a lot - I totally agree with you there. My engagement ring is a lab grown diamond, but I had a custom H&A moissanite ring made because I was too nervous to wear the OG. Nobody has ever noticed the difference; only a jeweler or a really trained eye could tell. In fact, when I wear the moissanite, I often get asked if I just had my ring cleaned or if I just got it. It looks that good, even years later, and I'm fairly clumsy and reckless with the ring. Moissanite does sparkle way more than diamonds. As you mentioned, the sparkle can look like a rainbow, but there are different cuts of moissanite that will reduce this. For example, a Hearts & Arrow cut reduces the sparkle that a round brilliant cut has, and has some "romantic" symbolism behind it. There are also Harro Gems that will match oval diamonds better, and crushed ice moissanite as well. The only gem that can scratch moissanite is another moissanite or a diamond. It is one of the hardest materials out there. Honestly, I love my lab grown but I've worn it a total of maybe 20 times in 5 years. We got it appraised recently, and it is worth 1/4 of what he paid because lab grown prices have been dropping, due to more diamond alternatives hitting the market. In 2018, I bought another moissanite ring for $400 and I recently sold it for $650, but it really depends on the setting. Moissanite is not worth much by itself. Sorry for the essay, but I figure this might help someone who is looking for a longer-term comparison. Looking back, I'd tell my fiance to just get a moissanite, but we didn't talk about any of this back then.
@@stacietowe5162 that sounds lovely. One time I was talking with my partner and he assumed I wanted a diamond(which was cute) but told him I do have a strong preference for moissanite.
@@chempanda6388 I'm sad to say that I didn't know about moissanite until after I got engaged, and was looking to replicate the engagement ring with a stone that I didn't mind losing or damaging. At the time, my partner and I were both starting our own separate businesses, so spending 5 figures on a ring was a lot. But he ended up doing that and almost crashed his business. I barely even wear the lab diamond ring these days, and I pay around $300 every year on the insurance, which is why we considered selling it recently. I used to package orders, so I didn't want to damage a diamond ring and eventually got used to wearing the moissanite one. Since then, we've sold our businesses and are doing very well financially, but I keep buying moissanite because I like how unique they are and their quality. Natural diamonds are not unique or rare. Their supply is controlled and limited by De Beers, and there are ethical concerns as well. It's a whole scheme, and that's why I always preferred lab diamond and now moissanite. There are always new cuts, like the astro cut moissanite (by DovEggs). Recently, I've gotten into blue moissanite, which comes in many tints, but I just love the teal ones. There is no other stone like it!
Thanks for saying Moissanite is its own gemstone. I hear many people say it's a fake diamond, which it's not. I prefer Moissanite due to the sparkle. ✨
Hardness ≠ brittleness as a geologist I can tell you diamond is more brittle than moissanite. This means if you smash both with a hammer a diamond breaks easier. Hardness scale is JUST about scratching. 9.5 is incredibly hard and won't scratch unless you rub a diamond against it.
yeah..........as a gemologist you'd also know that hammering a diamond or a moissanite would destroy them both so...scratching is more of a common problem.
Yes!!!! People forget that a the ring is a symbol of something!!! It shouldn’t matter what stone you choose as long as you love I and your fiancé can comfortably afford it!!!!
Now that we think about the meaning of an engagement ring, diamond stands for enduring, but moissanite might just mean enduring and full of colourful experiences. Not bad.
If the ring symbolize everlasting live, then imo jade (grade A) is definitely suitable because jade have highest durability (not the hardest) for gemstone.
I love the video! I do have a 3.5ct Oval moissainte and love the extra fire it gives! I also have a family member who has a 2.5 round moissanite that has been passed down from the previous generation and it’s in perfect shape.
Excellent video! I have had several Moissanite rings for 10+ years and they're all still as beautiful as the day they were given to me. and i only take it off to do house cleaning. I do everything else with it on and no problems at all. They've also never dulled or got cloudy. I also have a couple of lab diamonds which i also love but the moissanite gets more compliments and out sparkles my diamonds every time!
Wow, BOTH rings are gorgeous. My husband and I got engaged in Aug of 2005, and I specifically asked for a moissanite. 1ct oval Charles and Colvard in a platinum setting. I still love it, no regrets. I'd love to get a lab grown diamond at some point as well. I have natural diamond rings (purchased through estate sales, jewelry stores, as well as my grandmother's ring being passed down to me) and I love those as well. At this point, I'd go for lab grown because of price and the environment. I may just get one of your designs one day.
Moissanites don't get cloudy overtime. CZ does. Moissanite is the only gem that can match or even surpass the beauty of a diamond, that is if you love more fire and sparkle, for it will outsparkle the diamond any day. I have both, and I end up wearing my moissanite ring more than my diamond ring.
Couldn't agree with you more. They do not turn cloudy! Never had one scratch or discolor and have been wearing them for at least 25 years. It's a bit disingenuous for Bonnie to review Moissanite if she knows little about them. They are durable, they do not discolor! They out perform diamonds in sparkle, are colorless so they are beautiful in any setting with diamonds. Don't hesitate to but a Moissanite stone.
Honestly....diamond is the best marketing EVER, lol. When you think about your wedding, the question you have to ask yourself is why I want to get a 20k rock on my finger...I could use that 20k to buy a car or other stuff...
I agree, my husband spent less than $1000 on my ring and I couldn't be happier. Idc if it cost him $10, I love that he thought enough about me to buy me something beautiful from his heart!
Absolutely! I just sold my 1.5 carat triple x natural diamond. I actually profited a few hundred dollars, but only because we bought the diamond at a great price from a local family jeweler 5 years ago. We are using the money to remodel! I also purchased a forever one hearts and arrows cut moissanite and have compared both in different lighting. There is no way anyone can tell the difference just by looking at them. The moissanite does not shoot off rainbow sparkles...I believe the new colorless forever one moissanite looks very similar to a high quality diamond. The advantage of wearing a moissanite over a diamond is that I don’t worry about knocking it or losing it. I have more peace of mind on a daily basis than I did wearing something that cost half the price of my car! People always need to consider the opportunity cost of spending so much money on one piece of jewelry regardless of whether they can easily afford a high quality natural diamond!
@@4evadiamonds667 yes, but there are always other things to spend that $20k on. I have the car, but sold the ring to remodel out kitchen and bathrooms. Didn’t need to sell the ring but it feels good to spend the money on something that will increase the value of our home and also be enjoyed by everyone versushaving a status symbol on my finger. With moissanite I get to have the remodel and a shiny pretty thing on my finger! I just wish I had never bought into the “diamonds are forever”mindset when I married 5 yrs ago!
A moissanite is a 9.5 on the mohs scale and a diamond is a 10. A sapphire (the original engagement stone is a 9) so moissanite is a "sturdy" choice. I love mine. 💘
What people don't understand is, despite moissanite having a hardness of 9.25, the Mohs scale is not linear. Diamond, with a hardness of 10 is more than two times harder than any other gemstone.
I understand why you say you prefer diamond. It's a question of business. Why would you recommend something you don't sell? I just lost my wedding set to a garbage disposal, and my husband offered to replace it as my Christmas gift. I was looking at a London blue topaz stone (I've never cared for diamonds, tbh; the ring I replaced was an aquamarine) when a moissanite caught my eye. It looked way prettier to me than a diamond of any quality that my husband and I can afford. It was a custom job, took several weeks to be finished. I just got it yesterday, and I am so in love with it. It's way more sparkly than any diamond I've ever seen. And I prefer that, so it's better choice for me. The jeweler I bought from is amazing and also custom made a twisted wedding band with moissanite accents. As you pointed out, a good jeweler can make any choice of engagement stone look good. I would encourage you to consider selling moissanite stones. I know there's the idea that there's not as much of a markup for moissanite, but when you consider that people are paying thousands of dollars for a moissanite that was probably obtained through Alibaba for maybe $15, I'd say that's quite the markup. (I gladly paid $650 for my wedding set, having had the chance to do my own research and knowing this, because I was aware that I was paying for the jeweler's time more than anything. And I knew he was that good.)
I agree, the most important is the setting. Do not go cheap on the setting! I choose a round moissanite stone because I want a second ring for traveling. I got it it set in a halo diamond setting and it looks so good. The diamonds really brings out the fire in stone. Yes, bathe that thing in diamonds! Tip on halos, do not leave any gaps, it really cheapens the look.
Doesn't sell moissanite, of course she says diamond. Moissanite is beautiful and waaaaaaay cheaper. Different qualities available. I like Charles and Colvard.
A lot of comments are saying they prefer moissanite, but really having seen it in person, diamonds just look a lot better to me. Since I can't afford diamonds, I have a few white sapphires and a moissanite. But I ordered a 2 carat moissanite to get a larger size and ended up returning it. Now maybe since it was online I didn't get the best quality one, but it was very clear, white and sparkly. Still to me it looked cheap like I was trying to wear a flashy disco ball or rainbow on my finger. It didn't "wow" and look classy the same way I have seen large diamonds. Like it has no depth or something in comparison and it was also more see-through colored rather than white like a high quality diamond. So I do wear a one-carat moissanite which looks more like a diamond but I can't go bigger than that without looking fake imo.
What I could draw from your nonsensical pseudo-english comment is that you prefer the less reflective nature of Diamond, correct? Moissanite sparkles more so it can be a bit too much for some.
Whenever diamonds are resold, the jeweler re-cuts them to get rid of any small chips or scratches, making them slightly smaller than the original size. I had a 1 carat diamond that I sold. The two jewelers I talked to both said it would not be resold as 1 carat because of the fact that it would be re-cut, which brought down the resale value.
Moissanite is 9.25 hardness on the moh scale, its the CLOSEST to a diamond in hardness. It is a kinder, sustainable and WAYYY CHEAPER beautiful alternative to diamond. Always choose a moissanite!
i love moissanite! my engagement ring is moissanite.. but i also haaaad to have a diamond (lab grown, of course.) so i opted to have a diamond wedding band. best of both worlds.
My bangle use 7 pcs moissanite eqv 7crt , for daily use i'm prefer moissanite cause that's not expensive and moissanite so beautiful. another my jewerly used moissanite too..love it.😍
Diamond is also a polymorph that is unstable at earth's surface temperature and pressure. Diamonds natural and lab grown over generations will start to show wear and tear regardless of their harness because no one wants to talk about the fact that they have 4 cleavage planes where the molecules are likely to cleave and break apart. Moissanite has one plane of cleavage. Hardness will not matter if you hit that diamond in the right spot with enough force. I'd take the stability of the moissanite any day *shrugs*
Hi Erin, just found this channel of Bonnie's and I'm replying late. I agree. I have a friend who back in 1996 was engaged/married who receive 2.5 caret diamond. Two yrs into marriage the stone became cloudy - yes it's a natural diamond will get cloudy. Purchased my first moissys couple months back 1/2 caret in platinum and I love them. Wear them all the time. Even when dirty for hair oils and product, my moissys still are on FIRE!@
The best advice here is that you should get a ring you and your partner both love and within your budget. I have a moissanite and we’ve been married 10+ years. It’s still shiny and beautiful and have not had any issues. I’m so happy with it. My band is also moissanite and I’m very happy. I have considered upgrading now that we are more financially secure but I decided not to bc I don’t need to. Like other say, your ring and whether it’s a diamond or not doesn’t determine the worth of your relationship. Moissanite is also beautiful. Choose whatever makes you happiest. In today’s economy, gotta go with what works best for you all. Marriage is a long term thing so don’t go in debt before you’ve even said your vows
Moissanite will always have my heart due to it's more intense fire and almost exact hardness compared to a diamond, but I am open to a diamond if my partner is willing to spend that kind of money. I feel that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter considering if you aren't careful you can still chip that multi thousand diamond ring.
Moissanite cuts the light better into colours, diamond sprays white light flashes more. But bigger rocks always beats smaller one so moissanite generally wins anyway since equivalent diamond is $30,000 compared to size of moissanite most people get.
I recently bought myself a LG diamond 1.2 carat to commemorate a special achievement this year! Really glad to be supporting more ethical and sustainable diamonds :)
Moissanite is amazing. I have a Moissanite bridal set and its beautiful and unique and sturdy and best of all, it cost a fraction of the same ring made with real diamonds. Also, funny enough, diamonds are essentially worthless. Seriously. If you were to buy a $1,200 diamond engagement ring and then turn around and try to sell it to another respectable jeweler or pawn shop, then you wouldnt get much for it at all. What's actually worth the money is the metal that the ring is made of and how many Karats it is. You could have a huge diamond on a plain sterling silver band and you would not get very much for that. The same goes for the other way around; if you had a beautiful Moissanite ring and the band was made of real gold then you could get a decent price for it. That's why ill never understand why some people get so hung up on whether they have a real diamond on their ring or how big the diamond it. At the end of the day, it's ultimately worthless and you end up seeming superfluous. *And yes, I do have experience and knowledge on this subject* 😅
Yes, Charles & Colvard is the original producer of moissanite. Their Forever One is colorless, (DEF) and they have the (GHI) that's near-colorless. Moissanite comes in different grades and colors too. I own a 1.5 ct. moissanite. When wearing it I never take it off except to clean it with a colorless liquid mild soap, warm water, using a soft baby toothbrush. It still looks the same as the day I received it over 12 years ago. And it is not the Forever One. It is mounted in 14k yellow gold. This ring can last forever if not damaged. Diamonds are brittle and can chip and crack if damaged. I feel that good quality moissanite, a stone in (its own category, not a diamond, not a ruby), would be a good diamond alternative for whatever the reason is. I own natural diamonds as well.
Interesting fact to add is that moissanite is more brilliant than a diamond meaning it has a higher RI (refractive index). So the "sparkle" would be higher in a moissanite
Bought moissanite from CC a month ago.. It was very beautiful... And then i bought a lab grown diamond.. I compared side by side.. Returned the Moissy just bc i wasn't a fan of so much of that colorful fire wc slightly resembles to a CZ.. But the labgrown I got, wow just wow.
Not to sound condescending, but this video is obviously biased due to the fact you are a diamond dealer. I have had THREE moissy's ... One that I never take off for over ten years...and they are in amazing condition. And I am tough on my jewelry. Did you know that a moissanite tests positive on standard diamond testers? They are damn near impossible to tell the difference and with the naked eye you cannot do it unless you are trained too. Moissy is coming up in the world and at this point it is driving down the cost of diamonds. There are so many good places to buy moissanite online...my suggestion is that if you buy moissanite, make sure the ring is real gold. Even if it is only 10k gold. When a moissanite is in sterling silver THAT is sometimes the dead giveaway. That is only IF you honestly care. I am proud of my moissanite and don't mind telling people at all how great it is. I bought my husband two identical looking rings, one with diamonds, one with moissy. He prefers the moissanite because it gives off more fire than the diamond. Also, I seen where someone said if the moissanite was not round it did not look as real. Again, not true. I have seen ALL kinds of beautiful cuts of moissanite. My biggest suggestion is that if you are going to buy moissanite, DO IT SOON. Because it is gaining popularity and the prices are being driven WAY up, which defeats the purpose of saving the money. Have a great day!
She did state it is her personal opinion. I love diamonds. One day, maybe I will get a 3ct round from her. But I have a beautiful mossanite ring in white gold. I get so many compliments. My husband didn’t have to spend a small fortune and I love it. Win win.
I've only ever looked at a ring and thought if it was pretty or not, and that's mostly because of the setting. I'd never be able to tell the difference, so I'd love a bigger stone than a natural one.
I think it’s hard for her to give an unbiased opinion given she sells diamond only and only had experience with it. At least she did fully disclose it. But I’ve seen my friends 1.5 carat round moissanite ring and I am no jeweler but it looks ridiculously rainbow shiny. Not my personal taste. So I got lab grown diamond. I’ll probably try a fancy shape moissanite one day for an alternative ring to switch off. In terms of resell value I think moissanite does better especially if you know where to buy wholesale prices.
I have diamonds and I have had my moissy ring for almost 6 years. It is perfect. The key is in the fancy cuts and if you care to pass as a diamond, then buying a size that is realistic for the income you earn. Mine is an OEC and I’ve fooled the most loyal diamond wearers. I’ve compared mine to a family heirloom OEC diamond and the fire and scintillation was almost exact. No one is walking around comparing stones when you’re out and about and everyone has always assumed my ring is diamond. I tell ppl bc I don’t care to hide it but I love my rings I have two different rings I wear depending on my mood. It would have cost me 10x the cost of my two rings in a diamond that holds any value. I agree that the round brilliant cut moissy definitely looks different in the faceting and that is why I never liked them in that cut. Every stone can chip depending on how you treat your ring. But moissy is strong. I had a colleague chip her $50k diamond. I think the best advice to people is shop around find jewellers that carry all stones so you have options and find the styles that you love in whatever stone makes you happy!
@@helenalovelock1030 depending on your preferences, moissanite can be cut so it is less sparkle and has fire like diamond. The standard brilliant cut will bring moissanite that signature rainbow fire.
About the size, personally I am not a fan of big stones because it is impractical, awkward and uncomfortable to wear everyday. Imo big moissanite stones look cheap and people buy big stones just because they can and think that bigger better. I prefer small stones just like average person's diamond because I like the illusion of rarity when I see small moissanite (I know that diamonds are not as rare as they marketted but still).
Thanks for the education! My wife has lost her real diamond center stone twice so we went with a (1/2c) Moissonite(her choice). From the recommendation of a reputable jeweler, he set it in a half bezel for protection and it was spectacular! Unfortunately, she lost her ring while camping, probably from removing her gloves? So now we are looking again, this time starting at the beginning like we did 40 years ago... :~(
Get her a 7CT Lab diamond, it will be easier to find if she drops it. Got one for my mom "oval cut" and she hasn't lost it once... cost me $6,500.00 for the stone and had a local jeweler make a similar to but not exact Cartier like 4 prong setting.
I was going to originally go with a round moissanite but when I saw it in person it looked plasticity. Then I ended up going w/ a 2.5 carat lab diamond for my gf’s ring and it was the right choice
Must've been a poorly cut moissanite that you saw. The Forever One Hearts & Arrows moissanite from Charles & Colvard are more beautiful than diamond. It's got that fire to it.
I had a moissanite before but I retuned it. It was pretty outside but inside in normal lighting it just didn’t sparkle like I wanted it too. I want a lab grown diamond next!
I Have a 3 carat lab created diamond pendant and I love it. The sparkle and shine is there inside and out. I also have a natural diamond pendant that doesn't compare in the shine of my lab created one. I put away my natural diamond pendant and only wear the lab now. Invest in a good chain which also brings out the sparkle and enhances it. You won't regret it.
What I see from the video is that the center of the lab diamond is clear and deep, I can clearly see eight symmetrical arrows in it. However, the center of the moissanite is a lot whiter without depth. If I didn't know that was moissanite, I would just think it is a diamond with a bad cut lol. And because of that, I would always prefer a good cut diamond for my engagement ring :)
@@fackyoutube8452 because they sparkle different. Moissanite has a double refraction and sparkles more like a disco ball, it’s close but here are differences :)
Love the channel Bonnie. I had a diamond for my first marriage and it was beautiful and I loved it, but I have a Moissanite for my my second marriage and its beautiful as well. My moissanite looks just as good as my Diamond ring but my moissanite shines much better. Its up to you what you want they both are great choices.
I just never liked the Moissanites (No offence anyone). A really good cut Moissanite can have great fire and light refraction, but in many cuts, you can clearly see the difference in faceting between a diamond and Moissanite.
A diamond cutter faceted my square cushion moissanite. The cut is incredible. I chose moissanite to replace my diamond because I'm a crafter and prefer the rainbow colors from the double refraction of moissanite. I've gotten more comments from my new moissanite (received 2 weeks ago) than from my F vvs1 round brilliant 3.09ct diamond of the last 20 years.
when a lady go's to a formal gathering wearing jewelry she would want that jewelry to come out at ya and the only diamond capable of doing that is moissanite
I talked myself into buying a moissanite ring online. I was crushed when it arrived it looked nothing like the diamonds I was use to. Now.. I don’t know if it was just the cut of this stone but I thankfully was able to return it since I was so unhappy with it. The store has excellent reviews as well. I think if this is what you choose, view in person and make your decision 😊
I actually got a gorgeous DEF 2 ct oval moissanite ring from a reputable store. It's been almost 2 years now and my ring has now developed what's called an 'oil slick' which I've never read about on moissanite before. Literally impossible to clean off. I've even taken it to get it professionally cleaned and they can't get it off either. From everything I've read, apparently no one really know why this happens. Some blame it on cleaners or hand soaps and lotions. Whatever the case is, my ring doesnt sparkle like it used to and it's just ruined. I'm heart broken because it does have sentimental value. We're now shopping for lab diamond. I will be replacing it. Lesson learned, sadly.
I have a moissanite that was purchased in 2015 as well as a pair of earrings purchased in 2011 and another ring purchased in 2019. The ring from 2015 did get a slick after a few years and after reading on some forums I tried sterling silver polish which took it all off. I hope that helps, I'd hate for someone to not be able to enjoy their jewelry!
I think moissanite can make a great travel ring or when you want to try a fancy shaped Diamond. I wear my Tiffany and Co. RB Solitaire as my daily driver but I just ordered an emerald cut moissanite for when I’m in the mood to change it up. Since it’s just for funsies I don’t mind the rainbow or lower hardness. I also have a moissanite travel ring that looks similar my authentic Tiffany and co set. So if I lose it in the ocean of get robbed, it’s not a big deal. I have insurance but I could never replace the sentimentality so I hate to travel with it.
Both so pretty! I was originally thinking of going with a Moissanite for my engagement ring because of its affordability and how much I love sparkle, but since I want an oval, I feel like the cut of oval Moissanites are not as "delicate"-looking as how oval diamonds are cut. I think I'm pretty set with a lab diamond now. Can't wait to work with you soon, Bonnie!
I have a Charles and Colvard 9x7 radiant, and it has a HUGE scratch on the table. I was under the impression they couldn't scratch. Apparently, it's more common than they say. I only keep it for a travel ring, and bought a diamond instead.
Oval moissanites don’t look like diamond moissanites! Oval moissanites aren’t my favourite either. I did see a crushed ice one though that looked more like the oval diamond.
you could only scartch a moissanite gem with another moissanite or a dimond, unless you use multiple rings together with diamonds, you wont be able to make a single dent. 9,.5 in hardness is one of top dogs
I feel like even natural diamonds are emotional investment if you don’t Have a flawless natural Diamond it’s going to be difficult to resell in the future
I asked my girl. these days the LG diamond prices really dropped alot... she will always choose LG diamonds ... yes we have them both and there is a eye ball noticeable difference...only when they are side by side. Diamond looks way better indoors and outdoors.
@j.kimmer1509 I agree. They are both pretty but even quality moissanite can look cloudy or hazy in dim lighting. If you get moissanite wanting it to be a diamond you’ll be disappointed
@@snowlocke1342 disagree. A diamond cutter faceted my newest stone which is a moissanite. I get SO many more compliments on it than any of my brilliant diamonds, round and princess. He cut my moissanite by the aset standard, so my moissanite is cut almost as perfectly as an ideal cut diamond. You get what you pay for, and I chose to spend extra to get an exceptional cut. The double refractive index of moissanite is why I chose this stone. I wanted rainbows thrown into my face, which my other diamonds just don't do...
The fact that you don’t sell moissanite should say it all. I think if I were getting engaged today I would choose a lab grown diamond so that I could get a bigger stone for my money. Even if I were wealthy I wouldn’t trade up my original stone due to sentimental reasons.
No it means she sells diamonds. Most Jewelers don't have Moissanite sitting in their inventory. My Jeweler has ordered Moissanite for customers who request them. They do not try to talk them out of it or upsell to lesser quality diamonds just to move their diamonds. They speak well of Moissanite and compliment on the beauty of them. The Hearts Forever Moissanite is beautiful and does not look plastic or fake, never cloudy. My family member recently upgraded her wedding set and put in a 2ct high end Moissanite in center stone. Jeweler friend who saw it for first time thought it was real diamond. It is gorgeous next to all the other diamonds in her setting. Set with 2ct DEF diamond would have run about $50,000+ vs $13,000 she paid for the total setting with high quality 2ct Moissanite. It's personal preference and budget. No need to go into hock for a ring when there are gorgeous stones as alternative. No need to have to buy CZ when there are other affordable stone options available that are durable.
@@jerieubanks6327 100% agree! I did the same...sold my high quality diamond for a forever one moissanite. I think people don’t realize that most jewelers don’t sell moissanite because if they did, people would stop buying larger diamonds. It’s not always a matter of money for everyone...personally, I love sparkly jewelry and after owning large diamonds, I feel our money is better spent elsewhere. Moissanite makes me just as happy if not more!
In Singapore $800 for 2ct moissanite stone is way over price. 1ct should be less than $250 before setting. $800 is probably for the older established brands from Charles and Covard.
Moissanite is more durable. Too much hardness causes brittleness. I learned this as a knife designer. Diamond breaks and chips easier. Moissanite also has higher refractive index. Diamond is single refractive and moissanite is double refractive. Moissanite will always outshine diamond. It also has more fire than diamond
Not sure how you would scratch it when the only thing harder is a diamond. It is literally second only to a diamond. In my opinion it would be ridiculous to buy a diamond over the Moissanite. I am not going to resell such an important ring anyway. My center stone is a bubblegum pink sapphire but I recently purchased a Moissanite ring and I absolutely love it.
Exactly and when people see 2 identical cut stones. They always think the Moissanite stone looks better. So why pay for a natural or even a lab-grown diamond.
I am a veteran diamond / stone setter... I make a nd service jewelry for a living. I dare you to retype a mois with a laser, they explode.i know that I am posting 3 years since this vid came out, so the prices of lab have dropped hard. Now labs are getting par with mois pice wise , there is no resale value with mois. I work with several pawn brokers, they only give gold value nothing for the stone. I do my best to never work with moissanite. I met with Covard when they first introduced the stones we were promised they would never be sold on the secondary market ,B.S. in the first year I had vintage TJC 'sales' pieces with mois replacement center stones . they were used to defraud jewelers and pawnbrokers not to mention the public. I admit I have a very bitter taste towards stones that hurt our industry.
I know this is an older video and your website says you don’t currently set other stones than the ones purchased from your website, but since you don’t sell moissanite if we fell in love with one of your settings would you still set one for us like you did in this video??
If a lab grown Diamond is made of carbon and real Diamond is made of carbon what's the diff, there is none they're both Diamond. I have 4 pairs of lab grown diamonds and they are gorgeous and you really cant tell the diff. I honestly cant take my eyes off of them seriously. I would never buy mined diamonds if the lab diamonds are made of what the real ones are made of that did it for me right there. Mined Diamonds:Carbon, Lab Diamonds:Carbon ,cheaper, more cuts with a better shine, sounds like a no brainers to me. I let my friend wear a pair of mine and she couldn't tell the difference
Lol you mean natural diamonds? Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds 🙂 And the only difference is the origin so it's not so much as "you can't tell the difference" if that makes sense.
Where was the moissanite ring you showed purchased. I want to get one but the only place I've seen it that was good quality... was Helzeburg Charles and Covard forever one.
Regarding the resale value: the diamonds, even the mined ones, will loose at least 50% of the purchase price, because nobody will buy them from you at the retail price. You can buy a moissanite for less than 50% of the cost of the diamond, and invest the price difference in stock, and you will be farther ahead even if you simply throw away the moissanite later on.
lab grown diamond prices are plummeting... always best to keep waiting to buy one if you are interested and go with a moissanite in the interim. besides... They are both lab grown stones anyways...
Are moissanite gems that will withstand over a lifetime/be passed down? I want something that I can keep forever and that will remain in good quality and be unscratched.
Diamond is unique and really can’t be replaced, even with a more refractive stone. If you have the resources diamond is an experience you can’t replace.
I watched a few videos about lab grown diamonds and they are seeded with a small piece from a real diamond and after they go through the process is the exact copy of a real diamond and they have the same hardness as a real diamond 10. I have been married for a little over 16 years now and we just can't afford a real diamond ring so I was looking at Moissanite but they cost almost as much as a mined diamond. But now I am finding out that Moissanite isn't cheap!!! The Lab Grown diamonds cost just as much as a real diamond. So where to poor people go to buy diamonds that are not as white as a jug of milk!!? Love your channel by the way!!!
Moissanite and lab Diamonds are different materials, their only similarity is that both are created in a lab as opposed to dug out of the earth. Moissanite has a higher refractive index which means more dispersion aka rainbow sparkle. In terms of hardness, both are suitable for every day wear. It is incorrect to say a diamond can’t be damaged because of its hardness. Hardness refers to “scratchability” that is one material being rubbed against another. A diamond can still chip or break upon impact. Diamonds are not indestructible. Unless a gemstone is very large and rare, what you pay at retail pricing will be more than its resale value at a later date. With an engagement ring setting the purchase price is in the labour cost, profit margin, taxes and the actual materials. Resale, unless a brand setting, tends to be only the material value. Choosing Moissanite or lab diamond or natural diamond is a personal choice and it often made with financial constraints. As long as the recipient is in love with the ring and what it symbolises it doesn’t matter whether it is.
Yes. Absolutely. I’ve compared forever one hearts and arrows cut colorless moissanite to a natural diamond with excellent cut , clarity and color and the difference is imperceptible to the naked eye. Moissanite is supposed to give off more fire and sparkle more, but when you have a very high quality diamond it sparkles the same. I’m no expert, but this has been my observation comparing moissanite to a 1.5 carat, vvs1, F colored diamond.
So I have a question, from a dumb 22 year old wanting to propose sometime soon. How difficult is it to get moissanite for the main stone but then have diamond studs on the band? It sounds pretty simple but I'm having trouble finding anything online like that. would it be alot easier to go in a shop for it?
Yes, go to a reputable Jeweler and tell them you want high quality Moissanite and pick out a diamond setting. They should be able to obtain a high end quality Moissanite. They may not have it available in their store to look at but know they are beautiful stones. I've had several of them 1.5 ct and 2ct. Beautiful stones. Moissanite mixes well with diamonds of at least G color. Good luck in your search.
Go towards your budget. Just think you can get such a tiny real diamond 💎 that is not worth it towards getting a moissanite diamond or lab diamond that you can afford. Also getting a larger stone also. Whatever you're happy with. It is all in the heart ❤️.
People who prefer diamond by how its looks is okay nothing can replace that. But if you just want diamond because it is diamond and bought a poor cut diamond is unacceptable for me. It just like you didn't use brain to consider it at all. Moissanite last long same as diamond. So get back to work and buy great cut diamond or just buy moissanite.
@@jerieubanks6327 yeah I was gonna say I've never heard of moissanite getting cloudy, that seemed like a biased diamond jeweler statement 😏
It's also less brittle than diamond with less planes of fracture. Hardness is just scratch metric
But the main point is, why Synthetic diamond still so expensive as compared to moissanite?
@@youtubeseries7284 because twin with natural diamond
I couldn't agree more!
This was pretty insightful to read. I haven't met a person that wore a moissanite. I'm more interested in moissanite 🙂
@@chempanda6388 I love mine! The extra sparkle is amazing and it looks gorgeous.
Moissanite wears very well and zero cloudiness or scratches on mine after 10 years. I love both stones however.
I wear moissonite daily
It holds up to everything.
It's incredible
Hardness ≠ brittleness as a geologist I can tell you diamond is more brittle than moissanite.
This means if you smash both with a hammer a diamond breaks easier. Hardness scale is JUST about scratching. 9.5 is incredibly hard and won't scratch unless you rub a diamond against it.
yeah..........as a gemologist you'd also know that hammering a diamond or a moissanite would destroy them both so...scratching is more of a common problem.
I love her explanations on this. We decided to go down the moissanite path, seeing that it’s more affordable and still just as beautiful as a diamond.
Go with your budget. Last longer marriage is not defined by your ring gem. Just saying.
@@loonyspoonie3655 I have lab grown diamond for 20 years, but only wear it occasionally. Daily I wear a moissanite one and got a ton of compliments.

Now that we think about the meaning of an engagement ring, diamond stands for enduring, but moissanite might just mean enduring and full of colourful experiences. Not bad.
Well said
Yes... Better thinking. I love moissanite
If the ring symbolize everlasting live, then imo jade (grade A) is definitely suitable because jade have highest durability (not the hardest) for gemstone.
Not to mention: always ethically sourced :)
I love the video! I do have a 3.5ct Oval moissainte and love the extra fire it gives! I also have a family member who has a 2.5 round moissanite that has been passed down from the previous generation and it’s in perfect shape.
Nice to know that, thanks.
Agree. Or spend the money for honeymoon!
If someone can afford a 20k ring I don’t think they care much to save that 20k towards a car cause most likely they got all that already
I love mine too 🥰
Yes love mine too! Have never turned color or cloudy ever. Have had for over 20 years.
What people don't understand is, despite moissanite having a hardness of 9.25, the Mohs scale is not linear. Diamond, with a hardness of 10 is more than two times harder than any other gemstone.
@@heeyoungyang3003 I think the bottom line is people are gonna wear what they can afford to wear and what they love.
I will only buy Charles and Colvard
I prefer the moissonite even if it is 2nd after diamond in hardness, and I love more sparkles ✨️. Plus, it's way more affordable!
I like both but in my line of work I like that I don't have to freak out about ruining a $10,000 ring with my moissainte.
Yess!
My bangle use 7 pcs moissanite eqv 7crt , for daily use i'm prefer moissanite cause that's not expensive and moissanite so beautiful. another my jewerly used moissanite too..love it.😍
@@geminuri good idea :) thank you for sharing!!!!
Wow that’s an interesting fact!!
This is so interesting! Love it
The best advice here is that you should get a ring you and your partner both love and within your budget.
Its 2024, nobody should be overpaying for a natural diamond
I was looking for an engagement ring and natural one is very expensive til I found Lab brown diamonds, now im researching about moissanite lol.
So happy to see that moissanite is getting the well deserved attention. Thanks for the informative video 🌹
Very nice review but quite honestly I cannot tell the difference on looks even side by side in a video. Maybe in person it’s different?
She needs to do more research on moissanite
Yes...😍
What is the best most realistic cut / shape of a moissanete
Hope for you that she doesn't lose it again.
Have you compare with hearts & arrows on both ?
It’s like Ice Cream vs Frozen Dairy Dessert vs Frozen Yogurt. They’re all desserts which one do you like 💍✨
I had a moissanite before but I retuned it. It was pretty outside but inside in normal lighting it just didn’t sparkle like I wanted it too. I want a lab grown diamond next!
I believe the lab grown would not look dull indoors like the moissanite did.
You won't regret it.
i bought a 3ct and 5ct Mo's and LG diamonds. The LG diamond sparkle way more indoors and outdoors with better clarity.
Unrelated to diamonds and gems... Bonnie your hair is goals!! So pretty! 😍
If you want a statement ring, with diamonds- go for a coloured centre stone with a diamond halo- like the Diana/Kate ring.
I say the true definition of beautiful has nothing to do with the price tag.
Gorgeous. I've had a moissanite in the past but, I agree, I still prefer diamond. 😍
You wouldn’t be able to tell the difference even with a Diamond tester
@@fackyoutube8452 I can tell the difference no problem. Both are nice but they don’t look exactly the same
@@brooke86 if a Diamond tester couldn’t how could you?
@@fackyoutube8452 because they sparkle different. Moissanite has a double refraction and sparkles more like a disco ball, it’s close but here are differences :)
@@brooke86 alright you got it, you smart
Love the channel Bonnie. I had a diamond for my first marriage and it was beautiful and I loved it, but I have a Moissanite for my my second marriage and its beautiful as well. My moissanite looks just as good as my Diamond ring but my moissanite shines much better. Its up to you what you want they both are great choices.
I have a 2 carat round moissanite set in a 1 cttw diamond antique setting and it is a beautiful ring.
I just never liked the Moissanites (No offence anyone). A really good cut Moissanite can have great fire and light refraction, but in many cuts, you can clearly see the difference in faceting between a diamond and Moissanite.
You won't even see the difference if you get the Forever One Hearts & Arrows cut moissanite from Charles & Colvard.
Truth
What cut was it and shape and was it colourless or near colourless ? Also what size ?
I've gotten the "oil slick" on one of my rings. We were able to get the stone buffed, and it took it off.
I have 6 moissanite rings and 1 of them looks like a little bit cloudy now… I will try to use silver polish. Thanks 🙏
Set a large moissanite in a Diamond setting and you'll never think twice. As earring moissanites are superior to anything else.
I have a three carat Charles and Colvard oval, I love mine. No problems with it at all.
Oval moissanites don’t look like diamond moissanites! Oval moissanites aren’t my favourite either. I did see a crushed ice one though that looked more like the oval diamond.
@@brooke86 They aren't supposed to look like diamonds, they're moissanites.
@@stacietowe5162 ya and the regular oval moissanites look like trash
Diamond is harder but a moissanite is more durable. To me, both are beautiful.
you could only scartch a moissanite gem with another moissanite or a dimond, unless you use multiple rings together with diamonds, you wont be able to make a single dent. 9,.5 in hardness is one of top dogs
I feel like even natural diamonds are emotional investment if you don’t Have a flawless natural Diamond it’s going to be difficult to resell in the future
That Moissanite look's better than the Diamond. The Moissanite shines more and looks better.
she's into diamonds because she sells them but not moissanite
Both are super nice. I have all of them , plus spinel rings black diamond blue and yellow rings.. onyx and lab black earrings
Thanks for the info. I heard of a moissanite in the movie 'Snatch' and never knew what the heck it was.
Gorgeous!! Do you know what brand this moissanite is? Charles and Colvard or Harro Gem?
I just bought 2 ct Moissanide at $99, not at $800.
I don't believe all this talk. I have both LB diamond and Mo's 3CT and 5CT ... the diamonds are way better side by side....no joke.
Well, even though you put the rings side by side, I could not tell them apart for the life of me 😂
You're not alone on this! 🤭
I have both , plus CZ and real diamonds / Lab grown diamonds 💎 are real and cost more and resale somewhat.. depending on conditions
Where was the moissanite ring you showed purchased. I want to get one but the only place I've seen it that was good quality... was Helzeburg Charles and Covard forever one.
Other companies I’ve seen that sell quality moissanite rings are True Gem Co and East West Gem Co
It’s so hard to find really good cut moissanites so if you find out where this moissanite was from, please let me know!
Doveggs
A trusted Jeweler should be able to order you a high end Charles and Covard beautiful Moissanite stone for any setting.
This month i bought a LG 5ct round E color, ideal cut, vs1 for $5,000.00 US with IGI papers... it is affordable now. IT IS BRILLIANT and clear...
Maybe I need to get my eyes checked they both looked the same to me
Are moissanite gems that will withstand over a lifetime/be passed down? I want something that I can keep forever and that will remain in good quality and be unscratched.
Yes!

Do they give the same sparkle as good as a top quality diamond?
Yes.
I prefer the moissanite
I totally agree with you on this ❤
moissanites forever 🧡💎
Very informative! Thank you!!
If you can afford the Natural, go for natural, if not, go only for what you can afford, i think this is only the most common way to decide.
Why Synthetic diamond still so expensive as compared to lab grown moissanite?
My moisanite is a 9.5! ❤
You have the clearest videos out there. Seriously what camera do you use lol.
I see There are a lot of Charles and colvard marketers/promoters in these comments lol 😅😅😅😂
On average how much would it cost to set a moissanite in a tulip basket setting ?
Which one hits harder in the club?
People who prefer diamond by how its looks is okay nothing can replace that.
But if you just want diamond because it is diamond and bought a poor cut diamond is unacceptable for me.
It just like you didn't use brain to consider it at all.
Moissanite last long same as diamond.
So get back to work and buy great cut diamond or just buy moissanite.
