    Hi Albe. Another great video. I own a 2012 F800GS so I can totally related. I've upgraded all those items you mentioned to dial in the bike for my panniers and occasional off-road riding. I would add seat to the list. Thumbs up. Thanks.

    Thanks Albe, this relates well to something I've been pondering for a while now, categorizing adventure, rally and dual sport class motorcycles. Manufacturers use these terms interchangably, which adds to the confusion for buyers. It would be nice if these categories of bikes could be standardized. Maybe something like this:
    Adventure: available in large (from 1,000cc and above 230kgs), mid (650-999cc and 180-229kgs) and entry (below 650cc and 180kgs) classes, generally come with a 19" front wheel (can also be 21"), have a fuel range above 380kms, comfortable long distance tourer on-road and on good dirt roads. Not build for getting air time. Examples are R1200gs adventure/1290 super adventure t, F800gs adventure and Suzuki DL 650. There may be an even smaller entry level class starting with Kawasaki's X300 and BMW's g310.
    Rally: an adventure motorcycle modified to spend time in the air (suspension progressive, adjustable and stiffer), lightened (carry less fuel, thus made for more challenging riding closer to home), seat and screen more off-road focused. Example is the KTM 1090 adventure r or BMW R1200gs rallye. New purpose built entrants could be Yamaha's new 700 Tenere and KTM's upcoming 790.
    Dual sport: 21" front wheel sub 180kgs that you can drop, jump and ride on a highway for up to 80kms unless you have an iron butt and the concentration of a hawk. Example is the KTM 690.
    Anyway, this is just a first stab at it.

    Ciao Albe. I had the F700GS, almost the same motor. Man you're right about that exhaust. I had to experiment with a few to get it right. First the Akrapovic was just too quite and the new EURO4 compliance means no easily removable baffle. Next the MIVV exhaust. It wasn't as refined as the Akra, and the first one was defective, but it was perfect and the baffle was easily removable.
    You're right. The right exhaust really does make a huge difference with this motor. It made the machine much more respectable. Alla prossima!

    My pet-hate and yes it is a strong word, is ASC and yes, also ABS that cannot be permanently disabled. That they both come on EVERY time you turn on the key does my head in. The very moment the Tenere 700 is available in my country the F800 goes for sale, just because of that. And the inability to disable the various modes on the newer versions - game over for me and BMW, and I have owned many over the years. And YES the stock suspension is junk unless you use it to go shopping on blacktop of course

    • @TheDesertsweeper
      @TheDesertsweeper 3 роки тому +1

      @@gbner9991 I can live with the ABS, but not ASC, which can result you in getting stuck in deep sand if you forget to turn it off. There is also a way of tricking ABS to stay off if you look at the right forums.

    The bike is not designed for your weight. The screen is never going to be right, to tall no clean air, bit shorter buffering, bit shorter wind off your chest hits you in the face. Bmw thought why try. I'm not spending hundreds just to change a fully working exhaust pipe and it's not as heavy as everyone makes out. Those vario case mounts weight 1.7kg. And i don't like digital instruments. Would have cost us more for the bike if they did make all the changes for it. Could have specified from the factory the akroprovik exhaust and touring screen. Keep up the great work though love your videos and some more info on the led headlight.

    Hi, Albe! Thanks for this video - in fact I was asking for your dislikes. Can not comment them all, but fully agree with No1 - suspension. How the hell the bike of 13-15 hundred US does have unadjustable suspention! Yes, thare so many aftermarket parts, but purchasing the expensive bike you are not supposed to change it completely spending a fortune. There would be most likely no need to change original suspension to aftermarket one at all, if it was adjustable. So, totally agree. And No2 - stock exhaused system is really ugliest ever!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  6 років тому

      I like the exhaust on my 2017 GSA .., it could be lighter yes .. and when I first got the bike I thought it sounded like a fruit juice blender, but after riding the bike around Australia, and previously having loud bikes, I actually now totally LOVE 800GS exhaust and how dreamily QUIET it is .., and I can now for the first time ever actually enjoy the clarity of music and audiobooks through my Bluetooth earbuds, and easily have conversations without shouting on those times when I take a pillion passenger on board.

    The bike basically stayed unchanged for almost 10 years(?). All they changed as far as I know are little things like the rear brake fluid reservoir and some other really minor things, oh and the fairings... BMW should be ashamed of themselves, having pride for supposedly being somehow the cutting edge on motorcycle technology. Leaving a bike complety unchanged for so long and now coming up with the new f_gs lineup for 2018...with a refresh that should have happened at least 3 years ago.
