A handy site for checking the difference when you change front or rear sprocket tooth count is www.gearingcommander.com You can select the BMW F800GS (or many other bikes) at the top and set up stock, current and custom settings to compare with.
I was planning to do this on my ktm 790 adv r. Now I know. You voice is so calm and relaxed. I listen to all your videos even if I already know most of how the work is done.😁
When I first got my 2016 F800GSA I wasn't happy with the gear ratios, seemed like 1st gear was too tall and the clutch has a very short engagement...which meant at the time it was going to be harder to ride right out of the hole..I switched to a 15T sprocket and man that worked great...EXCEPT at freeway speeds you better make friends with the new higher rpm. Now after many miles and much time I switched back and was able to make 1st gear work soo much better, and got back my freeway hi speed cruise... Thanks for another fine video..
It's easy enough to swap out the sprocket, takes 5 minutes - I'm going to run the 15T normally, but for longer hauls on the highway I'll put the 16T back in.
I doubt it, if the installation was done properly at proper torque specs that shouldn't happen, beside he says "I even took a mallet to it"..... well....I didn't have to and the jt sprockets are made of carbon steel.
Thanks Albe. I have been searching ADVrider and don't see anybody warning about this. Better safe than sorry. Keep us updated about your experience with it.
Sorry I know it was a while ago but I was thinking of doing this to my bike. Only issue I was thinking is will it throw my speedo off? Just isn’t the sensor off the gearbox output and not the wheel?
I really appreciate your videos. They are very informative. Can you suggest a list of tools that I will need to start working on my 2015 F800 GS. Thank you so much in advance!
Hi Brandon, if you are starting from scratch, the easy and fast way would be to buy the BMW tool kit from crooz tools amzn.to/2ZJ7wW0 if you already have some, depends on what you already have, but one universal recommendation is zip ties and tape. Since you live nearby, keep an eye on my social media, cause I want to organize an off-road group ride when this all virus situation is over.
Albe's Adv thank you so much for your reply! I would love to join you if you don’t might a new, but older rider. I am trying to find a riding safety school during this pandemic and it’s really difficult. Thanks again!
Thanks for the detailed description and the performance data. I noticed you adjusted the chain on the center stand. I believe it should be adjusted on the side stand. Does it make much difference?
Is that a 2017 with the electronic throttle? I heard rumors that you couldn't install different gearing as the bike would throw an orange triangle. I would like to eventually change the front sprocket on my 2017 700GS but I dont want it to throw codes.
Not an actual review, but I talk about it here and there, the sum of it being that if you do off-road the bike, this mod is a must, if you mainly use the bike on the road for long trips, you might want to keep the stock sprocket. I hope this helps
Hey alby. I need to install 17 one.. Which gear i need to order i see many shapes for the sides on jt sprocket site.. I need to so so for cruising on highways
F800GS, F700GS Euro4 models have issues with 15 front sprocket. CONFIRMED! On 6th gear, after a while, gear indicator goes blank. At slow speed, it turns to normal, again after some time. And successively. Don't recomend for 2017+ models of F800Gs, F700Gs. If you can't know the generation, just look at the gear number indicator on display. If it is at center
but... all of them? I've heard that some of them don't have problems... I have a 2017 f800gs and I'm looking to change the sprocket... don't know if I should...
Hi Albe. Changed to a 15 tooth front sprocket. All good, but when out on a test ride my gear indicator stopped working. Did you experience any issues? I stopped, switched off, back on, seemed ok. Just wondered if it is ‘confused’ an ECU type issue. I’m assuming the Motorscan app wouldn’t be up to sorting it out. Thanks mate. Your videos are the best 👍
Thanks Dave, I didn't have any problems with it, but a few times I was clearly in 6th gear and the display was showing 5th, it would flicker on a few times and then go away. It never went away all together, you might try to put back the OEM and see what happens to see if that is actually the problem. Let me know and good luck 👍

Thanks man, I'll pin this comment to the top 👍
You sold me the moment you said you could lift the front wheel without clutching it up. Ordering one right now.
I just got my new 16t and chain in the mail... I want a 15t now too. FML
@@nef4ri0us68 Try going with a -1/+2 front and rear setup, it's an extremely popular configuration because the chain length is unchanged.
My f700gs came with a stock 17 tooth on the front. First gear is very tall.
Thank you, enjoy listing to you.
Thanks Jimmy

Sorry Ed for making you spend so much money, 👍
Albe now after I did it I am wondering if it could lead to this? ua-cam.com/video/MEjU6pGiMYk/v-deo.html

Perfect explanation
thanks captain ! looks so easy - jeremy mtunzini south africa
Thank you Jeremy 😀👍
We’ll done as always, thanks.
Thank you 👍
Thanks for your info and sharing this well done
Thank you Johann 👍
Nice video to watch even if no need to change it. Good work
excellent idea
Very nice and detailed video, am glad to see you back playing with your 800, looking forwards to new stuff you do .
It's all a matter of finding the right parts for it.
How about led lights like the Touratech ones, on the front of the crash bars??
I'm actually working on a cheaper alternative, I'm almost done gathering parts
keep these videos coming'
Excellent job! Big help for my sprocket change and new chain.
Bravissimo! Just that what I needed said the way I wanted to! Greetings from Peru!
Thanks for watching 👍
you the man!!! Keep it up!!
thanks for that... was brill.
I just checked my counter sprocket bolt, and it was loose.. whoever installed it didn't use loctite. Check your bolts folks!!

In my opinion it doesn't, unless you have super soft settings on your rear suspension
great video ..thank you learned a lot
No problem Nishad 😀👍

Mine is a 2015 and no triangle, I heard the same but I can't confirm it.
No different to slipping the clutch really. If were talking sensors picking different speed and throwing a fault
Did you make a video review after you've used it on the bike for a while?

@@AlbesADV thanks, I literally just changed mine so will see how it goes.
Hey alby. I need to install 17 one.. Which gear i need to order i see many shapes for the sides on jt sprocket site.. I need to so so for cruising on highways
is this a solution for the annoying sound of the chain when we are moving at low rpm ?
I’m not sure, I’ve never noticed that
Thank you for your videos. Have you noticed much difference in fuel economy since installing the smaller sprocket.
No, not really, a small decrease in top speed and the RPM run 500rpm higher at any given speed

Hey Albe, which chain and sprocket brand you are using, give me some advice on which brands to use on my f 800 gs.
Hi Haasoc, the chain and rear sprocket are OEM, the front is a 15T by JT Sprockets. Vortex, Renthal, DID, EK chain they all are good quality parts.
@@AlbesADV thanks for the quick reply. Take care:)
