  • Can you take a BMW F800GS off road on a single track trail???
    In this video I try to answer that question by taking my f800gs around the hills near by my house, following a trail untill it narrows down to single track.
    The F800GS is a very versatile bike, it can accomplish many tasks, so if you are an average rider like me, check out what the bike can do with one of us riding it.
    I hope you guys enjoy and thanks for watching.

      That is exactly what it is, the trail entrance is less than 1/2 mile from my house and it's just a few miles long, I can round trip it in 1h door to door, perfect to get my dirt on real quick. :)

    One of the better off-road and single track videos I've seen. Good job. Love the GS! I'm a mountain biker looking to get into adventure riding and this looked like it was right up my alley. Just have to get used to 20 lb mtn bike vs. 500 lb motorcycle 😆

    Great job on all that off camber stuff....so far my biggest problem is soft sand....seems like these big bikes just want the front end to auger in....
    Thanks once again for an enjoyable video!

      +Titantramp4u yes they do, speed is the key and a steering damper helps to keep the front tire straight.

      Okay…. I have both the 800gs and the Ktm 690. 690 absolutely spanks the 800 off road. It’s 150 lbs lighter with the same HP.

    Nice Video. Very good training area. To have a better riding position, you could put your hips further back, so the weight will be more central/back. Thats a common mistake. People stand up and put to much weight over front wheel = less controlled.

      Torsten Heimbroc, the real problem is that I need bar risers, I usually bend forward to reach the handlebars and keep my knees slightly bent as well, but after a while, when I get tired, I tend to straighten up and lean forward instead. It does make it easier to powerslide though, haha. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind.

    What tyres would have gone for on the rear? I’ve a git a GS 800 and these are exactly the sorts of routes I’d be looking at doing as I’m beginning my new riding journey have ridden in roads for 35 years…..

    • @AlbesADV

      Hi, i used the Heidenau k60 scout on the rear for a while, good on the street but a little slippery in the dirt, then I switched to the continental TKC80, front and back and they have a lot of grip but dont last long, now I'm using the Shinko 804/805 on my Africa twin and so far so good and way cheaper than the TKC80

    With proper tires, better suspension, better brakes, increase gearing and maybe hydraulic clutch f800gs can do single track all day.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому

      Those are a lot of mods

    • @khakimzhanmiras
      @khakimzhanmiras 5 років тому +1

      @@AlbesADV Well, tires are self explanatory, stock suspension definitely underperforms, stock brakes fade very quickly in some off-road situations and first and second gear is too high. Hydraulic clutch isn't a must but many people like it for technical stuff.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому +2

      I agree with you, I actually did some of those mods to my f800 myself, tires, brakes and front sprocket, the stock suspensions bottom out constantly but the forks and shock I want are quite expensive so I’ll wait a little longer, I’m just saying that in a pinch you can do with a good set of tires and some stubbornness. Lol

    • @khakimzhanmiras
      @khakimzhanmiras 5 років тому

      @@AlbesADV what suspension if you don't mind me asking? I was considering upgrading to some decent cartridges and a new shock myself but with some of the prices out there I could just as well upgrade to a new bike!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 років тому

      I would love the ohlins cartridges, but between front and rear it’s about 3000 dollars, so I might have to “settle” for andreani cartridges up front and Wilber’s with esa conversion in the rear. If you have any other idea please let me know I’m all ears.

    What do you think of knobby tires rear and road/superbike tires in front? -------For dirt and road.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  6 років тому +3

      +Adrian Rubi the street tire up front will not have any grip off road, you are probably better off doing the opposite if you must, but the bike will handle terrible on both situations. I really don't recommend doing that.
