You are guiding me towards financial ruin, my guy. I love it.
I do what I can :)
I just had this at a bar and I didn’t get any of the flavours you mentioned. In face I try to follow along with the tasting for many whiskey and I rarely get the same notes.
I'd be interested what you tasted. Also, was this your first drink of the night? That can definitely affect it
My all time favourite pour. Perfect balance of sweet, salty, smoky and spicy flavours. Wonderful complexity, viscous and oily mouthfeel, and 45.8%ABV. This stuff is just phenomenal.
Agreed. and great price point.
Oddly enough the GOT special edition talisker is my favorite scotch of all time.
It's a good one. I still have some left
sadly the new bottling (with the new ugly redesign) is imho of much worse quality and has lost its unique character. Still trying to find an older bottling
I love Talisker. It may be because it is one of the only Scotch Distilleries I have visited. If you can, do it. It is amazing and Skye is amazing.
I'd love to visit some day
When I first tatsted this I thought this tastes exactly like, what people that don't drink a lot of whisky would think whisky tastes like, and its pretty incredible.
This is such a solid whisky.
Great review as usual 😀
Will try soon
This is the only distillery in Scotland I have visited and it's great. Stunning setting. I've been to Scotland a few times but one of the next times I will make it a point to get to many more distillerys.
Talisker 10 was the scotch that made me love scotch. Really thorough review and matches my tasting notes pretty spot on. The only thing about comparing this to HP 12 is the heavy sherry and the lighter peat on the HP. I'd compare it to Laphroaig or Ardbeg. Cheers, Bill 🥃
Was there a couple of weeks ago but unfortunately it was closed to visitors. The distillery is right in the middle of the island not near the ocean. Super informative and imaginative video for a complete newbie like me.
Great review- It's a lovely bridge across the fruity floraly world into peatville - oats, orange, lemon, honeycomb, iodine, smokey, oily, salty flapjack.
I'd love to try this ncf and nac - hope to get hold of the 18 you soon.
Maybe compare Talisker 10 with Lagavulin 16?
This is a beauty, and one I always have in my cabinet. I think the iodine/bandaid thing is pretty subtle in Talisker compared to, say, Call Ila where it dominates. But you've caught the vibe of this perfectly. Campfire embers on a beach in a fresh breeze. To introduce someone gently to peated scotch my go-to is HP12. Try Talisker when you're ready to take the training wheels off.
I like to boil cloves in my tea, and often use other herbs and spices in other beverages (especially coffee) and food dishes. This helps me greatly in my whiskey tasting.
Great review - as always! Agree on the orange notes, which really make this whiskey a nice entry-point into the peated style. I’d say, specifically, an orange liqueur like Cointreau.
Love this one. Its one of the few in the whisky universe whose taste is all on its own. Its in your face, imperfect & challenging but by God is it tasty and unmistakable. Nothing else is like it. Surprisingly sweet and oceanic. A rough and wild beauty.
This is the whisky that made me fall in love with Scotch.
This is one of my favorite whiskies, that smokey salt with the black pepper and caramel (at least I got some) finish always does it for me! I think this vs HP12 and maybe a sequel with Talisker storm vs HP Magnus would be great comparisons. Thanks for the video!
There is just no substitute to Talisker. I haven´t had a whisky yet that is comparable to that beatiful juice... Cheers
I couldn’t agree more. Such an amazing dram.
I love the sweet spice finish of Talisker. Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon is a good enhanced sweet, spicy competitor minus the smoke.
I love that whisky, with japanese food, it's delicious!!!
Cocktail episode sounds fun!
Awesome review as usual Bill!!!
Been waiting to try it but it don't show up often at my store when it do it's gone fast😂
I got my whiskey dictionary rocks glass in the mail Tuesday and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much!!!
It's nice isn't it? Nice heavy bottom!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary yes it is perfect!!! Sipping some Paul John Brilliance out of it right now!!! Thanks again✌
Glad you love it. Good choice of glass
This is my Number 1 , my favorite 🙌🏻🥃
Talisker 10 and Highland park 12 would be a great one! 2 of my favorite Scotches!
Talisker 10 gave me my love of peat, I love having a bottle round when I can't afford the laguvellin 16,Kilchommen do some great smokey whiskies too
I really want to like Talisker 10, I do get some smoky sweetness from it which I like. But what I get more than anything is a big hit of black pepper and spices which is too much for my taste. I’m pretty new to drinking whisky so perhaps my palate will change and I will grow in appreciation for it. Hoping to try the talisker 18 soon to compare it
I love both Talisker 10 and Highland Park 12, maybe the most peated whiskys i have had so far
The 18 year is one of my favorite bottles. The 10 is more forward and not as elegant but still a fine dram
I may have to try the 18
The nose immediatly reminded me of the Ledaig 12. So go for that one. Nice review by the way :)
thx a lot for sharing your experience Sir, still affordable to acquire and enjoining, enjoy +++
I think i good comparison to Talisker 10 is Laphroaig Select. I have both here, and i have already tried them, i prefer Talisker, but i guess is a fair comparison!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Talisker and Oban where my introduction to premium whiskies. It would be fun to see them going head to head against Ardberg and Laphroaig. In similar price range, you can add Ledaig, BenRiach Curiousitas, Port Askaig 8, Kilchoman, The Classic Ladie. Old Pulteney is smoky/maritime but due to 40% ABV i think it will fall short on the others.
On and Port Charlotte 10 (which most probably will annihilate them all..).
Yea, throwing Port Charlotte into the mix would really skew things
Great comparison is Kilkerran 12 or Springbank 10, as they are similar peat levels & share a lot of notes. Plus all 3 (Talisker 10 included), carry a very specific note, that is often referred to as “funk”. Talisker 18, which I had last night, has more of a fresh oyster note on the palate, at least that’s how it comes across to me, where as the 10 is almost like standing on a rocky sea shore & tasting the sea spray coming from the waves crashing on the rocks.
Nice video as always. In terms of comparisons, I think you're right in thinking Highland Park 12 as a good comparison whisky. Oban would also be a good call with its pronounced coastal notes.
I definitely wouldn't go for Bunnahabhain 12, the bunna is a much richer, sherried affair. Think marzipan and dried fruits. In terms of one you haven't said, I'd be tempted by a Glen Scotia from Campbeltown, which will have some of those same salty and warming spice notes. The 15 is a top choice there.
What about talisker vs Bowmore 12?
I just had a glass for the first time at a restaurant, and I don't think its nearly as salty/oceany, but it came across to me was as having very balanced, but present peat flavor that could also be a good peat-intro dram for a newbie. Plus its an Islay Whiskey as well.
VS. Highland Park 12 please! I'm a huge fan of Highland Park 12, new and older version. Since I believe the PPM is comprable, I would love to know how they compare. Great job on another nice video!
You've got it!
Talisker is just delicious!!
I have tried a handful of scotch/whiskeys. Here is my list
Ardbeg an oa
Talasker 10 old and new
glendronic 12
Glenn Grant 12
Jameson triple distilled
the Singleton 12
oban little bay
mortlach 12
lagavulin 8
And Talasker has been my absolute favorite. The old a lil bit better than the new but the new is still on the top of my list
Also Caol ila 12 would be aa good comparison
I've heard that a lot... hmm...
Talisker 10 , Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10 🙌🏻🥃🥃🥃
I've had the Talisker Storm but not the Talisker 10 yet...curious about which one of the two you or others might prefer after having tried both?
I would like to see a Talisker 10 vs. Highland Park 12. I have both of them and I'm not quite sure what to make of them.
Very fond of Talisker. Oban is a good one too, very similar. A comparison would be interesting.
Wow I'm shocked I didn't think of Oban...
Talisker and Oban! Both a good drink
I'm not much into peated whisky but really like Talisker 10.
That's like saying you're not much into chocolate but really like brownies. (Not impossible, but kinda funny:-)
@@jonathanfischer5292 well yeah, kind of. The thing I really like about Talisker is that salty/brine flavor. It compliments the light peat flavor nicely. Some of the Highland Parks are ok too.
@@Terry12345 agree!
I didn’t want to be biased considering my ancestors come from this island but it’s my favorite morning dram.
Morning dram?
Really great review of the Talisker 10! Totally agree this is one of those bottles that every scotch drinker should in their whisky cabinet. Also enjoyed the fact that you mentioned the worm tubs. No one ever talks about those!
Would love to see Ledaig 10 added to the mix for a side by side comparison with Talisker 10. They're both peated island scotches, have a similar ABV but the Ledaig is a bit more peated as well as being non-chill filtered.
If I could offer a substitution I'd replace the HP 12 with the HP 10 just because it has a more pronounced peated profile than the 12, though it's still on the lighter end of the spectrum.
I think the HP10 is basically undrinkable while the HP12 is tasty. The 10 tastes like watery smoke
@@groberti Taste is entirely subjective which is what makes these discussions so interesting. I enjoy the extra whiff of peat that the HP10 offers vs HP12, maybe that's just not your thing?
@@peterruffolo700 Yeah, that is what makes this interesting 😁 Subjectivity :) I love the smoke, currently I am enjoying Caol Ila 12 and Kilchoman so that's not a problem 😁 I just feel that there are more and tastier flavors in HP12 which are missing in the 10. I actually have both and have been able to compare them side-by-side
@@groberti To be honest I only had the HP10 once 5 years ago and it was only about a 1/2 ounce pour at my local liquor store to try. I've had the HP12 more recently but only maybe 1 1/2 ounces. It's a very easy drinker, definitely a crowd pleaser 🙂 I have an unopened bottle of each, maybe it's time I do a side by side comparison as well! 😀
Cheers! 🥃
Oh yeah! I thought about comparison with Talisker 10...my first thought was Ailsa Bay and good second Ledaig 10🤔
I havent had Talisker 10 for a loooong time...2 years maybe...but my memory of that whisky is that it is very "meaty" on the nose and taste. I mean its not barbecue but...well...meaty...🤔. Since then I have tasted Talisker dark storm, 18yo and currently have in my collection 25yo👍🏻
I like Talisker 10 years but sometime it seems a bit sweet . A friend put me on to Benriach Curiositas 10 years , Peated single malt . Also very good not so sweet as the Talisker 10. :)
Compare it to Caol ila 12 / oban 14 or add it to the combination
Was going to sat Bowmore 12, but many have beat me to it. Great minds, i guess?
Try Talisker 10 Vs. Ledaig 10...
Bought 10 bottles today. They are on sale in a local super market für 27,99€/~25 USD
It’s my favorite daily sipper. Also works great with ginger beer and ice as a summer cocktail.
😲
Thats an amazing deal!
I like the 10. I think the comparison should be against Highland Park, Cragganmore 12, and/or Kilchoman. I think the peat and overall expression matches better to those than the other Islay distilleries.
Ooo sounds good
You forgot to mention the NAS talisker port ruighe... Which actually is the one I stock for the exact same reason, that you recommend stocking the ten for.
Interesting. Is that part of their core range? I didn't see it
정말 맛있는 위스키에요
It's delicious!
Amen
Oh yea, one of my favorites
As much as I love Ardbeg, I think that and Laphroaig are aimed at different goals, more towards massive peat. I think Highland Park is a closer comparison, maybe Loch Lomond and Johnnie Walker Green as well. I haven't tried Bunnahabhain yet...
Talisker and amaretto on the rocks = perfect blend
I would like to see a Talisker 10 vs. Ledaig 10
Off the wall suggestion, but what about comparing to JW Green Label?
How about Lagavulin 8 and Caol Ila 12... Whatever you decide on will be Awesome!
I'm already excited to drink it
Jura might be a good pick as well
Mostly because I just tried it, I think the peatiness in the regular Connemara seems close to Talisker 10. Might be an interesting comparison. Talisker 10 was the first Moderately peated Scotch I ever tried, and its still a favorite. Although I don't get bandaids or iodine, I get like charred salted bacon. In fact I refuse to smell actual bandaids cuz I don't want to ruin this, lol.
Hah! If bandaid smelled like charred salted bacon, I'd buy a lot more bandaids
Can't decide if I like Talisker 10 or Lagavulin 16 more :-)
Laga deeper richer smoke, and smooth complexity. Talisker dials down the smoke but maximises the briney umami flavours.
Street price for Talisker 10 is often 35% cheaper so maybe that decides it.
Have you/will you review the Oban 18? Cheers
I'd love to. It's a pretty expensive bottle though. Maybe someday
Although the flavors are a bit different. Some worm tub whisky comparisons would be cool. Talisker 10 vs Craigellachie 13.
That would be a fun idea actually
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Plus you get to drink two solid whiskies! Nothing wrong with that. I recommend Craigellachie to everyone. So underrated.
Vs Ardbeg 10!
Ledaig 10 can be good for comparison:)
If you can get it it - the Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà, perhaps...
I am a Speyside whisky lover. If I were to buy a bottle of Talisker 10, would I enjoy it?
Talisker is a great entry into salty and smoke. I think its a great choice to try those things out, but if that doesn't sound good you should avoid it.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I like Jura 10 and Springbank 10. Would spending money, about $80, to test Talisker 10 be a good idea?
Thats a little expensive. Should be closer to $65 or $70. A lot of people would agree that Talisker 10 is a great whisky and a safe bet. If you're looking for someone to tell you you should buy it, I'll be that internet stranger! Go pick it up, but try to get it cheaper.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary As I am now watching your Talisker 10 video, I see that you mention Highland Park 12. I greatly enjoy HP 12, so if HP 12 and T10 share some qualities in common, then I might actually like T10.
Can you send me a link to the video, if you compared Highland Park 12 to Talisker 10?
Thanks!
@johnzajac9849 I actually never did a comparison of those two, but that could be a fun VS. Style video
I'm 5 months late to the party, but how about Talisker 10 vs Ledaig 10 in a battle of the non-Islay Islands?
Fun idea
I've been drinking scotch for a while. I don't shy away from the more aggressive flavors, there are 3 different Laphroigs and 2 Ardbegs in the cabinet right now....... But I recently bought my first bottle of Talisker 10. It's undrinkably bad. Tastes like bad medicine and smells like bandaides. I know the reputation of Talisker and can't belive this is a good representation. Another whisky friend who regularly drinks Talisker tasted it and said it wasn't right. The bottle was properly sealed and the cork seats tightly. I've never gotten a "Bad" bottle of whisky, but this sure seems suspect. Any ideas what could have happened?
Bad bottles happen from time to time. Talisker is pretty universally liked so if you didn't, it's possible you got a bad bottle
Of all the Talisker expessions, even those of greater age, the 10 is the one by which they are all judged. It presents all the Talisker DNA and it's the best value top whisky out there in the U.K. I can get it for £30 a bottle and it's a whisky that gets a 90/100 from Serge Valentin. I love the coastal sea spray and rock pool signature. The 18 is great as well but the 10 is the base. Usual dilemma because you can buy two of these for the same price as the 18. It's a classic go to whisky. Talisker 10 vs Ardbeg 10 is a big beast fight but Talisker 10 slays everything for value.
Interesting... my palate must not be particularly refined. I really enjoy Talisker but don’t find it nearly as peat-forward as you. I get a *lot* of fruit notes, specifically apples. Actually I’d say it’s more like an apple juice... comes through strong for me
Thats really interesting. I think the Peat is pretty prevalent here
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary it’s definitely there but not in the same ballpark as some of the Islays (to me). Course the main peated whisky in my rotation are Ardbeg and Lagavulin so perhaps everything else just seems pretty tame in comparison
MacAskill is actually pronounced "MqXXoill".... I hope that helps.
Hah. I saw your comment correcting me and I was worried.
Try to BIG PEAT and ISLE OF SKYE!
I think comparing Talisker with Ardbeg or Laphraoig would be too drastic a comparison. Highland Park 12 seems like a more level playing field in terms of intensity. Bunna 12 would be interesting because it’s such a different expression of seaside whiskey compared to Talisker.
Thats my current plan. The three of these. Caol Ila is pretty high on the list too
I think Talisker 10 is unique in the way it balances peat, brine and citrus. Highland park would be sweeter and laphroaig would be punchier. My vote would be to compare Talisker 10 to Bowmore 12.
Not a fair comparison for Bowmore 12. Ledaig 10 could be interesting
Compare it to springbank 10 ;)
Oh you!
Talisker is hands down my favorite peated scotch line-up. Sorry Islay.
Coal ila 12
band-aids, iodine, smoke, that does not sound like something you should ingest...but i do plan to try this one sometime. The only Scotch I've had is Glenmorangie 14 and Monkey Shoulder. Both good, but obviously nothing like this one.
Glenmorsngie 14 and Talisker 10 are totally diff level and tasting note bro... I had both btw..
I would suggest Laphroaigh 10 if you want a similar taste note like Talisker 10.
@@darrencheong138 Oh yeah, I know they're very different. I just couldn't get excited by descriptions like the one that was with this video. On vacation this Summer, I had the chance to try Laphroaig 10. Now my shelf includes a Talisker 10, Laphroaig Select, Compass Box Peat Monster and a Laguvalin 8. So even though the descriptions don't sound appetizing to me, I do love the actual taste!
This is progression! 6 months ago saying it didn't sound good to now having that on your shelf. I'm impressed by your growth!
Thats still the old 10y old one? They made a new version off the 10y. Gwhisky has a vid on it.
Isn't it just new packaging?
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary No it tastes different.
is this available outside of the states?
Absolutely. This is one of their core range. It should be able to be found
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary thanks for the answer! i live in norway and in my experince its hard to find more then just the generic stuff
then again the goverment has a monopoly over selling liqour here XD
I admittedly don't know much about Norways availability but you have a good chance
@@jackstone112 We have same issue with alcohol here in Finland, but Talisker 10 is very easy to get from Alko😎
@@jannerantaruikka you finns have a amazing whiskey called Kyrö!
Wooo
Caol Ila 12
Talisker 10 vs Highland Park 12 vs Longrow
Lagavulin 8 vs Talisker 10.
Talisker 10 vs lagavulin 9
Buy this rather than Ardbeg 45.8 percent. Ralfy bad opinion. Stock it complex cheap and smoky
Talisker 10 and HP12 is a fine comparison, though the lower ABV and sherry on HP stand out. Because of the peat level and the richness from the worm tub, I think that the campbeltown whiskys are a good comparison (Glen Scotia 15 in particular lines up well with Talisker). Craigellachie 13 does have a very similar flavor profile but is unpeated (or nearly so) so the only smoke that comes through I identify as barrel char. I don't personally think the Talisker to Islay whisky comparison is very interesting as the peat profiles (and spirit profiles) are very different but your viewers might enjoy it, and for people new to peat, it will be enlightening to hear how very different they are.
First single malt: this or The Glenlivet 12? 🙄
First? Probably the Glenlivet 12
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Thanks! 😌
i think talisker is more in the Highland Park/ Bunna category than Laphroaig/ardbeg
You still have that “whoosh” sound happening with your mic after almost every sound.
Why did you have to say bandaids? Now i cant drink this without tasting bandaids.
Mmm yummy
BARで何を注文するか困ったらタリスカー
The new rebranded one is horrible...
"Worm tubs, were I talked about them in my kragelicki video, here and there,".... No links at the top of the video. Besides being pedantic, not a bad video.
Hey, no issues! You actually made me realize that something weird happened with the cards. I've adjusted where it shows up. Thanks, it's there now.
ua-cam.com/video/-DIX_dHT3tQ/v-deo.html
Can't understand why anyone would drink something that tastes like bandaids & iodine? What Scotch whiskeys DON'T taste like that?
Good concept for a video. In general anything from central Scotland. Especially speyside
