I Am Sekou because your videos suck too
This car is the meme of this channel.
The whole channel should be a meme. Should start labeling it as the "Smarter Than Average Ricer" series. lol
Not just a car, Rob's style reminds... goo.gl/HKvynM
Insight rare car
5% isn't limo tint.
I've had 2.5% and it was sick af. Had to roll down my window at night to make left turns. Backing up was just a guessing game.
OOOHBILLY Haha I have 3% Tint and doubled it with a layer of 15% on top with factory smoked 25% glass. It’s legit impossible to see outside at night I always have to roll down my windows since I have it all around. With a 9inch eyebrow on the windshield.
5 percent is limo you dip shit read the fucking box. the 2.5% tint is labeled super limo/ double limo
Yea... I had limo tint on a car before and during the day it's great.... night comes around... and you can't see shit. Sitting in the driver's seat you could not see inside my car as the sun would reflect you as well.... I didn't do that to the car, I bought it that way and I have no clue on what exactly it was but it looked pretty sick during the daytime. I wouldn't want it again though.
lolrip.
Why u so mad though?
Sounds like something Tavarish would buy for his Lamborghini.
Jimmy Grant all the cheap shit he putting on he not even gonna use a real tint
josh hodge he would use plasti dip as his tint lmaoooo
TheGamingBlurr 😭😭😭😭
Jimmy Grant 😂
Jimmy Grant the cheap Lamborghini?
Dude you’re not letting it dry the stuff is actually amazing once it dries and the sun beats on it for at least a day, it turns into regular tint. I’ve done it on both my cars. The stuff is awesome
When you set out to "prove" how bad something is, it's incredibly easy to "not" attempt to do a good job. This stuff is absolutely incredible! There are no bubbles if worked properly and it is extremely easy to work with. I'd recommend this to anyone afraid of "messing up", because it is 100% forgiving or to anyone wishing to to go below legal statutes in a state where they make you pull it off on the spot.
Based on his choice of subwoofer I doubted him from the start.
What I do is leave the white protective film on only until after I make all the cuts
Agree, he sucks wow, did not even spray under
How much TSER or IR does it block? Put a meter to it
as a tinter in training.... looks good to me xD
on a serious note i would get beat if i sent that out xD
Haha it’s so bad. My install skills don’t make it any better. But it’s so thick and difficult to work with.
its hard enough using normal tint and not creasing or getting dust in it but that just looks like masochistic torture to me and don't even get me started on trimming the top edge of the window with that stuff u.u
retitle video: "gimp suit window tint"
I've actually used that film on a couple vehicles of mine and have gotten it to look decent. If you treat it like real tint it turns out better. If you hit it with a heat gun for a while it shrinks like normal tint and that orange peel goes away. I've gotten it to near perfect clarity. I put 35% on the whole windshield of a truck I used to have and did 5% over 20% using only this cling tint. Worked fine. I even did a 5% brow on my moms car with this exact stuff 3 years ago and it's still there to this day bubble free.
I've used the static cling tint before on a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3, on the rear window and the two rear side windows, and it came out great, I didn't have any bubbles or raised parts on the edges. Just have to take your time and work them out properly.
Can we have a cheap mod series on the 4 rotor?
Cheap lol. I’ll upload some of the patreon stuff publicly soon
Don't upload our video from last week....
Why pay $20 for the tint + $12 for the install kit? In my area people (usually Hispanics) do a great job and will remove old tint and install new tint for around $80-100. Not worth it to do it yourself. Not to mention they use good quality tint that isn’t purple.
I paid $150 to have a shop tint my car. They used high quality tint, and I had this done nearly 12 years ago. It still looks good.
And if you've seen how a shop does it, it is not a "slap it on" job. It takes a STEADY hand and you must have a 100% absofrickinglutely crystal clear window. Every video I've seen in professional shops, they spend more time cleaning the window than actually cutting and applying the tint film. I'm serious.
Glycerin I paid 450 because my car is convertible and windows are a bitch to tint
Gabe Wall in my area in SoCal I paid $75 for a good window tint that isn’t purple or blue from a small business run by Hispanics too
Yeah I always get my windows tinted in mexico great tint for cheap
That tint had orange peel... Rob you cheap fu...
Orange peel like texture on a surface like paint or in this case the tint.
I installed cling window tint to both my cars and had none of the problems you mentioned...didn't move or have lines or anything else AND all my windows rolled up and down without displacing the tint...IJS...
I been using this tint alot
Works best with soapy water and a credit card.
Thank u. For ur answer
this channel has turned into an old man role playing as haggard garage.
Levi Carlton this channel is more haggard then haggard garage itself
That Honda Element is better than anything Haggard Garage has ever owned or done.
Basically this is the reason Abel doesn't want Rob to touch the car, cheap or how bad a product can be, kinda like how Rob tried to go with the Engine before. Ty Abel please show Rub your ways, teach him the Art of Quality.
Loving this budget daily driver build on the Insight lol. Keep em coming!!
Front window tint is illegal in CA.....demonetized.
front window tint isn't illegal in California, you just cant have below 30%
news to me; last time I was [in the car with someone else that got] pulled over the cop said none was legal
Naw you're right, besides a strip at the top of the windshield, windshield and front passenger and driver side windows can't be tinted whatsoever in California. Doesn't mean people don't get away with it, though.
"The amount of light that can pass through your car windows is measured in percentages (called VLT), so make sure your tinting film is up to these standards! In California there is no difference in regulations for sedans, or SUVs and vans, so these laws are for all vehicles.
Windshield allows transparent strip on top 4 to 5 inches
Front side windows must pass through more than 70% of light inside your car (70% VLT)
Back side windows and rear window can have any darkness"
This has been the law since I was born.
It's at least been this way since I was born (im 21) the minimum is 30%. Usually a officer will only say something about your tint if its extreme or they pull you over for some reason turns out they were wrong and have to nail you on something
Rob, this is a gold mine of content lately. So good I almost forgot about that 4-rotor...
Just used the exact same kit and tint except it was 5%. Aside from the hair that got on it it actually looks damn good. They key is proper prep and keeping it wet
Almost 03:00 AM here in Europe. But what the hey, Rob Dahm just dropped a new vid yo. Who needs sleep
Dog nah not really. Was just happy
Rob please try or the cheap Walmart dash cam. I think I would rather spend decent money on a good dash cam, but is it worth it for a cheap DD?
best bet is to use a old cell phone with a large memory card.
as an alternative
Yup, an old android cell phone works great. Just DL a decent dashcam app.
I bought a 30$ one from wish and it works perfectly
I got mine for $10 from Walmart and it works fine. The only complaint was it doesn’t hold a charge.
I put this same tint on my Outlander. If you use the hard edge of the squeegee to smooth it out you can kind of lock it in place, just use a lot of that solution so it slides along the tint instead of gripping and pulling it away. And after about a day in the sun all the waves smooth out and its actually not that bad other than the purple haze it gives off
That Gila 2.5 tint actually works great! I had an s10 I used it on and could damn near stare at the sun through it. I could park it in the sun and it was somewhat cool getting in. Definitely surprised me!
I tried DIY tint on my first car back in 2003. I got about half way done with the first window before I threw in the towel and took it to a pro.
Are you someone to consult about different qualities of baby shampoo? Like, say I need to wash like a dozen babies, who have been out in the mud all day. Do you think dawn dish soap would be a good substitute to say, Johnson&Johnson? Can I just say fuck it and run them through the wash with tide? Can you tint a baby? Where is the 4 rotor, Rob? Where is the 4 rotor, Rob? I know you didn't see it the first 2 times, so where is the 4 rotor, Robert? Real talk though, gonna shoot for 1000hp on the 20b ever?
Going for over 900 next!
Hey he just tuned the 4 Rotor beiotch!! 1014hp suck on that.
Pretty crazy how at the same time you have a AWD turbo 4 rotor rx-7 under the knife but are also installing cheap shit on a Insight
JC Martinez Gotta save that money.
Lmao. The people at the auto store probably think that he knows nothing about cars.
@@justinsweeney643 they probably offered him the injector cleaner special too
@@carljohnson4996 "would you like to buy our little gram of electric grease enough for 1 bulb for $1.99?" (meanwhile 10 steps back is their 16 oz tube of electric grease for $2.99
I order precut tint off eBay. Like $12 and works great!
JohnVHRC What kind?
jbkaufman use lexen, only company i will ever use from now on and i tint vehicles for extra cash on the side while im in college,so far done about 10-15 including my own vehicles
Hell yeah!! It is good bro!!
That Ebay crap lasts only like 6-9 months tho. I used it myself.
Col. Angus what happens to it?
Dude i just found this and this is the best tinting video ive seen what an amazing mind a perspective you have an amazing explanation process
the teaching is spot on, keep it up daddy dahm
Been watching your videos for a good while and still love them
I used a vinyl or plastic feeling static window tint like that on a old car I had. It worked and looked ok but after being on several years it baked itself on the window and wouldn’t come off.
Hi !! Last weekend I bought the same brand and combo that you showed in the video !!! I've never made that kind of job and hope it works when be finished. I'm proud of try DY !!
More of these videos please. You are doing things I always wonder about when I visit Walmart but too lazy to try out.
Is there a way to take off window tint from a back window without destroying the elements for the rear defroster?
I was wondering about that stuff. It looks like its vinyl, just like those square sunshades that are static cling. I don't understand wetting it down though. With the squares, I always clean the window and apply them dry, so they have, you know, STATIC to stick.
*OUT HERE IN CALIFORNIA*
I've been loving this series btw
Krook your comment is stupid
I paid 250 to get my whole jeep tinted out including the top strip on my windshield is that good deal or did i over pay
So you can heat shrink the fingers after it's been installed?
Loving this series of super cheap mods, it's hella fun to watch.
And then us great, unwashed masses can know that sometimes you actually need to spend real money to get a decent product. Keep it up, we need to hear it!
How does the glass not get scratched by the mini knife when you cut out the tint?
I love the static cling window tint ..In my state you will get a ticket for having you drivers door and passenger front door tinted..not to mention it will fail inspection. That's where this tint comes in, you can remove it quickly and re-use it. Saves me a lot of money..I never have any of the problems the guy said in the video for me it was a good purchase..
Thats where Im at like I drive a semi and it’s technically illegal in every state for us so if I get pulled in for an inspection and I can just take it right off and put it back on later lol obviously wont look perfect but it does the job
Tinting takes skill and patience. I used autozone tint without issue. Using 2 hands makes it easier. You usually have to wait a couple days before rolling your window up amd down.
Can you tell me the which adaptor plate and bell and flywheel and clutch are you using?? I'm about to do it
I really like this video series!
Problem with cheap tint like that is that those tint are just dyed. So they really don’t block out UV, glare or heat. Basically it’s just looks. Worst of all is that they all bubble and they turn purple very easily. Even if you clean with ammonia free cleaners. Not worth it imo. I would go with Suntek it shrinks up nice, Llumar, 3M anything like that.
How do you think it would do on flat nonmovable camper windows?
Wait wasn't there supposed to be a layer on top of the film that you take off that has the adhesive side showing?
What brand would you recommend for good quality that I could do myself and if possible send a amazon link please
After watching numerous videos of professionals doing it, I say it's not worth doing it yourself. Shop around at window tint places for a good price and have them do it. One BIG reason the auto tint shops do such a good job: they spend a long time CLEANING the glass and the car. If you do a $2 cheapass tint like this guy did, not only will it peel off in the hot sun but also, you'll see every single tiny speck of dust, hair, lint, etc on the WRONG side of the tint! And the only way to get that out is remove the tint and redo it. That's why window tint shops are obsessed with getting the car as clean as they can before they even pick up the tint film. And they guarantee it. My shop will replace any tinted section for free for the first 5 years of car ownership.
Dahm, you sure can be Dahm sometimes. I paid $30 on Groupon for ceramic tint film installed on two front windows (with the tint level of my choice) that is still going strong 3 years later. It's flawless. Again, $30!!! You can stack a ton of coupons on groupons all the time. This was in the LA area too.
Rob, what shop is building your 4 rotor in LA?
As a tint installer yes this stuff is cheap but you do not install to the top of the windows you allow room for the windows to enter the seal when it is rolled up.
You also install on the inside of the window correct??
I used the same tint for my windshield and it was going well until I over heated it and melted it 💀 but I’m going leave it like that for rn
I used the static cling tint on the front windows to my house it works great they both face west I am able to have the curtains all the way open And you can not see inside I did put the tint on the outside it said on the box to do so in order not to cause damage to the dual pain windows
I had my 1996 Thunderbird's windows tinted. Took the guy 7 hours. He said the back window was near impossible to do. Apparently they're known for being hard to do?
i paid 700 for ceramic tint on all my doors, rear windshield, and had a clear ceramic sheet on the front windshield. amazing thing about ceramic tint is that it blocks heat and uv. Can hardly feel any heat when im in the car and its 90 outside. Was worth it.
Window tint does not go on the outside of the damn car.
No shit Sherlock
What is in the garage, behind the insight miror?
Yeah have this on my car for the past two years. Treated it like a normal tint install and let it set for a day before using my windows and turned out alright. Little blurry but not really. Did it just to see and I seen.
Did it hold when you rolled the window down?
Hey the shop I work at is 3M and I love color stable how about you?
👏 Great video series!!
I really didn't think it looked horrible, I mean for cheap tint
Hey anyone know if he put the yellow cheap 6.5 inch subwoofers in?
Me: You going to the beach Rob?
Rob: No I'm going to my car
Love the budget mod videos! I've been really wanting to see a good budget tint review. Excited that you reviewed not only static cling, but will also try out the adhesive ones! Subscribed!
For one, UVB light doesn't go through glass, so you can't get a sunburn from your driving unless the window is rolled down. Also, you show us your right arm, how can that be when your left arm is the one that would supposedly burn?
If you are on a budget and gotta use the cheap stuff then clear nail varnish to seal around the edges really helps, and it stops any "fingers", I did it years ago with my first car I did use limo black film and I'm not sure if the film is actually any thicker but it lasted at least the 15 months I owned the car for, please don't judge I was young and did'nt know any better at the time, but you can't beat a professional install with quality film you'll be glad later.
I only use this stuff because here in NY you fail inspection for tints, I get it to look decent though plus for inspection just take them off clean it a bit then reapply.
I tested the Gila 20% static tint with a UV flashlight and it hardly has any UV protection. I called the company and they said it blocks uva and uvb, but they can't answer why it doesn't block my uv flashlight. my sunglasses blocks it 100%, i doubt this tint blocks uv light, 'm going to return it
I bought some ebay tint for around $20 before and they weren't bad in quality. Haven't peeled after a year being on there
I got my windows tinted on my Subaru back in 2006 by a shop in Los Angeles, using high quality tint. Still looks great to this day. Not bad for nearly 12 year old tint.
Also, cleaning the outside of your window so you can apply the tint to the inside??
I’ve had it score the film while forming it. Super unlikely. But why not. Especially on the rear window and making it slippable
Ah, that make sense!
I have that same hair dryer haha. needed to do vinyl work so bought the cheapest one i could find. love it though!
used static cling tint 5 and 20 percent on my new cars. they work perfectly if u take ur time. and the beauty is they peel right off. try removing window tint with adhesive when a cop orders u too. ull wish u used static cling on ur new car.
I used Gila tint (not the static) one time on a c4 vette....I know, cheap tint and cheap car. I drove it for 3 years and it looked great the whole time. As a matter of fact, I drove it to FLORIDA. It had no issues there as well. It was 5%.
if you press the xato knife hard enough you can etch the glass and leave a mark on the outside.
If you haven't already bought the next tint to try, could you try the precut stuff from Amazon.com? They make precut tint that isspecific for the vehicle and it's really cheap. Thanks for the videos.
This Gila stuff isn't all that awful. We used their white frosted product in a bathroom window and then I had enough left over to do two basement windows. Came out nice, still lets the light through, but you can't be seen through the window if it's night or day. Perfecto!
I have solar Guard do they sell it in auto zone
how do you not scratch the window with the razor?
I have scratc on my expensive tint what I do?
So the 3M tent is better than the Auto Zone crap? Or what is a good brand to buy for the DIY'R.
Testing the autozone adhesive brand next. So far it’s quite comparable to 3m cheaper products honestly
The static is not so bad for temp use on the rear to make the others look darker. I used to do 35 on all regular tint, which is legal limit where im at then at 20 static over the back. Of course you can barely see though it but can tell it a car is there in the day time. Lately I just hang a black sheet near the rear behind the back seats to make it look dark and add privacy. Plus its not tint. Its just not worth the tickets anymore.
I spend 45 bucks (not static cling) and did it my self and it looks damn good compared to my friends car who paid 500 for a shop to do his. However I took the windows out of the car, makes it so much easier
where did u get the razor blade from
But the box says u need to remove the film to stick it to the glass
dude you have to remove the protective layer and it gets super thin as well. i bought this same one and there is a clear layer you peal off. you use 2 stickers one on each side of a corner of the film and that puls off the protective layer. it is there man just hard to get off. so you just didnt get it off is all.
This is the one thing you should not cheap out on, even when it goes on well, it will bubble in a season.
I’m liking these cheap products videos
Walmart sells $10 tint and it isn't too bad to install besides it tries to roll itself back up after you peel the plastic off the adhesive but if you can get through that and get it installed it doesn't look too bad and easy to make look clean
when i was ~18yo i always tint my car window and that was so terrible thing to do :D every hair and shit are visible... but when tint frontwindows i used clear plastic tape to upper part of the window what goes "in" the door so there was no proplem :)
i use this on my boat and bus it dropped temps 10 degrees or more in mid day sun
i used to sweat sitting in. the boat
not anymore
i have 15 or more windows on the boat
5% isn’t dark enough for privacy at night
Your Insight is in so much better condition than mine!
I used to install tint, those small runs on the outside edges, use a heat gun on a low setting. They’ll come right out. For a cheap fix, use a hair dryer.
Where’d you get that Honda emblem
Dunno what you are talking about, but that is good tint! I use it on every car I buy because it is a sick cheap mod for any car. Like the new 2018 corvet i bought recently also got this mod added to all the windows! It's sick af now and the next cheap mod ima get is the mufflers you find in oriely
Is that FaZe Jev at the end ? Lmao
Can you do a how to plastic dip your window trim?
I didn't see anyone claim they have used this tint before, so here's my short review.
I used the same Gila brand of tint, the red box "Static Cling Plus" film, but I got 5%. The film is definitely thicker than most tint films, plus it's got just a very tiny hue of purple to it, but I really don't mind that. The tint works really fucking good at blocking the light and keeping the interior cool, plus it was super easy to install but mildly difficult trimming it to size because of its thickness but overall the film stays in place and does not become misadjusted when the windows are rolled.
I just made sure to squeegee the fuck outta the windows and also trim off the excess on the inside so it wouldn't keep bubbling or crease up. And the tint is removeable and reusable too. Now, I did this to cheap out on premium tint right now but damn my tint looks REAL good for being budget Gila tint.
Overall I do recommend the product if you're looking for privacy in the car before you get a professional tint job done but even then you could use this as your main tint and it'd work just fine.
Fyi. Idk about other states but in PA your window can only be tinted to a certain percent. If its tinted to the point where you arent visible, then you run the risk of getting pulled over an given a ticket..... found out the hard way. Parently theres no law that says/prevents shops from selling/installing tinted windows. But there is one that applies to driving & having tinted windows
Now that you tried the static, try the regular tint from the same place and do a video on that!
