- We are champions of the DIY lifestyle, BUT sometimes it truly pays to have a PRO handle certain jobs. Well, I believe that window tinting is one of those things that you do not want to get involved in. So, to put this to the test we brought a Pro down to the garage and we're about to go toe to toe ... why are you still reading this? Go press play

Damn, I'd hire that pro in a sec. He seems chill af.
And he was only 2 mins off from his time prediction, that's someone with some real experience
@@eonwheels he def got it, the video aspect always slow down these processes, since you work at an angle good for the camera
That he is brandons a good dude but he owns his tint shop
Give him a ring if you live in the southern Cali area 661-492-6740. Tell him his brother sent ya.
@Vilfredo Pareto yea if you mess up you’ll just get charged to get it off and retinted.
The guy is literally telling how to DIY what he is paid for. That's noble.
To me though - I will now definitely pay him (or another professional) to do it instead because I would fuck it up.
He knows that people just does not master his craft that quickly
That doesn’t mean you can do it😂
except he didn't tell us how to separate the clear, which is 90% of tinting
because he knows if you try it its most likely gonna end up like booty ass. its like gordon ramsay telling you how to make an omelette
I own a window tinting business and honestly love it when people try it them selves at first before brining it in to us, they appreciate our work much more after 😌
Years ago a friend had a tinting shop, he made it look so easy. I'm a die hard DIYer with everything from carpentry to electrical, engine builds to car stereo system install. I have a Bridgeport mill and a lathe along with oxy/acetylene, mig, tig and arc welders plus I roll my own ammo incl. 2 wildcat cartridges. But window tint, I let a pro do it. By the time I get good enough so that my work looks as good as a pro I will have spent double, triple or more on tint than what I'd have paid the pro to do it not to mention the time I'd have to invest. Anyone can learn to do it but if you're not going to do it for profit it's just not worth it.
I was one of those people most likely. Horrible DIY experience.
@@oldscratch3535 when I was a full time roofer , I went to an emergency call. The homeowners were tearing of their roof on their own , to save money. Rainy weather was forecast so they tarped what had been torn off. They said water was flowing into their house like a waterfall and didn't know why.
Got there to see what the problem was , and they had tucked the upper tarp under the lower tarp. Hahaha

Brandon: does literally anything
Zach: HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!
He's a mechanic, not really a detailer.
As a Window Tinter, I really do appreciate videos like these, it show people that it's definitely not an easy thing to just do. It's more like a craft or an art that has to be learned over time. More so when you cut by hand rather than using a plotter.
@@justinconstant2218 i agree, i was trained to hand cut the tint, some times cutting by hand is just better imo. And vinyl, definitely better to use the plotter
The first time I ever did it, it came out great. It all depends on whether you have artistic ability and whether you're a fast learner or not.
You’re wrong by calling it a craft. It’s just another job.
Don't get a big head, most skilled labor jobs take a lot more time to be good at

I've been tinting windows for 4 years now, and trust me when I say leave it to the pros. Even on my best days some of the cars I do regularly can become challenging.
A friend of mine did it in the parking lot of a walmart with a spray bottle and his driver's license lol
SAVAGE for that one....Props Due
No razor?
I would say that's some crackhead type shit, but crackheads don't have driver's licenses.
@@oldscratch3535 sure they do it's just not theirs and neither is the stolen wallet they carry 😂
Well? How was it?
I was on the fence about doing mine myself, but this cemented my decision to have a pro do it. Last thing I want is to spend hours on something I won't be happy with.
It's also satisfying to know that they have a machine with A.I. that can cut to the exact specifications of your exact vehicle.
yep, people think that spending $30 on ebay/department store film and DIYing it will be the better option, but then they either give up and have wasted their $30 and hours of time, or they install it and find out in less than 1 year that the film they stuck on their car is cheap garbage that not only doesn't block heat but also turns bubbly and purple very quickly! lol
I'm terrible at this type of thing but I managed to do it and it looks acceptable to me and only cost $25, certainly not a pro level of work tho
@@GlenEdwards imagine having a 500/1000 dollar car taken to a shop to tint
@@WRXHatchback same here. A couple hours of fiddling and now it feels like I have a brand new ac in my car.
Man, he is super smooth with his installation, and really chill to boot. Another fun vid, thanks, Zach!
haha this is great! nice comparison and thanks for a quick summary of the different film types 👏 👏

One of the best! I know he’s my real brother. For us it’s free, everyone else pay cash! You won’t regret it!
@@carycontreras6294 LOL
Thank you for reminding me why I love Wednesdays
I tried tinting my own windows once, never again. I even rebuilt my focus st engine last year with my dad (ran it out of oil 😬) but I'll never play with tint again
Just a tip, don't play with your car by not at least adding oil better yet changing it. Had same thing happen before and what could've been a $30 oil change turned into a $2500 rebuild. Learned that lesson successfully after that
@@tonyg-2jz82 just a tip. Don’t forget to breathe.
Made me remember my first tinted car by myself, ohhhhhh the bubbles
It wasnt that bad 🤣 personally i just fucked up the rear window (my sedan) did a 9/10 on a 17 explorer.... (My pops) i ended up just getting the rear window tinted by a pro. Suvs are much easier lmfaoo

Poor Zach 🤣
Get out of my head Donut! lol I was just watching a diy tint vid yesterday and spent the rest of the day having an internal debate it would be worth it or not... This just settled it. I'm leaving it to the pros.
I literally cant believe I enjoyed a video on DIY window tinting. Jobe is gold.
Zach, thanks for showing me the DIY vs. pro ins and outs. I learned a few things and discovered a new use for baby shampoo! The time consideration should include the time it takes to transport your vehicle to and from the Pro's shop and the wait time while he/she is working on it. Speaking of time, the time I spent watching your video was worth it!
I did my own windows this summer and they look pretty good, getting precut tint helps. I only got a few small creases on the rear window
Lmao 🤣 "woooah looks like yhis guy know what hes doing " aah love you guys
Brandon has his tint game on lock
Saw this right when he said it🤣
This is more important than school my work can wait
That was entertaining to watch from both sides.
Man this is such a great series. I know that DIYer's pain so well where you get the project most of the way but then run into some little issue that just seems insurmountable that a pro just breezes over with a decent tool and epic technique
That dude is having a hay day. Its just hilarious
Ceramic tint was the best thing I’ve done to my car by far, such a quality of life improvement
Same. It’s gotta be the most under-rated bang for the buck in terms of mods.
Fitted sunshades are amazing. Soltect does a great job, granted you've got the right vehicles.
"Because they're gonna sell out faster than 10mm sockets sell out on 10mm socket sale day." is the best line I've heard today. Even more special that the line starts at the 4:20 mark. [heheheh]

That smile at the end of the Special Announcement is really what got me to get it. Thanks Jobe.
Fascinating! The place I worked at, we were using a method to not require pulling out the interior parts, because due to heat and age and model/make of the car, it could put us under liability for parts breaking because plastic becomes brittle over time. Terms like bubbles, fingers, and the use of baby soap all were in line with what they taught me. I also liked how quickly that dude could hand-plot. My daddy was so experienced in tinting he would just look at the window and cut it on the windshield in like ten seconds, I would watch him. It was crazy.
To anyone who is thinking about getting into window tinting, be careful, or else you'll be looking at the tint on every car, and if you see a car with a bubble or peeling tint you'll be tossing and turning in bed for the next few weeks.
It's cool to see Zach struggle with something car related - dude's human after all.
That forbidden fruit lol I’ll watch it again 🤣
Alternative tittle: “Zach is mind blown for a whole video”
This guy is such a great technician, amazing to see, i wish everybody took this seriously any job.
This is why Zach is a G, if this was me I’d be SOOOO PISSED. Zach bro mad respect for trying anything and everything, I feel your frustration and appreciate you going through this.
Been tinting my own windows since i was 16, i always took out the windows first, definitely not worth paying pros in my opinion, just learn it urself with cheap tint, a bit of trial and error and alot of yt vids, save you more money long term and makes you feel proud of yourself as a extra little bonus
We need more of that obviously buff dude just to do something random and occasionaly give his advice and help out.
Nice of Zach to stay humble and call himself a "noob" whilst he decks out a Miata
Well beeing a mechanic myself, I would call myself a noob when it's comes everything that's body related, window tints, allignement.. etc. Those are kinda a speciality in the mechanics world

Window Tint is AWESOME! I love my windows & windshield tinted!
people who tint their windows at home are a special breed
I once tried diy window tinting and was so mad by the end of it I punched my own window out. That day I learned tinting is something I simply can not do.
By the looks of it. I doubt u have ever thrown a punch
lmfao no you did not quit cappin for comment likes
I would pay Zach to tint my windows just to hangout with him for an afternoon! :)
I heard he’s setting up a tint class! Email Zach for dates, times and lesson cost!
Is this considered a “tint-off”?
Lol Good 1 👍
Totally doable. I've never tinted a window. Watched 3 good UA-cam videos on it, bought a pre-cut tint for my car ($35), installed it, and it's perfect. It has been 3 years now, and it still looks like the day I installed it.
I didn't do the rear windscreen (it was already tinted), but I heard that's the hardest part.

Sounds cheap. Probably wasn’t rejecting uv rays
@@JacobDrives
Your stock windows already filter UV rays. Infra red (the ones that heat your car) filtering might not be the best in the market, but I didn't install it for that (I'm in Canada), I installed it to not being blinded by the sun, and it works great for that.
@@shane250 na you prolly did a alright install, I’m not being a hater either my friend! You should look into ceramic or maybe even carbon tint , those blocks sun and uv rays and do what u want yours to do as well! Sending love from California bro ❤️

Bro the pro is like your older brother just watching you mess up and laugh but helps you out at the end.
I run my own tint business out in Kansas, I do encourage people to try if they wish too. It takes longer that 4-5 cars to learn. You have different vehicles with different shapes of windows with different curvatures. It took me about a year to fully develop a true understanding and getting out of tight situations in a calm manner. Being able to think on the spot and fix it without getting any debri inside is truly a tough thing to starting off to develop. If you want a true challenge tint a rear window on a 4runner that rolls down, charger, or a c6 corvette
