That Ford became a Lada as soon as it got Vodka in it.
Vodka is 60 percent water. At that percentage, the engine would definitely misfire. The only reason the truck ran for a little bit with vodka was because the vodka elevated whatever gasoline was left in the tank so that the inlet of the fuel pump was able to pick it up. Water is more dense than gasoline so it would sink to the bottom while the gasoline floats to the top. As soon as the top gasoline runs out, the inlet will pickup vodka. At that point, the engine would misfire and stall due to the water.
Nope. The inlet is at the bottom of the tank. The heavier fluid would get picked up first. I am guessing the water is separating in the combustion chamber and he hydro-locked it..Idk.
@@farandwide7176 Hydrolock would only happen if the water accumulates in the combustion chamber. I don't think that is likely because the water is going out the exhaust valves as quickly as it is going into the intake valves. In cases where water enters the combustion chamber via a blown head gasket, hydro-locking is unheard of. So if an engine can handle the water from a head gasket leak, it should be able to handle the amount of water coming in from the injectors.

Even though the pickup is technically at the bottom, it's a ciuokple of mm up and that's quite a bit of liquid required to reach that level. His 2 litre or so bottle of vodka probably raised the remaining fuel to the pickup
And the fact that it takes just shy of twice the alcohol as gasoline to get an equivalent burn.

Starter motor is only used to start the vehicle. How would you expect to hear anything from the starter when it’s completely disengaged from the engine?

Worked at a liquor store for years and yes you're correct but they only buy a couple airplane bottles at a time. They know full well if they buy more they will drink it all. Life of a functioning alcoholic.

According to various papers on "hydrous ethanol", the engine can deal with up to 20% of water in ethanol. I.e. 80% moonshine.
Anything above 30% water will hydrolock an engine.
I love how even starting with an already "empty" tank the truck still did 40+ miles and idled for 4 hours... Never understood how people "accidentally" run out of gas!
Not all cars are like that. Some run out when they actually say empty.

@@Notfiveo0 my best guess would be the compression, with enough pressure you can increase the concentration of the alcohol in the air/alcohol mixture. My other guess as to why it seized is that while the alcohol kept igniting the water content from the vodka stayed in the cylinder ending up hydro locking the engine.

Dude, you can't run ANY engine on 80 proof liquor. It has to be AT LEAST 100 proof to burn. I wouldn't even attempt running an engine on less than 75% pure alcohol.

Probably the ethanol content of Vodka is too low! It's normally 40% ethanol by volume. It'll probably run well on moonshine 85% or above!

This is exactly the issue. This UA-camr obviously has no idea about how alcohol is made and bottled nor about how an engine works.

No car will be happy with that and he will be lucky if he doesn't burn up his fuel pump or cause worse damage to the engine due to Ping aka pre detonation engine knocking. That is the "strange" sound he is hearing.

The takeaway from this is, you can most certainly mix vodka with the little fuel that you have in the tank to maximise your range in case of an emergency.
Yeah, you can mix a lot of things to get you to the gas station. I pissed in the tank a few times back in my partying days, when I drank alcohol it always worked. I tried it once after I quit drinking and when I got home and shut the truck off and it cooled down,it locked up tight as a frogs a**. So lesson learned from experience 😂

It probably dies down because absolut vodka is 40% alcohol by volume, which means that there's 60% water.
Water in the pistons is really really bad, hence why it's a good idea to do this with an old truck. Cool experiment
And since I'm here, I think it's interesting to point out that regular fuel already contains 10% ethanol, which is the same as drinking alcohol. That's why you sometimes see E10 written at the pump, it's because there's 10% ethanol.

Btw guys heres a handy tip i learned growing up with all older vehicles. Once the tank says empty pr its on E, you can usually drive alot of those older cars and trucks for another 50-60 miles before theyll actually run out. They did that on purpose cuz they USED to be cool like that. You know, make things convenient for when you get caught off guard or get stuck in a bad situation. Those days are loooong gone though..

I have an idea that, because it's an old truck and therefore has an old gas tank, when you ran it bone dry, you probably stirred up sludge from the bottom of the tank. I think those old tanks had a filter inside them....replace the filter and retry the test.

Starter is only engaged when starting the motor. Once the engine is running, the starter isn't engaged anymore. How would it be the starter?

I thought it was the starter to because ignitions can get stuck and that's what it sounded like to me, of your ignition works fine then hold it next time you start your vehicle and it will simulate a stuck ignition and that's what it will sound like

There's usually about a gallon or two in the tank reserve and fumes will keep it going quite a long time until you open the fuel cap. So if you have no fuel don't open the Cap until it stops. I've personally converted a car to run on fumes and the mpg is insane. There's videos on UA-cam showing how to do it.👍💚💛❤️
you see you see the computer in that trucks smart enough to adapt to use the vodka the vvti can adjust the engine timing which is why it works as long as the fuel burns the engine computer can adapt to make it run on a fuel if it's possible

Seems to me that due to the vodka having a higher flash point, it works better when you press the accelerator as more air is getting in

Alcohol and water are heavier than petrol, so the small amount of remaining petrol will float on top of the vodka, but once it gets shaking around...😅

Back in the late eighties....while working at an airfield in the UK, we had an ancient small , yellow painted (by hand!)Toyota pickup truck, that was used as the airfield 'hack' for all sorts of maintenance and building work. It was a wreck! After the Avgas fuel samples from the light aircraft had been kept for the required period of time in case they were required to be tested by the CAA in case of any aircraft incidents, we would 'dispose' of the waste Avgas in the pickup truck. It ran for years with zero maintenance and despite running a bit rough, it went like a rocket and never went to a petrol station ever again! I am sure it was eventually killed off, but throughout my time over five or six years, it was still going strong!! 😂
