Adding to the original commenters point, only after the guy Mike Holmes from the old show Holmes like Sherlock Holmes On Homes built and oversaw the building process of a home and this dude tested it out would I buy the home😁
Spot on! I'm a mobile technician in the South and I drive a lot, so I've real-world tested just about every hydrophobic product out there. My personal regimen is Aquapel every 6 months, and keep a bottle of RainX in the back seat. The only issue I have with Aquapel is that if you use your windshield wipers (bugs, excessively heavy rain that overwhelms the product), it actually scratches the Aquapel layer, installing fine linear scratches in the path of the wiper blades over time, which can lead to borderline crippling hazing and glare in some rain conditions. Because Aquapel is a silica-based product that chemically crosslinks to the glass, it has to be mechanically removed before recoating. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and a DA polisher works well for me. In contrast, RainX is a silicone solution emulsified into a wax with an alcohol-based emulsifier. It simply sits on the surface of the glass, and is highly susceptible to heat and mechanical removal (windshield wipers). But it's also dirt cheap and available almost anywhere in North America, and very easy to apply. Sorry for the text wall! I wanted to add some real-world insight that doesn't translate well into laboratory testing. :)
@@davidr.8999 NuFinish does alright, but nothing remarkable. If you use it, give it at least two days in the garage to cure before taking it out in the sun or letting it get wet, and reapply in about a month for best effect. RainX does not play nicely overtop of it, however. It hazed like crazy for me when I tried this combination. I suspect that the alcohol content in RainX interacts with the petroleum-based solvent in NuFinish, but this is only speculation. I've only ever tried the liquid NuFinish product in the upright bottle, not the paste in the tin. I suspect they're more or less the same thing, just different application methods to suit different target demographics.
I was recently marveling at how there are so many UA-cam channels that pump out mindless, low-effort garbage to get views and how you and a few others put in real work for it. Thank you so much for providing this valuable service to us all!
@@ProjectFarm I have been using Rain-X since the late 80s. I live in the wettest place in North America (Vancouver Island), these days I use Rain-X wipers, washer fluid and the coating itself (my channel has a great video of Rain-X in action on Highway #1 out of West Vancouver BC). I average more than 50,000 kilometers a year (more 3x the national average), being able to see in all weather conditions is critical. The top 3, I have never seen in Canada, Rain-X I can buy anywhere. Walmart, CDN Tire, etc.
I’ve yet to find one that lasts longer than a year. Granted I live in the southwest and I park outside AND I live down miles of dirt road…. So I’m kind of in the worst case scenario for headlights (glass or plastic)
Headlight restore kits are kind of like box dinners or ready-made, you can do it that way and sometimes it works, or you can go back get the spin polish with the plastic polish and do it through analog ways and means. I use a buffer and polish them clear before they get too bad. There is always replacement lamps that are generally affordable and worth it because they are a safety item. Also if you don't have to remove the bumper and the whole front end of the car just to replace the lamps. Results vary.
Sweet Project Cars channel RAVES about using a dewalt grinder with wool pad to clear the headlights. I don’t remember what product they used; but rhey have at least two or three videos showing literally start to finish within 2-3 minutes of amazing clarity, and then protect it with 303 protectant product (used for boats, RV’s, grills and outdoor equipment.). They are like this guy: no non-sense only showing what works based on results
I love that rain x is really just that good despite the fact it's so well known. It's not just the name you are buying, it's the proven track history and reputation too!
Check out reviews of Turtle Wax products for the painted bits of your car. Most reviewers were amazed that Dad's/Grandpa's brand worked so well. And is one of the least expensive on the market.
I can not even imagine the amount of money you are turning down to keep this channel unbiased and objective. I also cannot imagine how much money and hassle with terrible products you have saved countless people like myself. I can't thank you enough for investing your own time and money toward these well designed tests!
I used Rain-X back in 1972 on a tractor. The day after using it I hit a major water puddle that completely covered the windshield. I thought I was going to be blind to the road but the Rain-X drained the water immediately and made a believer out of me. Been using it ever since.
How about that, about when they started production. I’ve been using it for 48yrs because I found it in a Porsche magazine. I’ll agree, it is great stuff.
One time on the road my wiper motor stopped working in steady rain. At the next truck stop I bought and applied RainX for the first time because I had no other options to be able to keep going. We then drove the next 200 miles all the way home in steady rain without any visibility problems at all! Go RainX!!!!
While I completely agree, I can't really see why a regular product review channel would have politics in it to begin with? Like, aside from forcing in some environmental concerns in here and there what could you possibly use as a segue?
@@squidikkaLook around, everyone seems to have a say about politics and aren’t afraid to speak 🗣️ up about their own brand of politics 🎉 Moreover, the comment section of any video is fair game to bring up politics. The lesson to learn is don’t talk about politics or religion in the public sector in mixed company. 🎉
This is the only channel I have ever 'joined' with a monthly paid membership. What you don't realise is comparisons like this one not only save consumers money, this one could save lives. So I have a follow-up test to propose. Car de-mister, I often get in the car and the inside of the car is all misted up. Yes, I can turn on the blowers full whack to try and clear it, but we humans are impatient... so others like me, will start driving before visibility is perfect. What de-mister products should we be putting on the inside of our car windows to improve visibility right from the get-go?
I work as a roadside mechanic in the Netherlands and RainX we use to help people drive to the garage in raining weather when the windscreen wipers don’t work.
This gentleman is like a one man Consumer Reports…Only Better! His methods are What many of us have thought over the years to do except he did it and did it better! Brilliant! His process is simple understandable helpful, and demonstrable. Not merely take my word for it. This is the best he’s really earned his niche as a UA-cam product demonstrator & expert!
Hell of a lot cheaper to watch his channel than having to subscribe to a magazine. And on top of that real world test on products that I have all over the house and garage.
I’ve been using RainX for 25+ years and I use it not only on the windshield but all my car windows. It drastically improves the visibility. Thank you for confirming that this is a great product.
I have used rain X since it appeared on the market, used it on autos and boat glass. It works fantastic and will continue to use it over these other more expensive brands
1) It works. 2) Been around for eons. 3) available literally everywhere. 4) Can be applied in several coats for increased effectiveness ( I normally do double coatings, depending on time of year and weather conditions). 5) Not difficult to remove.
The problem with these products are mist forming on the glass if your car is parked outside overnight. A real problem if you applied it to your side glass which can not be cleaned with wipers.
@@Deontjie I feel like that is really not the biggest issue. If it isn't actively raining, you can manually wipe them off, roll down the side windows (which sometimes wipes them off), or wait for wind resistance to kick in while driving. The only water you should worry about is the kind coming down or actively condensing.
You're the best, dude! Thanks for making these videos, they're really the best side by side unbiased videos for the most commonly compared items that we all use in our daily lives! You've single handedly saved consumers millions of dollars in trial and error spending, there's no doubt!
@@ProjectFarm I absolutely agree and want you to know ditto to the comment above, thank you for saving thousands and thousands of people who knows how much time and money. Thank you for taking such a scientific approach to tests and for your unbiased approach and take
Thanks for eliminating company propaganda and BS. I bet there are a lot of businesses that hope you never get your hands on their products but I’m glad you’re keeping them honest. Thanks for all you do👍
Rain X is a fantastic product. I use all of the time and one day while driving, a heavy rain downpour was in my path, so I kept driving. No windshield wipers were used as the Rain X kept my windshield clear and no vision problems with staying on the road. The Rain X I used then was 3 years old at the time and preformed perfectly. As far as I know, Rain X does not have a shelf life. 🚘 GOTTA GET YOU SOME ! ! ! ! 🚘
Thanks for posting that, I applied rainX this past winter, thinking I don’t ne😢rainX washer fluid, but I’ll try the rainX fluid in addition to the application
Rain-X is an absolute life saver. It's amazing that as ubiquitous as it's use is, they haven't sold out their customers by chasing profits and continue to consistently provide a top quality product. Thanks for all you do Todd.
You're right, at this point they could have made a cheaper formula, cut corners, and raised prices, but Rain X has been cheap and useful for my entire life as my dad taught me how to use it during car maintenance pretty early on.
I like to imagine there's some old timer on the board of directors at Rain-X who flips out any time someone suggests changing the formula or raising the prices.
@@armchairgeneralissimo God I hope so, I remember reading once that one of the execs at Costco said something to the effect of I will fucking kill you to the suggestion of raising the price for the hotdog combo. Only problem is what happens when that old timer kicks the can. 😱
@@ShadowSnowLeopard95 It was one of the founders of Costco who said that to the guy who is the CEO today. Looks like the lesson stuck as the hot dog combo price still hasn't gone up, let's hope that works at Rain-X
Rain-X has been my go to for auto windows since I started driving in the mid 90s. I've used it on every vehicle I've ever owned. It's price/performance ratio has always been excellent.
It's even more convenient to just pour the Rain-X brand washer fluid in your vehicle, and then just give your window a shot of windshield cleaner fluid when it starts raining. I've been doing this for almost a decade and it works perfectly
@@Steven-gv1ke I was skeptical of the Rain-X washer fluid being able to add any water repellent properties but I was pleasantly surprised. Its not as good as applying regular Rain-X but its a noticeable difference coming from normal windshield washer fluid.
As a Floridian, a Hydrophobic treatment is a MUST. For a solid month after application, I don't need to use my wipers when it is storming. Highway driving in a storm is made so much safer with it. I recommend putting it on the front and back windshields. I also put some on the back passenger window for over-the-shoulder-checking of my blind-spots (that's not necessary though).
Running a car wash chain for 20 years, we used rain X. It will also remove paint transfer onto your car from garage walls, parking posts, and from other cars paint(door dings, scuffs). Great product. 🛠️
You, Sir, are a one-man "Consumer Reports" guru! About 20 years ago I was travelling on I-95 in Florida during a heavy thunderstorm and my driver side windshield wiper arm/blade blew off completely. Were it not for Rain-X already applied I would have been totally blind and could not continue. Great product! Thanks for your consumer products reviews.
About 20 years ago I was traveling on I-95 in Florida during a heavy thunderstorm and my windshield was pierced by an airborne windshield wiper arm/blade.
@@viktorakhmedov3442 About 20 years ago a guy I knew from the 'Nam (82nd Airborne, as a matter of fact) was doing a HALO over I-95 in Florida, and if it wasn't for the Rain-X (but it was called Glass Unelko back then but we can't say that anymore or someone might get triggered) on his goggles, the water vapor in one of the thunderclouds he dropped through would have blinded him and he'd have never seen that wiper blade headed straight for his skull at about Mach 2 or so, and not been able to dodge it just in the nick of time. Thanks to the Rain-X on his Super-8 helmet cam lens, he was able to prove it or we'd never have believed it. Rain-X saves lives, brother.
about 20 years ago I was traveling on I-95 in Florida during a heavy thunderstorm and I saw some guy's windshield get pierced by a windshield wiper arm/blade, craziest thing I ever did see
Don't care, this IS the best UA-cam channel ever. No filler, just killer product info with none of the crap others put in to fill in time. Been a Subscriber since Feb 2018 & have never missed a video yet, even if that product isn't for me.. Specially being in Australia & many products tested aren't available here.
I've been using Rain-X for over 2 decades now. When I lived in Florida the micro-downpours could rob any visibility on a highway at highway speed and at that speed the Rain-X would clear it before I could get to my windshield wiper controls. When they came out with their washer fluid, I started using that to keep the treatment fresh. Now that I'm living in the Pacific North West this treatment is critical. Not only does it help with the constant rain, but when we get an overnight freeze just one hit to the glass causes the ice sheet to crack and easily slide off the windshield, although for a light frost it's a little harder because of all the tiny ice bubbles. This video was great because now I know there are options which last longer - Rain-X tends to wear out before the rainy season is over. A tip (and maybe a presentation) is treating wiper blades. When I wash my windshield, I clean & treat my wiper blades with Armor All. There are a couple other rubber treatments out there but the combination of Rain-X and Armor All makes clearing a windshield in even the hardest rains easy.
Another fantastic comparison. Been using Rain-X religiously since the 1980s. First thing i do when I buy a new car is apply it, and reapply maybe once a year. One time I forgot to on a new Explorer. Got caught in a heavy rainstorm on a roadtrip and couldn't see a thing. Had to stop at a Walmart to pick some up. Applied it under cover at the nearest gas station and all was well. You don't even have to use the wipers most of the time - the water just beads up and rolls or flies off. The original and still one of the best. Can't beat it for the price.
I too have used Rain-X on every car I own since I first discovered it ages ago. I love the stuff, it makes a huge difference in the rain and general cleanliness of the glass. However, I use it on all my exterior glass, even the mirrors. Rain-X makes it easier to keep the glass clean. Also, if you live where it snows a lot or you frost/frozen water on the glass, it makes it much easier to remove.
@@hammondeggs3356 Oh for sure. Not just for use on the windshield. Using on all windows keeps them clean and clear. I’ve never had any water spotting on any vehicle I’ve ever had after using Rain-X.
can confirm with how quickly it can be applied. I use the original in the pump spray bottle. in a pinch, I've even applied liberally without cleaning the window first and then immediately wiped and buffed it dry. worked perfectly and got me through a storm surge that produced a few tornadoes. no change you can see through rain like that without it. the next day, however, I had to redo the windshield cause all the flaws shined through 😂
I went on a trip from ohio to Florida and it rained thru every state until the Florida line. I had put on a coat of Rain X before leaving ohio and I literally did not use the wipers the entire time, it’s amazing stuff and one bottle can last for many years of applications
i work for safelite and him pulling out our product was a flashbang lol i recommend buying and applying yourself tho, seen a lot of my coworkers halfass the application (if they apply it at all)
Thing is you used the G5 the best one is the G1. G1 you have to apply 3 times first one in circular movement. Then let wait 5 minutes then apply next generous coating but in horizontal movement then let cure for 5 minutes then last one in vertical movement and let wait for 15 minutes then wipe away the residue and apply 3 coatings to the windshield wipers as well. Would have been cool to have seen there top seller and rain repellent used in this review. But great review all around!
Thanks for all your tireless work, and non biased tests man! For the past 5 years about anything i buy i go back and check your reviews! Keep it up man
i never commented, but i wanted to say what i really love with your test is that you comment and explain how to use the product,n according to the manual, so anyone taht say you didn't apply the product fairly have to remember that you followed the manufacturer instruction! also nice that you put a knockoff brand in the spotlight to remind everyone that they are cheaper for a reason .
I’m using ultra glaco made by the same company (Soft99) for years. Easy to apply and by my experience this product is the least susceptible to wiper chatter. Tried gyeon, gtechniq and some other products including noname brands, but every single one made my wiper blades chatter which is extremely obnoxious
I've been using Aquapel for years. Aside from it being a bit of a pain to apply and get the windshield clear, it works great. It lasts 3-6 months depending on the conditions it faces and I don't have to use windshield wipers in the rain. I actually haven't turned on windshield wipers in years.
I usually get 6mo of great functionality of it with aquapel in WI, and then an additional 6mo of alright performance, and then every year after that it's still better than having never applied it but definitely diminished.
@@williamschroeder3070 there is zero haze if it's fully buffed off in time. It really doesn't need to sit on glass long at all, and if the windshield was warm or hot already it really decreases working time / makes it harder to buff off.
I'm so glad rain-x did well. I find it very interesting that there either isn't a huge improvement over time or rain-x is continuing to improve their product, either way, I'm glad I've been supporting them for so long
I’ve only ever used Rain-X. I absolutely love it! It makes the windshield so clear and driving at night in the rain is just as clear as driving during the day on a sunny day.
Before I watched the video I thought to myself I may be switching from rain x. After watching I’m glad to say I will continue to use rain x due to its price, time to apply, and resistance it has against the elements I never thought could affect it. Thank you once again to the real Science guy for giving us the best in entertainment and teachings you provide to the community
@@ProjectFarm you're legitimately the absolute [censored] best, bro. Although, not all of your videos will be having me decide what item to buy. It is great for you to be testing the way you do. I honestly appreciate it.i learned something new from this publish. Once again. Thanks!
I have always sworn by Rain X, I often find on the motorway that I have better visibility letting the water bead up instead of using my wipers. In case anyone is interested in how I make it last for months and months: 1. Clean the window with a wet synthetic chamois, and dry it with a microfibre towel. 2. Use RainX window cleaner to clean the window again (spray on the window and wipe clean with a microfibre towel). 3. apply RainX repellant with a microfibre towel. 4. buff the repellant off with a dry microfibre towel 5. repeat steps 3 and 4 (second coat). 6. top up your windscreen fluid with the RainX fluid (following the diluting instructions on the bottle).
Rain-X sells washer fluids. I've found that my Rain-X applications last a lot longer if I use their washer fluids; they do seem to replenish the treatment. And they don't cost that much more than regular fluid.
Nice job! I've been a user of Rain-X since around '85. I have found the best application technique for great long lasting results is slightly different that the one you did. 1st, I clean the glass much like you did. Then I apply product directly to the glass using a mixture of swirls, back and forth and up and down strokes. I proceed all the way around the car, so by the time I get back to where I started, that 1st piece is thoroughly dry. Then I apply a 2nd coat the exact same way. Next I spray a very scant amount of fine mist water to the glass and rub firmly with a dry towel. Lastly I polish the dry glass with a dry microfiber cloth until it's extremely slippery. DONE! Lasts easily 6 months, but you can get more like a year out of it if you also use the Rain-X windshield washer in the car. Thanks Todd, looking forward to your next report.
I recently resealed my windows and tried something new. At the beginning of the video you can see the product "SOFT99 Glaco Glass Compound Roll On" which is a kind of simple glass polish, I cleaned the glass and then used SOFT99 to really remove all the impurities, then cleaned it again and then applied the Rain Repellent. In any case, I'm curious to see whether this method turns out to be better. So far I've driven once in light rain and the result was very good, the windows started to get clean over 60km/h. Info on the side: I used something other than Rain-X, it's from LICARGO, it got good reviews in many tests and I wanted to try it out myself, I think it's only available in Germany, and of course I bought it a few days before this video came out, i also have RainX at home, which I'm happy with :)
So glad you included Aquapel in this video. When I used to work in an auto glass shop, that was the one and only add-on we sold, and I can't recall anyone ever coming back because they were disappointed with the product.
Also glad he included the Aquapel 'knockoff' - I fell for that scam product from Amazon trying to save money. As proven, it is NOTHING at all like the (originally PPG) Aquapel product.
Been using rain x for over 35 years and very satisfied with the product. Some of the other products tested were a little better than rain x, but I can’t justify the additional cost. My way is applying a coat of rain x every 2 weeks to maintain the water repellency. It takes about 10 minutes from start to finish each time I apply it.
I used Aquapel for the first time 6 months ago after testing other products. It's still working for me. I bought a 4 pack on amazon for $30. It's totally worth it.
@@ProjectFarmexcellent, you know I'm going to love it because Rain-X is life, it's all over everything transparent that I own. Even the bathroom mirror. Haha OCD.
HAHAHA It was only a couple of years before that, I first heard about this new "Mobil One SYNTHETIC OIL"! I lost my shit when I saw the price (I'll never forget it) $3.19 qt (in about 1987)! I tried it in a Baja Bug that got a LOT of use on the backroads of Ft. Bragg, NC. I never used anything else after that. Kept that aluminum (aluminium ;-) VW Case clean as a whistle.
I've been using RainX for more than 10 years and it just works, easy to apply and very cheap. For a rainy season with 2-4x of rains per week the RainX would last 7-10 days, so I just re-apply it every 2 weeks.
RainX is great in the winter too. I came out of work after freezing rain and there was a bunch of tiny frozen dots on my windshield I could see through while everyone else had to remove 1/8inch of solid ice.
For the price and finding at gas stations n such n a pinch, and for always bailing me and others out even in heavy downpours across this country side rain x will always have their loyalist like me when in that pinch on the road and the windshield wipers are of no help or not working at all we're reaching for it
OMG, luckily I had some of the orange defrost rainx in my car before it got shipped to Germany. I had never really lived in snow being from Florida, but had put some of this in my reservoir before getting it shipped.... It was hilarious watching everyone trying to scrape and deice their windshield and all I had to do was turn on my wipers and the whole sheet of snow and ice would fall off.
Started using Rain-X 30+ years ago when I started driving, always loved being able to go drive at speed in a good rainstorm and not need wipers. These days I still do Rain-X, but without the manual application. Rain-X washer fluid and Rain-X wipers, great combination that keeps the repellency going. If it seems to wear off a bit, give the glass a super good cleaning, then use sprayer and wipers for ~10 second several times. All done.
Such an amazing channel. And video. The amount of comparisons is like no one else. And the way you can put so much information in such a quick fast video is amazing. The amount of information in this video would take the average person over an hour to do this. You’re the best in the game hands down. Thanks for what you do
I had applied Rain-X to the inside of the window on my old car. When the mirror fell off, I cleaned the area and applied more Rain-X. I bought some mirror glue, then stuck up the mirror holder. It would not say stuck. The people at Rain-X said it was impossible to remove and would have to be abraided off. I scraped the area with sand paper and the holder stuck just fine. Glad it was an old car.
Thank you Todd! This was a homerun topic for sure! I'll stay with the rest of my RainX bottle for now with good faith thanks to you. We all cannot thank you enough for your excellence & energy!
Few years ago I bought a ceramic coating for my car, about $40 for a bottle. Did the entire car, including the windows. Never gave it a thought until seeing this video - rain would come off the windshield like it was running from the law with the ceramic coating on there. Lasted for about six months, then time to wash the car again and put the coating back on. It also made surfaces extremely slick.
It's spring and my windshield is already covered in bugs so I'm stuck this weekend scrubbing them off. Hopefully next weekend I'll suffer less, thanks for the video! Would love to see a video comparing spice blenders/coffee grinders
During love bug season (small black bug in swarms ) , I spray pledge furniture polish on the front of my vehicle bumper, grille, & windshield to make removing the bugs easier . When i get home and wash my vehicle , soap & water washes both the pledge and bugs off .
It amazed me when I see so many people without any sort of treatment on their windshield though. It helps with visibility SO much and is so little effort to apply and maintain. Thank you for demonstrating the effect of all these brands. I have been a long time Rain-X user, and it's nice to see it stacks up well against the competition still, and at such a good price. I applied it once when I first got my car and then keep a little mixed into my wiper fluid so it gets reapplied on it's own. Never had to manually reapply it in almost 10 years now
Wow, great test as always. Love your work! I’ve used RAINEX for many decades. It’s not so great at low speed and light drizzle, but at higher speeds and heavier rain- wipers are totally pointless. As a pilot, I even used to lean out the front window in a 737 and apply it before departing, if heading where there was rain. It made a massive difference.
I used to work at a garage in my younger years and I would always push sale Aquapel, I even used it on all my vehicles. Everyone that I sold the service to LOVED it and continued using it throughout there vehicle service life with us. It is an amazing product and improved visibility in heavy down pour. I can cruise down the interstate going 60 and never turned on the wipers as all the water would just run off the top windshield being pushed by the wind at speed.
Your testing and channel is the best. I very much appreciate all the time and work this takes. The amount of condensing you do to make this clear and concise is incredible. Thank you.
I would like to add a +1 to this. Every time I get a notification that Todd has another review up, I try to imagine what it could possibly be, and what the metrics are. My imagination is just not that fecund, I guess, so I rely on others. And the only thing more impressive than his tests is the fact that he replies to everyone.
I’ve used RainX forever, but as soon as they came out with the windshield washer fluid version I switched to that because every time I use the squirter, it refreshes the coating and it works great.. Doesn’t necessarily help with the side windows, but it’s really the front and back that are the most important to me.
Same here. I was introduced to RainX in the 1980s. Definitely a useful product. But recently, I switched to the RainX washer fluid, because I'm lazy. 😛
Only problem is you'll end up spraying it on the windshield and probably sealing misc. crap under it. A Spring and pre-Winter PMCS of 15 mins isn't too time consuming.
Thanks for doing this video. I remember requesting it a while back and I really appreciate you doing it, as well as testing all the brands and more that I had asked for. Great review!
Ever since I started using rain-x windshield fluid, or just rain-X windshield fluid additives, I never go back to the old ways of applying products on the windshield. Just spray the fluid from inside the car and use wiper to apply it. Doesn’t last as long, but works closely as good and doesn’t take that much effort.
I have been saying it over and over for so long now, this channel is priceless. I am not American, I don't live in America, and none of those products are available in my market, but this guy is doing an amazing job in reviewing products unbiasedly, the methods he uses and the test techniques I haven't seen anyone come even close. Now we are having some new channels that are taking the same approach, but their integrity is questionable
I love the speed of these videos. Other videos would compare two products with very little data and some bias in the time it took you to review 10! Marvelous work!
I used RainX for many years. I also used it on my work van. I noticed that the wiper blades began to deteriorate. I put in a request for my boss to get replacements, and she did. I washed the windshield, re-applied the RainX and put on the new blades. Within a month the blades were leaving arcs of untouched glass and becoming useless. I had the blades replaced again, I did a wash of the van and a deep cleaning of all the glass. But I forgot to re apply the RainX. The wipers were still good a year later. On a random whim, I bought RainX and applied it. The wipers failed within a month. I think the RainX is deteriorating the wiper blades. Granted, after first applying RainX, you don't need wipers in heavy rain as long as you're over 30 to 40 Mph. But in misty/sprinkles and city traffic. The water beads up into a hazy film that must be wiped off. With bad wipers, that gets streaky. Anyone else noticing that wiper blades deteriorate quickly when water repellents are used? Idea for video: Testing various brands of wiper blades. Single vs dual blades. Beam vs pivoting frames. Trico, Michelin, RainX, Scrubblade (I use Scrubblade. They are dual blade. I get them at Love's truck stops)
I've noticed the same issue with the RainX forming a haze in misting rain. It really impairs visibility which is why I watched this video, to see if there was a better alternative. I'm also using RainX wipers so it's no surprise they are holding up well. That's really bad if the product is degrading other wipers. It would be interesting to know if the others do as well but that kind of long term real world test would be so hard to do.
I swear by Aquapel and used to sell it. They used it on the space shuttle or something like that. It lasted over 2 years on my own cars. I only stopped selling it because of the copies. People thought they were getting it cheaper so bought the knock-off. They were so disappointed by the results and thought that Aquapel was a bad product. It became so hard to buy genuine Aquapel that I just stopped selling it.

Its hard to be the OG. Many have tried, but it still the best from the east to the west. Rain X for the win. I was driving family back from Minnesota to Chicago and all the cars on the freeway had stopped and pulled over. I had Rain X on my wife car and drove right on through that storm only to be pulled over by a sheriff deputy. He ask me why was I still able to drive when other cars have pulled over. I told him about the Rain X. Lucky for me he got a call about a crash and let me go.
@@Bobo-ox7fj That makes zero difference. Quota or not it’s not a crime. If a ticket hungry cop pulls you over for that. Start recording, and sit quietly. Based on the outcome Sue, settle, smile.
Rain-X is my automatic choice. Have used it for approx 30 years. My scientific test is heavy rain and at least 40mph. I also apply it to our bathroom mirror to prevent fogging. One application lasts for many months. 😊
For future tests of these products ... My biggest problem with using Rain-X (haven't used any of the others) has been that it produces a haze behind the wipers when I'm dealing with anything less than a significant rain. It takes a second or two for the haze to clear, just in time for the next swipe of the wiper. The irony, of course, is that it ends up negatively impacting visibility when dealing with a light rain. I've experienced the same effect on a few different cars and light trucks; so I've sworn off using it. If anyone can come up with a good test for that problem, I'm sure the team at Project Farm can! Thanks, as always, for your excellent content.
How do you apply it? Don’t spray directly on the glass. Make sure you polish the crap out of it with a clean cloth and not the paper towels. I use old hand towels and works like a charm
Same thing happened to me, and because of that I never use it on the front windscreen. I still use it on my side and rear windows, water just beads off making it much easier to look out the side windows for traffic.
Same here. These products are great--nearly magical--in heavy rain if the coating is well maintained. In light mist at night, I'll take sheeting action, thank you very much.
I wasn't aware of the other products besides Rain-X; that said, and after watching this review, I think I'll continue with Rain-X. It works so well that it should be required equipment on all cars! Thanks so much for your time and efforts when you test these products for us.
I used Rain-x for the first time after watching this demo. Decontaminated the glass 1st. Put 2 coats as per instructions. Dried to haze and wiped and wiped and wiped. It was difficult to get the haze off. Next time I will try a product that easier to apply
@@DzeiEidz it's worked pretty good for me so far. One application usually works good, but sometimes I've had to use two applications depending on the windshield.

@@CoronadoBruin"unfortinately the overworked housewife didn't survive the wear and tear test".
That's awesome information. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the input. What do you think of NuFinish on the windshield?
Thanks for sharing!
Rain-X smells like alcohol, use vodka instead 😂

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks and you are welcome! Thanks for sharing.
That is how I apply it too. I don't get 6 months out of it, but for the first month, its incredible.
So glad you included Aquapel in this video. When I used to work in an auto glass shop, that was the one and only add-on we sold, and I can't recall anyone ever coming back because they were disappointed with the product.
Thanks!
I've used Aquapel for 20 years now and it has never let me down.
Thanks for the feedback.
I used Aquapel for the first time 6 months ago after testing other products. It's still working for me. I bought a 4 pack on amazon for $30. It's totally worth it.
Thanks for sharing!
This is the one... I first used this in 1989 and before that McGuire's glass wax. Can't live without it.
You’re first! Hope you enjoy the video!
@@ProjectFarmexcellent, you know I'm going to love it because Rain-X is life, it's all over everything transparent that I own. Even the bathroom mirror. Haha OCD.
@@JSFGuyI do the same thing
HAHAHA It was only a couple of years before that, I first heard about this new "Mobil One SYNTHETIC OIL"! I lost my shit when I saw the price (I'll never forget it) $3.19 qt (in about 1987)! I tried it in a Baja Bug that got a LOT of use on the backroads of Ft. Bragg, NC. I never used anything else after that. Kept that aluminum (aluminium ;-) VW Case clean as a whistle.
@@jroenker1 🤭
Companies should take note of your tests... Your tests is of real world applications by everyday users... Nicely done... =)
Thanks!
I think you mean, "very impressive!".
Thank you for sharing!
Also if you're in the highway and a truck throws up slushy snow on your windshield when it passes you, it doesn't stick.
Yeah, similar experience here, too. I use THAT effect more than the actual rain water repellent.
Been using Aquapel for years, it's amazing stuff. Hard to apply, but it lasts an insanely long time.
Thanks for the feedback.
All done.
Thanks for sharing.
Yes. I use the rainx fluid and from time to time I put some rainx on the windshield.I find it for almost free at garage/estate sales.
Thanks for sharing!
Why would you apply Rain-X to the INSIDE of your window to begin with?
@@alexcallas8222 to see if sandpapering afterwards would make his thingamajig work of course.
@@alexcallas8222Maybe to act as a mild anti-fog coating?
Bad to put on inside glass. It says not too as well. You will be sorry. It hazes and takes for to get off.
Thank you Todd! This was a homerun topic for sure! I'll stay with the rest of my RainX bottle for now with good faith thanks to you. We all cannot thank you enough for your excellence & energy!
You are welcome!
Thanks for sharing.
@@ProjectFarm Would be interested in seeing ceramic coatings like Diamond Fusion. Thanks for your testing.
Sorry, missed the part where you said Gyeon was ceramic
It's spring and my windshield is already covered in bugs so I'm stuck this weekend scrubbing them off. Hopefully next weekend I'll suffer less, thanks for the video!
Would love to see a video comparing spice blenders/coffee grinders
Thank you for the video idea!
To help clean the bugs easily with cleaner, use a Dobie pad found in the home cleaning section. Safe for glass and paint. 🛠️
Never had to manually reapply it in almost 10 years now
You are welcome!
As always, PF delivers probably the best review of this type of product on YT. Thanks for all your continued hard work!
Thanks and you are welcome!
Thanks and you are welcome! Thanks for sharing.
Todd, This was just one more in a series of outstanding tests.
Your enthusiasm is admirable! I enjoy watching even when I have no need for the item.
Thanks so much!
Rain-X has not failed me in +30 years. Not going to change.
Great product indeed!
Exactly. If it ain't broke, dont fix it.
K. good for you.
& 50% cheaper
I have to agree. Rain-X has made driving easier many many times in a downpour
Rain X user for many years. Works really well and very easy to apply. Thank you for you review!
You are welcome!
Thanks for sharing!
Your testing and channel is the best.
I very much appreciate all the time and work this takes.
The amount of condensing you do to make this clear and concise is incredible.
Thank you.
Thanks and you are welcome!
The tests you come up with are so varied and imaginative. Very impressive!
Thank you for sharing!
I've been using rainX since I first had a car. worth every penny.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this, I've been looking for a comparison of these products for a long time.
Thanks for doing this video. I remember requesting it a while back and I really appreciate you doing it, as well as testing all the brands and more that I had asked for. Great review!
You are welcome! Thanks for supporting the channel! I really appreciate it!
This gums up washer nozzles on euro cars, so it's not good for everyone. It does work tho
@@lolman123401 I drove JP car. Not sure about EU cars.
It doesn’t left a thin firm on the area where the wipers cannot reach.
I Ran only rain whinter blend in a Subaru for 12 years 0 issues. Been runing the same stuff in my 21 Subaru 0 issues.
I’ve been using Rain-X since 1991. I think I will stick with it.
Thanks for the feedback.
Love the RainX! Been using it for years.
Awesome test and results! Love the channel ❤
I won’t even go out on a date until Projet Farm reviews her first. Another outstanding test ! Cheers from Ottawa Canada. 😀
Glad to see that Rain X provides the best bang for the buck, since that's the product I've always used.
Thank you!
I'll pay a little more to have to apply one less often.
Thanks!
I love the speed of these videos. Other videos would compare two products with very little data and some bias in the time it took you to review 10! Marvelous work!
Thanks!
This will be so so so helpful since it is still rainy where I live. Thank you for making such useful videos.
You are welcome! Thank you!!
RainX for me is hands down the best, a few finished ahead but for only slight differences in performance
Thanks for the feedback.
What an amazing comprehensive test . Very well done!
Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for the feedback.
Awesome video as usual. Keep them coming. I’ve been using wax on my windshield since I was young. Seems to work pretty good.
Thanks! Thanks for the feedback.

Why lucky for you. Driving while others are pulled over in rain is not a crime.
@@Bobo-ox7fj That makes zero difference. Quota or not it’s not a crime. If a ticket hungry cop pulls you over for that. Start recording, and sit quietly. Based on the outcome Sue, settle, smile.

Rain-X is my automatic
choice. Have used it for
approx 30 years. My scientific test is heavy rain and at least 40mph. I also apply it to our bathroom mirror to prevent fogging. One application lasts for many months. 😊
Thanks for the feedback.
You are welcome! Thanks for the suggestion.
