AutoZone Tint 9 Months Later! - ua-cam.com/video/J8-h3C-Zcz0/v-deo.html
This video mentions that you will leave an Amazon link to a film that's good to use as practice. What film is that?
TintStuff Thank you, Seth! 🙏
Hi! What percent 0% was this tint??
I am a 32 year old mom and applied 35% gila tint to my windows perfect with no experience using this video after 2 fails. The solution was running low so i added some water and it still worked like a charm. Thank you so much!
👏
Single mom? 😂
Bought this film in a pinch and installed with that same kit. 2 years later still looks awesome. Watched this dudes tutorials like 20 times and had to mix my own solution. Also had a second squeegee lying around and used a credit card to hold the seal. Done and done! Two front windows tinted for $30.
awesome man. thanks for your comment it gives good reassurance, especially that mention that 2 years later it still looks great
How do you make your own solution?
@@lindahaddon
Fill a spray bottle with some water and add a pinch of some Johnson Baby Shampoo (yellow bottle). Since that was sold out, i used a generic brand and squeezed like a teaspoon in a 64oz spray bottle. Done!
@@Unlmtdprogress I've had this tint on my one car for 3 years and it's been fine
Ive tinted Windows useing ebay tint a credit card a sprayer bottle filed with water lol 10 yrs later still holding

I really appreciate the time this guy takes to walk you through the logistics and explain the little tricks professionals use. Most tint videos make it look so easy, this guy explains why it looks easy even though it is quite possibly the most frustrating DIY project on earth. Keep up the good work.
yea i was thinking of doing this myself but it seems like it requires a little more finesse than im capable of lol.
do you even know what the word logistics means?
@@stevegamer4474 um yeah I do, that's why I was able to properly use it in a sentence... A year ago.
@@bryangedbaw5816 what does it mean?
@@stevegamer4474 are you really asking me why I find it helpful that he lays out the means, methods, and planning involved in achieving a desired outcome? I hope you eventually make it out of your parents basement.
i can already picture the stress i would be going through trying to install these
Latrell Davis haha I just attempted to do mine myself and I think I shaved a few years off my life and have some premature graying hair now
My son and I just did his Honda and if I had a nickel for every cuss word we said! The last window we did was almost perfect but don’t ask me about the other windows lol.
@@rileyspowersports6967 🤣
Honestly, the side windows look simple, I’m picturing the back window with crap access being the pita
It’s not that hard actually
bravo to you. there's another guy who tints windows professionally and his "beginner" video, he made it seem about twice as hard as your video.. so kudos to you
Well this video encouraged me to try to do the window tint on my mud truck. Good thing is it's not a very nice truck and I don't drive it very often. I bought the film from Walmart and our local Walmart sells the install kit too. So I went to do the driver side and I messed up I didn't roll the window down to cut listen turn made a huge gap at the bottom but overall the tent laid really well and no air bubbles so I was okay with that. Knowing what I learned on the driver side I tried to implement that into the passenger side. I made sure everything was extremely clean and I trimmed everything extremely well. I even pulled the door panel off for good measure to make sure that I could get the tent to lay flat on the bottom. I learned something very valuable today. Do not do window tint when there's just a very small amount of wind. I started peeling the backing off getting ready to transition it to the inside when a little bit of wind folded my tent over on itself and I tried to separate it which then made it worse and then I tried to pull it apart even more and it made it even worse so then I took it inside and got it laid out straight and I put it on the window and it fits it's the right size but it's crinkled all to hell and there's lines and air pockets everywhere. The moral of the story is you live and you learn and next time I'll know what not to do. Thanks for this video it was extremely helpful
Thnx 4 the laugh man totally rlate
I’ve been doing it like this for years 💯
Definitely takes time and practice to be able to just use that kit and still come out with a professional look.
I gave it a try on my lexus and it came out really good, I did 5% and it’s awesome!
Step 1 get the 36" × 6' Gila tint. The 24 " won't cover most rear or front windshield.
Step 2 get a 18" extended squeegy to reach behind the rear dash center brake light.
Step 3. If outside use Frog Tape so the wind doesn't screw you up while trace cutting.
Leave the backing on and transfer the tint inside. Frog Tape again inside the windshield. Remove half the backing and wet the windshield, tint sticky side and slide between the windshield and trim.
It's cool, but the tint guy I go to charges $30 a window with lifetime warranty. I'm all about doing things myself, but sometimes we need to own our limitations.
Ernie Keto Fit who’s your guy man gotta let me know
I want to know that guy too
lemme know
To everyone in this thread: literally just go on Craigslist and lookup auto window tint and you’ll probably find a ‘ ‘guy’, if that doesn’t work then go on yelp and call around, a lot of film manufacturers have a lifetime or like 10 year warranty so if they’re an authorized installer just keep the receipt. Ive never paid more than $120 for a full 5 window tint job
@@ripem1417 You've paid for a shitty tint
I’m an AutoZoner so I bought this kit to try to tint my fishbowl of a car with my 20% off :) also pro tip with snap blades: use a pair of needlenose when you break off the edge. Perfectly along the etching every time
I've actually gotten very good results with that tint. Did a mustang and it's still holding 2 years later
I worked for a chain parts store years ago. Bought the kit and tint to for my truck.
Used ammonia free glass cleaner to clean the glass. When I got in a pinch for the application. I used it again. Turned out well.
Removed it about a week later. Wasn’t liking the bluish grey color.
Looked great from the outside though.
I appreciate the fact that you used only what was supplied, and kept your cool, good job man!
Nice job! For most people it’s a fun experiment, but window tint is a special talent. It takes a lot of experience to get it done how you did.
My son and I just did his 2004 Honda Civic and it was a pain in the ass. Would be nice if in these type videos they would explain the importance of handling the tint with extreme caution when transferring from one side to the other. The slightest slip and the film will stick to each other and create crimps when you pull it apart. I highly recommend 2 people handle the film if you don’t know the trick to properly handling and transferring it alone.
Garbage product that needs a professional to make it look good.
I request that you tint a 95 Chevy caprice back window and show your first attempt and I’ll believe your a tint master. Game on. Who else wants to see him do it? Give likes!!!!
I'm sure hes tinted windows a lot more challenging. Look at some of his other vids.
I had a 91..gave the tint guy hell..lmao🤣
I’m down
A 95 caprice is very easy...i had done a couple...i said a 1998 vw beetle back window!...
I’m going to tint my windows myself. I bought autozone window tint for $12.99 each roll and I bought 3 for my coupe. So even if I don’t cut it properly. I’m still going to leave it the way it looks. Either way the tint is still going to do it’s job. I might not be a professional but the tint will be applied and I will save me some money plus I’ll gain some knowledge. Cheers
Used this on my car about 4 years ago on my first attempt on tinting, trying to get the fingers off was a nightmare even with my heat gun.
I ended up just doing my rear corner windows only since my front windows have a big curve to them and i ended up ripping the film while trying to install it. after all these years the tint on the corner windows is still holding up in their
I ironically tinted my windows on my car with the 5% tint and the application kit , but it was 93 degrees outside. It turned out horrible, but I will retry in a cool non breeze area.
But your application turned out great.
Did you try it again
What’s wrong if it’s hot outside?
why did i watch this for entertainment
I appreciate it 😁
@@DetroitTintStudio Ive seen a past video on a sub install or something. You mentioned you tinted for a living. Glad you made a vid showing your trade. You are well spoken and easy on the ears. Your vids dont annoy me like alot of other diy persons videos. Awesome vid!
This dude, I can’t begin to thank you brother I bought this tint thinking it was easy bou was I wrong, this video helped me so much took a lot of patience but I finally got one whole rear window done🤣 ready to do the rest tomorrow
7:52 “what kinda shit is on the glass”😂😂😂 had me dead

Interesting with your Eastman reference as the manufacturer. I live and work just down the street from the Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport TN. Eastman owns alot of manufacturing centers all over the globe but the one in my town is the largest. They make over a hundred different products and is our towns largest employer ( of course lol). The entire complex is MASSIVE! It even has its own powerplant, built just for it's needs.
I learned how to tint on my car and it came out real shitty but since then used this tint for about 8 vehicles and all came out badass with only that kit and another like 4$ kit they also sell, came out good af no creases no dirt under no nothing , I dont see why theirs so much hate, yes it is cheap ass tint but works just ass fine
You look like the cop from superbad
Holy shit he does lmfao😂🤣😂🤣
I used this for my first tint, it went OK. Front windows creased but the color was fine for 7 years even if it was blue on the inside. Their rear window strips were thicker and so much easier to do, and the color was good. I'm going to try tinting my new car with lexen. Same price as Gila but way better film.
How do you know lexen is better film? Would it last longer? easier to apply? or has better color tint?
I've been unable to choose between which film would be better to get to for my windows!! This Gila looks a little too blue
@@lawyerreactsnotthemoon85 It's thicker, easier to work with, doesn't tear or crease easily, has a charcoal color inside and out, and about the same visual acuity.
I just did mine and it’s my first time doing it ! Got to say it’s easy but I’m sure there are easier films to use
I’ve used this kit and tint on 3 vehicles I’ve owned. This last time I shrunk the door windows I was doing and it didn’t turn out terrible but the film is garbage and almost impossible to get a pristine completed job. I call it a “10 footer” lol...it’s good from far, but far from good 😂
I tinted windows with a paper towel wrapped around my fake ID and a spray bottle full of tap water and a few drops of baby shampoo. I remember some film that had what looked like hologram sparkle in it. This was back in the 80's.
This comment right here officer
I hate the thought of a shop removing my door panels and pop things off, then I get squeaking and other sounds I never had before. Plus many of them also cut the film on the window and splice your rubbers around the edges. I just need to find the best film and I'll do my own.
i bought the 5% “Premium” static cling roll from autozone and it looked way too blue even more than the one you installed, and it felt like elastic rubber. gave me a hard time so i threw it away. great work tho i enjoy watching.
The static cling is different from regular automotive tint but I'm surprised all their films are so blue.
I bought some as well. The directions suck and their videos comment sections are turned off. I went looking for tips and left aggravated.
so new york passed a law recently where now during your annual car inspection they check all windows for tint. cars can only legally have the rear windshield tinted (any %), and 6" eyebrow on front windshield (any %). front & rear side windows have to allow 70% light to pass (which basically means no tint allowed). this law passed & went into effect january 2017. i had to remove the 35% tint i had on my car which bummed me out. while i love having tint for lower temps in summer & privacy, i (and i'm sure many others) are not going to bother with removing & reapplying tint every year to pass inspection (the glue left behind by the tint is the real hassle!). found a company like Gila that sells static cling auto tint called greenfilmusa. purchased 20% and installed on all sides, rear & eyebrow. it's unbelievable how well it looks and it has held up the past few months great! would be cool if you did a review on that product. here are a few pictures of without the static cling tint & with: imgur.com/a/mslpcvb
edit - the beauty of static cling tint if it wasn't obvious to someone reading this, is that you can easily remove it, pass inspection with your now see-through windows, and reapply it when you get home in minutes.
I'd still tint mine 5% fuk the laws lol
Love the detail to perfection great job
U worked ur ass off with it actually but u remained really calm which was cool. Good job. It literally just came together rt at the end. Good video.
This is the exact window tint kit I used to put tint on my car over the weekend. I used the multi layer gila tint though. A little higher quality.
When he said “what kinda....Shit is on the glass.”😂☠️
Tinting windows is just like a lot of fun some people just love to do it I mean even if you have to scrape it off once and do it again
Just got my whip tinted 5% in the back and 15% in the front.looks like a different car
Dwight Shrute the Trans Am or Challenger?
thats what im talkin about
ok, so I'm seeing your video on this 10 dollar Auto Zone tint 9 months later, so I'll watch it!
So whats the difference on not heating the tint and heating the tint?
I'm thinking unroll a section and reroll inside out, like a new rug so it lays flat.
The spray is an adhesive it should stay on . I hope. I'm going to try. It's 60 and humid out no sun.
just tinted mine with this although I used soapy water to apply
Nice! That's what I would recommend and it's good to know Gila also recommends it on the box so they don't just try to stick you with their application solution.
Hows it holding up?
@@slicknslidin4124 That's what I wana know RN
Can you make a solution at home with water and dish soap? What would be the ratio of water to soap?
What is the ratio of soap to water?
Man thank you so much for this vid I watched it like 8 times and I can’t believe my results I’ve had 4 shops turn me down because the year of my car. That made me upset so I’ve just saved so much money just by doing it myself with you there with me all along. But I took my windows out the car to do the work inside luckily my rear window was already tinted this was my first time and I feel really good about it I did 20% hopefully I don’t get a ticket but the money I saved will pay for the fine and after that I’ll try 35% because I think that is what is technically the Legal darkest idk I don’t drive this car much at night and during the day you Can see inside from the outside so I think I’ll be ok I just want to say thanks a lot for this Very informative video
I used this film on a car I sold recently. I originally had lumar film and previous owner for some reason did a double film on the drivers side window. I matched it close with this film because I wanted it to look nice for the next owner. I didn’t want to pay for llumarfilm when the car was basically sold, so I used this, and with my tools I had at the house from tinting years ago, I made it look about an 8/10 as far as install went. The tint is most def thin, and color was not as dark smoke but more blue like you said. But I made it work.
I think for people wanting to learn to tint, this is a cheap way to start and if you can do a clean install with this thin film that likes to roll on you, you will feel good about using a high quality film. I’m almost positive this will start to fade in a short amount of time too. It cost me +/- 10$ fo do my window vs 75 which was the cheapest I could find someone to do it.
Excellent video, gonna watch this as I try to apply my auto zone tint film. Thanks
I never use this stuff but I really enjoy watching the videos of it for some reason lol thank you again for your time.
Thanks I appreciate it!
Thank you so much for the reply about my Subaru. I forgot to mention that I love your channel.
The results were pretty good I’m not even gonna lie
its a minor thing but the best way to break those break-away blades is to find a hard ground and snap it on the ground. at least thats what my dad's taught me after 30+ years as a carpenter lol. made everything much easier when we were hanging drywall at my aunts last summer
I had no idea Eastman made film for llumar and suntek, and I live right next to their headquarters. The plant here makes a lot of different raw plastics and fibers so it never crossed my mind. Interesting video!
I bought this tint it is not bad for beginners who want to tint there windows or tint your beater car for cheap and good quality.
The static cling doesnt have the liner does it? I was trying on a throw away piece for a while and finally figured out it didn't have one. They should definitely hire you for their videos. Terrible 3 step directions. Lol
This was really great! Using just the basic kits!
Totally agree with that first sticker…what a pain
Thank you for making me throw away 50$ makin me think I could tint my self really appreciate that
It will work. Just like how hood scoops from autozone works on chevy cavalier.
I’ve seen to many cheap looking tint jobs to even attempt a DIY on this lol
It was like $30. I’m gonna try it today.
Gotta love a guy who swears while makin a youtube video. I just wonder how to tint my fog lights which are round.
Use vinyl film and a heat gun. Takes like 5 minutes.
@@kellypg ok. Thanks
why does no one protect the inside of the doors in all the tint videos ive seen?
I just tinted my first suv with this same exact tint, and kit. I had a heat gun already, anyway….yeah for it being my first tint job I didn’t feel so bad. The tint is vey very flimsy. Is there any tint that you recommend would be of better practice with? Please and thank you for posting these videos they are really helpful and motivating!
FINALLY!!!
This should be the instruction video from Gila, that was simple and made sense. The video they have up now is garbage and they know it, comments are turned off and it isn't crystal clear like this one is. Thank you
I tinted my car in this. Came out decent. I was wondering where would I be able to get a good quality film? As close as professional grade as possible.. thx for the help in advance
Amazon has some. Ceramic tint is the best
i have used this kit before and have had wrinkles get in the tint to were i redo it. so for me personally i remove the glass from the door completely and take the film 1/8 to the edge of the glass that way you don't get daylight if its to short with the rubber seal. I wouldn't recommend this(i have auto body and paint experience so i know how to disassemble the door) but for my personal and family member cars i don't mind doing it takes over 5hrs though and comes out perfect.
Nice vid thanks! Going to try it for my first time. I ordered pre cut pieces off of ebay lol
4:55 wait, it's just held on with static?
9:53 oh, it does have adhesive - ok
what did the quality of the film look like in the sun? I am wondering if it has a bad haze to it like the cheap Wal-Mart Black Magic tint I saw you in stall on your car once. Because I remember that tint having a horrible haze to it.
Great video I finally got it down
I like the black magic tint film video you did were you used the bondo plastic spreader to squeegee the soapy water out from the film. I did the same application as you did but i did the tint install on my bedroom windows a little different than on a car. The only thing it doesn't have are window seals like on the car where you can cut the film slightly larger and tuck it under the window seal to cover any exposing gaps. Doing my room windows i measure the glass and get exact measurements to cut on the film but slightly larger about 1/16'" extra on all sides of the film than install it on the glass and whatever access of film left i cut it as close to the edge of the glass and frame without showing any gaps. i purchased the NT Pro Cutter stainless blade off of ebay to do the job i had one of those plastic tint blades but i wanted to try the stainless blade that you recommended from the black magic tint video. I did one set of windows in 2.5% and the other set in 5%.
Some eBay tint would be cool to see! bought some from there recently just haven’t installed! Would be cool to see your opinions on it
It's definitely on my list! Wanna shoot me a link to the one you ordered? Not sure which route to go yet.
showing it on a side window plus a rear window would be awesome too!
You completely ignored what he said
A little late but i bought ebay precut tint and it’s held up well after 3 months. Not 100% perfect cuts and the bubbles were very hard to get all of them out. Not sure if it’s cause i’m new or because it’s not quality. But all in all it’s worth it
I like your chanel and your videos. I'm going to atempt to tint my windows on my own, i believe i can do it thanks your tips. Thanks bro :) Great content
Well, how did it come out??
How was it?
Are you tinting the outside or inside or both. Looks like you started outside but now your inside.
I’ve used Gila tint many times in the past, till I started using ceramic film,,but that kit sucks as bad as it did years ago, great job making it work..
You make this look easy.
You make it look so easy lol
Why did you break the blade? What was the reason behind that
So does the cut out not need to be perfect before applying? Thank you for this video!
Love this lots of value
Ought this kit today thank you
It actually tells you to install the film on the outside of the glass on the directions on the box for the tint 😂
who is doing the right stuff now? this guy or the box?
This video basically insured me that i need to take my car in to a professional. 😅
Looking for the link to the Amazon tint you recommend
Looks good I am going to try this
Also why didn’t u use the heat gun? Not sure if I missed that but would it be like extra security to still use it , if so at what point would you? thanks!!
Great video Matt!!!
I’d like to see you review motoshield pronano ceramic. The numbers they post look great and it seems affordable I believe 20x100 roll on Amazon is around 200-350 which is pretty cheap for a ceramic film. Thanks!! Great stuff
Just found out you do this for a living I understand now why your so critical of a cheaper diy type
Hey when you talk about a soapy water solution. What kinda soap and to what ratio of soap and water should I use??
J&J baby shampoo works really well. The amount depends on the film. Add about 2 teaspoons to a regular size spray trigger bottle. Or 1oz per gallon of water. The film should slide around a little and tack up in place when you squeegee out the water. You can experiment with small squares of film till you fine tune the amount that is right for you.
I couldn’t do that with all the tools in the world. Yet he did it with a 20$ kit
Amazing tutorial 💯
Thank you brother 🙏👌👍
Shoul I use a heat gun as well with this tint or just install how you did
I'm just wondering why you chose to tint it on the outside???? Never seen that done👀👀👀
You didnt watch the entire vid...
I watched every single video on youtube I think.. The bought film.. and the peeling on it is white. Can't figure out how to cut for rear wibdows since I can't see through it...... sigh.
do you do a piece on the inside and the outside?
Tyler Mount prepare your pattern on the outside and install the film on the inside after removing the release liner.
What is the heat gun for?? What’s the shrinking for?? 🤔
Harbor Freight has a $6 heat gun when on sale.
