I'm an old man, I admit it. I've been playing around with car stereo's since the mid '80s. My first set up involving subwoofers involved 4 12" Rockford's in a box I built for the cargo area of my Eagle Talon. It was truely sweet. But as I got older, I did not need to feel my fillings rattle. I still like to feel a nice boom in my chest though. So, most recently, I went to cruchfield and placed a number of items in my shopping cart for a "budget" system. My JVC Head, 2 JVC 6.75" front doors, 2VC 6.5" rear doors, and the 1.5" tweeters, and the 500 watt boss amp, all together cost $450. So you can see I was trying to save money. But... I could'nt seem to put a bass system together for less than $500. Then I watched this video and thought, what the hell. If it sucks, I'll shoot it with my colt .45 a few times, hang it on the wall, and call it art. Guess what. In my GMC canyon, it sounds really good!! Thanks for the video. And folks. Don't be afraid of using something even when it's not expensive!
yeah for some reason people got it in their heads that if its not thousands of dollars its shit. terrible thought process. i've got a 250 stereo system in my bedroom and i like it more than my friends 1000+ system in his car. all about ballance. its ok if every car within a 500ft radius of the intersection cant hear your shitty taste in music as you put your car in neutral and roll it back so people think its stick. and its ok if you can't flex how expensive it is to your middle class peers because thats all people see in a person anymore (not).

If you want something to numb your chest, a shallow kicker comp r 10 with applicable amplifier. It will run you around $300 and has plenty of bass especially for a truck/cab
The problem people have with these is they don't get very low at all, and they have a lot of distortion. They also have a box that's WAY too small for the subwoofer to play properly. It's just all around not good.
VIEWERS!!!! FOR YOUR SAFETY!! please DO NOT run your power wire through the fender as illustrated in this video. this wire should be ran through a grommet through the firewall for safety reasons. Also, please DO NOT connect power wire to the FUSE BOX terminal, please connect DIRECTLY to your battery positive terminal.. these "flea market" types of installations by unskilled installers are plaguing our industry, i spend 75% of my time at work fixing these types of installations.
Exactly completely agree with you my buddy builds boxes for a living in Florida and this was ridiculous to watch dude could have really hurt his car lol.
I installed this box in my wife's Subaru 3 years ago. Still sounds good. It doesn't shake the car next to you at a light, but it does fill the car with bass that you can feel. I used a high power rca converter with power control to stock receiver. No, it doesn't compare to my 2000 watt system in my El Camino, but for the price, you can't go wrong.
I reckon. Next I think he should do budget performance mods. Although the Hindsight already has the least restrictive intake of any car I've seen measured, so I'll be pissed if he puts a pod on it
Oh, I will admit the whole unscrewing the fender part was crazy. You can typically find something that goes through the firewall that is rubber grommet protected where you can get the wire to feed through.
PLEASE PAY ATTENTION: First of all. Great effort. A+ for trying it yourself and do not want to discourage anyone from DIY BUT: 1. you should always remove the NEGATIVE from the battery terminal before running a wire. (if that + fell to the bodywork... SPARKS!!) 2. That wire is LIVE as he ran it thru the car and could have caused sparks / or even worse a fire. 3 Always run it from the terminal post and NOT the fuse box. 4. Run the wire thru you rubber grommets in the firewall. The door Jam will break the wire and yep, cause a fire. 5. they gave you straps for a reason. use them or you could get hurt from a flying box 6. set gains to prevent blown subs, plenty of vids online
Always remove the negative battery terminal first! You also should have used an existing wiring grommet to feed the power cable through the firewall and not through the fender. And the power wire should be wired directly to the positive battery terminal!
A couple of tips to optimize the sound. If you want to get better sound out of the front speakers install " bass blockers" in the line. They are small capacitors that block lower frequencies at different levels. It allows them to be turned up more without distortion. If you hear a wine in the sub woofer that changes with the speed of the engine then separate the turn on line from the RCA inputs. They are sensitive to inductive pickup noise. I know its not that apparent in subs but that internal crossover is probably only 6 dbs per octive at best 12 which will have some high frequency bleed through.
@@mashedpotatoes5323 its not like there wasnt already over a dozen wires going through the same spot from factory, good enough for them and it lasted that long
I had to do that in my car too. It only has one hole in the firewall and it was on the opposite side of the engine compartment as my battery. Running the wire through the front fender was the only way it would reach
Yea, I thought "what" Too... I've installed a gazillion stereos and never tried that. My wires all go thru the firewall as close to a straight shot from the battery as possible. There is always a way. I've drilled thru and rubber gromitted the hole. I also run all the wires together so it's less tearing of the car/truck apart,, saves time... good job tho it all came togather in the end.
I can't stress this enough: buy used shit. It's gonna break eventually anyway but probably long after warranty. For $70, you can get brand name speakers and box. Pawn shops and Craigslist baby. I bought two MTX 10's in a box perfect for under my z71 and only paid $80. And bought a home modified amp from ebay for $70 that absolutely blows away my previous $200 amp. There really isn't a whole lot to speakers and amps. Shop smart. Wait for all the drug addicts who blew their money on expensive stereo systems to get hard up.
Where I live outrageous audio has a ton of cheap holiday deals. Look up subs online and price check with then. It's hella cheap and you get good quality subs, amps, boxes, etc.
I would never buy used, because I don't trust the people who owned it before to treat it correctly. Who knows how they had the speakers wired up and if they beat on it with an incorrect power rating. People are dumb, some people think Max Watts is what it runs at and have no clue what RMS power is or how Ohms work.
mouthies3 I object two 10 inch kentwood subwoofers with a small basket and only 150 watts split between the two would add just enough that it wouldn’t overcome his doors speakers and tweeters and it would sound nice and clean while still adding just a tiny bit off boom when the bass hits so you can feel the music and it would only cost like 100$ for that kind of set up remember not all subs are made to rattle your doors off lol
I just pulled this same sub out of a truck I just bought. I thought it was pretty decent, but I still upgraded to something better. My only beef with this sub is that there isn't much room for a port, or vent, and it doesnt do low end bass all that well. But it's still worth saving your $70, and waiting till you have atleast $200 and you can get better sound.
1:15 "you don't want your car catching on fire" *laugh* I figured first car 16 yrs old Rob doing a subwoofer install and setting the car on fire. That laugh is from someone that has experienced it
Actually knew a guy back a few years ago who burned his nearly new Scion TC to the ground due to a short in the sub he'd installed. Worse, despite having payments, he'd cancelled his full coverage insurance and only had liability. Dude was screwed so bad, he had ashes and a car payment for the next 5 years.
Thankfully I've never paid it to that extent! Been pretty lucky on stupid taxes. I think I busted a few automatic transmissions when I was younger due to my habit of doing neutral drops to make them burn out. Though nothing I owed money on thankfully. I don't do that any more though. Now I make sure to crank the turbo up enough to ensure burnouts.
I watched your inexpensive radio install and this video and liked them both. Here's a suggestion for your next inexpensive install. Walmart also carries inexpensive "super tweeters". Your car has door mounted speakers like my truck and the sound stage was low and unnatural. If you install a pair of super tweeters that and can be attached to your dash with double-sided tape, it makes a world of difference. The secret is to connect them as your front speakers and your door speakers as your rear speakers so you can use the radio fader to balance the sound between them and the door speakers. You will be amazed at how it brings the voices and highs up to dash level and makes the system sound so much more balanced at very little cost. That's why many car now have tweeters in the dash or top of the door in the ones with better factory systems. Anyway, just a thought.
Astro Builder, i can do that, replace all 6 speakers with a 4x4 grid of mid drivers in each door, some highs in the dash and a 6th order wall with 8 18's in it. you'll be bumpin.
Then I am sure you can answer how to stop my subs from drawing so much off my alternator. Running two 10s (pioneer) with a 1000watt amp. Amp is set to run the lowest cross over and everything so subs wont hit so hard. Still fried alternator, havent used subs in weeks as I am afraid of frying the new one.
you need a high output alt,or a secondary battery and "the big 3". also thats isn't how the crossover works, the crossover only changes your highest sound frequency level(hz). example,I have the amp for my subs to play tones 100hz and below,my amp for my door speakers is set to play 80hz and above. what you may be thinking of is the gain. do a quick search here on how to set amplifier gain.
I bought this sub box combo for my wifes car shes not into huge bass so this unit worked well for low bass notes adds a surround sound type system so for 80 bucks dose the job
this is a cool option for the people who aren't quite ready to get an actual sub and amp but want *something* on a budget (it is really weak just FYI, camera guy was correct)
The only difference between this, and a separate sub and amp is 2 wires, and the amp isn't in the box. You also don't have to wire that stupid harness.
if you buy a shit sub and a bad 300w amp yeah, but my low end 10" on whatever built in amp is in my Logitech home theater system (X-530) blows this thing out of the water. and my cousin's setup which has cost him total about $100-$120 is a 1200w 12" on an 800w amp and makes this little prebuilt one look like a tweeter. bottom line is for a little extra money you can do much better, but this is still a good choice for people who just want to throw a cheap one in their car and be done with it, without worrying about RMS wattage, peak wattage, gain, all that shit you have to start looking into when you get into an actual system. EDIT: it seems like the AMP in my Logitech home theater system is 70 watts, kind of surprising for how much bass it can push through my 10", now i wonder what it can do with a good AMP in a car
BigMan7o0 The home sub is probably highly sensitive. Something like 92db/1w. Also, matching subs and amp are not hard. Gain isn’t even an issue whenever you match RMS. You should also always overpower a little. Crossover is a bigger deal than gain.
GhilleGhille to a certain extent yeah, it really depends on the use case. For something like wanting a massive amount of bass at the highest volume possible, you would really need to pay attention to wattage and shit so you don't blow your sub, and gain would be more of a "do I want/need this for my use case, and why?" Kind of thing, not necessarily a "oh it doesn't have gain 0/10 bad AMP"
Watched this little series, and no criticizing a budget build here, you did great adhering to the theme. If you're a first timer or don't have the money to go all out on a car audio system, this is a genuinely helpful guide to the very basics. This video is not for enthusiasts who have a $2,000 system, it's for a kid or broke person to upgrade from really crap factory audio (no offense, Honda, but those factory speakers were tinny as hell) to something a tier or two up to make their drive more enjoyable.
I think this guy did a GREAT job wiring. Running the wire behind the fender eliminated the need to drill or add holes in the fire wall, and it thoroughly separated the power wire from any other wire to avoid future confusion. I would feel better if it was right on the battery but to each his own. Separating the power wire from the audio wires is also very important, keeps the sound clean. Just dont waste your time with wal mart stuff, well maybe if you have to. I used to get 6x9s there to be honest
He's installing a 70 dollar Subwoofer with built in amplifier, it's obviously an improvement for not much money, I have expensive equipent in my car I wouldn't buy this but it's good enough for most people and not much money anyway so don't be snobs
Would’ve been a much more entertaining video had you taken this sub to a car audio installation company and had them install it! The looks and begging you to upgrade would have been priceless!
I found that funny too. But I shortened the power loop considerably so the gauge of wire will work for higher amps. Not going to lie. I don’t expect that sub to actually be a 300w setup but idk.
That's still pretty cheap...people that deal with car audio know how much it's worth....you see tons of mtx, generic speakers......every now and then you'll see an alpine type R, I've still never seen a type X yet
@@brandonpurple8938 I bought a pair of audio pipe 12s in a box with 2 amps and a cross over for 100 bucks. Ran them hard for a year before they went. Running NVX now on the same soundlabs amp that i bought with the audio pipes. Buddy is running the box now cause i built my own. The second amp (matched set) is in my f250 now on a set of pioneers i got for 100 bucks in the original boxes with a good ported box for an additional 60. Its in the back seat and makes my wipers jump and gets low with no distortion. Just took a few weeks of stalking to find a good deal.
My friend mounted a 15inch sub in his shit Kia Rio. Left the stock speakers too. Was the best playing anything as it added so much bass it shook your soul lol. Radio song, "sweet home Alabama" buuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaammmm, "where the skies are to blue" buuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaammmm. Shit was the best lol.
paul wood massive sub that takes up 3/4 of the truck (his is hatchback too lol) and an android based touchscreen unit in the front. Literally revolutionized the car. It still won't be fast or safe but you'll have more technology than your average living room lol.
Always disconnect you battery negative before your positive and reconnect your positive before negative. If only removing one battery lead make it the negative.
The thing is in the electricity world people think the positive end is where the energy goes out from that's why they'll disconnect the positive instead of negative first when electrons are the particles which move in elevtricity
The reason for removing the negative first, is that if your the spanner you're using to disconnect the battery shorts against the chassis while you're undoing it, it won't explode in a shower of sparks and melt everything.
Wow, this guy is an idiot. Neve let him near any audio equipment of value. Man, please never make a at audio video again. Someone going to catch their car on fire
Some fuse junction boxes actually have a couple of bolts for connecting high power gear. Bolts are directly linked to the 8, 6, or 4 awg wire coming from the battery.
Hey Rob, haters gonna hate no matter what so pay them no mind. I bought the sub on sale for $49.99 plus the wiring kit (should've got the bigger amp kit thou) and I installed my self using your instruct. although I did it a little differently but whatever. The system in my truck sounded pretty weak, 4 3x5 speakers are not a strong setup and it sounded very tinny and weak. After adding this sub it is beyond my expectations, sounds just perfect for me and for under $75 I'm stroked. So thanks for the info bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nicholas Lopes do it bro you won’t go back subs add that little bit extra that normal speakers just don’t have makes the whole stereo better sounding a lot of people think of subs like big rattling shake my damn doors off but there’s a size for every application even if your just looking for some good sounds me on the other hand I enjoy a bass big enough that it shakes my damn review mirror and shit just fun to have and it’s a riot when you got a party in your car or truck
Nicholas Lopes that’s what I’m talking bout fuck dude thanks. I been wondering what I was gonna do with the amp in the back of my suv and after reading this i took off my jack compartment and the amp fits perfectly. So kudos for giving me some help without meaning to.
Jesper Lind I swim across the lake to Canada every single day then back to Michigan you can’t top this probably shouldn’t try reading the whole thing unless you got your endurance training in and you never miss lung day but don’t worry you will get there .....?????!!!!!!!!’’’’’ Put them where you want them😀
As noted below, when I added a Bazooka-style powered tube subwoofer to the trunk of my old Volvo, I connected the power lead directly to the positive terminal of the battery and then through it through a grommet in the firewall. I used that setup for 15 years with no problems and it sounded good. And I was not skilled - the instructions that came with the tube stated to hook the unit up that way.
As a professional installer i can VERY easily say you should not be doing install vids. You did almost everything wrong. From battery disconnect to wire placement & connection. I get you're doing a cheap install but anyone following your instructions is going to destroy equipment.
Except nobody gives a fuck about cheapass stereo gear. You can't do the wiring wrong when you already did the purchasing wrong. However nothing he did is going to destroy anything. The worst he can do is blow a fuse or clip the amplifier and burn a cheap POS sub....but where's your video teaching Walmart shoppers how to do it right?
Joseph B there are some cars where this is not possible without several hours of taking apart the dash. My 07 impala LT has a dual layer firewall that I didn't want to bother with so I ran the power wire for my system in the front fender, through the window wire grommet, and down the paneling into the trunk. It is common practice tongi through the firewall, but it's not a must
My friend has this sub in his truck to just add bass to his bassless stereo in his f250 and for $70 its not bad. Its no audiophiles dream sub but it does add bass when there is none. On another note you DO NOT run the power wire to the fuse box..you attach it to the positive on the battery.
Brisko well bas is omnidirectional which means your ears can't distinguish where it's coming from so doesn't matter where u face it but ussually yes facing it to the back I'd better which is forcing all the bass to simple way of putting it is that it collects and builds up pressure at the back of the car before being bounced up to you at the front of the car it is louder
i can't believe people do this! NEVER CONNECT THE POWER WIRE TO THE FUSE BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why! yfi! the fuse box has fuses of different current levels that will be thrown off by power drain that could fry your computer if wired wrong! when i helped at a certain place, a certian person did the same thing wiring the sub to the fuse box, he shorted a few things, and one was the alternator. here's the problem, it was a 300m, chrysler. just remember one thing, because your sounds cause a energy drain, the power wire must connect to either the battery post (+) or the alternator positive terminal that runs to the battery. you'll learn that either place connects to the batterywith current flowing through and doesn't affect the voltages of the fuse box, which has things like ignition 1, ecu, abs, and many others you don't wanna mess with. SO DONT CONNECT TO THE FUCKING FUSE BOX👿👿👿👿👿👿👿👿👿👿
Install professional here people. Mainly, don't EVER!!! wire an amp to the fuse box EVER!!! The feed to it is gauged exactly for what it's designed to feed, nothing more (especially an amp). It runs straight to the batt anyway. Also, Dual is as garbage as it gets, just don't.
He is an amateur that didn't do his homework before installing. He made the installation more difficult by removing the fender and someone has already covered wiring it to a fuse box. Uggghh...
yjjeeper1 Dual is garbage? How so? Dual has made great hi-fi equipment for many years, don't judge on a low budget product, what can you expect for $70.....
Rob Monaghan I expect garbage not because it's $70 but because it's Dual, hi quality and Dual should never be in the same sentence. They are the only brand around that makes Jenson look like a premium brand. Look, fine if you like your Dual stuff because of what I have to assume is just not knowing any better or don't want to admit you threw away your money but I wouldn't brag to loud to anyone with real car audio because you'll look dumber then you sound now. I have removed Dual stuff in the back of the shop I can't even give away lol.
About 34 years ago I was doing that to an Omni 024. Only there were no subwoofers sold like that,so I went Jensen 6X9's. I think I had Panasonic 6" in front. With a no name 20 watt x 2 amplifier. It was way better than the dashboard's original 6x9 that was just an oval..no tweet or midrange. It was so important then.
He ran his power wire with the factory harness which probably runs rear lights and maybe the fuel pump! The wires never went through the door jamb. He did a decent job for a DYI guy.
Hell yo an alpine bass line is pretty budget though and those get down he could have picked one of those up for 40$ online and that leaves room for a cheap amp to and it would have already been better then a duel but hey I’m not hating some people just want the boom sound and no feeling behind the music which I respect but I like to feel the music while at the same time not drowning it out with to much bass
I run up through the top between the hood/ wiper/ fender crease. Down behind the door hinges so it don't get pinched and throught the door wiring rubber boot through the kick panel then back to the trunck
Dual is former well known brand from Germany, in the 60-70-80 years they made very good HiFi equipment, today is just a brand for rent, you pay famous Dual label and many think this is from Germany, but true is Walmart or some other company pay for Dual label, go to China, Malesia, VIetnam.. and make cheap product over the head of poor people in Asia, this box and up in Walmart USA or in Europe...
AutoBlogZN I remember those days, Dual made some very decent turntables. Please, whoever, don't put that name on a Shitty all plastic turntable, just don't!
Dual was split into three (hifi phono, euro boxes and US chinese boxes) , which explains a lot:( HK and JBL aren't "good audio", neither are Bose. For "good audio" start at NAD, Rotel, Denon, Marantz and then work your way up to Linn, Naim, Exposure, Roxan etc..
We do not ever never no no connect the radio harness with black tape. Drive around enough and shake those connections on a hot day when the adhesive on the tape turns gooey and it will pull the wires out and cause a fire
This is a slippery slope Rob... Once you get the taste for quality car audio it just becomes another "ooooo let me just get a bigger sub/amp" then speakers, head unit, etc... Before you know it you'll be competing... Okay maybe not that extreme but you'll wanna one up your buddies system lmfao
Mike Bender dude no fucking joke. I bought those 6x9 kickers for the two front doors and next thing you know, i have an amp and 4 more 6x9's and 2 12in kicks sub. What have I doneeee
guapman how do you like those sundowns? I am gonna be doing a nice setup in my c6 base with a dual 12" downfire box. I was thinking I will eventually upgrade to the sundowns but I'm worried about the cu ft in the sealed box. Only .7 cu ft per side.....
Please use butt connectors not electrical tape. And notice he plugged the RCA's in before running them behind the dash, he cut the video and had to reconnect after running. And hook to power directly to the battery not the damn fuse panel
BIG-BAD-BRUINS22 HOCKEY MAN soldering is best but I can strip twist and tape a wire connection much better than a shitty ass, time saving butt connector. Don’t come at me with I am not doing it right. I know how to do it.
Yeah if you remove the negative you have a safe way of disconnecting the battery in case you drop the lead. I did kinda gloss over that one. Good call.
In fact i heard that connecting positive last is better, and from what i see it not sparks at all. We usually remove ground just to not short battery with wrench
Always the neg first and neg last. Didnt know this till recently but apparently removing the pos first and hooking the pos up last can potential blow the cars computer
+TheRedRaven Tell me valid argument for that. I can only see that is safer because You will not short terminal during tightening +Jeff Barton You can blow computer if you disconnect negative also, if it is not protected. Voltage jump will be jump, it doesn't matter from where. If i'm wrong, please give me valid possibly physical explanation why
he really has no idea what hes doing lol, he dident even solder any of the connections on his aftermarket radio, they are all electrical taped together lmfao
I installed a 800$ painless wiring harness 21 circuit in my 67 falcon and every connection is not soldered. Simply twisted together and wrapped with shrink tube. You don’t need soldering tbh.
@@redbird283 yeah I don't think the solder is needed. All I did with mine was put little caps over them and crimped them. Well over 2 years ago now and it's been just fine. And I have a 2300watt set up.
he could have probably tuned it better, i heard potential. his radio was probably also at default settings (i usually put mine on powerful, or bass boost). i have gotten decent bass from factory speakers with my radio equalizer set to powerful.
Any distance should work, but the closer you are to the battery the safer you will be. By safe, I mean that regardless of if the fuse is blown or even in place, the wire from the battery to the fuse holder will always be live. If cut accidentally, no fuse to blow and protect you, since that fuse is 'upstream'
I'm sure you were supposed to disconnect from the negative post first! To prevent the positive from touching anything on the chassis. Since the chassis would be negative/ground. If the positive were to touch any metal body of the car, you could blow fuses, cause battery to short, or have something weld to the chassis and possibly catch fire.
when you did that 20$ radio install..I thought ya right 20 bucks for a radio...Sure enough, Walmart has it selling for 19.84$.I just about pissed myself laughing...great job man. loved the video.
One 12 is good enough. Just get a good box. I use to have 2 JL 10s in a sealed box. Then I got a JL 12 inch with a ported box from sound ordinance and its crazy how much bass I get with only 300rms. I got it hooked up to a 5 channel alpine and people would tell me to turn it down because they don't like it to be that boomy to where you get a back massage.
It’s all a out what you’re going for. I has two 12s and they used to beat. Then I got a single 15” Kicker L7 in a custom box and it was absolutely insane. Really was too much. Im not into it as much as I used to be. As crazy as it gets for me now is the sub I replaced in my 2003 Lexus ES that I use when I wanna save on gas lol. Its a Memphis and any street dude knows that while Kicker, Rockford and JLs are quality brands the Memphis and Q Power subs just hit WAAAAY different 😂
malik lovett any idea why mine wouldn’t be getting power? I did exactly what rob did with the wiring harnesses but I used the positive terminal from my battery instead.
I bought one of these for a small truck and it works great. Good bass for a good price. I used it in a suoer cab ranger and it was just right not to much amd cheap.
"1st step, take off your positive battery lead" Anyone else with actual automotive knowledge see what's wrong with that step? And that was just the first step.
Yeah negative is less likely to spark. The batteries produce hydrogen gas when charging, which can be highly explosive. He’s okay for now but it can turn into a fatal accident real quickly
In truth, if the car has been sitting for several hours then there really is not an issue either way as hydrogen dissipates *very* rapidly and is only produced during charging. It matters far more when one is jump starting vehicles because both batteries are effectively being charged (particularly if the Good Samaritan vehicle is left running to help start the other vehicle and recharge that vehicle's battery) and are likely to be emitting hydrogen and oxygen in the perfect 2:1 proportions.
@Adam Epperson That's the golden rule. When I first saw it in his video I just shook my head.. He def shouldn't be hooking up systems or anything else.
HILARIOUS ending. For personal use, if all you want is some decent bass that will fill your car up and your're not trying to impress the whole neighborhood, those cheaps subs are just fine!
The best position for that speaker Box would be face up in the bottom of the return cart at Walmart.

Oh, I will admit the whole unscrewing the fender part was crazy. You can typically find something that goes through the firewall that is rubber grommet protected where you can get the wire to feed through.

First of all. Great effort. A+ for trying it yourself and do not want to discourage anyone from DIY BUT:
1. you should always remove the NEGATIVE from the battery terminal before running a wire. (if that + fell to the bodywork... SPARKS!!)
5. they gave you straps for a reason. use them or you could get hurt from a flying box
6. set gains to prevent blown subs, plenty of vids online

I would never buy used, because I don't trust the people who owned it before to treat it correctly. Who knows how they had the speakers wired up and if they beat on it with an incorrect power rating. People are dumb, some people think Max Watts is what it runs at and have no clue what RMS power is or how Ohms work.

No need, by adding speakers there you are bringing the soundstage back and ruining the sound quality with a bunch of unneeded interfering frequencies.
mouthies3 I object two 10 inch kentwood subwoofers with a small basket and only 150 watts split between the two would add just enough that it wouldn’t overcome his doors speakers and tweeters and it would sound nice and clean while still adding just a tiny bit off boom when the bass hits so you can feel the music and it would only cost like 100$ for that kind of set up remember not all subs are made to rattle your doors off lol

Being a serious car audio enthusiast /installer , this was interesting. And funny..😅
Twist & tape?
Astro Builder, i can do that, replace all 6 speakers with a 4x4 grid of mid drivers in each door, some highs in the dash and a 6th order wall with 8 18's in it. you'll be bumpin.
Well, considering QGs suggestion was 42 speakers, and that's more than 1, you should be good to go!
I bought this sub box combo for my wifes car shes not into huge bass so this unit worked well for low bass notes adds a surround sound type system so for 80 bucks dose the job

this is a cool option for the people who aren't quite ready to get an actual sub and amp but want *something* on a budget
(it is really weak just FYI, camera guy was correct)
BigMan7o0 probably best not to hook it up to a different source, there's probably not much to gain

Always disconnect you battery negative before your positive and reconnect your positive before negative. If only removing one battery lead make it the negative.
Finally someone on here has sense. You always disconnect your negative first. From all my years of hooking up systems and etc that's rule number one.
The thing is in the electricity world people think the positive end is where the energy goes out from that's why they'll disconnect the positive instead of negative first when electrons are the particles which move in elevtricity
I was just going to say that ALWAYS disconnect the neg terminal FIRST
The reason for removing the negative first, is that if your the spanner you're using to disconnect the battery shorts against the chassis while you're undoing it, it won't explode in a shower of sparks and melt everything.

As a professional installer i can VERY easily say you should not be doing install vids. You did almost everything wrong. From battery disconnect to wire placement & connection. I get you're doing a cheap install but anyone following your instructions is going to destroy equipment.
truly agree with you
Except nobody gives a fuck about cheapass stereo gear. You can't do the wiring wrong when you already did the purchasing wrong. However nothing he did is going to destroy anything. The worst he can do is blow a fuse or clip the amplifier and burn a cheap POS sub....but where's your video teaching Walmart shoppers how to do it right?
Care to tell us correct way
I agree, and everything is so unbalanced audio wise. If he changes that cheap head unit to a good pioneer one it would be day and night difference
Why's it have to be pioneer? lol...
I have never seen a power wire run that way! I only run the power wire through the firewall using an existing grommet....
Joseph B there are some cars where this is not possible without several hours of taking apart the dash. My 07 impala LT has a dual layer firewall that I didn't want to bother with so I ran the power wire for my system in the front fender, through the window wire grommet, and down the paneling into the trunk. It is common practice tongi through the firewall, but it's not a must
The grand prix i wired up had kinda the same idea as robs, no issues
lol right Joseph B he removing the factory assembled fender bolts too that's the fast way to get uneven panel gap
Not recommended to run ANY power wire due to the fact that your door shutting can actually cut your cable which can lead to major problems
My friend has this sub in his truck to just add bass to his bassless stereo in his f250 and for $70 its not bad. Its no audiophiles dream sub but it does add bass when there is none.
On another note you DO NOT run the power wire to the fuse box..you attach it to the positive on the battery.
you do not need to or it's a bad idea to?
Place the subwoofer facing towards the trunk.
As long as it doesn’t go in the 4 rotor, it’s okay.
Run rca cables on the opposite side of your car to eliminate feedback
If you follow these steps you're guaranteed to burn your car to the ground

MightiestArm that’s because he has zero clue how he could fix it :) that’s how the internet works!!
i can't believe people do this!
Nori Licious I was dying when he just connected it to the fuse box. I wanted to cry.

Good advice, but this dual amp probably pulls less amps than a cigarette lighter lol, it should be just fine.

He did a decent job for a DYI guy.
man.. lok at him now, doing wiring on a indycar engine
Don't hate this subwoofer we all used low end subs before high ender subs . It gets the job done at the end of the day that's all that matters .
ORANGE BOY 714, exactly dude. We've all bought the cheap crap to begin with. And then spent thousands
Carlos . B pretty sure those 12s bump and yeah
I didn't. Why would I use crappy subs when the good ones don't cost much more
I had a 8inch bazooka bass tube in HS.
I connected this sub directly to head unit. Blew sub
Lol 😅😂🤣
Rob has definitely come a long way from these old videos.
That power wire should have gone through the firewall, there should be plenty of holes with wires already going through, just use one of those.
I run up through the top between the hood/ wiper/ fender crease. Down behind the door hinges so it don't get pinched and throught the door wiring rubber boot through the kick panel then back to the trunck
Is it bad that I'm more excited for the Honda Insight videos than the 4 Rotor?
So Dual went from a company that made audiophile-quality turntables years ago to one that makes WalMart speakers now. How far they've fallen. Yikes.
Legion of Weirdos yep, quite sad
They've been making Walmart garbage for at least 15 years.
cuz China
Easier money more affordable for most
I ain't even mad. Budget builds are cool. I love seeing what you can do for as little money as possible.
AutoBlogZN
I remember those days, Dual made some very
decent turntables.
Please, whoever, don't put that name on a Shitty
all plastic turntable, just don't!
Basically owned Korean company called Namsung. Koreans do own and make good audio brands like Harmon Kardon, JBL, etc.
Dual was split into three (hifi phono, euro boxes and US chinese boxes) , which explains a lot:(
HK and JBL aren't "good audio", neither are Bose.
For "good audio" start at NAD, Rotel, Denon, Marantz and then work your way up to Linn, Naim, Exposure, Roxan etc..
Just like Rockford fosgate then
Woooooooshhhh
I cringed at Almost every step of that install
Shut yo bitch ass up
LIT GANG ZAY shut up he can't set anything up
Besn't
We do not ever never no no connect the radio harness with black tape. Drive around enough and shake those connections on a hot day when the adhesive on the tape turns gooey and it will pull the wires out and cause a fire
Bantamdude Rodriguez Edgy huh?
This is a slippery slope Rob... Once you get the taste for quality car audio it just becomes another "ooooo let me just get a bigger sub/amp" then speakers, head unit, etc... Before you know it you'll be competing... Okay maybe not that extreme but you'll wanna one up your buddies system lmfao
Mike Bender dude no fucking joke. I bought those 6x9 kickers for the two front doors and next thing you know, i have an amp and 4 more 6x9's and 2 12in kicks sub. What have I doneeee
Same haha I started off with just changing the head unit now I have all new speakers and 2 sundown 12s lol
True. Started with two 10s, went to two 12s with aftermarket speakers and here I am now, with pro mid ranges, super bullet tweeters and one 15 🤷🏽♂️
guapman how do you like those sundowns? I am gonna be doing a nice setup in my c6 base with a dual 12" downfire box. I was thinking I will eventually upgrade to the sundowns but I'm worried about the cu ft in the sealed box. Only .7 cu ft per side.....
Why do you need that much bass? I would be more than happy with ONE 10'', or even a high quality 8'' lol
It’s a good sub I have one in my beetle. Speaker tech has come a long way. If installed and tuned right, it produces clean good bass for the money.
0:09 You're wearing a different outfit than the next scene. But the same as the last. TIME TRAVEL?!
Layne White time travel, what. Rob Dahm I'm you have access to a time machine then why the hell isn't the 4 rotor done yet!?!?!?!?!? Lol
Why would the 4 rotor need to be done in the current time? If he can time travel, then he can just go to the future when it is done and drive it then.
That is what the silver play button does. You press it for time travel.
blindassassin111 Illuminati confirmed
:D :D :D loool
That sub isnt that bad actually my buddy got this as a start out in a honda accord and it worked just fine
Please use butt connectors not electrical tape. And notice he plugged the RCA's in before running them behind the dash, he cut the video and had to reconnect after running. And hook to power directly to the battery not the damn fuse panel
Or you could do it the right way and soder the wires then shrink wrap them
BIG-BAD-BRUINS22 HOCKEY MAN soldering is best but I can strip twist and tape a wire connection much better than a shitty ass, time saving butt connector. Don’t come at me with I am not doing it right. I know how to do it.
I have a DINDIN bluetooth speaker that I have used for a year and the sound quality is really good, this product deserves a lot of praise.
Aren't you supposed to remove the negative terminal first not the positive?
Yeah if you remove the negative you have a safe way of disconnecting the battery in case you drop the lead. I did kinda gloss over that one. Good call.
In fact i heard that connecting positive last is better, and from what i see it not sparks at all. We usually remove ground just to not short battery with wrench
Always the neg first and neg last. Didnt know this till recently but apparently removing the pos first and hooking the pos up last can potential blow the cars computer
kxpes always, absolutely always no if’s and’s or but’s remove the negative first. That is the safe way and the only way.
+TheRedRaven Tell me valid argument for that. I can only see that is safer because You will not short terminal during tightening
+Jeff Barton You can blow computer if you disconnect negative also, if it is not protected. Voltage jump will be jump, it doesn't matter from where.
If i'm wrong, please give me valid possibly physical explanation why
I did not just see that power wire go through the door!! Rookie moves 101!
he really has no idea what hes doing lol, he dident even solder any of the connections on his aftermarket radio, they are all electrical taped together lmfao
It must be the cheapest and quickest way to install
I installed a 800$ painless wiring harness 21 circuit in my 67 falcon and every connection is not soldered. Simply twisted together and wrapped with shrink tube. You don’t need soldering tbh.
@@redbird283 yeah I don't think the solder is needed. All I did with mine was put little caps over them and crimped them. Well over 2 years ago now and it's been just fine. And I have a 2300watt set up.
@@redbird283 yeah fuck soldering. I'll do it if I have to. But I'd rather not deal with burning myself/inhale potentially carcinogenic fumes
Thank god... thought poor Erica was holding the camera the entire time having to watch Rob reverse osmosis back thru puberty.
Hopefully she doesn’t watch this video 😂
Lol listen to this man for rotary advice, not audio advice.
sub placement suggestion - dumpster.
I would take this shitty $70 sub over no sub any day.
he could have probably tuned it better, i heard potential. his radio was probably also at default settings (i usually put mine on powerful, or bass boost). i have gotten decent bass from factory speakers with my radio equalizer set to powerful.
Lmfao and they should jump in there too
@@dcfuksurmom rip to your door speakers. keep the bass for the subs and the highs on doors
:)
The song at the end hit harder from my phone speaker than your entire subwoofer.
Just sayin'
Brian Santiago lmao 😂
Lol
😂
My Samsung S20 gut more bass
Definitely should've tested with Bassnectar lol
damn bassnectar, I haven't heard that name in a long time
Timestretch makes my face melt
Basshead is the go-to test song isn't it?
Prefer Chasing Heaven
TKO is where it's at. Actually screw that it's all boomtastic
KmanBeatz ughhh. If you disconnect the positive post, what is going to spark?
when you did that 20$ radio install..I thought ya right 20 bucks for a radio...Sure enough, Walmart has it selling for 19.84$.I just about pissed myself laughing...great job man. loved the video.
It should be placed back on the shelf at Walmart! #DDAudio
Got this from Walmart it’s actually really good I love it
malik lovett any idea why mine wouldn’t be getting power? I did exactly what rob did with the wiring harnesses but I used the positive terminal from my battery instead.
Your wirings are probably wrong
malik lovett it just doesn’t make sense though, I followed this video exactly
@@t.j.softich2553 that's your problem lol
T.J. Softich dont listen to rob. the way he showed will burn your car down. i would never buy this sub either
The positive has a in line fuse for a reason. Run it to the battery..
I bought one of these for a small truck and it works great. Good bass for a good price. I used it in a suoer cab ranger and it was just right not to much amd cheap.
5 years ago they had a 10" kicker all in one box at Wal-Mart. I still use it today, sounds great.
Sounds great if you haven't heard a half way decent system lol
@@ascap2854 no ive heard systems that run $15,000 plus. I'm running component speakers. Dont need anything better in a hatchback.
Congratulations on 400K my man! Keep at it!
Hahaha, takes me back to my 20’s when I would do some installs. The stuff I did was higher end, but the wiring is basically the same.
If the wiring was the same, please NEVER touch electrical wires ever again.
Give me 10 minutes have it all done ❤😂 cake work boys ❤
"1st step, take off your positive battery lead" Anyone else with actual automotive knowledge see what's wrong with that step? And that was just the first step.
always take ground off first... and back on last.
+Mike Odie lol... You do realize he's building and engineering the 4-rotor right? I'd like to see you try that...
HILARIOUS ending. For personal use, if all you want is some decent bass that will fill your car up and your're not trying to impress the whole neighborhood, those cheaps subs are just fine!
