Brilliant. OMG. Contact paper on bottom. $ store has cheap contact and the electrical tape will tack down while doing around. I love that pink. Your turntable is a great idea. Yr so smart🥰. TFS. Great video. ❤️🇨🇦
I am sure you will do great! Just remember, if you are not making mistakes, you are not learning. It takes some practice, but I bet you are a pro in no time!
Before epoxy tumblers were a thing, I sealed with clear spray paint. Between each layer, I would bake in the oven at 200 for about 30 minutes. I can't suggest you do that since I don't know how safe it would be. I do know from the research we were all doing back then, it appeared safe. But, I honestly can't promote it.
To confirm, you didn’t add any primer for the pink spray? Is it necessary to use primer? I have some sitting around at home but not sure if it’s necessary
The Rustoleum 2X Cover has a primer in it, but it's probably not necessary since you are epoxying over whatever you put on the cup, which locks everything in
I usually wait until I'm ready to epoxy the last layer and clean the rims and inside. A little rubbing alcohol or acetone on a paper towel will take paint right out
I have an old one i want to repaint, but it needs to be stripped and I was wonder how you strip off the old paint and if you use sand paper or a chemical? thanks :)
Lora Blanton thanks I just tested it out my self and it doesn’t do anything . Thank you I had brought the wrong paint on accident lol and was stuck with it
If you bought paint with primer why do you have to use sandpaper. I only used the paint with primer and it was fine. Didn't know you could use gloss paint alot of people said to use flat never gloss that's why I didn't buy the gloss but I see from those video it doesn't matter
Sorry I missed your comment. I always sand to give the paint a little bit of a rough surface to adhere to. Some folks don't sand, but I prefer doing it to assure the paint won't lift. Gloss is just fine. It's just a base to help hide the stainless color when you apply your glitter. You don't have to do a base coat if you don't want, but stainless may show through, depending on glitter and the color.
Mandy, Normally, after I epoxy first layer and its cured, I just wipe inside and the rim with acetone. If you paint open side down, no paint gets inside, but it may get on the top at the rim. Hope that helps!
Sorry missed this. When this happens, let it fully dry and lightly sand the rough area with fine grit sand paper, wash, dry and apply another coat of paint in that general area
Yes, I believe the higher the # , the finer the grit. You would not want to use something like 1500. I use a sort of coarse grit, but dont have any particular one I use. You just want to knock of any coating and scratch it up a bit to give paint something to grab
If it's just paint, I use acetone. If it has cured epoxy, I use a paint and epoxy remover you can find at Lowe's or Home Depot in paint department. I use an old paint brush and brush it on, then wrap in aluminum and leave it outside overnight. It pretty much slides off the next day. Get some chemical resistant gloves and wear protective glasses when handling it.
Sorry for the delay. I missed this. I have seen people glitter over the plastic cups. My only concern would be that they may be too hot with coffee in them or sweat with a cold drink and the epoxy that would be over the glitter would separate.
These are base coat for glitter tumblers to be sealed with epoxy. I have, however, done spray paint only, baked in oven to hard the clear coats and they held up very well.
You need to seal it with something if you're not applying glitter and epoxy to it. Before glittering cups, I baked my painted cups to seal a clear sealer over the paint

Actually what I needed to know! Thank you!
Thank you Im so nervous to do my first one. Great video.

Is that a cake turner? Also, 220 is not rough, it’s fine. The lower the grit, the rougher the it is.
Yes, those could be used as a cake turner. I love those things, so many uses!
After the paint dries do I need to wash the outside before epoxying?
When I have done epoxy over paint, I do not wash the outside. Just be sure it's fully dry before epoxy.
Do you have to epoxy it even if you aren’t doing glitter?
Before epoxy tumblers were a thing, I sealed with clear spray paint. Between each layer, I would bake in the oven at 200 for about 30 minutes. @@craftingwithlora144 gotcha thank you 🙏🏻
@@britinig5850 You're welcome

Does the paint need to be a primer as well I have model plane spray paint would that work?
For the first time I got a little paint inside my cup .. how can I fix it ?
I usually wait until I'm ready to epoxy the last layer and clean the rims and inside. A little rubbing alcohol or acetone on a paper towel will take paint right out
Ok thank you
Denatured alcohol if the regular rubbing alcohol isn’t working, do this outside thought and rinse thoroughly after paint is removed
I love this project . But I would use maybe use 2-3 different colors of spray paint.
Sarah Felts ... Yes, ombre is really pretty!!
i am gald you said you said something about the paint run becouse my did today
I have an old one i want to repaint, but it needs to be stripped and I was wonder how you strip off the old paint and if you use sand paper or a chemical? thanks :)
I'm sorry I missed this, Sarah. I use acetone to remove the old paint.
Cool thanks😊
I brought glossy on accident but I don’t have primer I have primer in matte which I normally use
I am so sorry, I am just seeing this message and you are probably long past this...but I use glossy or flat for base. Either is fine.
Lora Blanton thanks I just tested it out my self and it doesn’t do anything . Thank you I had brought the wrong paint on accident lol and was stuck with it
Can you use gloss spray paint?
Yes, ma'am. I use either flat, matte or glossy. I am not picky. :-)
I thought you where gonna use the white as a primer then the pink spray paint ontop. Does the paint hold up pretty well? Good video!
Mario C ... yes, I don't use cheaper store brands and I have not had any issues, even with tumblers I seal and bake with the clear spray paint
Mario C Yes...it really does. After glitter. You will epoxy over it, locking glitter in.

what if I get spray paint on the inside rim, how to get it off? thanks!!
Mandy,
Normally, after I epoxy first layer and its cured, I just wipe inside and the rim with acetone. If you paint open side down, no paint gets inside, but it may get on the top at the rim. Hope that helps!
Acetone
It helped me... thanks!! :)
what is the size of grit you used?
Newbie! I have drips from the spray paint. Is there a way to get them off or flat?
Sorry missed this. When this happens, let it fully dry and lightly sand the rough area with fine grit sand paper, wash, dry and apply another coat of paint in that general area
I thought the higher the number the finer the grit? So 50 would be course not fine grit??

What is your tumbler stand made out if?
This is just a plastic Lazy Susan from Amazon. I use it for painting
What do you use to strip your cups with

Can I do this with a re usable Starbucks cup?
Sorry for the delay. I missed this. I have seen people glitter over the plastic cups. My only concern would be that they may be too hot with coffee in them or sweat with a cold drink and the epoxy that would be over the glitter would separate.
How’s the paint hold up to washing etc?

@@MaryKayLora can you give baking instructions? I want to paint a cup and add vinyl decal so what would be your suggestion?
Will it wash off if I wash it
You need to seal it with something if you're not applying glitter and epoxy to it.
Before glittering cups, I baked my painted cups to seal a clear sealer over the paint
How long do I bake it
how long do you bake it for
@@sonnishupe4318 I usually bake them at 200 for about 20-25 minutes. Longer if a few coats and it won't hurt them
I swear those paints have a smell that stick around for weeks. I wouldn't be able to drink anything out of a tumbler with that terrible paint smell.
Why didn’t you tape the top part
Viktursxe personal preference...I just dont lik that look.
Viktursxe *like
Yeah same here but what do use for clear coat ? Just to be safe on drinking out of it ?
Do you just let it dry by it self ?
Viktursxe I use FX Standard epoxy that I get from Amazon. I get really good results with that.
Wasting a lot of paint.
