If you can feel pokes and bumps that won’t be covered by the final coat of epoxy. Depends on glitter too because if it’s metallic you probably want to add another coat of epoxy before sanding. I use 400 grit wet/dry and sand under running water.
Do you print your own decals? If so, can you share with me what paper, printer, programs ect. I am wanting to start putting decals on tumblers and am unsure how to begin
Yes, you will need to epoxy until smooth and then add the decal. The decal won't stick directly to the glitter and if you add it before your epoxy is smooth you will be able to see all the bumps behind it from the glitter.
I am just thinking about getting started doing this, looks like fun. What are the basics that I need in regards to the decal part of it? I wish I could find a starter checklist or something.

Ok so I’m new to this let’s see if I got it lol so first step, mod podge then glitter, then more mod podge and more glitter, then let it dry then apply 1 coat of epoxy? Then sand if needed put decal, one more coat of epoxy and let it dry and done??? Hope to get some answers I’m really confused lol I saw someone sprayed the cup with some type of spray glue after adding more glitter, is that needed?
Monse Cruz There are really so many ways to do it. You’ll want to try the different methods and find what works for you. I use either mod podge or epoxy as my adhesive and then do generally do 2-3 coats of epoxy. 👍🏻
Minderella Creations thank you one more question, I saw some use polycrylic instead of mod podge, is that good too or is the mod podge better in your opinion?
First of all I love your video's and I am excited to try to make something like this for my wife. I notice you mentioned that you are switching from ozarka to Hogg. I noticed that Hogg brand had the name on the bottom that sticks out. How do you get around that with the glitter does it make it uneven?
I've been trying to add a decal that goes all the way around my tumbler but no matter what i do it seems to bunch up somewhere along the way. the cup is not straight up and down, it is wider at the top and smaller at the bottom. (20 0z) any suggestions???
That's the worst when it happens. It's best to try and push it down with a silicone brush until the epoxy thickens up to where it stays under. If the epoxy is already cured, you'll need to sand it off down to the decal and reapply it and reepoxy.
How do you keep the vinyl from getting wrinkles? I’ve tried a few times to place a holographic butterfly on my cup but keep getting wrinkles. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hello!! I am new to making decorative cups and tumblers and I absolutely love your video's, they are so helpful to me. I have sort of a dumb question, I see that a lot of people use epoxy to seal the glitter and decals in the cups but I have also see people use triple thick glaze. My question is have you used the triple thick glaze on your tumblers? If so how did you like the results? If you have not used it why not and would you recommend only using the epoxy? I don't have a cup turner and I am just trying to find a way to seal in my designs so they can be washed. Thanks in advance.

getyoliferight I always use Epoxy. It’s the only thing that’ll give you a glass like appearance. For a mug or something you could use dishwasher safe mod podge, but it has a 28 day cure before you can put it in the dishwasher and it doesn’t shine your glitter like Epoxy.
You can order it online from Amazon or purchase from Michael's stores. It's the Cricut Holographic and it's linked in the video description. Thank you!
Tiffany Goodhue If I can I wait until the next day to give it time to cure a bit. But as long as you press it on REALLY well you can apply immediately. If it’s not pressed everywhere enough, you can have a decal lift under your epoxy.

Those turned out beautiful! I'm a newbie at this so excuse any dumb questions or comments...LOL. So you just sand around the vinyl and epoxy one more time...yes?
AggieMom2 Maupin Yes, that’s exactly what I did. Where I placed the vinyl was super smooth, but there were a couple spots that needed a little sanding. I just sanded those spots and wiped with acetone, making sure I didn’t hit the vinyl with the sandpaper or acetone. I could have done the sanding prior so I didn’t have to be careful too, but I wanted to get them on. 😊
Minderella, I've noticed in some of your comments that you mention "sealing". When exactly do you seal your tumblers and what do you use? And is it bad if you don't seal? Thanks and sorry for all the questions!
I have not sealed one of mine yet. But, if I do another checkered I will. Sealing is done with a clear coat, people use different ones. I use the Rustolem Clear to seal when I have sealed my waterslide decals and it worked great. I would probably use that to seal the glitter. Sealing is done so that your glitter doesn't shift when you apply epoxy. The checkered cup I picked out shifted glitter for 45 minutes lol
Jessica Moreno The vinyl shows bumps very well and sticking it directly onto the glitter it would be very rough looking. It also wouldn’t adhere very well and could pop up out of your epoxy.
NEWBIE here: ok, i'm still confused. AFTER u put on decal, dont u reapply more epoxy or sealant so it will not peel after washing? thank u so much, debbie
Love the night sky tumbler! 💙

is it okay to use a removable printable vinyl, print, then cut, then put it on the glitter tumbler, then epoxy and seal over it?
Yes. It doesn’t matter what you use if you’re dealing it in epoxy.
When do you know when you need to sand? What sandpaper do you use?

I use a vinyl cutter, silhouette cameo, to make the decals.
I know you mentioned in the comments you used Carrolinas Font. Do you know what would be similar in the cricut design website?
Fonts are independent of the cutting machine. You can purchase any font and install it into your computer and then use it with your cutting system. 😊
I don’t have any machines for decals, is there another way to get decals?
Rosa Garza Etsy or find a place that sells waterslides like ink blots group on Facebook.
Minderella Creations Thank you
Is there a reason why you don’t bring the glitter all the way up to the top of the cup? Thanks in advance 😊
I don’t prefer to do it that way but I do full coverage if requested. I also provide straws.
I added the glitter over the epoxy, do I have to add another coat of epoxy before the decal or just after?
Yes, you will need to epoxy until smooth and then add the decal. The decal won't stick directly to the glitter and if you add it before your epoxy is smooth you will be able to see all the bumps behind it from the glitter.
So I only sand after the first epoxy if needed? I can put my vinyl on even if it's not sanded? Also how long do you turn your tumbler for?

I’ve only used Silhouette so I have no experience with the Cricut. People who do tumblers I’ve heard prefer the Silhouette.

Mercedes Smith Yes!
This question may have been asked, but would you mind sharing the font style you used for the "Christina" decal? Thanks!
It’s the Carrolinas font 😊
And suggest on how to make it stick?
Question:
Will the name sticker stay on even when getting wet ?
I put it under another layer of epoxy so it’s completely sealed. I have put it on the outside before and it has been fine as well.
What do you do when; you put epoxy on your decals and put it on the rotator and it starts running make the decal colors run ?
Cricut glitter vinyl has to be sealed or the color will run. I haven't had any issues with any other brand.
Minderella Creations what do you seal it with ?
Taya Gibson Any sealer that you have. Some have issues. I use either 2x rustoleum Clear or Clear Acrylic sealer.

cassblack2006 yes, I’ve seen them crack.
I tried my first cup and used what I assume is more of a chunky glitter and cannot get the tumbler smooth... very upsetting.. do you have any tips?
Use epoxy as the adhesive instead of mod podge for chunky glitters. It will lay flat instead of be as bump. Still a few bumps, but not as bad.
Do a coat of epoxy over the glitter and then sandpaper it when its dry, then do another coat of epoxy.

The link and blue tumbler
I usually purchase from Walmart...the Ozark Trail tumblers. I have now started purchasing Hoggs, which I love.
What does it mean to “sand”
Sand the epoxy using sand paper. I have a tutorial for it on my channel.
So you seal as many times as you apply glitter?
AggieMom2 Maupin I haven’t sealed before, but if I did, I would only seal after final coat of glitter before applying epoxy.
What font is the Christina
laurie hohensee Carrolina
that is a beautiful font, can you share where you got it from? I've been all over and can't find it. I'm loving it. Your video was very helpful also

oh wow, that was quick. thank you so much. are you using the color "OPAL" for it or is it a brand. ( sorry for my many questions. lol)
Wow, that font is gorgeous. Thank you again!
Can you stick vinyl before adding the epoxy and once ur done adding glitter and vinyl can u use epoxy ?
Jessica Moreno The vinyl shows bumps very well and sticking it directly onto the glitter it would be very rough looking. It also wouldn’t adhere very well and could pop up out of your epoxy.
Will this work on a stainless steal Starbucks tumbler?
Yep, you can apply Oracle 651 Permanent Vinyl to stainless steel.
Hi! How long after applying the first coat of epoxy do you wait to apply the decal?
Shannon Washington Until it’s cured hard to the touch. 10-12 hours is the soonest. I usually wait 24 Because I don’t have time before.
NEWBIE here: ok, i'm still confused. AFTER u put on decal, dont u reapply more epoxy or sealant so it will not peel after washing? thank u so much, debbie
debbie donovan yes, I do
Just bought that glitter! Now waiting for it! I’m gonna do Rocket Raccoon one
you dont epoxy over the vinyl??
Jami Hutchinson I do
The "R" in Christina it looks like it wasn't weeded? but BEAUTIFUL cup.
Karen Paul Thanks...but it was. It’s a very slim line cut.
Awe thanks nice work
My decal would barely stick smh
Cerria Brown I’m not sure why it wouldn’t unless there was oil or something on the cup surface.
