I use acrylic paint as a base for all my cups! Depending on the color or how I’m making my tumbler I usually do about 2-3 coats. Acrylic dries incredibly fast!
Omg thank you for this video!! Ive been trying to figure out if i can just use acrylic paint on tumblers without having to do a massive prep session first! I have so much acrylic paint so thank you!!
Why didn't I think of this before and I bought a whole pack of that paint from Walmart??? Thank you so much for the reminder because I hate spray paint and I have a ton of it...lol. Now I can give the paint away. Yeppie!!!! Thank You
@@staceycollins5325 if you put it on a tad thicker they will go away! I also found that if your glittering the glitter will hid what you have left of brush strokes! I also started using my heat gun to dry the paint faster
Yes you can do modge podge instead of epoxy. I just prefer the epoxy way bc you have more of a chance of not putting the modge modge on evenly and getting lumps.
I wish I found this video earlier, I already mixed epoxy with white acrylic paint on to my tumbler , problem is the top edge of the cup and bottom edge show the stainless steel , could it be possible to add the white acrylic paint over it and add epoxy after it dries? TIA , it’s my first tumbler
Just a thought, since paint is sticky- if working fast enough, do you think you can put glitter over the paint before it drys? That way you save money on modpodge/epoxy, Then epoxy to seal? I just ordered a turner and I’m waiting on it to arrive so i can start making tumblers. But this is a thought I’ve had for a while
That I have never tried. But I did see someone the other day added cheat glitter to a can of paint for those bedroom and when it dried it was super shiny
Do you know if you’re supposed to always sand the tumbler before you start painting or adding glitters? Because yours seems like it wasn’t sanded down. Please help.
I was wondering the same thing, your cup had so much shine I couldn’t tell if I should skip sanding or not.. I was just about to pop open a bottle of paint and begin and something said check your video one more time before I get started thank goodness I did, thanks again!
With this method, are you able to get the paint smooth enough to not apply glitter? I'm looking for a good method to paint the cups for those who don't want glitter. Also, would using a roller to roll it onto the cup be better for leaving it the paint color?
Mica powders works good to it has a bit of a simmer but I'm sure you can buy it without it the mica are pricey but you only need a little bit and they last forever
Does this technique also work with prepping the stainless steel tumbler if you were going to use alcohol inks on them instead of glitter? I'm at an apartment where I can't really use spray paint! Thank you!
@@mamabairsdesigns3852 okay thank you! I asked someone else and they said that it wouldn't stick on the epoxy if it wasn't spray painted but instead painted it like you did! Thank you so much!
Epoxy doesn’t bond well To a flat surface and the tumblers come with a coating on them. Which in the end could result in all your hard work sliding right off
Hello, this is helpful because I live in NY and winter is approaching. This helps especially if I want to do different colors. One question. Do you buff the tumbler before or after applying the paint? I make rhinestone tumblers
This I have not tried. But I will assume when doing it you are adding the ink to your epoxy and putting it on that way? This is the only way I have done it myself.
@@spiritwings4592 you don’t have to use dawn. But I have found that if I use any other ones I tend to get a lot of fish eyes and end up having to do more coats. I’m not sure why either.
A new technique I figured out is when you do the paint drop it on and push it around while the cup is spinning. And use a sponge brush. I'm getting way better results this way. And I'm also putting the paint on thicker. Hope this helps!
I use just a cheap paint brush or whatever I have laying around and I put the paint on thick. When you are covering with glitter you wont see the brush lines.

Yes and it's so easy and the paint dries super fast!
Have you ever had issues with cracking? Do you seal after you paint the base with acrylic prior to epoxy/brite tone?
Acrylic paint by itself does not bind to stainless steel
Thanks for testing this! I needed a solution for the winter when it’s too cold to spray outside ❄️⛄️

Cool idea. Thanks.
Thank you!!
I actually use this method also, it is much cheaper and your not breathing in the fumes from spray paint
I love using this method!! It’s so amazing and so much easier and cheaper!

Can you use any brand of acrylic paint for tumblers?
I would think so. I just use the cheap stuff
Since this is acrylic paint, do I still have to wait a couple of days before applying glitter?
Nope! I dry it with my heat gun quick and then do my glitter the epoxy way
I use brite tone to seal my tumblers and apply my glitter do you think this will affect the acrylic paint? Since it's water based?

Yes

Can you use Brite Tone instead of Epoxy using this method?
Mary Gasseling that I do not know. I’ve never used bright tone
Mary Gasseling I use Extreme Protection and finish up with Brite Tone after I add my designs.

I would say yes. I have before. Make sure to sand the metal some first
would glitter stick to the last coat of paint? 🧐
It just might! I never tried
After u sams ur cup do u prime it?
I just sand then wash then paint
