Excellent video Shows fishing doesn’t need to be expensive Getting out by the river so good for mental health as well These rods and reels are also easily available in the UK Thanks 🙏 Excellent video
Thanks Robert, I’m doing my best to show people all aspects of fishing, from budget setups to the high end stuff, there’s so many ways to get our fishing ☺️ having no affiliation with the brands is great as I can be unbiased in my opinion and just show them all for people to make up their own minds
Hi Senan I am a young angler who has a love for fishing and my friend does too we going fishing every evening we can in the river but never catch any thing I was just wondering if you could recommend some rivers to go fishing in. Thanks for reading 😊
Glad it was helpful! A lot of people asked for the setup part, so it’s definitely worth showing every now and again, this one in this video is one of the easiest ways to get going.
I made the trip to Wildhunter yesterday as I had a voucher that was given to me at Christmas. Picked up a few spearheads, tasmanian devils, a second net for myself and a few other bits and bobs. Cracking shop, they have everything you need. I think the waders are now on my shopping list.😁
Sounds great! They have so much stuff in there , you could get lost! The waiders are a game changer for me, I need to be able to fish where others can’t get too.
Got the setup from the video from wild hunter, caught 4 brown trout within an hour, absolutely delighted! Thanks again for the video lad, really helped out and got my love of fishing again!
That was a great watch made a little purchase from the wild hunter hopefully there is plenty of spots around Athlone to fish for small trout like that also ur videos are very interesting lovely to watch
Another very enjoyable video Senan. Purchased a UL & reel last week to try some of that BFS fishing after seeing your BFS video, looking forward to it. Must try that swivel idea next time I am at the lake / river. Tight Lines Senan.
The swivel works good with spinners definitely. For your bfs setup, I’d recommend not using a swivel, you will need to be able to reel the lure up to the eye in order to cast the lure with power on bfs setups, you will see what I mean when you casting the bfs baitcaster 😁🤝
This is a really great video! I fly fish but I want to take my grandson fishing so I got a spinning rod to help maximise his chances of fishing and keep it a bit simpler. This has been really informative.
Hey. Awesome video. I just noticed shimanno 1000 reel is around £30 as well. I have seen I think you use yellow colour reels too. Would you say its ok reel? I like the rod you suggested for sure and thinking to pair it with 1000 reel for simple still-water fishing for kids and myself.
Good vid, usefull for many no doubt. I am enjoying the channel allot and was wondering if you in time would do a vid on sea/shore/rock fishing since Ireland does have some great coasts too?
Thank you. I have a few sea fishing videos done from last summer if you go back through the channel you will find them. But will be back down again during the summer!
Well done Senan another great video and I am sure more young lads will get into fishing after watching this which is great for our hobby. Not only are the getting great exercise from it they are getting out in nature which can only be great for their mental health and well being. Fantastic content and great channel super stuff as always.
Fished for most of my childhood, gave it up when the woman football and porter got preference. Taking it up again and im gonna get this set up..fair play Senan, it looks deadly, hopefully there are some fish in the Barrow...
Lovely video, definetly taking on board a couple things. Would you recommend braid or mono line more? Also would you still use a swivel on a twitch/wobble lure?
Braid and mono but work great for trout, for me, there’s no huge disadvantage for either ☺️ I don’t use a swivel if I’m using wobblers, the swivel is just for spinners 🤝
Glad to hear! This is more of a simplistic way to set up things but it works just fine, there’s ways to complicate it with different setups, but that’s all part of trying new systems 😁🤝
I’m sure it would be fine 👍 I like rods around the 1-7 gram range for small rivers like this, but the heavier rods like 4-12g will be just fine. If you’re only going to be catching small wild trout on it, the lighter the more fun. With small 2-3 gram spinners, having a lighter shorter rod will help with accuracy and sport when fighting them. But anything at all can be used to be fair. 👍
The shop is a magnet for anglers 😂 il throwing in these sorts of videos to show people the smaller river style of wild fishing, lots of people start with the advanced electronics on boats and miss out on this style of fishing
Nice one mate - ordered this gear last week based on your recommendations In terms of the Ryuki lures, what size are you using on that setup? Would be interested in size and colours if possible please mate?
Anything under 60mm for the rivers is good, and the larger size for the lake, that’s what I do anyway. Any colour works with them, they are the best for spinning 100%
Hey Senan. I was fishing a fast flowing river yesterday using spinners. Caught three small trout. I found that when casting upstream, at times I had to reel as fast as I could to keep up with the current. My reel is a Shimano FX2500. Gear ratio I think is 5:1. Should I move to a 6:1 or 6.2:1 or even higher? Thanks.
This reel should be perfect for this style of fishing, I use a small 1000 size reel normally and it would have a slower retrieve than that. Make sure when using spinners, you’re using a mono line ideally, they seem to rotate much better with mono, from my experience. 4-6 lb mono is nice to use for trout on rivers. Braid will work too, but for tiny spinners, I’d go for the mono option, but I like to use both.
Hi pal in new to river trout fishing I’m not the best but I’d love some tips on how to successfully catch a fish cos I’m struggling 😂not sure what I’m doing wrong I use spinners
Hi we don’t name any of the river locations on my channels it’s the number 1 rule of UA-cam. ☺️👍 the big lakes are different. We have to protect the rivers.
It could be a bit light for carp but I’m sure it could land one wildhunter.ie/products/mikado-bixlite-light-spin-rod-1?_pos=11&_sid=7874d6d43&_ss=r&sca_ref=3939922.CmiiEIUUGK
The one in this video was the 2.44 size but I would go for the shorter length for the river, if I was to choose! wildhunter.ie/products/mikado-bixlite-light-spin-rod-1?_pos=11&_sid=7874d6d43&_ss=r&sca_ref=3939922.CmiiEIUUGK

Thanks Romas 🐟🎣🎣🎣
Hi Senan, do you still use a swivel and a leader if using the spearheads or wobblers?
Great video Senan. What you think about Abu Garcia Tormentor 4-12g ? Good enough for trout river ?
I’m sure it would be fine 👍 I like rods around the 1-7 gram range for small rivers like this, but the heavier rods like 4-12g will be just fine. @@senanstanleyfishing thanks for reply. Placed my order on that rod.
Great video, would like to see more setup videos if you get a chance to make them.

Beautiful fish Senan.
Just little guys, the big ones on the lake are too focused on eating the mayfly right now to eat lures 😁
Will you have any fly fishing videos coming
Yes 👍
Sorry to bother you, what's the make and model of this rod please?
As the link doesn't take it to the rod.

Hi , 2.14meters is 7 foot long . ☺️👍
Yea actually use imperial for rod lengths and people's heights otherwise metric
Just think of it in bags of sugar 😂
