  • This is my whole trip in Disneyland 1990!
I taped most of the whole rides that I could, I had a very big and heavy over the shoulder Panasonic camcorder with SVHS video!
I taped this like a documentary about Disneyland and all the rides I went on like The Peoplemover, Pirates of the Caribbean, it's a small world, Haunted mansion, Star Tours, the Monorail and many more rides!
This is a very long video and I hope you enjoy Part 1 of my 1990 Disneyland Trip!

You know what you have here? You have, and I'm NOT kidding, very rare footage of the parking lot. Seriously, it's hard to find footage of the lot from this era when they had that grand walkway up to the ticket booths.

So much has changed since then. First off, alot of the attractions in this era are gone:
    * The PeopleMover was closed in 1995 because Imagineers determined it was no longer a demonstration of future transportation systems, but rather, a place for people to rest their feat, and it replaced by the Rocket Rods in 1998, which were unreliable pieces of junk that closed two years after opening; the tracks are still in place, a sad reminder of better days and a matter of intense debate amongst fans
    * The Skyway was closed in 1994 because it was due for an expensive overhaul and was, from a budgetary standpoint, effectively replaced by Indiana Jones; the pylons and Tomorrowland station coming down weeks after closure, but the Fantasyland station stood until it was finally demolished in 2016 for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge construction
    * Submarine Voyage closed in 1998 because, well, it was the Pressler era and they cut corners EVERYWHERE while finding new and increasingly unethical ways to shake their guests down; it was to be replaced by an attraction based on Atlantis: The Lost Empire in 2003, but Atlantis failed at the box office thanks to Shrek; but there is a happy ending, as subs did return in 2007 with a Finding Nemo theme and are still going strong
    * Motor Boat Cruise was closed in 1993 because its budget was needed for Mickey's Toontown, with the canals remaining in place until they were filled in during construction of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage in 2007, leaving only the old loading dock in place
    * Mike Fink Keel Boats closed in 1994 as part of the initial rounds of budget cuts, then came back in 1996 (presumably because they needed more capacity), only to close permanently in 1997 after a capsizing incident, with the Bertha Mae being sold in 2001, and the Gullywhumper becoming a prop on the river
    * Rocket Jets closed in 1997 in preparation for Tomorrowland 1998; now, I've heard conflicting reports as to what happened; one report says it was dismantled and reassembled with a new skin as the current Astro Orbiter, while another says it was redressed as the Observatron; either way, it still exists in some form
    * Big Thunder Ranch closed in January 2016, and was bulldozed to make way for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
    * Country Bears closed because it was just time; originally, the Imagineers wanted to put in a fast-paced dark ride with the Country Bear characters called Critter Country 500, but Paul Pressler vetoed it and demanded a cheaply-built Winnie the Pooh dark ride to funnel guests through a major gift shop
    * Captain EO was another victim of time, replaced by Honey, I Shrunk the Audience; HISTA closed in 2009 and was replaced the next year by...Captain EO; the film was brought back after Michael Jackson died, and played for four years until it was closed; the Magic Eye Theatre is now used to play a Star Wars sizzle reel
    * Circle-Vision 360 was a victim of Tomorrowland 1998; though the theatre itself remained in place as part of the Rocket Rods queue; the space is now Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
    * Mission to Mars closed in 1992 because it, too, had reached its end; that building remained dormant until it reopened as Redd Rocket's Pizza Port in 1998
    * The parking lot, of course, became Disney's California Adventure
    Other changes include:
    * Pirates of the Carribbean was butchered by a combination of movie synergy and the ever-persistant PC crowd; they replaced the pirate captain with Hector Barbossa, added three Jack Sparrow animatronics (though last year, to promote the newest PotC movie, they removed the first animatronic for one night and actually had Johnny Depp himself play Captain Jack in the ride), the Pooped Pirate became the Gluttonous Pirate, and is now just waving a treasure map around while bragging that Jack will never find it, and most egregious of all, when the attraction comes off its current (at time of writing) refurbishment, the Wench Auction will be changed to a Treasure Auction, and the Redhead will be renamed Redd (and have a voice provided by Grey DeLisle)
    * The bride in the Haunted Mansion was replaced in 2007 by a new bride named Constance Hatchaway, who was a black widow in life who married men only to decapitate them with a hatchet; in addition, since 2001, a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay has been installed on the mansion from September to January, Madame Leota now levitates, and the Hatbox Ghost returned in 2015
    * it's a small world now has Disney characters scattered throughout, and the Rainforest scene became an American scene during the same refurbishment in 2008 (that and they deepened the canals and replaced the boats)
    * Videopolis is now Fantasyland Theatre, and played a multitude of shows before becoming the Princess Fantasy Faire in 2007; it stayed that way until 2013, when the Fantasy Faire was moved to the former Carnation Cafe (they still have swing dancing on a few nights throughout the year); the theatre currently hosts Mickey and the Magical Map
    * The Videopolis Station, meanwhile, gained a cartoonish building in 1992 and was renamed Fantasyland, only to be renamed again in 1993, this time to Mickey's Toontown to coincide with the new land that opened behind it's a small world that same year; as far as guests are concerned, though, it's still Fantasyland's station since Toontown closes at 8 PM because that's where most of the fireworks fallout goes
    * The Jungle Cruise boats got the grunge look in 1993, and were outright replaced with bigger boats in 1997 to increase capacity; the boathouse was also demolished and replaced with a two-story boathouse in 1994, and was then ever so slightly rerouted to make room for the Indiana Jones queue in 1995
    * Matterhorn received new bobsleds in 2000, and again in 2013; it was also completely re-tracked in the 2013 refurb, and in 2015, the Abominable Snowman animatronics were replaced newer, more advanced models
    * The Tomorrowland and Fantasyland Autopias were combined into one big Autopia in 2000, and was sponsored by Chevron from 2000 to 2012; it is now sponsored by Honda
    * Star Tours got a new film in 2011, with all of the sequences randomized so that no two rides are alike; it's also...confused in terms of the Star Wars timeline, the only explanation being that the StarSpeeder seems to have a flux capacitor now
    * The monorail was slightly rerouted in 1994 to accomodate the massive Indiana Jones show building, and in 2009-2010, the Mark V monorails were upgraded into Mark VII monorails; well, almost all of them, since Purple was outright scrapped
    * At the time this was shot, the Carousel Theatre was office space; it reopened in 1998 as Innoventions, which lasted until 2015, and is now Star Wars Launch Bay; the old rotating mechanism hasn't worked in years, though, and all rumors point to its demolition
    * The Disneyland Railroad has had a few changes: first, sometime in the 90s, it switched from block signals to in-cab signals, but a few of the old block signals still remain for show; next, in 2005, a fifth steam locomotive named Ward Kimball entered service, and in 2016-17, it was rerouted to make room for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
    * The Rivers of America was also rerouted, with 25-30% being cut off because Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge needs that much room; they made the best of it, however, and added a visually-pleasing new scene called the Columbia River Gorge
    * Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's earthquake scene was replaced with a dynamite blasting scene in 2013
    * Splash Mountain has been a victim of deferred maintenance, even after Pressler left; and even after the most recent refurbishment, alot is still broken
    * Cascade Peak was bulldozed in 1997 because the waterfall was literally tearing the mountain apart
    * The Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough closed due to security concerns following 9/11; it reopened in 2009, without any of the dioramas
    * Peter Pan's Flight and Alice in Wonderland have both been enhanced greatly
    * Frontierland Shootin' Exposition now uses light guns instead of pellets

After I seize Disney in a hostile takeover, most all of these changes will be undone and reversed like they never happened as I usher in the Make Disney Great Again era to erase all traces of Paul Pressler, Cynthia Harriss, Robert Iger, and Robert Chapek as if they were never there. Under my rule, Disney will once again make decisions by asking "What would Walt do?" like they did for decades after his death. Even if it means Disneyland is frozen in time. It'll be almost as if Card Walker, Ron Miller, or Michael Eisner (before the loss of Frank Wells) came back.

This is the Disneyland I remember as a kid. Can someone please tell me why is it so popular now and so crowded? Its sickening how crowded it is. I go on the off seasons too when kids are supposed to be in school on a random Tuesday and its still SOOO BAD. I don't know why. I wish for one day I can experience Disneyland the way I remember it but I know that will never happen. Why so many crowds now. :(

You can thank the left and liberals for ruining Disneyland 🙄 and there still trying too it's disgusting and families all over the world 🌎 have never been so disappointed 😞 in a place that's supposed too be excepting and orientation to all races!!! Disneyland was never racist infact it teaches the opposite even in 80 90s and 2000s ! People like pelosi aoc they ruin it for everyone!!! Dude they tried to attack splash mountain......ya because it's southern !!! How does that help anyone? Southern people are black Mexican and Asian also so they aren't allowed to be proud of there history???? One day Disneyland will be purchased bye a conservative organization and all the evil 😈 demonic Pepsi ceo s will have no power anymore or weird californians trying to control Disneyland ...it was litteraly people going Disneyland isn't excepting enough we want more inclusion ...we want gay characters...splash mountain is offensive take it down...thunder mountain is racist take it down!!!! BRATS spoiled parents and kids ...non Americans controlling what goes on in America 🇺🇸 😳 thats what ruined Disneyland....it's not complicated....I know Republicans didn't do that .....they want family parks they want jobs for Americans they know how important Disneyland is to Americans....then you have liberals not even democrats! But liberals constantly making complaints and demands racist this...southern that....see the liberal forget that Disneyland is about America 🇺🇸 its about every race every creed south...Midwest...west coast....space for crying out loud ....liberals have taken that and spun it 360 degrees wich is why they don't get anything done or anything passed...liberals lost Walt Disney world already yes!!! They did don't argue with me about it ...they were litteraly attacking family marriage and classic timeless characters ...oh ya and they were teaching kids homo sexuality 😳 😔...ya that's all....like what????? See that's what liberals do. ...the scream 😱 what???? Every kid should be gay! How dare you !!! 😤 like what??? There arguments are these weird obvious things that you should never do ...like defending castration of children???? Really??? Or making people use pronouns with a gun to there head....the democrats look like heros now because liberals are soooo bad...we need good democrats who put people and freedom of speech first not PC ideology...because if liberals now the Republican party is the defender of free speach! Yes the liberal party's used to strongly defend the constitution...democrats defend the constitution and free speach ....but liberals are focused on race !!! So they lost free speach they defend weird evil shit . Read this please as someone who believes in party's working together for the common man or women...democrats should focus on the people like they have for 100s of years and the republican party should focus on law keeping streets safe keeping our army strong 💪 national defense and management of police departments that keep hobos from living on our grass and 5 thugs from taking you and your family hostage. Democrats should focus on management of taxes and Republicans should be creating jobs ...alot of democrats want police they want a strong country...it's the liberals ruining...basically everything blame them. Not democrats not Republicans but liberals have dropped the ball!!! Liberals do want teachers too defend themselves! Because they want a shooter too come in there and kill kids!!! Do not even try to say anything otherwise ok there is no logical explanation for teachers in ruff areas too not have guns...and this recent shooting proved it..oh no no no we don't want those teachers to have any self defense it might scare the children!!! Ok what if a shooter comes on campus 🤔 oh um 😐 then we uhhhh! Well then a police officer will arrive and save us all! Really??? Your thought process is a danger too. These kids....what you do is have all teachers get licensed and every teacher keeps that gun on them every day!!! Doesn't matter if it Christmas or July you always have them so you can always protect that child's life wich is 100000 times more important then nancy pelosis life!!! Oh no but the kids!!! NO YOU MEAN DEAD KIDS??? you can't offend a child if there dead ??? I'll never understand people who think like that...why should children be vulnerable???? Why not have them safe??? Mayor of Chicago hates men hates white people has zero order in her city she is a sad lonely guilty old women and it's a matter of time before Chicago replaces her...

This makes me want to cry a little bit. My dad used to do all the home videos when I was little, and (when times were good) Disneyland was our thing. So we had tons of home videos of us at Disneyland. But time passed, my dad passed away, and we lost everything, including those videos. So seeing the Disneyland I used to run around in when I was little through an old camcorder... it brings back some good memories. Thank you for posting. :')

Great video! This was in my opinion the greatest time in history for Disneyland. It was great to lay eyes on the beloved Peoplemover. To bad it was not running that day, at least during the Star Tours segment. Disney made the biggest mistake getting rid of the peoplemover. RIP Disneyland Peoplemover (1967-1995).

i've had an annual passport for 30 years and around this time is when my best friend and i would go 3 or 4 times a week. so getting to see this disneyland in more than my mind's eye again is very special (he passed away 2 yrs. ago). my friend and i each got to go to the dream machine once. he won 2 VHS disney movies and i won a watch. the day i got my winning ticket i didn't go to the dream machine right away. i decided to take a ride on the peoplemover first. as i came out of the american journeys building i could see that someone had WON that days car while i was on the ride! if only i had gone right to the dream machine....who knows!
anyway, seeing the old hotel area and parking lot is a window into the past for sure. i also love the look of the video. shaky with quick zooms and low definition. it adds a certain charm to the subject matter. like old 8mm films of disneyland in the 50s and 60s. the amount of footage more than makes up for the quality. i love all the different and unusual angles. just like it was walking around the park. the non stop train ride around the park was great, and the eletrical parade, well, that brings back a wash of feelings.
thanks for sharing this wonderful video time capsule.

@TheRunoben wow thanks for responding to my 10 years old comment. I completely forgot about this comment. Now, in ten years later into 2023, everything has changed in the word. I went through a personal toxic situation at Disneyland between 2014-2019. Disneyland is now an Authoritarian State and My time I spent at Disneyland between 2013-2019
I learned how dark Disneyland really is being a "servallance state and the Cast Members in Space mountain were in a Cast Member Cult against guests being friends with Cast members I was illegally servallanced and was followed by undercover security and a guy, young guy my age sent to stalk me in 2015 and under Cover security officer handed me a Polaroid photo of a guy that wanted to meet me under the sleeping Beuty castle in March 2018 "which that guy was not there waiting for me" eveything in our world has changed in 10 years in our world. After the parade all the lights turn back on for it's a small world!
You can go the ride while the parade is happening, there just no outside lights on the ride at that time!

1:02 Is that arcade still running? I hope so. I finally get to go to Disneyland for the first time this year instead of Disney World and I'm a HUGE fan of Wreck-It Ralph, so I'm hoping I get to find a place that has a real Fix-It Felix Jr. game so I can finally play the arcade version!

I've been thinking they should for a while now. Every time I look at that track I think "what a waste of unused equipment!" They could bring it back to what it last was....that would be just fine. It might crowd Tomorrowland even more in general but the individual ride lines might actually shorten a little.

The opening area with the Parrot has changed several times over the years!
The Blue Bayou is by far the best restaurant in Disneyland I think hands down for all the reasons you said!
If I might suggest for a nice view and a quiet relaxing scene of Tom Sawyer Island across the river and the Mark Twain river boat passes by your lunch table it's very beautiful behold!
It's the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country right next to the entrance of Critter Country!

1:15:54 I went on POTC when it was still like this at Disney World twice! :D And much as I love love LOVE Johnny Depp, I really miss the ride being like this... TTwTT It's sad to think I'll never get to ride the same POTC ride ever again. Just like it's sad to realize I'll never get to ride King Kong or Jaws at Universal ever again, either. I'm only 20 and I already know what it feels like to miss your forever-gone favorite attractions. :(

Oh man... I started singing with It's A Small World and started crying. XD Everytime I hear it, I remember all the times when I was very small, when my mother would either be teaching me the song herself or when I would be singing it alone, my mom would always stop me and tell me "I'm going to make sure you get to go to Disney World at least once. I'm not sure when, but someday you'll get to ride this amazing ride." and sometimes she'd almost cry just thinking about it.
