I remember we were on the train at about 10:00 and wrote it around Disneyland four times because we just didn't have the strength to get off 😁
I lived in Anaheim and my friends and I went a lot. My parents would give me $40 for admission and food, drop my friend and I off AT THE GATE, and say, “Have fun, pick you up at D-land Hotel when it closes!” The park was so much better back then. Thanks for the memories! ❤

Never have I seen a video of Disneyland's Mission to Mars, the Columbia with sails, or even the Mark III monorail in such nice quality. This is incredible footage that deserves to be in an archive, thank you for uploading this!
Yes. A Tomorrowland completely “on the move” as they used to say. Plus the skyway, boat cruise and live music as you enter Tomorrowland and at the French quarter New Orleans square. All at 20 dollars/day or 45 dollars for 3 days, if you can believe it.
I also graduated in '87 ... and started working at Disneyland in '87. At the French Market in New Orleans Square (which recently closed it's doors for good) and at the Hungry Bear Restaurant close to the Country Bear Jamboree. Worked at Disney for 7 years. It was definitely at it's best back then .... though I also might be a bit biased, lol.
Amazing video! I was born and raised in Socal and spent a lot of time at the park in the 90's. Good memories. We have Magic Keys now and I take my kids. One things for sure, it's a whole lot more crowded nowadays!
Thank you so much for checking it out! Much appreciated. It's definitely a stark contrast between what Disney is and what Disney was. I haven't actually been to Disneyland in a few years just because the crowds and the upcharging is putting me off
“LOOK ! The trading outpost sells Dor-i-tos chips!” 😂 This video was very well done. It flows with a consistent pace and doesn’t drag one bit. And with some cheeky humor sprinkled in, I was entertained throughout. Most of all, this video does its job of capturing the essence of the park in wonderful 1987. It should be recommended to anyone who loves Disneyland and nostalgia. Cheers
Thank you so much for stopping by and having a look! Of all the videos I've posted, I think this one is just about my favorite. It really was a different park and a different experience. People aren't looking at their phones, checking their mobile order or seeing when they're lightning lane is coming up. They're just enjoying the park as hopefully Walt intended
Disneyland is still just as magical. Cost is the only thing that takes me out of it but every time we go it amazes me. People are becoming more jaded and cynical. The magic is still there! I don't agree with all of their decisions on certain things though either.
I was a regular at Disneyland in the 70s and 80s because my grandma lived in Anaheim. I forgot the motor boats were still operational in 1987. I'm glad you captured some of the window displays on main street. Thank you for the closest thing to time travel!
Thank you so much for stopping by and giving all this a look. I was at Disneyland a lot in the '80s as well. Not so much in the '70s because I was constrained by lack of a driver's license and money to go. As I started pulling videos for my UA-cam channel I realized so much of what I recorded back then is just gone which encouraged me to make these videos if nothing less to preserve those memories. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the video

Priceless💯🙌... "It's Amazing....I Started my Adventures there at Disneyland a decade earlier.. recording on Silent Super 8mm film... had a collection of almost "60" 50ft(3:20 min.) reels of footage( including the Greatest Stop in the Entire Park... 🙌MERLIN'S MAGIC SHOP🙌( located about 15 ft. to your right...upon exiting "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" & entering "Fantasy Land"..sadly defunct after renovations to Fantasyland in 82'-83')... Unfortunately all that film has since been lost😭🤦🫣😔
I'm so blessed that I was able to visit Disneyland over 50 times in the late 70s to mid 80s. It truly was their golden years. What we have now especially at Walt Disney World is pathetic compared to what the parks once were.
Didney is still a pretty amazing place, but I agree with you that the "feel" of the park is just different. As I've said in some previous posts, it is difficult to enjoy a day at the parks the same way today as we did in this video. I loved this era in the parks and wish we could bring some of this back.
Thanks so much for this, I grew up at Disneyland in the 70s and 80s and it truly was a magical place. People appreciated so much more back then, before the internet, cell phones and social media torched everything and made people bitter and angry and divisive. Patriotism and goodwill prevailed. A pineapple whip, a stop in the magic shop, normal families and a late night ride on the train when you had the whole car to yourself! Those were the days, my friend!!
Oh, the wave of nostalgia I have just now. You nailed it. Just such a simpler time when Disney was so much more enjoyable and easier to navigate. You could be spontaneous and never had to be anywhere at a certain time, always checking the time and having to plan on how to get there through the crowds. I remember riding the train late one night after being in the park since opening and being so tired that I rode the train three times around the park. Thanks for watching. Lots more memories on my channel so I would encourage you to check it out.
I was 16 years old in 1987, and I went to Disneyland that year on June 5th 1987, I remember it all to well, and I miss the Disneyland of those days. The park has definitely lost something in the days since the 80's and 90's. I will forever miss this time period, the simplicity of it, the lack of Cell phones, and the far more social vibe you felt back then. I will always miss it and cherish it! Great video!
I agree completely and I thank you for watching the video. Sad to say that this Disneyland is gone forever. I too miss the simplicity of a Disneyland visit in this era.
Tomorrowland entrance these days is a sore point with me. The Rocket jets were soooo much better above the People mover loading and now it's just another spinning flat ride and a choke point. Thank you very much for giving this a look!
So glad to come across this and you did an outstanding job capturing the essence of the Disneyland of that era. Excellent camera and editing work. Brings back memories of my 17 year old self back then. Many thanks!
Thanks so much! I think this is one of the DL era's that I miss the most. When I first got that huge VHS camera, I just wanted to record Disneyland so I could relive it at home. So glad I was able to preserve so much of what disappeared.
I think what I loved about this era was that you could still be spontaneous. No park or ride reservations, no mobile ordering. Just wandering where your feet take you.
Thank you for bringing back to 80s i was 12 years old captain EO and star tours was popular thing at that time. Maybe you should send Disney this video so they rethink somethings .
I wish those in power at Disney would watch this and some of my other videos. More importantly, read the comments and see what people feel about the creative path they have chosen since this time. The Disneyland in this video was so much simpler to enjoy. You could just enjoy the day and not be glued to you phone checking Lightning Lane reservations, inaccurate wait times, dining reservations, mobile ordering and the rest. You picked up a map and daily schedule on the way in, stuck it in your hip pocket and only rediscovered it when you got home because you were just enjoying your day so much, you forgot you had it.
I remember those days, and I don’t miss the parking lot where DCA and Downtown Disney is now. I do miss that we were able to see the park from the 5 freeway off ramp and the sky buckets. I haven’t been there in while, now I heard about horror stories like the measles outbreak (pre Covid), or we’re playing Pokémon go at the parks, and the Disney Adults streams whine I wish would put their cameras away.
I like the convenience of the old parking lot where, if you lucked out, it was a short walk to the entrance. And yes, I hate oblivious people on their phones that stop in the middle if the walkway to check their Disney app.
Another excellent video Mark! The beginning of the video is from 1986. Adventure Thru Inner Space sign and the Totally Minnie Parade are still there. Star Tours opened in January 1987. I was working in the Parking Lot back then. I now work in the Disneyland Fire Department. I love watching your great work. Thanks for sharing
@@MDSPresents Yes I have! I miss the 80’s. I just hope all the expansion projects bring some fresh ideas to the resort. Keep up the great work. By the way, did you ever work for Disney? Take care. Dean
@@550Deano Yes, I worked for Disney imagineering in the early '90s. Nothing spectacular, I was in the security department. It was a great time to wander through the buildings and see what was coming up. I think you bring up a key point about fresh ideas. I worked at the Emporium from July ‘87 to December’89. It was a great place to work. Very busy during the summers. I got to pick my summer shifts so I chose Guest Control 4pm - 12am for the MSEP (Tuesday - Saturday). Best summer shift in the Park IMHO. The clip from 1986 is where "Adventures Thru Inner Space" is closed off because its replacement "Star Tours" was under construction, and it would open in early 1987. As much as I enjoy "Star Tours', I still miss "Adventures Thru Inner Space".
I have a memory of the day that I recorded that, I was specifically walking to tomorrowland to record adventure through inner space and was disappointed to see that it was all boarded up. Thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed it!

@@MDSPresents I miss the sky buckets and when all the characters were Disney, not marvel. In the future, we will see ice age and Simpsons walking around 😅 I heard in the Tiana's splash mtn ride, they're not having much electronics. You can't even spin the tea cups anymore nor the ride for Roger rabbit (it's slowed down heavily) I feel like it's more star wars now land/amusement park. And yes, the new ride is cool and all, but I am not into star wars and I miss in the old days it was strictly Disney characters. I would like more of a Disney feel like it used to be. Disney California adventure misses on that mark, too with it feeling more like a carnival/marvel place.
@@MDSPresentsI agree. It’s easy to default and say ‘things were better back then’, but in some ways they really were. The ability to just go enjoy the day leisurely really seems to be gone

Many Thanks to you Sir👍👍👍Most gracious for the Preservation🙌💯
A very BIG thank you for this. I have watched many, many videos on UA-cam, and nothing compares to this video. I am a avid vintage Disneyland memorabilia collector. This is a GREAT time machine. A lot of people do not understand what they missed. This was when Disneyland was still Walt's Disneyland. Burl Ives voice. So iconic. So much is now gone, and I get it, you have to make way for the "new" The "Skyway and People Mover" are sorely missed, and they should bring them back. It gave visitors a great view of the park that you just don't have anymore besides the Monorail, which is not the same. The "Sky Way" also provided an alternate means of getting around in the park. Nowadays, you have to walk every where, or take the train. It took more congestion off the streets. If only we could really go back in time 😊 Again, GREAT job on this. I am 61 now and I still go to Disneyland. I will watch this over and over again just to be able to catch the small details that I didn't back when I went as a young man. Your time to do this is very appreciated ❤❤

Great stuff Mark as always! You are the only person I know that gets younger looking with age!!! There are a couple things that caught my eye. I would love to see them bring the Skyway back! I forgot about people climbing up the Matterhorn. Love that! Driving the boats was so much fun! It was like Autopia on water! Those Rocket Jets were far better than what is there currently. America Sings was one of my mom's favorite attractions. As a huge Star Wars fan, who doesn't love Star Tours!!!! Country Bear Jamboree was just such a classic!! And was a great escape on those hot summer days!! Pets at the Haunted Mansion were a creative idea! OMG the prices for snacks (sodas/chips) were probably 1/10 of what they are now!!! Fireworks should be watched from anywhere in the Park!!! Last but not least, Main Street Electrical Parade will ALWAYS be a true classic! Fantasic job, Mark! I really enjoyed the stroll down memory lane. The minimal amount of commentary allowed the footage to tell the story! Once again, great job!!!!!!
First, it appears there has never been a time when Disneyland wasn't crazy busy. Second, at 12:35 you can see the shadow of that beast of a camera you had to haul around. Bravo, man. You know that weighed a ton.
Good eye, and thanks so much for giving it a look. With battery and tape that camera weighed right around 9 lb. After a day at Disneyland using the shoulder strap, there was a bruise on my shoulder 😁 We do seem to forget that Disneyland was crowded back in the day as well, but somehow it felt less crowded? If that even makes sense. I think it was all equal opportunity back then. No lightning lane no fast pass, you just got in line and waited with everybody else. I think that made the lines go faster thus you could go on more rides and overall have a more enjoyable time even if it was crowded. I loved this era of Disneyland though. So many great memories
this is a great time capsule of one of my favorite disneyland eras. i got my first annual passport in 1987, and had one until the pandemic shut down in 2020. i haven't been back since the park re-opened because i don't approve of the reservation system. it's been hard not going to my home away from home since childhood, but videos like these help a lot. i did figure out the 1986 clip. it starts at 12:05. i can tell because the adventure thru inner space sign is still up, but the attraction is behind construction walls for the creation of star tours which opened in january 1987. also america sings is still open.
Thank you so much for watching Danny. I really appreciate it. You're right about the '86 clip So you have a very good eye and an appreciation of Disney history. I know what you mean about the post pandemic restrictions. I haven't been since 2019. The experience has just changed from one of spontaneity to one necessitating the overuse of a cell phone. Check your genie plus, check your mobile order, etc. I want to just go and enjoy Disneyland at my own pace.
@@MDSPresents totally agree. they keep taking away what we love, and give us little in return. fast passes used to be free, now genie plus and lightning lane cost you more on top of the already inflated admission price. when i made my first comment i hadn't finished the video. a couple other things that stood out were the tour of the inside of fort wilderness, and the price of snacks. a buck for a root beer and 55 cents for a cookie. those were things i would always get on the island, and then stand outside the fort waiting for the mark twain to go by. also you have the only footage of videopolis i have seen on your tube! i loved hanging out there on summer nights. thank again for this great trip into the past.

Thanks for this. I remember when the longest line I ever waited in at the time was for Space Mountain at 120 min. and that was highly unusual. In fact a long line in general was only about 45 to 50min. The norm back then, 20 min. Oh and a 3 day park ticket was about 40 bucks. Ahh, the good old days indeed!
You're right. It seems that the lines were managed much better back then. Of course everybody was equal and you didn't have people cutting in front of you with lightning lane passes. If Disney is looking to control the lines, I'm wondering if we shouldn't just go back to ticket books?

I have plans to take over Disney myself and make it great again in part by taking Disneyland back to these days and keeping it frozen there. So many attractions will be resurrected like the Skyway and the Peoplemover. Everything will be done by asking "What would Walt do?" again like Disney did in these days for decades after his passing.

Thanks for having a look, Max. I don't think smoking was restricted at Disneyland at this time. You couldn't smoke inside or in line, but other that that it was pretty much open season.
Character interactions have sure changed since this was shot. We used to need to conserve our film or risk needing to buy overpriced film at a Disney kiosk. These days we all have a camera with unlimited pictures in our pocket. Also in 1987 character meet and greets were not treated as attractions with waits of an hour to take a pic with Mickey.
1984 I used to go to Disneyland after college classes with my buddies 3 or 4 days a week; nothing else to do but go to the beach or Disneyland, (& most of us lived by the beach so that was not a thrill). Anyway, in '84 it would have been to cool to have had a VHS camera but they were too expensive. No image stabilization, crappy lens, no performance in low light, & truly low resolution. Ha! But too cool in '84. The best rides were Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. Long lines also at Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. No toon town back then but we did have some of the lamest rides ever dating from the late '50s in Tomorrowland. There was one where you moved through grainy black and white projected photos taken through electron microscopes. The narration was some dull guy telling you that you're shrinking down to the size of an atom. And then it was over! Woohoo! Excitement and then some! Glad you showed the PeopleMover. It was so fun on the days it wasn't actually broken down. Actually, if you were never on the PeopleMover when it broke down then you'd never really "done" Disneyland. My one piece of wisdom about enjoying Disneyland: go to whatever has the shortest line no matter what it is - it'll still be fun and that way you'll spend all day on rides and not in lines.
My video camera was a JC Penny (Panasonic) 5300 and it cost me $1200 in 1986. I still have it. All that you said about the performance is true, but in '87 it was one of the best available. I have a video where I rode all the Fantasyland dark rides with my after-market video light on. What I have tried to do with all my videos is enhance these old tapes the best I can to bring out the best. Thank you for watching!
I believe that's a sentiment shared by many Tori. It was just a different place all together. No fast pass, genie plus or mobile ordering. Just enjoying Disneyland as it is.

I might be a bit biased, but I believe Disneyland was at its best in the 80’s and early 90’s. BTW, I graduated in ‘87 🎉😊 Thanks for the memories.
No Bias as you're absolutely correct! It was a great time at Disneyland! No upsell, just come in and enjoy!
💯
I like how all the dads attire were all similar back then. I miss this Disneyland the most.
I agree. It was such a great Disney era.
I haven't actually been to Disneyland in a few years just because the crowds and the upcharging is putting me off
Those were the days. Captain E.O., rockets on top of ppl movers, Bear Jamboree, Fort Wilderness, Live Bands, and Video-opilous.
I think I miss the Rockets most. It makes no sense where they moved it. It's less of a ride experience and creates a choke point.
😃YES!... "America Sings"...That Sam the Eagle Sure sounds a lot like BURL IVES 😉😏
Thanks for this cool upload!!! I was a kid there that year and we didn't have a camera this nice to capture it back then. 😁 👍
@@LaserSplatter thank you so much for stopping by and giving it a look! I can't tell you how much I appreciate people viewing the video and sharing their memories. A lot more Disney memories on my channel should you care to check it out. Thanks again
Sad that it's gone. We would have loved to see it!
1987 was the first time I went to Disneyland so watching this is unlocking memories from a 6 year old me. Thank you so much for this.
Happy to rekindle those old memories! This video brings back so many memories of a park that is gone.
Thanks for sharing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. That’s amazing memories I went to grad night 1987. It’s just another time 😢😢😢😢.
Wow seeing the entrance to Tomorrowland @ 12:10 brought back so many wonderful memories of Disneyland. Thanks for the upload!
Man…. This video makes me so nostalgic. The park back then was so much more magical. New Disney sucks now.
I think what I loved about this era was that you could still be spontaneous. No park or ride reservations, no mobile ordering. Just wandering where your feet take you.
Best time to be alive. I was 17 back then.
It really was. You could just enjoy the park without the distractions they have instituted since then.
I appreciate your comments so much and thank you for watching! You have really seen a lot of change at the park.
Modern imagineers just don't seem to have that same spark that was there in previous decades. They seem to shoehorn in ideas where they don't belong. Nonetheless, we shall remain ever hopeful!

Great job of capturing the "good old days" at Disneyland. Thanks for sharing!
The park really has changed! Thanks for watching!
😊I was there for Halloween in 1987' ...with my 5 yr. ild niece ....she absolutely loved the "Tahitian Terrace dinner show".. 🥰
Classic! This is awesome.
Thanks for giving it a watch!
I had so many interesting experiences, met a lot of interesting and wonderful people (both guests and fellow cast members,) and made several lifelong friends there. Also met my wife of now 30 years when we both worked there. Thank you for sharing this! 👍🏼😎❤️
Thank you so much for stopping by and having a look! Much appreciated.
Thanks so much! Loved seeing this. I miss lots of those things, but I was surprised to see how much hasn't changed too.
Thanks for watching! This was a fun video to put together. So much has changed!
This is amazing! I was in high school and life was still nice. What a happy flashback ❤
Thank you so much for watching!
Disney was so much more magical back then❤
You're so right! And allowed you to be spontaneous. No mobile order, no genie Plus. Just the ability to enjoy the park on your own schedule. That's one of the biggest things that I miss about modern Disney. They've all but eliminated spontaneity. Thank you so much for watching and for your wonderful comment

Was 11 years old when I visited Disneyland in California and it was in December of 1987. All of those rides were awesome especially riding the Disneyland railroad from tomorrowland to mainstreet USA.
It certainly was a much different park than what we see today. Thanks for watching!

I had just graduated High school! I remember it well! Man do I miss those times...
It really was a different park back then.
The best Disneyland video from the 1980s
Thank you so much and I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it!
If only we could really go back in time 😊
Again, GREAT job on this. I am 61 now and I still go to Disneyland. I will watch this over and over again just to be able to catch the small details that I didn't back when I went as a young man. Your time to do this is very appreciated ❤❤
@@blinkicb546 WOW! Thank you so much. You pretty much nailed the reason why I made this video and the other ones on my channel. Grad Night 1987 (June 19) was my first ever DL trip. As it was dark, I had no real context of the overall layout, so this was great to watch. And so many attractions that have since gone. Since 2012 we go 2-3 times per year.
That's a great memory and thank you for sharing. A lot of those deleted Disneyland attractions are on my channel, so feel free to check those out and have some great reminisces!
Just look at the open spaces not filled by people. I went recently and just felt crushed. I miss the ability to casually walk and not feel rushed and not having to veer out of peoples way.
I think you nailed it with "Casually walk" Sadly those days seem to be behind us. The last time I went I was amazed with how many people were staring at their phones as they walked, oblivious the what was around them.
My first Disneyland visit was in the summer of 89 this brings back so many memories
I worked at the park at that time I lived at at Disneyland it was a great place to work
Where did you Work? Any favorites?
AWE!!! I was a kid and at Disney in 1987. THank you!

this is a great time capsule of one of my favorite disneyland eras. i got my first annual passport in 1987, and had one until the pandemic shut down in 2020. i haven't been back since the park re-opened because i don't approve of the reservation system. it's been hard not going to my home away from home since childhood, but videos like these help a lot. i did figure out the 1986 clip. it starts at 12:05. i can tell because the adventure thru inner space sign is still up, but the attraction is behind construction walls for the creation of star tours which opened in january 1987. also america sings is still open.

I worked in the parking lot and Main St at the time and was probably there when you filmed this.
Would have been super fun if you found yourself in the video!
I worked at the French Market and Hungry Bear Restaurant at that time. We may have crossed paths at some point.
The 5 Characters who were of my highest priority back in the 1980s.
Minnie > Aurora > Alice > Mary Poppins > Wendy
Character interactions have sure changed since this was shot. We used to need to conserve our film or risk needing to buy overpriced film at a Disney kiosk. These days we all have a camera with unlimited pictures in our pocket. Also in 1987 character meet and greets were not treated as attractions with waits of an hour to take a pic with Mickey.
THANK YOU FOR THIS 🥰
It's my pleasure! Hope you enjoyed some good memories!
Actually, the thing that everyone shoul notice right off the bat...the approximately 20-50 pd avg weight difference of human beings🙌
Wonderful video!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy that you enjoyed it. There is certainly a lot of nostalgia there

It struck me as I was putting together this segment, how much more there was to do in Tomorrowland back then.
Awesome!!
Thanks for checking it out! So glad you enjoyed it
I really missed those “look” of Disneyland.
Me too. It's nice to relive it, even for a short while.
Wish Disneyland would bring back sky cabins
I was there in 1985 I was five at the time
I would like to go back to disneyland in 1989.
I believe that's a sentiment shared by many Tori. It was just a different place all together. No fast pass, genie plus or mobile ordering. Just enjoying Disneyland as it is.
