My favorite "footsaver" ride at Disneyland. I'd ride it when my feet were starting to hurt, and never had to stand in line for it, which was a bonus. And riding it at night was even more awesome! You'd look down on the park all lit up in bright and colorful lights below and around you, and the World of Tron seemed more menacing entering it when it was dark outside. I loved it then and I miss it now.
Hah - funny you say that. I remember the automated ramps going up to the ride, if you put your feet on the edges of the ramp, you got a free foot massage which was needed after a long day at disneyland lol
People did die (idiots who jumped out of the cars), but that wasn't the reason they took it out. They tried to convert it into a high-speed thrill ride called Rocket Rods, which not only rarely worked, but damaged the track so it couldn't be used any more. The one in Orlando (which is a bit different) is still running.
This was every parents favorite ride because it gave them a chance to relax for a bit before getting back out there and having to deal with the kids and crowds.

Wow, this sure brings back memories. Disneyland was almost a home park to me during the 1990's, even though I lived nowhere near it. I somehow managed to visit the park 6 times that decade from Colorado and then Texas while living on minimum wage (no way you could do that today!). This is Tomorrowland as I knew and loved it. It has never been the same since it's late 1990's "upgrade."

To the people that post these old videos, thank you so much, they're like windows in time. I remember going in the late 80's when I was in high school, this takes me back.
Thanks for posting this. It was a chance to relive a time long forgotten. I know one must change with the times, but it was exciting to relive this time of nostalgia. Many thanks.
I miss these times. Like others have stated, this ride was a great midday relaxation point. And a good overview of the land, attractions, etc. you could get on or off and different points, get on another ride, or even end your day & get on the monorail to leave. I was born in 1986, in San Diego; & I can recall my parents blessing us with a trip to Disneyland every year, either around Easter, Halloween or Xmas. The excitement at seeing the Matterhorn peak from the freeway can’t be beat. And as I type this it’s just shown up in the video. Uncanny. Lol. Eventually we started staying multiple nights at the Disney Hotel Campground/RV Park when my dad randomly got a tent trailer. *Sigh.* Memories. Funny how attractions like People Mover can bring a flood of thoughts back in people’s minds… now I’m recalling; we would leave at or before sunrise from San Diego, secure our spot at the hotel, & possibly swim for an hour. But for sure we’d then ride the monorail to Magic Kingdom. No later than 1 or 2 pm. We would usually end the day around 6-7, on the People Mover, and get our hands stamped to come back in a few hours. I used to love those repeat visit days. After getting back to the monorail, we had our favorite character dinner at Goofy’s Diner! Lol, Sometimes we’d go to Stromboli’s for a slightly “fancier” meal, where you could also watch the water light show. I don’t know if that Italian place is still there, but it was delicious, I remember. One cool part w the Disneyland Hotel was the various pools & lagoons, surrounded by “sand beaches” and lush tropical plants, that seemed like real natural springs. We were so stoked as kids, to discover they were actually for swimming. A great evening break before round two at the park! We always had our days structured somewhat like this. Provided the monorail WAS up and running, lol. I used to hate how the monorail stations posted a daily sign, stating which attractions would be closed for work that day. Lame! I was under the age of 10, saying “what a buzzkill! Let me get there & find out myself at least…” ummm spoiled kids much?? JK. I most looked forward to the “scary” rides like Matterhorn, splash mtn., thunder mtn., etc. So yes it was a buzzkill as a kid. Haha. Wow I went on a trip down memory lane, god damn. I just loved the hand stamp option, of return visits. I dunno, as a child it was like this Nobel peace prize-winning concept! Ha! That way we could spread out our time at the park, & not feel like we had to see it all in a short timespan.
I love Tron. It's one of my few favorite things to come out of Disney, as well as Marvel and Star Wars. I was always more of a WB fan. DC Comics, Looney Tunes... yessss.
Its especially heartbreaking because now I am older and a Tron fan, and the opportunity to go on this ride again and say, "HEY, ITS TRON!" would have been thrilling. Now all I have are my memories of this and a rediscovered appreciation for this experience. I can actually say that I went on the "Tron" ride before it was gone. Thank you so much for sharing this. You helped awaken a sense of wonder and magic in me and it is so appreciated.
Omg!! This was my favorite ride as a kid... I would ride this over and over as there was rarely too much of a line... And it was so neat to me... And its one of those things I wish my kids could experience!! Thanks for the flashback to my childhood!!
Thank you for this… this brought back good memories and had a tear in my eye. What good times these were… no phones, no social, no crowded, a simple life. Wish I could go back
Who ever thought of "hey lets use tracks that were meant for a slow ride and make a fast ride outta it" has the iq of room tempture. Edit: man. I forgot to thank you for even recording this. I was that mad about the rocket rods. But yeah. Thank you.
I enjoyed the Rocket Rods myself the one time I was there when they had the ride but I prefer the Peoplemover because of the view of Disneyland and the relaxed pace of the ride! I could put up my aching feet on the seat across from me and sit back and relax and enjoy the 13 minute ride! Oh I have the Rocket Rods on my video channel to!
I totally agree with you. Even though I have been a lifelong Disneyland fan and have been an annual pass holder for about 8 years now, the Disneyland I know & love is from the early 1990s. Could be the nostalgia, but some of the best times I had at Disneyland was when I was a kid during the 90s. I am 31 now :-/
Ahh, damn. My family visited Disneyland in 1989 and we didn't go on the Peoplemover. I have no idea why not - my parents would have loved it. I didn't make it back until 1989. This was long gone! Thank you for sharing this footage. Priceless.
Back to the future about 3 decades, I just came from a video about the new Tron cycle ride at WDW under construction (replacing the original Tomorrowland Speedway) Now I'm watching old footage of a Tron themed peoplemover at DL. Crazy cool.
I go to Disneyland every week, and I pray that they will once again restore it to its former glory. CircleVision movies, Mission to Mars, America Sings, Skyway To Fantasyland/Tomorrowland, and the Peoplemovers!
The PeopleMover is the most likely to return. I can't really find any suitable areas for CircleVision to return (unless they rebuild the Magic Eye Theater), the Skyway was closed due to cracks in the rolling battery support in the Matterhorn and lack of ADA compliance (plus people nowadays say it looked tacky), Mission to Mars, unless they update it, won't come back, and America Sings was made for the Bicentennial celebrations and they really needed animatronics for Splash Mountain.
BNSF1995 I know it's a long shot, but I prefer outdated attractions to what they have there now (mainly an empty and abandoned peoplemover track). and would it kill them to have us once again go "thru the world of tron?"
wow, SO many old attractions that are no longer there! Mission to Mars is now the red rocket pizza place, skyway's gone, people mover itself became rocket rods and has been closed now for 13 years, circlevision is now buzz lightyear, the tron part (upstairs of carrousel theater) is now entirely innoventions, the motor boats BEFORE they were the gummy bear boats, not pictured but the rocket jets above peoplemover, and poor poor star tours got hit the hardest... (lol)
Thank You MrDisneyfanman. I found this by accident and it made me so nostalgic. My experiences with Disneyland as a kid were never all good (cousins getting hurt, sick, whinny, always wanting to stop and get something to eat, rides broke down, breaking down) and I can't stand it now due to overcrowding (just by having a sign that says 6HRS FROM THIS POINT, they have no crowd limit controls - if the city fire marshall ever did his job, the park would get closed daily do to overcrowding during the on season), overpricing and the loss of magic due to corporate control. And yet watching this reminded me of those rare moments that were magic as a kid.
Thank you Stephen Cass for your comment and your for your ride in the past! I had a early morning pass an hour before Disneyland opened and was on the peoplemover just as Disneyland opened when I pass over Star Tours you can see the long line to get on Star Tours! I know Disneyland allows a Maximum capacity it can handle but I don't if it was the same as in 1990!
I had a early morning Disneyland pass that let you in an hour before the park opens! The third ride I went on that morning was the Peoplemover! Near the end of the ride is about the time the park was filling up with the Disneyland guest! Thank you for your cool comment!
@Adiel Alfonso You're correct. I went to Disneyland a bunch of times when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s(i grew up in the san fran bay area) and it definitely wasn't as ridiculously crowded as it these days. Although to be fair, it seems to have improved some in the last couple of years. I think Disney's constant raising of ticket prices has started to have it's intended effect of shrinking down the crowd sizes...
Of all my dozen Disneyland trips since the early 80s, I only used the PeopleMover one time, in 1993. I distinctly recall the excitement of getting a better view of the X-wing above the Star Trader store.
This is a great post! I am incredibly thrilled to have watched this video. And at the same time, it is quite depressing to be reminded of what once was truly amazing. Frankly, with their Tomorrowland redesign 17 or 18 years ago... they ruined Tomorrowland. Now that the DCA renovation is 1 year complete, I hope they turn their Imagineers' attentions to Tomorrowland and right all the wrongs from the past 20 years.
I was born in the late 90's so i never got to use this. I love disney but it does get exhausting dealing with crowds and walking to each section of the park. Wish they still had it.
Thank you very much for sharing your video and taking us old timers back to how Disney looked to us when we were young and how we remember it. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this. I was 13, if this was summertime, and I have very clear memories of Disneyland from around this time. Not only was I born there (so I went very frequently) but I still continue to visit L.A. and return here.
Thank you so much Mr disney man !! This brings back memories to me as a high schooler and going on my first date (Disneyland) hehe.. Great videos ! Keep doing your thing, i support you. Much blessings.
Fantastic. Thank you for this. This is how I remember Disneyland back when I got my first annual pass. What blows my mind is some of the shots towards main street and how empty the park was back then (on non holiday days).
6:37 Apparently another name for it was the Squeakermover. The lovely sounds of your car slamming around, about to fall apart and drop you over the side.
So cool... took me right back to the good old days of Disneyland. The only thing I miss more than the Peoplemover is the Skyway, but both of those simple yet amazing rides will be missed forever.
Thanks! I've often wondered if there was "full ride" footage of the Peoplemover. I miss that ride. Mellow and cool. I hope they bring it back in some revised form. The track is still there. (Unless the Rocket Rods created structural damage.)
Thank you for your comment, I wish they could bring back the ride too! I think the Rocket Rods did cause some structural damage also the old support beams of the peoplemover are too old for a new Peoplemover, they would need to tare down the old ones and put up new ones, thats lot of Disney money! This is absolutely gorgeous footage! Thank you for sharing this so we could ride this again! Still looking for footage of going inside adventures thru inner space, but Star tours is great too 💙
In case you were wondering which car this is at 2:57, this was car number thirty-one; which 3️⃣1️⃣ represents the number of the original flavors from Baskin Robbins ice cream.
Great video! Really make you wish for 25 years ago. Disney world still has it's Peoplemover and it's great. Those crowds back then are a lot better than today. Thanks for the share.
They need to bring this ride back. I've sadly never been on it (sadly too young), however looks like a very relaxing ride and great views of Tomorrowland. It added so much kinetic energy to Tomorrowland that has been lost since then. It was the highest capacity attraction in Disneyland, which not only took roughly 1000 people off of Disneyland's crowded walkways, but also meant that the PeopleMover hardly ever had a line, even on busy days. Disneyland could actually use the PeopleMover more than ever before, given how crowded the park is these days. The Rocket Rods were a complete and utter FAILURE and as of the writing of this comment the tracks have been abandoned for 20 years to the month. So because an incompetent management team decided to remove this ride, we have now had an abandoned track winding around Tomorrowland for the past 2 decades. R.I.P. PeopleMover 1967-1995
@@TheStreetFoolosopherMr187They should bring this back using the WDW ride system, but (If possible) with elevation changes like this version. I agree the WDW tech is better.

Many thanks.
wallybug Thank you for your very nice comment!
By the way thats why I taped it the way I did, I wanted a video memory of the whole ride!
*Sigh.*
Memories.
Wow Disneyland used to be so green. What happened?
Tron was always my favorite part! Thanks for the upload!
I love Tron. It's one of my few favorite things to come out of Disney, as well as Marvel and Star Wars. I was always more of a WB fan. DC Comics, Looney Tunes... yessss.
The Peoplemover was superior riding it at night!
Indeed! The monorail, too!
Thanks for the flashback to my childhood!!
candy graves Your very much welcome and thank for your cool comment!
Thank you for this… this brought back good memories and had a tear in my eye. What good times these were… no phones, no social, no crowded, a simple life. Wish I could go back
Thanks for sharing memories of my childhood. 😢
Who ever thought of "hey lets use tracks that were meant for a slow ride and make a fast ride outta it" has the iq of room tempture.
Edit: man. I forgot to thank you for even recording this. I was that mad about the rocket rods. But yeah. Thank you.
And you fucking remove Corey's villainous computer voice while you're at it... for DCAU fans, that voice is HISTORY right there.
Thank you.Matterhorn Matt is right. This is the best footage Ive seen of a beloved classic ride that the Rocket Rods destroyed.I miss the Tron tunnel.
The Tron tunnel seems so cool!
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 it was awesome.
@@chain_sawyer7469 Yeah, and Corey Burton's villainous computer voice is a prototype of his Brainiac voice.
Wow, I forgot how long the ride was! Thx for sharing !!!
what a time to be alive
My dad used to work on the People Mover.
Kool from what yr and please follow me on UA-cam #DisneyDiva and thank you and be safe and sound.
That's awesome
Awwww! I miss the peoplemover. One of my favorites when I was little.
i miss riding this ride....thank you!!! the memories!!!
I was 6 in 1990 and this is the beautiful Disneyland I know!!! I worked there for 3 months in 2002 and haven't been back (no desire)
Priceless.
A terrific throwback to childhood for us 40 something people. Thanks for filming and posting a ride long gone.
Dont forget the old adventures thru inner space ride
i have not. bring it all back. i don't care what it costs!
thats the spirit!!
wow, SO many old attractions that are no longer there! (lol)
Thanks for sharing a blast from the past!
Wonderful. This footage is gold. Disneyland at its peak.
Disneyland looks so empty, I remember days like that. Sadly now, it's always crowded :(
I had a early morning Disneyland pass that let you in an hour before the park opens!
@vio2112
In my opinion, presently all the ride queues are packed all the time!
Getting rid of the PeopleMover was actually a primary factor in Disneyland becoming more crowded, thanks to it's enormous capacity!
This was such a chill, kick back ride. Perfect when you needed a rest. This and the skyway.
I miss this ride dearly.
Your video is priceless! It captures many other rides that are now extinct too. Thank you so much for sharing!
Laura Ashcraft Your welcome and thank you for your priceless comment!
Heres an idea! BRING BACK THE PEOPLEMOVER! I never got to ride it since I wasnt born in the 90s
+Bro3256Films Sounds good to me!
I was born in the late 90's so i never got to use this. I love disney but it does get exhausting dealing with crowds and walking to each section of the park. Wish they still had it.
Thanks for the upload!! Seriously.
+danakscully64 Your Welcome!
I wish these old attractions should be reopen with advanced technology to be safer like they brought back the subs.
Justin Gamino Thats a cool idea!
Thanks for the cool comment!
Instead of gaxaly edge they should bring back all the old rides.
This is still one of my all time favorites. The sound of it alone took me back in time. Love it. Thank you!!
Your welcome Suzie and thank you for your nice comment!
Thank you very much for sharing your video and taking us old timers back to how Disney looked to us when we were young and how we remember it. Thank you!
Disneyland seriously needs to bring this back. Now it's just an eyesore in Tomorrowland.
I don't think it's eyesore I think it's Disney's forgotten past history!
I want them to bring this ride back too!
Completely agree
Thank you for posting this. I was 13, if this was summertime, and I have very clear memories of Disneyland from around this time.
Not only was I born there (so I went very frequently) but I still continue to visit L.A. and return here.
Thanks for sharing; that was amazing!
Thank you so much Mr disney man !! This brings back memories to me as a high schooler and going on my first date (Disneyland) hehe.. Great videos ! Keep doing your thing, i support you. Much blessings.
Sarah Rose Thank for your kind comment Sarah Rose and I really do miss the ride myself too!
Heres some of my Peoplemover links you might want to check out....

Congratulations on the video and bringing so many fans of the WEDWay the enjoyment of vicariously enjoying the ride again!
+Golden Pacific Media Thank you very much for your comment!
This was one of my favorite rides!
Very well done, especially since it was real film from a real camera and not a phone. So many memories, so many changes. How I wish the people mover was still with us in DL
This is actually rather fascinating. Thank you for uploading this. The only time I've ever been to Disneyland was in 89 so it's particularly fantastic to relive those old memories with your video.
4:40 Probably just maintenance at the time, but I like to imagine the Rocket Jet rocket actually blasted off.
This is absolutely gorgeous footage! Thank you for sharing this so we could ride this again! Still looking for footage of going inside adventures thru inner space, but Star tours is great too 💙
Here is a 1980 video of PeopleMover going through Inner Space: ua-cam.com/video/rR0zwEA6Yc4/v-deo.htmlsi=JSL5n-nY8eAEpbKL
@@benjaminroberson1924 wow, thank you so much!!! 💙💙💙
Very fondly remember this attraction. I was too afraid to ride since it looked like it could tip over!
I used to go in this a lot when I was a kid. My mom was a performer on the stage in Tomorrowland that comes up out of the ground.
Man I hope one day Disneyland decides to bring back the people mover.
This was a good ride to chill on and relax!!
The People- Mover. One of the best attractions in Disneyland. Takes me back. Loved it in the 60s
In case you were wondering which car this is at 2:57, this was car number thirty-one; which 3️⃣1️⃣ represents the number of the original flavors from Baskin Robbins ice cream.
ICE CREAM DAY!!
Great video! Really make you wish for 25 years ago. Disney world still has it's Peoplemover and it's great. Those crowds back then are a lot better than today. Thanks for the share.
+kevmelbel your welcome for the share!
It's people like yourself that I enjoy sharing my old Disneyland videos with!
so glad theres still a peoplemover at disneyworld, otherwise id never have gotten the chance to experience this classic ride
Thank you...this is the Disneyland I remember as a 14 year old kid.
Thanks for sharing! My son and I loved it when he was a kid. A good resting place, kind of noisy, but we didn't care. Wish they had left it alone too!
Love this footage! So hoping the rumors are true that Disneyland is bringing back the Peoplemover.
When I was on this attraction I remembered the Disney movie TRON.
I miss this so much!!
Great piece of history!
People Mover 2.0 with DisneyWorld'd technology but more updated
@@TheStreetFoolosopherMr187They should bring this back using the WDW ride system, but (If possible) with elevation changes like this version. I agree the WDW tech is better.
