Failed part. Both my fuel pump 1800.00 and my water pump 3000.00 failed 15,000 miles apart. Intake fail was what I put in shop for. Mechanic said just a vacuum hose was off, but my water pump was leaking, needs r&r. $3000. later I pick up, drive 10 miles and engine light comes on. Return to shop, they are putting on new intake today. Then I looked you up! Thank you, Man! A real answer in about 3 minutes.
FYI... the solenoid and the arm are parts you can buy individually at places like Rock Auto so the intake manifold can be repaired at a lower cost now.
Mr Humble: I cannot thank you enough for your video. I have had three manifolds on my Volkswagen CC, and the third has failed. I have to drive for my job-I need my car!!, I have no time due to my two small kids, and I have other car expenses due to being hit by an uninsured driver. I loather the prospect of paying out for a new manifold. I just snapped back in the little are you described and my car is running great!!! No fast slow idle, but now a smooth idle. I cant thank you enough!!!
TY so much for posting this video. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out a misfire on Cyl 4. I replaced the usual suspects, ignition coil and spark plug, with no effect. After watching your video I checked and discovered the arm had popped out. Popping it back in fixed the misfire. I guess I will be replacing the entire manifold with the new version eventually, but for now I'm back on the road.😃
If manufacturers would stop using plastic for shit that shouldn't be plastic it would stop a lot of problems that exist. Manifolds and water pumps and coolant pipes shouldn't be plastic.
Thanks for the great info. The car was flagging the 2015 and 2187 codes. After watching this video I found the input shaft had backed out. I put a little pressure on it and moved the vacuum shaft and it popped right back in. Now it has a very smooth idle.
Thank you for the information! I have an '09 Passat 2.0T TSI, it has 121k miles so of course it is 1k miles over the extended warranty that VW issued out for the intake manifold.
My intake didn't fail but when it came time to do another valve cleaning I decided to change it since the car now has 160K miles. The actuator and flapper were all nice and tight. Boy were those valves and injectors gunked up ugly. I'm not surprised it was running so poorly after seeing that. Thanks for the video..
Having this issue now with my 2015 Audi A5. P2015 code, no issues. Apparently in 2017 they've fixed the issue with an updated manifold. It's available on ECS for $285 with install kit. I'll be upgrading mine soon. Thanks for the help.
Just as I was thinking "would be nice to see a DIY removal video" I hear you say there's a link in the description! Guess where I'm going now!? Great series, looking forward to next week's video.
Me epc and check engine light turned on and the rpms would rise so I having a drive ability issue at a stoplight..this video prevented me form buying an intake manifold and found out the part that’s attached to the actuator was loose thank you so much for this video you just gained a sub
Even though I don't own a VW, I still watch all your videos and I find them fascinating. Really quality information, and I think a lot of things can carry over to other makes. Just wish you worked at a nissan dealership! :)
Hi, and sorry for the delay. I did a little research and the manifold was covered by a factory part warrant, and the repair cost me nothing. The dealer even gave me a loaner for the day they had my car. Thanks Findley VW Las Vegas.
2010 vw CC is covered until 2019/120k miles...just had the manifold replaced (flappers were sticking) and a carbon cleaning....the fuel injectors are also covered until 2019/120k miles
+Kyle Hurst I just had this happen to me and just got back from the VW Dealership. They stated that they updated the warranty to 120K miles. They did charge me for carbon cleaning which was 2 hours, and $15 of chemicals. Car runs considerably better. Thanks for the update on extended warranty on the fuel injectors also.
+Michael Aurzada no problem! glad I could help a fellow driver haha. I also had them fix two oil leaks since they had access to them with the manifold off...not cheap lol
I had a newer tiguan at work a while ago. Brought it in had misfires across all cylinders, random miss, boost code, and some lean conditions and drivability complaint. The peice popped out like you said I sent customer to the dealer for warrenty extension once I had diagnosed. Cool video thanks. suscribed
I feel as if the egine is is very good, I have a 2010 vw cc with a 120k miles, when the water pump failed due to the pcv seal leaking, I just went a head and did everything all together, Intake, seals and gaskets for injectors, new pump and belt, walnut blasted the intake on the cylinder head, and mind you this is the only thing that i have done besides oil and filter changes
I had a very rare 6 series V-12 BMW, pre OBDII,pre check engine light that failed emissions (high HC),we sold the car, I did the used car check out. Part of the check out did not involve checking if it would pass emissions. By 2002 our Dealership did not posses a 2 or 3 gas analyzer (no analyzer of any type) and no "Sun machine" type device to check primary and secondary ignition performance. The car had heated cats. I worked off two known issues (intake manifold leaks) and secondary ignition wires failing. Just disconnecting a secondary wire at the spark plug will damage the wire, our cost for wires was 300.00 per side,(two sides). Customer pay on intake reseal was 5.0 hrs, with plenty of old fuel line to replace. I did the wires and the intake reseal and it still failed. I said "any further work by me will be paid straight time" I rolled my box out that day and right into a GM Dealer that same day. I made the most money I ever made at that Dealer but all good things must come to an end.
Had to replace this over the weekend on my gti. Let me tell you, that bigass metal bracket running through the middle made me question my life choices.
Hi cool video ! Do you know why the arm pops out ? If i buy a new intake manifold , can i pull the arm out like you did in the video or will this not be possible ?
My manifold failed on me 5 days ago, we saw the check engine light and got the P2015 code at 65000+ miles. Took the car to dealer and the manifold was cover by the extended warranty. Thanks for the heads up on that. We had the work done that you suggested and it cost us $525.00. Idk if they pulled a fast one on us, but they said if we did not change the spark plugs the car may start to back fire. so we changed them too.
Hello, I was happy to see that a video exist to explain the dreadful error code P2015 "Potentiometre clapet tubulure admission - Signal incoherent" in French. I have a Passat CC 2008 engine BZB 1,8 TSI. Although the warning lamp lit every day, the car is still working normally. I will go the VW rep here in Genva to ask for free replacmeeent (I'am dreaming. here is Switzerland nothing is replaced for free . I had to replace the Clutch kit of my DSG 7 at 42'000 km. Too much vibrations between 1st and 2nd gear) . But that's another story. Maybe it's the last time a will drive a VW. I'll have to find a car not made of plastic, lol
I had mine replaced on my 2009 vw golf gti. The lever wouldn't open and close the flaps properly. It cost me £932.00 these things shouldn't fail on a well engineered car. I've also had the updated timing chain tensioner fitted and latest revision water pump. Please God, no more problems. :-(
thanks for the video. I found it while troubleshooting P2014 fault on my 2015 Audi A3 (8V) (manifold runner position sensor). Car is running fine, but I would guess I need to get new manifold to clear this fault, although I may try to replace the sensor first.
Great to see these videos, great to know what is going on within the car, and why. Thank you so much, I can diagnose issues and save money so it can go to buying diapers and save some money, unfortunately I do not have so much money I can bring the shop in to fix all the time. appreciated!!!
I'm new to the VW family.. I just got a 2011 VW Passat cc 2.0 L turbo with 111,000 Miles in the clock... So I watch your channel to find out what to look for and what I'm getting into if I decide to keep this car... I need to check to see what kind of timing chain tensioner I have.. I have no service history on the car so I'm looking for things to possibly replace now... Lol
The back of the runner popping out can be fixed in place with a small pan head screw, like I did with mine. Pre-drill the hole and be sure to get it centered
Dude thank a bunch you remind me that this part was under a extended warranty....got a P2015 code fix for free at dealership on my CC 2014 :)...what a great day !
These videos are excellent! Really informative and its great to hear all of the details from a technician. Is there any particular reason why these intake manifolds are made out of plastic? I would feel that it's better to make it out of aluminium?
I just did this manifold on a 2009 Audi A4 due to the arm pooping out . Good idea to sell a valve carbon cleaning while doing the intake manifold . I get 2 more hours to do the valves .
Great way to describe. I was thinking about getting it checked out because I just got the code on OBD but I figure that’s waste of time because I will need a new one regardless
ECS tuning has now made a repair kit for this. Happened to my friends 2.0tsi the other day and I’m having to import that repair kit to the UK from the US. $65 I believe.
Flip! I just came back from vw, my vw cc 2.0 2012 has this exact problem, that exact part pops out, they said they will order it. I hope its under extended warranty.
2009 Tiguan mine replaced under warranty. Received letter stating recall. Mine went out at 60000. Interesting had it off and dealer stated carbon buildup. Argued that since intake off shouldn't the dealer clean carbon. I figured it should be done at a very reduced cost-quote was 500. I figured it was to get money back for the warranty repair. i wish the dealers would work with car owners on some of these known problems like carbon buildup. It only makes sense to me that if younhave the intake off clean the carbon. Pull runners start scraping and spray the carb cleaner suck it out and charge one hour labor. Why 500 dollars. I own two businesses and understand fixed cost and insurance and most of that is covered in your hourly rate.
That is odd they would charge $500 for that WITH the intake off. That is not much of a discount from full price. Here is how I handle that. If I have to take the intake off under warranty, I advise the customer that we are going to inspect for carbon. IF it needs attention will will charge 2 hours labor. That means they pay for only a bit of labor and nothing for removing the intake. VW generally doesn't pay for the carbon cleaning, even if the intake is off for replacement.
kkthxk I personally would not. But I would be doing the job myself. IF you are paying, it may be worth it. I forget the cost of the manifold, but the labor overlap is almost 100%
Has the 2019 GTI 2.0 intake manifold been upgraded by VW? I bought a new 2019 GTI Rabbit, 6 speed manual. Black. Only driven 900 km to date. Any concerns with this car? I will not be modifying the car in any way. I've store the car during the winter ( plenty of dry storage buildings at my farm ). My Dodge Durango 4x4 takes me through the winter here in The Great White North. As an interesting side note, the 7.5 GTI is proving popular amongst my fellow police officer colleagues, both active duty & retired. Excellent channel. Intelligent, concise, helpful, & without loud annoying music. Well done.
I just went through this on my 2015 A5 last week. However, mine is a flex-fuel car so the intake manifold is aluminum. With that the vacuum valve, lever, etc. bolt onto the manifold separately. I had a shop complete the repair (I was unable to find the right part), only $960 later :/ But it is all good now.
Have been watching some of your videos and subscribed. I work at a VW dealership but not as a tech. I enjoy your honesty and nice to see that you are a car guy :).
Hi, and thanks for all you do for others. I also have a 2010 cc with the arm popping out. I ran a tension spring from the actuator arm to a bolt sticking out from the engine. it's under every thing and it was a pain to put in. but since I have done this the arm has not popped out again. chec engine lite is still on, but it is drive able till I can replace the manifold. I will try and take a few pics or post a short vid if any needs it.
They shouldn’t charge you if that is the ONLY thing they find. VW pays diag on this issue. But if there are other things too, they can and maybe should charge you diag fee
Thank you sir for your knowledge. I have problems with my Tiguan and you told me a lot. subscribed now! Dumb comment but I’m listening to the next one while typing.
I really like all your videos. Thank you so much for putting them together. This one saved me a bunch of time and money as the little flap rotator thingy was popped out on mine making the car nearly undriveable. Brought to a VW mechanic and $400 dollars later nothing changed. I've managed to pop it back in but when I put my thumb over the end it's still pulling a small vacuum on my thumb. I'm guessing this isn't normal and the manifold should be replaced?
Fun fact ladies and gentleman, attempting to clean your intake valves without engine teardown can cause this failure as well. Though probably could be cleaned it will never work like new. I now have to replace my manifold
On my 2012 VW GTI the arm that controls the flaps open and closed snapped in half cause the carbon build up was so horrendous and the motor was trying so hard it snap it and then snapped the flaps closed. fun stuff.
I'm getting a 2013 gti and are hoping for the best. I want to know what you think about extended warranties for repairs from an insurance company. Idk if you would be the one to ask but I figured it wouldn't hurt.
Hello! Thanks for the video. My 2010 Passat, check engine light was on. Will the intake manifold effect my speed and performance on my car? Thanks again. JM
This was great. Hooked me up big time (the knowledge I picked up ahead of going to my dealer with a P2015 issue). My GTI '13 was NOT covered by VW America's extended warranty on this part that I read about but a combination of VW losing well deserved momentum due to Dieselgate and my handling of the service department lead to my 71k GTI getting a new Intake Manifold job at $0; I just offered to pay for the media blasting/cleaning of the intake port which I was quite happy to pay for. My GTI is running nicely now and while I'm somewhat frightened at what the next failure will be (having come from a JSW HP Fuel pump problem), I love VWs and am grateful to The Humble Mechanic for all that he puts in here. (do you sell those tee shirts?)
+EM white HELL YEA!!! Good call on the decarb too. As far as the shirts. I was working with a guy, but that fell through. I may do a pre order for another run of them. I'll keep everyone posted for sure.
For people with APR tunes It seems like a runner flap delete would solve pretty much all of these potential problems. No? APR now offers a free RFD software update for all tune stages. It seems all of the failure points mentioned are RF related, could you not just do a RFD rather than replacing the manifold?
Great video. So I have a stage 1 tuned 2.0Tsi and I've been having the following problems: 1) Cold start - until the cycle has finished (choke off) if I briefly press the gas, the engine will rev up by itself. 2) I have an intermittent problem where the boost comes in very linear on partial throttle - almost like vtec! 3) Sometimes with a steady right foot, and particularly when going up a hill I can feel the throttle pulsing and hear the DV dumping air.Only bolt-on modification is an air intake, car has been tuned to 269 bhp.Anything you can do to help me diagnose this will be massively appreciated.
Hi, I found many of your videos very helpful. I had a bad/stretched timing chain in my 2009 tiguan at 118,000 miles. I removed the head had a machine shop replace my valves, replaced cam chain, tensioner, guides, all new gaskets, new injector seals. I had the manifold replace from dealer a few years ago. But the hardest part of this job was trying to put the bracket on for the manifold. I saw an aftermarket high performance manifold that actually does not use the bracket. The car runs better than ever, but I did not install the bracket. With the 9 bolts and in throttle body intake hose holding the manifold in place it does not seem like it is needed. What is your thoughts?
My manifold had failed on me two days ago on a 2010 CC, the arm that was shown in video had popped out so i worked on the solution how to make it stay in it's place without replacing costly Intake manifold. I will update if it works.
ivinio G I ran a tension spring from the actuator arm to a bolt sticking out from the engine. it's under every thing and it was a pain to put in. but since I have done this the arm has not popped out again. chec engine lite is still on, but it is drive able till I can replace the manifold.
I ended up replacing the Air Intake Manifold to get rid of the check engine light, if it's ON it means something is up and i didn't want to cut corners. I'm not a mechanic but i did replaced the part myself, took me about 3 hours, and that includes the time i took to clean out the intake valves.
Guess what code I got today??? *P2015* at just under 83,000 miles. So in the past year I have had two coils fail, PCV failure, and the wonderful melting 30-amp fuse that causes the lights on the right half of the car to go out. I love my VW... Wait, I got that wrong. I love my 1991 Jeep YJ and my 2000 Ford E150 Cargo Van. Their reliable and cheap.
When I checked the price of the intake manifold I found out the intake on my 2010 EOS (POS) has a warranty extension on that part. I actually let the dealer replace it since it was free. I did pay them $282 to clean the intake valves while they had the intake off.
I'm having identical issues except that I do not have any engine codes beside for the light and my idle is vary sporadic will fly over 3000 rpm after I down shift
Thanks for the video So when you reach 3800 rpm the actuator arm move and stays open until you reduce the rpm Or when you reach 3800 rpm it moves open and close even if you keep the rpm 3800 Because mine when i reach 3800 rpm and keep it on 3800 the actuator arm moves open and close back so fast What i think is it must stay open until i reduce tge rpm
what a drama that modern engines Years ago it was the rottery (you could do something about it) but it is now the technology and you can do little against it Especially if there is programmed wear and repair is only done with "modules "that are sometimes 20 times as expensive compared to the old technique (same function)
Can't belive I haven't SUBBED you yet. Great video. My 2012 GTI just got a new IM under warranty and with my REVO tune mid RPM hard acceleration made the car surge. Anyways, I've been following you on Twitter and never realized YOU were the HumbleMechanic! Love these videos.
How about every single vacuum line on the B5 1.8t, as well as the FPR and Hazard Signal relay, not to mention sunroof controls tend to have a mind of their own
Charles, I hope you can answer a question for me: The girlfriend has a 2006 Passat 2.0 TSI with 56,000 miles. She got a check engine light, and the code reader showed: P2015, P2008, and P2181. I found your intake manifold replacement videos on Deutsche Autoparts and was all set to call the dealer, and that failing to order a manifold and thermostat to tackle the job. But... She took it to her local mechanic, who addressed the P2181 by changing the thermostat, and addressed the intake faults by changing the oil before clearing the codes (I kid you not). The car now shows: P0238 Turbo/Super Boost Sensor A Circuit, High Input. The P2015 and P2008 codes are absent. The car barely accelerates to 25 mph, and then does better. My suspicion is that either the intake tube is loose or damaged (as you mention having seen in your video), or that the boost sensor connector is loose, given that the aforementioned shop would have removed this tube to replace the thermostat. I'm taking a wild guess that this is somehow preventing the P2015 and P2008 codes, and that the defective intake still needs to be addressed, along with whatever is causing the P0238. Does this sound well reasoned to you? I want to be prepared with a new intake, if need be, when I lay hands on the thing. Thanks for your in depth vids, and for you time here.
Charles, new subscriber here(#1400 yay!) after seeing the collab with EE! i have some ideas for failed part videos: 1) 2.0 TDI BKD ASV failure (insanely expensive part) -in fact it's not only BKD, it fails all over the place- which shares fuse with radiator fan thus you end up overheating 2) porous head with microscopic cracks on early BKD which leaks coolant to the cylinder 3) 1.9 TDI US-spec (can't recall engine code) that has poor lube design for camshaft causing extreme wear 4) DMF failures on every DSG-equipped engine (had to change mine, rattled TOO much, another stupidly expensive part).
Congrats on being 1400, Thanks for subscribing. :) I will try and round up those things. TDI stuff is a little harder to come by than gas engines. I DO have a TDI balance shaft module that I will be doing a video on. That one will be a good one.
HumbleMechanic ¿why is that, tdi is not very popular in the states?. Ohhh yes, that horribly engineered(or if you're more devious "designed to break after warranty ends") balance/pump combo, looking forward to that
Thank you for this video! It helped show me exactly where the issue was with the manifold on my GTI. Have you seen the piece that connects the motor to the valve actually break off? The arm that comes off the motor is floating by itself in front of the whole in my intake.
Humble Mechanic, thank you for sharing your expertise... I viewed you video on removing the manifold. What experience with my CC one day was I started my car and it stalled which never happened, with a flashing CE light. Then I stayed it again and it had a rough idle, drove successfully with no light. Started in the morning with a CE light... throwing all codes 2015 and misfires, etc. checked out your video on replacing the manifold. CE Light is still one. No rough idle, smooth ride, maybe slight less power but nothing significant... do I need to erase CE? Thank you sir.
VW has an extended warranty and will replace the intake manifold if it's missing that lever/flap, my car was missing that so I got a new manifold for free. I'm not sure exactly what models they'll cover but who ever has this problem look into it. Might get lucky! This was on a 2011 VW cc 4cyl turbo
Can/should you clean out the intake manifold while its out for valve carbon deposit cleaning? In my mind i think it would be a great idea to brake clean all of the oil residue out of it to help keep the valves clean that much longer? I plan to do it with my Audi A4 2.0l turbo soon
Great video! I just got this error code for my 2014 GTI... unfortunately I’m out of PT warranty and of course, no warranty extension for my make/model 😂💀🤣. Good thing it’s not the lever arm so I can take some time to gather the $ to fix it out of pocket. Gg
If I have the p2015 pop up with a lean code as well will it hurt the car if I drive it home to fix it? Can I just pop the arm back in if it has popped out to seal the vacuum lean just to make it home? I just don’t want to drive it if it’s really running lean and will hurt the engine. Thanks for the help
@HumbleMechanic I have had the P2015 Code on for over 6 months now and didn't think much of it as I didn't any drive-ability issues with the car...... until it started getting cold out side (Below 45). For the first few minutes of driving the car will misfire and run rough. Once the engine gets up to optimal running temperature the hesitation goes away. Is that Intake Manifold Sensor Related or could that be the intake runner flaps being stuck by all the carbon deposits (my car has over 93,000 miles and I have yet to do a cleaning). I guess my real question is, could the intake flaps sticking cause a P2015 Code or am I short out of luck and I need to purchase a manifold. I'll be doing the carbon cleaning soon so it would make sense to replace the manifold while its off. Thanks again for the informative video.
I have the same issue that thing sometimes popes out then I push it then it runs for a week then pops up again do you think I should replace the whole mainfolds?
Failed part. Both my fuel pump 1800.00 and my water pump 3000.00 failed 15,000 miles apart. Intake fail was what I put in shop for. Mechanic said just a vacuum hose was off, but my water pump was leaking, needs r&r. $3000. later I pick up, drive 10 miles and engine light comes on. Return to shop, they are putting on new intake today. Then I looked you up! Thank you, Man! A real answer in about 3 minutes.

Peter Stern tell me
More... that arm popped off on mine. Are you saying that can be repaired without taking the whole thing out?
@@zecarioca2 Is it possible

If manufacturers would stop using plastic for shit that shouldn't be plastic it would stop a lot of problems that exist. Manifolds and water pumps and coolant pipes shouldn't be plastic.
plastic intake manifolds have been in use for some 20 years now and they are fine. Other parts, not so much.
Yeah but then they wouldn't be able to sell you the same part two or three times!
PCV valves
Thanks for the great info. The car was flagging the 2015 and 2187 codes. After watching this video I found the input shaft had backed out. I put a little pressure on it and moved the vacuum shaft and it popped right back in. Now it has a very smooth idle.
What do you mean by input shaft? I have the p2187 but not the p2015. Idling poor and sputtering and shutting off on cold starts

I’m an owner of a VW golf GTI 2.0 2011. Great car but that engine is full of problems. I’m tired of it.

Good fine! I had a dealer tech get their hut kicked by that. Thanks for liking the video and subscribing.
Really like the videos but after all the "TSI fails", I feel like I'm driving a time bomb :(
They have their issues for sure. But not the worst engine VW has had.

The sparkplug thing depends on how bad they are. Glad you got the rest fixed up.
That sucks!! You had all the failures. Sorry about that.
My MY10 had the manifold replaced...now I understand !
thanks for the video. I found it while troubleshooting P2014 fault on my 2015 Audi A3 (8V) (manifold runner position sensor). Car is running fine, but I would guess I need to get new manifold to clear this fault, although I may try to replace the sensor first.
watching today 2024!! haha
same! lol godbless youtube
Great to see these videos, great to know what is going on within the car, and why. Thank you so much, I can diagnose issues and save money so it can go to buying diapers and save some money, unfortunately I do not have so much money I can bring the shop in to fix all the time. appreciated!!!
Clear expalnation and answer to my doubt. Thank you very much from half the globe away.
I just followed your guide video on replacing the water pump, now I’m dry underneath but have the dreaded P2004. Thank goodness you’re here lmfao
Lol
how about intake valve cleaning on 2.0T FSI engines?
The back of the runner popping out can be fixed in place with a small pan head screw, like I did with mine. Pre-drill the hole and be sure to get it centered
May i see how you fixed that using a small pan head screw?
You should do the cam follower for 2.0TFSI engines. :)
Thanks a lot , your presentation was informative and clear walk through.
Dude thank a bunch you remind me that this part was under a extended warranty....got a P2015 code fix for free at dealership on my CC 2014 :)...what a great day !
Awesome
These videos are excellent! Really informative and its great to hear all of the details from a technician.
Is there any particular reason why these intake manifolds are made out of plastic? I would feel that it's better to make it out of aluminium?
leylandcarsloverslea Thanks! Plastics are generally cheaper, easier to make, and can be molded into shape faster
I just did this manifold on a 2009 Audi A4 due to the arm pooping out . Good idea to sell a valve carbon cleaning while doing the intake manifold . I get 2 more hours to do the valves .
Thanks for this video. Think I have this issue with my 2011 Tiguan. Was able to reset the light, so will drive and see if the problem occurs again.
I remember hooking up the scanner and getting a code for the intake flap, thankfully it had a test plan and life is easier :D
Great way to describe. I was thinking about getting it checked out because I just got the code on OBD but I figure that’s waste of time because I will need a new one regardless
dude. the was EXACTLY what was wrong with my gti. it fixed it right away.
+Angel Zuniga AWESOME!
ECS tuning has now made a repair kit for this. Happened to my friends 2.0tsi the other day and I’m having to import that repair kit to the UK from the US. $65 I believe.
Really?
@@emmanuelojo4004 yes. A little plastic cap with a few screws that keep the little arm from “popping out”. Google it.
@@tanuow mine went out I have it parked somewhere when I went to start it again after turning it off it wouldn’t start.
@@emmanuelojo4004 the same thing happened to my friends.
Flip! I just came back from vw, my vw cc 2.0 2012 has this exact problem, that exact part pops out, they said they will order it. I hope its under extended warranty.
SIPHAMANDLA MEHLOMAKULU was it?
@@zecarioca2 2011 and under yea.
this channel needs more subscribers.....considering how many VW's, Audi's, etc. are on the road.
+David Santiago thanks man. I appreciate it. Feel free to share it up. Haha
You have come a long way I'm proud of you bro
I just received a letter from VW for our 2017 Tiguan extending the warranty on the intake manifold to 10 years or 193,000km
How different is the US 2.0 TSI and the UK 2.0 TSI engine?
You sure this wasn't sponsored by Lava? :-P
Well done.
Yep it’s a very different intake on yours. So far the 2019 has been solid. A few problems I’m sure but nothing crazy. :)
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Gotta love that dealership life some times ;)
I will try and take a few pics or post a short vid if any needs it.
jdsmetalfab@aol.com also where can I buy the manifold?
jdsmetalfab@aol.com Your video is private. Some of those cars have a warranty extension in the US. Otherwise check out Deutsche Auto Parts
sorry, I made it public, I checked with the dealer and Mine isn't covered.
Yes. This part comes under warranty. HOWEVER the dealer will charge you a “diagnose fee” of $140 (at least at Findlay VW of Las Vegas).
Excellent video!!!
Dealing with this issue now on a 09 passat
On my 2012 VW GTI the arm that controls the flaps open and closed snapped in half cause the carbon build up was so horrendous and the motor was trying so hard it snap it and then snapped the flaps closed. fun stuff.
Yep I have heard of that happening too. I haven't personally seen that, but it doesn't surprise me.
JM
ROCK AUTO IS THE WAY!
I had this part replaced twice on my 2013 Jetta GLI. With 70k
Good videos man ! keep them coming
Thank you. I really appreciate it. Knowing you guys like them makes it way more fun to do.
Dorman actually makes a solenoid replacement for that now. Part number 667-108
Same problem. What did you have done?
Charles - many thanks for your expertise, by the way
I think you mentioned this subject today live at Milwaukee tools.
My manifold had failed on me two days ago on a 2010 CC, the arm that was shown in video had popped out so i worked on the solution how to make it stay in it's place without replacing costly Intake manifold. I will update if it works.
ivinio G Please do! And remember that some are under warranty extension so check with your local dealer to see if you qualify.
ivinio G
I ran a tension spring from the actuator arm to a bolt sticking out from
the engine.

+ivinio G good morning , you could solve the problem? I have the same bug
HAHA, those are pretty common issues. I had a 94 Jeep YJ. I loved it
When I checked the price of the intake manifold I found out the intake on my 2010 EOS (POS) has a warranty extension on that part. I actually let the dealer replace it since it was free. I did pay them $282 to clean the intake valves while they had the intake off.
I'm having identical issues except that I do not have any engine codes beside for the light and my idle is vary sporadic will fly over 3000 rpm after I down shift
The part you said that pops out is it meant to suck air in from their . When i put my finger over the hole theirs a suction
i just got the p2015 code at 30k. im TSI but its the same concept :/
thanks for helping me understand :)
A million thanks from Miami!!!
Thanks for the video
So when you reach 3800 rpm the actuator arm move and stays open until you reduce the rpm
Or when you reach 3800 rpm it moves open and close even if you keep the rpm 3800
Because mine when i reach 3800 rpm and keep it on 3800 the actuator arm moves open and close back so fast
What i think is it must stay open until i reduce tge rpm
Cheers mate, a very clear concise video, just what I was looking for. Very helpful, thanks.
what a drama that modern engines Years ago it was the rottery (you could do something about it) but it is now the technology and you can do little against it Especially if there is programmed wear and repair is only done with "modules "that are sometimes 20 times as expensive compared to the old technique (same function)
Got my recall notice!
Andre Thompson :)
How about every single vacuum line on the B5 1.8t, as well as the FPR and Hazard Signal relay, not to mention sunroof controls tend to have a mind of their own
also the Secondary injection pump will take a crap on you too
I am sure I have a Hazard switch around somewhere. I KNOW I have a 2nd air pump
I deleted my secondary injection pump after it crapped out
Charles, I hope you can answer a question for me:
The girlfriend has a 2006 Passat 2.0 TSI with 56,000 miles. She got a check engine light, and the code reader showed:
P2015, P2008, and P2181.
ScribblinJ replace the intake manifold
Charles,
new subscriber here(#1400 yay!) after seeing the collab with EE!
i have some ideas for failed part videos:
1) 2.0 TDI BKD ASV failure (insanely expensive part) -in fact it's not only BKD, it fails all over the place- which shares fuse with radiator fan thus you end up overheating
2) porous head with microscopic cracks on early BKD which leaks coolant to the cylinder
3) 1.9 TDI US-spec (can't recall engine code) that has poor lube design for camshaft causing extreme wear
4) DMF failures on every DSG-equipped engine (had to change mine, rattled TOO much, another stupidly expensive part).
Congrats on being 1400, Thanks for subscribing. :)
I will try and round up those things. TDI stuff is a little harder to come by than gas engines. I DO have a TDI balance shaft module that I will be doing a video on. That one will be a good one.
HumbleMechanic ¿why is that, tdi is not very popular in the states?.
Ohhh yes, that horribly engineered(or if you're more devious "designed to break after warranty ends") balance/pump combo, looking forward to that
Another great topic thanks Chuck Wagon!!
Thank you for this video! It helped show me exactly where the issue was with the manifold on my GTI.
Have you seen the piece that connects the motor to the valve actually break off? The arm that comes off the motor is floating by itself in front of the whole in my intake.
My spelling is atrocious.
Kbone12 Yep. seen one today
Great idea to clean the valves. Intake may be worth just replacing
@@HumbleMechanic ok. I take it the intake manifold is not that pricey then?
Hola. Como puedo verlo en español??
Muy interesante la pagina. Felicitaciones
Thanks for the video! What performance impact will it have on your vehicle and can you continue driving with these fails?
Well I guess I’ll be doing that my check engine light came on for manifold so I’ll be taking it out o took it out before to do the injectors
Thanks again for the informative video.
great video, is this intake manifold from a gen 3 ea888 engine or gen 2?
VW extended warranty 120K miles 10 years on manifold issues and carbon buildup P2015
cengeb hey if you don’t mind how does that extended warranty work do you have to be the original owner? Thanks
If that swirl flap motor arm snaps, or the part pops out, is it guaranteed to pop an error or EML? Would it bring P2015 on a Skoda 2TSI?
I have the same issue that thing sometimes popes out then I push it then it runs for a week then pops up again do you think I should replace the whole mainfolds?
Yeah that is the best way to fix it.
