    you and Paul are great resources for nearly all things VAG. more than just showing how it's done, you guys take the time to explain failures and common issues to great lengths so your viewers and owners can understand them; pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate that time and devotion you guys offer to your viewers and communities.

    Thank you so much! Been having issues on and off for a year and this allowed me to figure out that it was the actuator arm broke from the flaps creating a large vacuum leak. Having you mention the extended warranty saved me big bucks too. Thanks again!

  • @bradleyparrett4483
    @bradleyparrett4483 5 років тому +13

    Hey there, I dont know if you're reading these still but you just saved me big time. I had a coolant leak when I was out of town. I didn't have the proper tools and couldn't seem to locate the source. It was leaking too bad to travel and it was too far to tow home so I took it to a shop with a lot of good reviews. I was told it was the water pump and it cost me a good chunk of money to get it repaired but when I got the car back it was pulling the p2015 code. Of course the car had 130,000 miles and that's only covered to 120,000.
    I didn't have money to fix the new problem so I had to drive around for a while with the check engine light on and suffer through rough starts among other issues and I managed to get the money to buy a new manifold. I watched your video a couple times and dug in on the repair myself. I got the old manifold out and transferred the throttle body and the other parts over and installed the new manifold. I cleared the codes and started the car and it immediately pulled the p2015 again.
    I started searching for other causes when I ran across this video and happened to watch it. I didn't realize there was an updated manifold. My old manifold was exactly the same as the new one so I was curious. Apparently I already had the updated version which was probably from the previous owner. So why was I having a problem? Anyway, as you were going over the differences, around 3:14 you mention that the metal nipple on the vacuum is supposed to be open. WTF? My old manifold had a little rubber traffic cone looking thing on that nipple and I had transferred it over!
    I ran to my car and managed to get the nipple off without taking anything else apart. I cleared the codes again, started it up and the problem is gone!
    I'm pretty sure that mechanic had seen the mileage on my car and stuck that on there, knowing it would pull the code and would be out of warranty. It makes me wonder if my water pump was even the original problem or if it was just a leaky hose. If you see this, thank you so much for saving me in the end. You also may want to make a video about how a dishonest mechanic can do this and maybe save more people from this issue. Thanks again.

      Having the same issue. Waterpump replaced and now I have a p2015 code... Are you/ were you running a tune?

    • @bradleyparrett4483
      @bradleyparrett4483 4 роки тому

      @@eyeareels9451 No tune, just stock. See the metal nipple he is touching at 3:25? That was covered. It needs to be open because its a vent. When installed, it's on the bottom of the manifold on the right side. You may be able to see it with a small mirror or you may be able to reach under and feel it. Make sure that nipple is not covered. If it's not covered then you may need to remove the manifold and see if that tube is clogged rather than capped. If it's not that nipple then I can't help, sorry!

    Charles, You always fill videos with so much information they have helped me in ways I assume you never really imagined. Thank you for the videos you have created over the years which have been so helpful even if the primary content of the videos is not what helped me in my research! Sometimes comments you make in the videos have helped me to understand something I was trying to figure-out on my own as a "thrifty VW DIY mechanic"! This one, for instance, helped me to understand that the runners hyperextend when the throttle is wide-open, go beyond their stops and create the sensor fault...a condition fixed by the new manifold design... but I used the ECS intake manifold repair kit, properly applied (thanks to one of your comments) to my intake to fix the P2015 problem I was having. I have other examples of how you have helped me... if you ever desire feedback.

    Just wanted to say thanks for the video. My MKV came up with the p2015 code and the dealership replaced it for free under warranty. Would have never known if it wasn’t for your video. I appreciate it. Also your video helped me switch out the pcv with little to no trouble (dropping the torx bolt into the engine bay) keep up the good work. I’m about to switch out the upper timing chain cover because now that’s leaking. 😕

    If you look carefully in the video between about 3:40 and 3:50, you can see both manifolds are marked "PA6 GF30." This means 30% glass fiber reinforced polyamide. In other words, the composition of the material is the same on old and new manifolds.

    so good on vdub for improving the manifold but I know ive gotten good at pulling these things off and depending on mileage performing and intake valve cleaning I could have it done in and hour and a half. easy money on warranty. 120k and its customer pay after that. ill be sad to see that go but happy to see the line is always getting better! Thank you for your videos!! It helped me a lot with my personal case!
    I have a 2009 Scirocco 2.0 TSI and i had the intake sensor error since last year but could only buy the intake last month, i was surprised when i got it and saw the arm was different...
    But when i connected the vacuum line, i connected it to the new metal one, so i still had an error and the flap was stuck all the way open. It took me a while to get it, but ended up putting the old solenoid that wasn't faulty and i finally got rid of the error...
    Now i only have the wastegate flap that it's making noise..... -.-"

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  7 років тому +1

      Oh no on the wastegate noise. That sucks. Will the anti rattle clip fix is?

    • @RoccoCaddy
      @RoccoCaddy 7 років тому

      I already put one anti rattle clip in and the noise went away, but i could still ear it slighlty (i think the clip only mutes a bit the sound of the rattle)
      So either it dropped at one time, wich i think that it is impossible when i think of the the trouble i had to get it in or the arm of the flap itself it's sideways like in one of your videos and in that case you know how it is....
      Here in europe this engine is rare and the Scirocco's even more rare, so i'm happy that i can find all the good info in your channel! Keep up the good work mate! ;)

    Back in around 2010 we had the same/similar problem in the Ford shop I used to work at (in Europe)
    It was on the 1.8 and 2.0 gasoline engines and at first we replaced the flaps and installed stronger bushings untill Ford came with complete manifold to replace the broken ones.
    One time I had an engine where the rod that hols/flips the flaps was broken and one of the flaps had been "eaten" my the engine. Imagine the damage that caused to the valves!

    I am a disabled vet so money was always tight . Me and my parents were always american car and truck buyers . It was not allowed to buy anything but american. So when I moved out for 12 years before going in the NAVY on submarines . I always bought american and since my dad was a mechanic over 20 years when I was 17 but growing up the places he worked at since it was taxi places let me help from the age of 7 . I swept floors and other things but he showed me from oil change to engine and trans replacement I seen there belair taxi with over 300k . I went in the NAVY and got sent over seas to Holy loch scotland and you could not get american cars over there and since I was a e-4 at the time the NAVY would not pay to ship my car over .But when I got sent to Kings Bay GA I got back into american. But after buying blazers and other SUV and small cars I had so many problems with the transmission on the suv s . I did all the proper maintenance , I bought a toyota camry and had it for 5 years with over 200k on it .I hate to say this but toyota makes some pretty good cars right now I have a scion xa with 120k and small easy to fix except the inner wheel bearing which was a common failure. MY family down south still complains to me about not buying american so to make them happy I bought a 1961 stripped down fairlane with a 4 banger so far 3 years no problem I have been in NY up 90 miles from NYC so salt is the main killer not my cars mechanics .

    hey, HumbleMachanic, if you want to know if the plastic is different, there should be a marking on it, European companies are usually really good about marking them. I saw in the video that the new one is PA6-GF30 meaning it is nylon that is glass filled 30%. That is the same stuff good power tools is made out of, it is very stong.

Great little car, but I'm getting a surging idle when I come to a stop. It'll rev up to about 2k rpm, then somewhere in between 1-k, then idle smoothly. Pulled the PCV out and it was torn. Easy fix, but the idle surge hasn't subsided. In fact, I'm showing misfires on all 4 cyls. I'm not detecting a vacuum leak, at least I haven't been able to find one using the old propane trick. Any thoughts? Idle control valve? Could it be the manifold?

Found one at ECS Tuning in the states and they will ship to Australia for me however they are saying i need to upgrade the fuel rail as well to use this manifold. what are your thoughts on this? As of today the Tiguan started misfiring and there is a sound like a vacuum leak around the inlet manifold. The OBD codes are P0300, P0303, P0304, P0302 and P0301 in order. Is this all part of the same problem with the inlet manifold do you think? I love your videos and you helped me heaps with the TSI timing belt. Thanks for your time Andrew

    Hi there, thanks for the video! I have a question I'm having trouble trying to resolve... Is the vacuum solenoid directly interchangeable for the old intake? I had the old style solenoid with the "PASS" cap and bought a replacement with the new metal nipple; have subsequently installed it. Just wanted to know if this would cause any issues?

      Anfecs Ian hey do you need any sensor or part to complete the remplacement?

    Mine just broke, warranty extention ended like 6 months ago lol
    Gonna get my buddy who's a vw master tech to replace it. Under the table it's like $650 for part and install.

    When was the release of this new Intake Manifold? Asking due to going through several intakes under warranty. If it falls under the time I had it replaced, I'm going to ask why the updated one was not installed... as I need another right now for a vacuum leak issue and intake runner fault... Thanks

      Maybe on the Limited 2018. And that’s a big old maybe. The 2018 Limited was the old body style

    Charles, had my 2009 TSI manifold replaced last year under warranty. 48K miles now and decided to remove the intake to clean the valves. Have you heard the new design does not have the support (10mm trip and 13mm nut) under the throttle body? Looks like it was never there or the dealer tech didn't feel like putting it back when he replaced the intake? Not sure if I need to source one or just put it back together the way it was...? Got my gasket and injector seals from Deutsche and was told my intake should be the latest revision...?

    We couldn't do a Adaptation for intake runner because some one installed high flow air filter in to the car and was causing slightly idle to high , so I went to the car I pressed the brake pedal and switch in to the Drive so idle can drop and Adaptation passed ! this was crazy to find out what was wrong took me weeks !!!!!!!!!!

    Hey, I have a TFSI Audi that is throwing the p2015 code. Is this the same as the TSI? Can't find a single video on TFSI's. Thanks!

    My 2016 Tiguan R-Line popped the P2015 code just now at 138K miles. First ever code on this most reliable car.
    I bought the ECS quick fix coupler and will drop it in until I buy a new manifold and have time for the swap.
    QUESTION: Is it advisable to service injectors when replacing manifold?
    Great vids. Cheers!

    Hi, I'm working on a 06 A4 2.0t, just about got the intake out when I noticed that the new intake has an "extra" sensor on the side of it (the one you pointed out as a known failure from Germany now replace with Romanian one), would you happen to know if it will still work in my car? I have gone back and searched for the one without the sensor but everything that is coming up keeps showing that sensor there. Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated and thanks in advance.

    I just installed this (BH) revision manifold in my 09 GTI. I also had to get a new fuel rail (06J-133-317-AB) because my old fuel rail(06J133317J) wouldn't line up. Bolt holes were about half a hole off. New rail fits perfectly, but I also had to change the brass fitting( old rail had male threads for fuel line, new revision had female). After all that extra headache, I still throw code p2015...☹️

    • @HumbleMechanic

      I’ve been hearing that more and more lately about the manifolds not lining up.
      The p2015, check your vacuum supply to the the diagram.

    Shame this didn't come out a year ago. I fitted a new IM manifold due to intermittent error on the runners (p15xx error, I forgot the exact code) and would have been nice to fit the latest part.

    I replaced mine last year, one consideration I wasn't aware of is none of the boost taps that fit in between the manifold and PCV work anymore with the new revision. They pop out or leak under boost now and there are no new aftermarket solutions available. Is there any other way to tap in for my guage?

    I have a P2187 code (lean at idle, fuel trim +13% at idle, air intake leak etc) on my MK6 GTI. Cleaned MAF, replaced PCV system, checked for leaks and it’s still idling rough with a CE light. Intake manifold is the next part to check. It’s driving me mad trying to nail down what’s causing my issue.
