I’ve put 300 hours on this 4 place and it just keeps getting better. Currently having Kirk build us a second 4 place so me and my partner on 896AK can each have our own.
When I think of a Super Cub I'm thinking of something that's as close to a helicopter as you can get and still have wings on it. Good stuff thanks for posting
my ''dream plane'' would still at least have a composting pottie in the ''5th bench'' seat at the back ?? eh... or something like that... maybe even just LAND OUT THERE SOMEPLACE and pull the compostypottie out of the cargo hold and ... well yea... ;) is still a sweeeet plane!! :)
I am not a pilot, but I love bighorn sheep hunting (going on 40 years of hunts ) and my buddy has a Bush Caddy ultra light. We use horses I just wanted to say i found the video very interesting and Kirk Ellis experience and knowledge was something that you cannot learn in a school. If I win the lotto i will be getting a license and looking him up. Thanks from Canada
I support you and value your idea.keep the innovation and let it have dual controls, consider of providing a control column(yoke) according to clients requirements.Kenyan tail drager pilot.
3:47 I would serously think about direct connection of the flaps to a handle in the middle roof?? in tween the pilots up front... how many more 4place SuperDuper4pCUBs are there now that its 4 years later???? they still flying??? HAHVE THEY GOTn BETTER?
Nice. Am curious how you figure out how much to lengthen the wings, and how does the engine size compare with a regular Super Cub? Good video. Good luck, guys. Stay safe - Covid still nasty.
Hm, I wonder here... There's a guy Clint Busenitz in South Dakota (the Vetterman Exhaust) that builds Cubs with Cessna 152 or 172 wings. With the 172 wing in weighs 1080 lb, max gross wieght is about 2200 lb. So the payload is more than the plane's wight-1120 lb. ...what if combine this Kirk's 4-seater Cub with that Clint's "Cessna-wing-on-a-Cub" idea?😛
Kirk !! Would have loved to work with you !! I had a set of plans for a "Chubby Cubby" once upon a time, but life veered and the project never happened. All the best !
Moose won't takeoff or land as short as this cub but I do know guys are able to get off the ground at sea level, 360hp M14P, & 3500lbs gross, using around 600ft of strip. I find that very impressive. But the M14P has less dynamic landing gear, and does cost more in fuel, and oil. The bearhawk can fly faster in cruise than most M14P equipped moose & all cubs. It can fly slower than the moose & is comparable to the cub. Arguably a better wing design than the cub. This cub has better flaps than both bearhawk & moose. Unfortunately, the moose & bearhawk can not be used in a business capacity. On a personal level, I find the 4 seat cub & bearhawk fascinating aircraft, but the Moose is my dream build.
If you read some books on communication and empathy it's a technique that's used to affirm what the other person is saying, build trust and engage in two way communication. I understand it but if you ask wife I'm terrible at applying it...
An aft cg...within the limit...will give you a slower stall speed and a higher cruise speed. If you want to see better...and this is the truth...get a seat cushion. This will raise your head higher which will also force you to bring your seat forward...which gives you a better view on approach and landing. Give it a try.
No, the Carbon Cub is it's own plane and doesn't share any approvals/STC's with the 4 place. You can use it on PA-18 floats with modification to the rigging.
This 4-pl Cub is slower than a regular Cub apparently, whereas a Bearhawk 4 place is roughly as fast as a Cessna 180. Similar takeoff roll between the 4-pl Cub and Bearhawk 4 place. The 4-place Cub is going to land shorter every time, because the Bearhawk is slightly heavier. The Bearhawk has considerably more useful load. Internal space looked similar, as was the pilot's controls configuration.
@@whosaidyoucandance That's kinda how I saw it too. Though I haven't heard them comment on cruise speed for the 4 place Cub, I doubt it's anywhere near the Bearhawk, but that's not it's mission. Sounds like this goes basically anywhere an -18 will go and carry two extra people there. But realistically, the Bearhawk will too except maybe the really tight/short strips where the extra weight keeps it moving that little bit longer... I'm looking forward to seeing how the Bearhawk responds to the Keller flaps, apparently there's a guy in the southwest that's testing a set on his A model.
No .. a maule is to heavy wing loading and barrels along way to fast on sand bars .. Its just not a STOL plane .. won't go slow enough without falling out of the sky.. no idea why people think Maules are good back country planes .. they aren't
It's certified IF you buy the STC from whoever holds it, and (I believe) already own at least the data plate for a PA-18. Experimental Amateur Built when you just build your own from parts.
Did I hear you correctly?????? At 11:25 in the video you said "you have 700 something pounds of useful load". WHAT?!!! This is a FOUR place. Four 200 pound men is 800lbs!!! No fuel, NO baggage, no nothing! What the heck! So this is still a TWO place aircraft! Two people at 400lbs then you can put in 50 gallons of fuel and you are about to be over weight if you put on headsets and bring a water bottle. What if your one friend who wants to go with you is 250lbs? Less fuel? In Alaska you need that fuel to get to the remote areas. Alaska is three times the size of Texas and there isn't as many airports with fuel as Texas. So this aircraft is basically a single person plane that can carry enough fuel to get you there and back and have still 100lbs of cargo. Better to buy a Murphy Moose! Cheaper too!
I hate to say it....a super cub is just not. A plane for 4 place configured like that...that cock It and controls are boxed out....everything is forced and put as an afterthought...just like an 1980s humvee...nothings ergonomic. Nobody is comfortable goin cross country... get a Cessna if that’s your intent.... a S cub needs to hug your elbows and the controls just don’t fit centered in the air away from the convenience of the workings hidden in the outer frame... leave them at 900 pounds in,t opinion..but I definetly appreciatie the workmanship and craft that this guy did...a true fabricator.

Would you mind giving me a rough estimate on cost Kirk is charging you for a complete build? This setup looks perfect for me and my family!
Looks like the perfect back country hauler. Similar performance to a 2 seater with the room of 4... definitely leading position for my next purchase
When I think of a Super Cub I'm thinking of something that's as close to a helicopter as you can get and still have wings on it. Good stuff thanks for posting
A four place cub is still my dream plane.
The Ellis family are great, have used them for sheep hunting many times. Thanks for having one of them on.
Absolutely my dream too
Piper already did it. Family Cruiser. It did not sell well !

Iam 82 and just love this . I flew a lot of planes in Idaho and Alaska . why wernt these planes were made a way back .. O i want one.
"500 foot strip...a fairly long strip". Wow, these guys are amazing.
Awesome... Kirk is so very skilled at building those 4 placers
My first plane was a Pacer, and always wanted to do this.
What a great airplane and a wealth of knowledge this man is.

It's almost unhealthy how bad I want one of these.
Yeah, me too.... 😕 My wife says I need help.
@@CS_247 Here I am, watching it yet again and wondering if now is the time to shoot Kirk a message and see how many years out he is.

It probably would be good for your mental health to have one, that’s what I’m trying to convince myself of anyway😜

What a nice aircraft.
Did I hear it right at 4:00 that there is an STC to put dual yokes in this thing? So therefor a certified 4 place cub can have dual controls?
COOL , enjoy your fifteen minutes Kirk .
I want his plane or one like this for Christmas 😳
Whoa what a beautiful plane! If I didn’t need a house for my kids I’d snag one of these things! 😁
Kirk have you ever tried a super stol wing set on the 4 place?
Can you fly it with the doors open? Great informational video.
More vis n comment on the double slotted flap system plz
Doesn’t Maule make a 4 place Super Cub? 😎
There were 6 STC'd 4 place Cubs built in Missouri and sent to Alaska during the building of the pipeline. Are these Cubs based on that design?
Nice. Am curious how you figure out how much to lengthen the wings, and how does the engine size compare with a regular Super Cub? Good video. Good luck, guys. Stay safe - Covid still nasty.
How about the wing... any changes to overall SF..extra ribs?...other than extended flaps and ailerons
Nice machine, wondering if it will be a good seaplane ?
An excellent seaplane. The huge doors on both sides are amazing for use with floats.
Very nice acft , what’s the time for you to build one as compared with say a kit form for self builder ?
Hm, I wonder here...

WHAT SIZE FLOATS WOULD WORK BEST?
Kirk !! Would have loved to work with you !! I had a set of plans for a "Chubby Cubby" once upon a time, but life veered and the project never happened. All the best !
Be curious how it performs compared to a Producer or a Bushmaster?
How does it compare to a Bearhawk 4-place?
Put those flaps on a hawk and she'd be more of a hell of an airplane than she is now..
Great video
I LIKE IT !.... and the color is correct........ wow.......... nice plane......... how many flying hours ?
Not too many yet...still flying the first 40 hours off
How do I find out more about these and where to get one or a kit
how does it do with two men and two elk/moose? can you carry it easy still?
Your not good at math are you ... the answer is no
Can you put these on floats?
What are the wings that are used on the 4 place super cub?
What about the Murphy Moose and Bearhawk?

How does this compare to the Sherpa?
Where do the floats attach?
Do you have plans to build more?
Can you do a nice video of inside and outside of the plane just by itself please
We'll try to get a video like that up in the near future.
@@airframesalaska8030 thanks very much for the reply from matt Toronto ont
@@airframesalaska8030 with 4 people in... one of it taking off & landing too?
Where did you have the seats done I have a pacer with a 180 HP and the seat just kills my back and makes it no fun to fly
Look up Sport Aircraft Seats. They make really nice seats and well worth the cost.
Builder says something and then and the other guy repeats it. Why ??

yeeeehaaaaaw
Legend!
I WANT ONE , PLEASE ! HOW MUCH ?
If a Kitfox, a Cub, and a 182 all has a child together 😂
If the standard 2 place Cub is the 'pick-up of the sky' then this is the "crew cab" version.
Landin system.... you mean wheels?
What a great 👍 💡 . I really 💕 the super cub anyway and to get the performance plus the extra room... what could be nicer?

a bit more modern and stronger engine would make him to a supercup ?
Can a Carbon Cub Increased gross weight kit be used with a 4 place Cub? Also, is it still compatible with PA-18 Floats?
No, the Carbon Cub is it's own plane and doesn't share any approvals/STC's with the 4 place. You can use it on PA-18 floats with modification to the rigging.
Airframes Alaska Is there any STC out there to allow the GW to be bumped up?
@@andrewsnedeker8965 Definitely would be nice to see this with a 2500 or so MGTOW
One time at band camp
How’s it compare to something like a “Producer” Stretched PA22?
Very similar but with larger internal volume, better wing design, and more modification options because it's a PA-18 at it's core
Can someone who is 6'4'' for in it though?
Put a stol wing on that thing
Said Maule is faster... Did I miss a cruise speed? Or does cruise speed matter in the STOL world?
Kevin L. Berry it cruises slightly slower than a standard PA-18.
Same cruise speed as a normal PA-18, perhaps a bit faster than some even but hard to tell. Cruise is around 95mph.
Great
How dose it compair to the bearhawk 4 place?

Not enough for 4 adults, 670 lbs. (from Airframes Alaska website. This plane is for sale.)
It s dificult for this plane to take off in a short runway with 4 passengers on.
try to listen
