i thought this would be another "rich guy pays people to build him a toy" video and rolled my eyes. Then i watched it and seeing these guys all come together and him to build his baby made my heart smile :)
A great restoration aircraft story that really doesn’t show just how difficult and labor intensive this project really was for him. The fact that this aircraft changed hands so many times is a testament of how many people tried and gave up after realizing just how many man hours it takes for a projects of this magnitude. Then he mods the airframe too. Wow what a great story. I’m surprised he didn’t know the bolt thread requirement??
It seems to my somewhat jaded mind that it all depends on the actual Inspector that you get . Some of then have Bees in their Bonnets over certain requirements. I had one who didn't like my stainless steel turnbuckles and argued that I should use the brass type. Durr! . Regards Jim in NI UK
Jim Cripps - you are correct that different inspectors have different backgrounds and lean heavy on different items but the three thread rule is automatic failure here. I wouldn’t feel safe flying an aircraft with a bolt on the engine with less only because of vibrations. A structural bolt if it was close between 2 - 3 threads maybe not so much. Then i would see if it was a fiber or metal locking nut and if the bolt was going to be remover all the time for inspections but as a rule three threads. I was surprised they were able to obtain these bolts and the low profile but so quickly to complete the first flight. Damm good friends and a lot of spare hardware!!

Oh, boy... gotta tell you... wouldn’t be crying here if the aviator was a regular guy... but to see an elder ‘s man dream come true... that’s a blast! Congratulations, mr. Palmer, on another great video...
Incredible video, Trent. Packed in an awesome story in a short space of time. Despite having never met Baja Joe I really felt connected and part of the journey here! Awesome!
Long time I watch you Trent, glas it was this one. Great job for really getting the emotion of the moment!
I don’t normally get emotional, but this video made me tear up. Thank you Trent and all the great people that made this happen. Great story!
Trent this was a very heartwarming video. The wife is not much into planes but she enjoyed this one also. Felt a connection to this man and wonder if he is a military veteran? Hope to see you guys flying together soon. Great job!
I’m actually not sure if Joe was in the military or not, I’ll ask him next time I see him. But thanks! Glad both you and the wife enjoyed the video
After laying off this channel vidz since oskosh I chose this one to be my first watch back. No regret! Throughly understated I am sure, but an awesome watermark for this gentleman's passion and accomplishment.
Excellent production and storytelling in this one, look forward to more videos of this style!
