Doing stories like this, of pilots and/or planes, from time to time would be awesome, and another good way to potentially spark that (internally combusted) flame in viewers. Could be a cool addition to the channel.

It’s funny because when editing something I am normally too close to have anything get to me but after stepping away from the computer for a day I did one final watch before exporting the video and it even got me a little. Joe and Monte did such and awesome job on the plane and Joe told the story really well, this was a super fun one to make!

When I was a little kid, I spent 7 or 8 years of weekends at the general aviation airport with my father rebuilding his 1946 J3 cub from the frame up. I will never forget the first day he took me up in it. Watching this video brought tears of joy to my eyes. Congratulations on a great project and an incredible achievement !!!

A great restoration aircraft story that really doesn’t show just how difficult and labor intensive this project really was for him. The fact that this aircraft changed hands so many times is a testament of how many people tried and gave up after realizing just how many man hours it takes for a projects of this magnitude. Then he mods the airframe too. Wow what a great story. I’m surprised he didn’t know the bolt thread requirement??
It seems to my somewhat jaded mind that it all depends on the actual Inspector that you get . Some of then have Bees in their Bonnets over certain requirements. I had one who didn't like my stainless steel turnbuckles and argued that I should use the brass type. Durr! . Regards Jim in NI UK
Jim Cripps - you are correct that different inspectors have different backgrounds and lean heavy on different items but the three thread rule is automatic failure here. I wouldn’t feel safe flying an aircraft with a bolt on the engine with less only because of vibrations. A structural bolt if it was close between 2 - 3 threads maybe not so much. Then i would see if it was a fiber or metal locking nut and if the bolt was going to be remover all the time for inspections but as a rule three threads. I was surprised they were able to obtain these bolts and the low profile but so quickly to complete the first flight. Damm good friends and a lot of spare hardware!!

I’ve watched every one of your videos and this one was your best yet. They’re all good and keep getting better but this one, this one took me there. I’ve got Stage IV prostate cancer and a few other health issues so I can’t get around like I used to but I find myself living vicariously through you and your friends. I flew and had 40 hours but scared myself so bad trying to crab into the wind one day that I gave it up and decided to ride motorcycles instead. I never lost my love of flying and my daughter is a multi-engine jet pilot. I’m looking forward to your next video. Thank you for posting these.

Awesome Succes, Great Job!!! I grew up at the same private airstrip to Mark Vangrunsen, a relative to the RV designer. He was building an RV6 in his basement, and I remember him counting the exposed threads on the bolts after the nyloc nuts. At that time he said the inspector requires to see 2 threads, now your inspector wants 3, interesting.......I think I'd rather have 2 and be able to use a nyloc nut than 3 with just a standard nut, but I'm sure there's more to the process.
All the airframe nuts need to be locking. Normal or low profile nylock, steel lock or pinned. I’m really surprised they got to final inspection without someone noticing and donating tham a copy 43.13 to read.

Flight was an impossible notion for me but this spotlight on all around good guy, Baja Joe and his Monster Cub was reassuring. One foot in front of the other, one at a time. It should be a reminder to us all that flight is achievable. So long as you still have that passion in your heart, keep going. You'll get there, don't give up. For those of us whom have yet to become pilots, it's stuff like this that strengthens our resolve. Thanks

Great video of a great celebration and culmination of a labor of love. I also soloed at 16 after starting to fly at 15 back in Dallas. It was a gift from my parents for making Eagle scout. This September I'll celebrate the 50th anniversary of that date at Caddo Mills airport east of Dallas. While I haven't kept current in flying I vicariously fly with you through your wonderful videos. Keep it up!

Always great to see a forgotten aircraft returned to flying status. It takes such dedication and substantial financial resources to resurrect an airframe found in that condition and return it again to it’s rightful place in the sky and do it even better than the good folks at Piper did back in the day. Wow what an amazing gift though to Baja Joe and his family - a cinematic record of this day! I don't even own an plane and am not likely ever to... I come from a background of just loving aviation and aviation simulators all in general... but on top of that I love editing small video projects for myself and my family and I have gleaned some great techniques from watching Trent's editing. That shot, filmed on a car, taking off... followed up by a static shot from where he powered up... but having the car on the runway blocked (except for a split second) by a person... genius! I can only assume Trent picks up heaps of directorial skills from the people he's working for in his job! This was an amazing piece of content!
Dude, Trent this was 100% top shelf work! The moment those wheels left the ground I got serious chills. I agree with others on here, you could totally (and should) create a story series to allow pilots to tell their stories. This was an amazingly inspirational video! If you're looking to increase interest in GA, this is the way!

I am a big, tough, burly, hairy, man’s man and I may have cried a little. This made me remember my first solo 25 years ago. Fantastic documentary.

Always great to see a forgotten aircraft returned to flying status. It takes such dedication and substantial financial resources to resurrect an airframe found in that condition and return it again to it’s rightful place in the sky and do it even better than the good folks at Piper did back in the day. Awesome, love hearing the stories of others. Teared up when he said the feeling was the same as when he soloed the first time at 16. Anyone watching can so relate to that feeling as the best feeling and accomplishment. Thanks Trent for creating and shariglng the video.

Wow what an amazing gift though to Baja Joe and his family - a cinematic record of this day! I don't even own an plane and am not likely ever to... I come from a background of just loving aviation and aviation simulators all in general... but on top of that I love editing small video projects for myself and my family and I have gleaned some great techniques from watching Trent's editing. That shot, filmed on a car, taking off... followed up by a static shot from where he powered up... but having the car on the runway blocked (except for a split second) by a person... genius!
I can only assume Trent picks up heaps of directorial skills from the people he's working for in his job!

Dude, Trent this was 100% top shelf work! The moment those wheels left the ground I got serious chills. I agree with others on here, you could totally (and should) create a story series to allow pilots to tell their stories. This was an amazingly inspirational video! If you're looking to increase interest in GA, this is the way!
