  • Chrysler Pt Cruiser Spark Plugs Removal and Replacement! 2001 - 2009
► Our Website for Tools, Parts and more Videos: mechaniclifesty...
We took this video to show you how to replace the spark plugs on a Chrysler PT Cruiser. You will need to remove the upper intake in order to get to the spark plugs and the ignition coil. Once you remove the upper intake make sure that you cover the lower intake, this way you will avoid dropping a tool or something which could result in damaged engine. Spark plugs should be replaced every 60-90k miles depending on the brand.
This is the same procedure for all Chrysler PT Cruisers with the 2.4 Non Turbo engine:
    2001 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2002 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2003 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2004 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2005 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2006 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2007 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2008 Chrysler PT CRUISER
    2009 Chrysler PT CRUISER

I'm having trouble getting the bolt in the back of the intake back in. Taking it off the area around it kept spinning as I turned it so I had to hold it in place. If I can't get it back on is it fine to drive without it?

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser GT convertible with factory intake, plus intake cover. All I have to remove is the cover that fits over the intake.
Then I use a swivel 5/8 spark plug socket with a extension and ratchet. No need to remove anything else.
    Very quick and simple.

Thank you for this excellent video. Instructions down to how to remove the electrical clips, which most other tutorials just say, remove clips. Close ups great as well. At this point in time, my PT is torn apart and got the offending plugs out. Before seeing your tutorial, I was about to take it in to a dealer.

Could have left all the clamps intact only one hose that really has to be removed is intake hose throttle body side only. U only need the intake just enough to get to the plugs. This is good if you're getting paid for labor!

+camilo11315 Acoording to the manual : for the 2.4L NA does say 13'# (17.5N-m).
With this Warning in bold: The tapered seat plugs for this application are torque-critical! It is imperative that 13'# is NOT exceeded!

Ha, it's due to the small engine bay. Crowded. The turbo versions have an aluminum intake which is smaller and doesn't necessarily need removing.
This job is super easy compared to replacing the timing belt, tho!
