  • In this lesson we take a look at a Harley shifter shaft seal replacement. This demonstration is intended for Sportster or Softail models that are set up with a mid-shift assembly. In this type of set up, the shift linkage travels through the primary drive and exits from the outer primary cover. These seals have longevity under normal riding and routine maintenance. However, they can be more prone to leak if the outer primary cover has been removed without replacing the Harley shifter shaft seal or if the shift shaft has been compromised in any way.

    Part #? I'm looking for the part number of the shifter shift oil seal, the shifter shaft washer, and the o-ring / seal / gasket for the primary inspection window.

    what if its metal seal? i got an evo 1995 can i remove it from the outside or do i need to take out the primary case? also do i replace it with metal replacement or the new ones made from plastic*?

      You do not need to remove the outer primary cover to remove the seal. You can pierce the seal with a pick & pry it out.
      It does not matter if the seal is metal or metal/rubber coated. Related videos: www.fixmyhog.com/video/stripped-harley-shifter-shaft-009555/

    What direction does the seal go in? Cupped side out or in?

    • @FixMyHogfreechannel
      @FixMyHogfreechannel  5 років тому +1

      Hi David, Cupped side points inward, towards the oil.

      Hello,
      A 2008 Dyna does not have a shift shaft seal in the outer primary. The shift assembly is different.
