Over here in nj needed to know what way to put the new seal in u just saved me some time really appreciate the details keep the rubber side on the road bro thanks
Thank you. I like how you slowly pulled it out and showed the direction of the seal. I took off the primary cover and couldn't figure out its placement. So thanks!!!
Viper6 when it turns out good it is😂😂😂. That was pretty easy though but I can see how it could be intimidating to some people. Thanks for watching. Be safe. 👍
I remember when you were hanging drywall in that garage. It looks great . Nice clean place to store and work on your bike. The video was straightforward and helpful. Anything you can learn to do as far as maintenance or repairs is a huge help. And a great way to save a few bucks. Thanks again Ride Safe
Gary C. Thank you for watching. I enjoy working on my bike. I love my garage. It’s so much more functional now. Thank you for noticing. Be safe out there. 👍
Bud Irwin thank you. I will be doing more videos in my new garage so stay tuned. You’re right they probably would have charge me at least $100 to change that $4 seal and they probably wouldn’t have filed that burr off either causing it leak again. Thanks for watching. Be safe. 👍
I’ve replaced this silly annoying seal several times since I bought my Sporty new in 2004. Just one of those little annoyances that goes with owning a Sportster but I still love the bike. Cheers 🍻
Great how to video brother, this video will help others out if they have the same problem, and the garage is looking great to man, see you soon brother 💯👍🏼
OZARKS H-D RIDER'S absolutely man. Thanks for watching. I try to go as in depth as I can without rambling. I hope it comes across well enough to help someone out. See you in a few weeks. Be safe. 👍
Craig Doud thanks buddy. Yes, a bike lift would be a great addition to the garage. It’s not in the budget right now but maybe someday. Thanks for watching. Be safe. I’m still not getting any Saturdays off yet. When I get one I’ll let you know. Be safe. 👍
I always enjoy your how-to video series. Looks like a straight forward fix. Is that little rubber seal on ever shifter from Harley? Thanks again for the great video! Ride Safe
HarleyDayRider not sure if it’s on all Harley models or not but it seems to be something that has to be replaced every so often on Sportsters. Thanks for watching. Be safe. 👍
Greetings PABB. I just watched your demo/vlog of (I think) June 2019 and you mentioned a desire for an electric windshield. Then I got to thinkin', do you think aftermarket companies like Memphis Shields, Klock Werks, LRS, etc. are paying H-D a %age of their sales to NOT put electric windshields on their touring models?
Hey man. Thanks for subbing my channel. I subbed yours also. You brought up a great theory. You never know what’s going on behind the scenes. All those companies would lose a lot of sales if Harley went to electric shields. Interesting. Thank you. 🤔
A well done DIY video! Too bad all repairs aren’t that easy. Do you know the dates you’re heading to Arkansas yet. Been trying to plan something all summer but nothing has been working out.
DJ thanks for watching. We will be there from 9/22 to 9/25. That would be awesome if you could come up and ride with us. Let me know if you can make it. Be safe. 👍
If the socket isn’t working I would take a piece of wood and gently tap the wood around the seal and see if that works. You don’t want to damage the seal. Hope that helps.
hey man so i cant figure out what to search for my issue, hopefully you might know, I have a 07 sportster as well and down where the clutch cable line goes in by the shifter it has a grease like build up on the cable and I'm not sure what to buy in order to fix it. its not an oil leak. if you have an email i can send you a picture if that explanation is to confusing
Lol, mine does the same thing. I think the oil seeps there just a tiny bit. Mine has never leaked enough to cause issues though. I just wipe it off when washing my bike. There may be a seal there but like i said it doesn’t leak onto the ground or anything so I just wipe it off when cleaning my bike. Thanks for watching. Ride safe. 👍
I need to replace the shaft itself do you know if I need to pull entire clutch basket or can I slip it out around the basket the shaft is bent but not leaking yet 2018 iron 883 Same case from what I can tell
Chris Elmore sorry to hear that. I think your going to have to take the basket off. There is a plate directly behind the basket connected to the shifter shaft that will need taken of in order for the shaft to come out. I found a great video for you that explains it better. Look up Sportster Primary Disassembly. The UA-cam channel is Hammer Performance. They take the whole primary apart and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Hope this helps. Let me know how the shaft change goes. Be safe and thanks for the comment. 👍
PA Bearded Biker Thanks for the reply I actually watched that very video I believe the basket will have to come off in order to get the shift shaft assembly around that star shaped cogwheel I believe it’s a selector I’m pretty confident in my abilities to get it done but the same rate The bike rides fine and doesn’t leak with only 6000 miles I’ll probably just continue to ride it like it is When It gets cold this winter I’ll probably get bored and take care of it and do the clutch while I’m in there replacing for a performance extra disk
I let mine go for a while. As long as it’s not leaking you’re ok. If it starts leaving some oil on the floor after it’s been parked you should change it. You don’t want to burn up your primary. That costs big bucks$$$.

Shakey thanks man. I appreciate it. We are planning a trip to AK next month. I hope we get to meet up and ride again. 👍
Nice vid on how to do it yourself ! Dubois HD should take some notes!😂
PSP Tommy G lol, they should but they don’t care. 😢
Great job sir, thanks for sharing!
LVR Motor-Media thank you. The dealer would have probably charged me hundreds of dollars to do the same thing. Be safe. 👍

Great video
Thank you. Glad is was helpful.
Great video PABB, man the garage looks good, wouldn't a bike lift in the PABB garage be a nice addition, take care buddy.

Thanks. Just got a 95 sporty that has a small leak. Did you drain the sump first ?
No, I didn’t. The seal was higher than the fluid level. There wasn’t a mess at all. Thanks for watching. 👍

You must not be on the XL forum. Lot of people on there have shared that the cupped side faces in. - Xena ✌️
Thanks, I’ll check it out. Thanks for watching. 👍

Any ideas on how to get a new seal to seet if a socket isnt working?

I just noticed mine today. The rubber spacer is all the way out of the primary. How important is it to fix immediately, it's my only transportation?
I let mine go for a while. As long as it’s not leaking you’re ok. If it starts leaving some oil on the floor after it’s been parked you should change it. You don’t want to burn up your primary. That costs big bucks$$$.

@@chahtanamedjeff no problem. Good luck. They aren’t hard to change and only takes a little time. 👍
Link to seal you ordered ?
I got mine from my local Harley dealer. They had them in stock.
