You can sand the clearcoat off the carbon and re clear it but it’s a lot of work, but you could get that boot lid to look new again if you wanted to spend the time. But like you say. It will match the rest of the car. Loving the progress, keep it up!
Jordan Carter if you're gonna sand carbon make sure you wet it and wear a respirator. carbon dust is horrible for your lungs, can make you sick in a few hours.
This has to be one of the most loving projects I've seen dedicated towards an 86. The dedication, the documentation, it's all an incredible thing to see. It reminds me of when I still had my 86 and I'd spend day after day wrenching on it and messing with it to get it running. I appreciate you not going crazy with the mods and going for some relatively subtle, I hate to say some kids would go for the "stance" with excessive camber and minimal tire profile with these cars and even do unreversible mods. This build you're doing really does justice to the car and the it's potential is shining already. It's gonna be an incredible build when it's out on the street. The brutal reality is that all these classic japanese cars, the AE86, S13, RX7s, etc., are entering the classic era meaning they'll become more and more collectable at a faster rate. It's sad because people act like they're disposable and replaceable as they were 30 years ago.
I love your videos man! Its so nice and theraputic to watch with your instructions on difficult parts of the build & explaining steps for viewers that come in handy for future reference. Its a huge step back from most car channels because so many of them just have product endorsement after product endorsement and very little “car time”. As in they lack in explaining steps of installing/ working on the cars themselves which is really sad. With you I enjoy watching ALL of the video unlike other channels where i have to skip the first 3 minutes because. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
Always get high and watch your videos the music is so chill haha. Enjoying the 86 vids I'm glad you got another one and appreciate the laid back and style rather than overbuilding and not enjoying. I drive a 450hp ps13 but thinking of simplifying and selling it to buy an 86. I get worried I'll always compare it to the S13 but know I will love it. They have so much character and I get a buzz from cool ae86 stuff. I've owned the same car for 10 years time for a new experience.
Hey Reilly, I'm working on my own ae86 as well and I can tell that you're having so much fun building your car! I'm almost done with mine as well, keeping up with your progress vids helps me stay motivated to finish it. Thanks for the great content!
There are rebuilt kits for 4AGE alternators they are quick simple fix and some kits have better coils for higher amps generation for better spark. Looking good now those parts Nice choice of clutch kit and flywheel. Usually trans mount is a two man job. Props you doing it alone. Konig Rewind are like RS Watanabes 8 spokes replica. That will be a nice show car look rims. Wooo a nice TRD shifter Hope to see the 4AGE running soon. Cheers.
Love your videos and work. As info, no trigger wheel at the crankshaft on a 4AGE. That is a belt guide only. All engine timing information comes from the distributor.
Outside of your channel the only other guy who does in depth information on this car is running free my mistake monkey London does some to just wanted to say SUPER THANKS! !! for the video keep it up man
When putting the timing belt on I let the spring set the tension, just leave the tensioner loose and turn the engine over 2X by hand and then tighten the tensioner. You don’t want to go to tight because it will wear out your main bearings on your crankshaft. MRP sells a timing belt stabilizer to help keep the belt from flexing at high RPM and skipping a tooth.
ahh, timing for quins channel. it's like you "timed" this perficly. Pilot bering madness, I had three ordered for one engine and none fit, had to add a W to my vin number to get the right part number. Shipped from itally to vancouver island. congrats on the trans engine matting, that can take a bunch of time if things are being difficult.
Riley! Awesome work,yo the hachiruko is almost ready! Great job getting this Japanese legend back where she belong! Fuck yeah i watched all the content! Always do! 👌👊✌
Hey man I love the videos, do you have any advice for someone looking for these types of cars or any car in general? I’ve been searching everywhere and usually end up not finding much or finding a car that’s super overpriced.
Don't know if somebody already commented this, but not only does the Exedy clutch kit come with the wrong pilot bearing, it also looked like that it came with the FWD throw-out bearing.
Gotta love that genuine excitement when she cranks
I find your videos incredibly relaxing and therapeutic thank you for that . Wonder if I'm the only one ???
bren 70sss agreed. Didn’t even feel like a 27 minute video
Was thinking the samething homie.
You're not the only one, i don't even know anything about cars and I watch this channel :D
Reilly is the gold standard for working on cars 👌🏻
Just landed a Service Technician position at my local Lexus dealership. Thanks for getting me into wrenching on cars!

Thank you for using mine and lil flowwy's track and good job on the ae86 :)
HELL YEA!
great vid man, one thing though, check the white balance, your videos tend to be super yellow.
Dude, you're the only guy on youtube that finishes their projects.
Killin it with the music again and again.

been watching you for a while.. wonder why i didnt subscribe ... its done now. thanks for sharing your progress Good luck
Also, your catch can will work much more effectively if you vent it to the intake manifold (rather than just blocking the open port on the intake).
"who wakes up at 2am to watch car videos?"
xXPandakXx only 7:43pm here in Australia 😁
omg the music in speed up's are very good and gives good atmosphere

What an awesome build, could we perhaps have a whiteboard? (my ocd's kicking in)
Keep up the amazing content!
Hmm I was wondering if it's possible to install a fx16 (ae82) cluster to have a 9k rpm tack
TRD bucket seats!
Made it to the end
You should put a tunes list, damn good beats
Don't know if somebody already commented this, but not only does the Exedy clutch kit come with the wrong pilot bearing, it also looked like that it came with the FWD throw-out bearing.
Love the videos but you should invest in those quick jacks or whatever they are called
