I just started this episode and this lady is worried about the sharks, which then her fears spike about the active volcano. Apparently both are active valid concerns, but this dude’s major concern is the weather. I’m gearing up for a shark attack in a volcano while a hurricane is occurring. I’ll stick to the mountains, thank you very much.

Hasn’t anybody ever heard of a SPIRAL search pattern? In the very beginning if that boat had used that they would have found them. You never go in a straight line if you don’t know which direction the person that you’re trying to rescue is from you. You search in an ever widening spiral and that way you find them eventually regardless of which direction they are from you

I've been on a two weeks cruise ship a few yrs ago, and had hours to look at the ocean waves, and the amount and volume of dark blue water, the height of those waves, and depth of the dark below the surface. It is just incredible . I cannot imagine being in that water for 15 minutes, let alone 26 hrs and a whole night. A person is like a leaf in that water. It is a miracle that they survived, against all odds and were able to swim almost all the way back to land and be rescued alive. The bonds that I have formed with people that I worked with in EMS are some of most special memories and feelings that I have. You don't get to pick these people like making friends on the playground or picking up date at a bar. It's all random based on who you are assigned to work with and the calls are assigned at random. Years later when you get together you just pick right back up at the same spot. It's magic really.

That part of the ocean where I swam was calm but very deep. I looked below me and there were two creatures with huge long dark shadows following me. I froze but then swam towards shore on my board. After several minutes, I realized that it was a sea turtle followed by a porpoise . I found out later that day , a surfer was attacked by a shark in that very same cove in the early morning. The ocean is a jungle under water.

They should have shut that cove area down if a surfer was attacked by a shark ( or any possibly dangerous sea creature) that morning...for a few hours at least!! They do that here on the East Coast...I thought it was required safety procedures pretty much everywhere!!

When in the water , NEVER TAKE YOUR MASK OFF don’t put it on your wrist , don’t push it on your forehead , don’t have it round your neck. Unless you are back in the boat/ on dry land, your mask stays on your face wether you are underwater or on the surface.
Also when diving in the sea , maybe take with you one or all of the following.
A whistle , an old CD they make great mirrors, an inflatable dive marker , they are easy to fold away till needed , bright orange and 2 meters tall when you inflate it, you could even write HELP on it in large friendly letter with a marker pen.
Or you could forget all of them and have an amazing story to tell if you make back .

Well the mask should already be on your face and the other items are about the size of a matchbox or smaller and fit into a BC. Pocket or hang of your harness. CDs were never known for taking a lot of space. Like I said you could dive in the sea without any of this stuff and you will probably get away with it,,,,,,, till you don’t.

They dove WITHOUT a line dropped from the boat. No contingency plan. No flares. No whistle. No safety protocol for being so far offshore between them and the crew... no "watch" established on the boat. This young lady put trust in a fool and let blind faith dictate the outcome which was predictable and that's why she had a bad feeling about it. An act of stupidity and no prior antecedent situations the diver himself had experienced. He is an idiot with a bad attitude and that's another reason she had that instinctive bad feeling.

This is how the movie Open Water was made about two divers from Australia and their boat took off as they had the wrong head count. Despite a massive search by the Australian Coast Guard and dozens of private search vessels they never were found. So these guys were blessed, it just wasn't their time. I had a similar experience on Isla. Mujeres where the current took me farther from the southern tip of the island. I had to do a one mile swim going away from the island just to escape the current and be able to swim back to the island. Very scary.
