@@valobrien9596 Yes.

Full grown man here. I always cry when babies are involved in these stories. I'm glad everyone made it.
No need to cry. Babies are much more resilient than adults in these situations.
Those who rescued them are so nice people, I want to thank all those people who rescue the people, who help the people, thank you very much

I feared the baby couldn't breath in the bag.
@@annward4149 the bag saved the baby's life....
Dont worry honey, the main route is snowed over and closed. But the back roads will be passable.
The highway patrol should've blocked off those back roads as well on account of someone who might try to pull a stunt like they did
I was thinking the same thing. Seems every move made was the wrong one. I don't miss being young as far as the inexperience part goes.
Lol how did you know too?Rediculous ya think"
@lana lake or perhaps the ones that go on for countless miles 50 miles from nearest town in a snowy area...
@lana lake you literally just gave reasons for why they SHOULD block these roads off
I remember this when it happened! I'm a native Idahoan and was living 20 minutes from Pocatello back then. I remember the news was all over this and people were looking so hard to find them but the weather was rough that year.
I'm so glad they all made it. 😘😘
If you ever end up stuck in the snow like these guys you can very easily find some gravel and throw it under the tires it’ll give it something to grab onto. If you can’t find gravel take the car mats out and lay them beneath each tire. Also, even if you don’t have the proper tools to put the chains back on they can be used under the tires for traction.
Ex at least they were very brave to survive
Simplest solution, let air pressure out of tires.
Easy talk from your comfortable coach my dear. When you were in the same situation, would you do all the things you say.. I doubt it 🤔
@@casvastenburg8034 I'd of atleast let some air out.
I’ve used sticks before to the same effect
I was so concerned about the baby more than anything else... It really hurt my heart, how that tiny human being managed 9 days without sufficient food or water. I am super happy he turned out fine at the end.
@Angela Ross breast milk dries up without nutrients.
The body uses a lot of energy producing milk, if the mum isn't getting the food and water required, her body will start to fail and milk dry up.
Thanks. I’m doing much better now. But I was only the actor
Thing about babies that are less than a year old, from what I've seen in documentaries, is that it's believed they can survive on stored nutrients and such. Kinda like how in Mexico's 80s earthquake, a hospital collapsed and some newborn babies were able to survive days in the rubble without food.
@@AlphaOmegaKnight77658 interesting.
There was actually a full length movie about this couple, how the father walked some 40 miles in the snow to get help, leaving the wife and baby behind. Luckily, they all survived. The doctors at the hospital where they recovered said that the baby survived because its tiny body went into survival mode and brought its metabolism down to the lowest possible, conserving all the baby fat...the infant actually lost no weight, but of course the mom and dad lost plenty. Isn't mother nature amazing, and sometimes terrifying, so RESPECT her!
Thanks for this wonderful info Ryder!
Do you remember what the movie is called?
I’ve always been told that babies are able to withstand cold weather better than adults and now that makes more sense
@@jackarkel2051 the movie is called Snowbound The Jim and Jennifer Stolpa Story.
I don’t care what he tried to do. He willingly put his children in danger!
The fact that little baby was in those conditions for 9 days and came out with only diaper rash and dehydration really put things in perspective. You constantly hear of children being taken by child protective services in 10x worse condition than this. That's crazy!!!!
Dehydration is pretty serious.
Sometimes you watch something and don’t know what to say... I’m speechless. This is both terrifying and miraculous at the same time.... so glad they all came out alive... a parents love will do anything to save their child ❤️
Learning map reading don’t eat snow stay in car read simple parenting books as you wait for help.I don’t have any sympathy for them but got lot sympathy for child.granny was going nowhere .I saw film about them .if you feel need lose toes in conditions like that not taking basic food and water then go for it but leave child with someone who got one active brain cell
They are irresponsible parents.
Young and dumb .
Bet they'll never do that again 😂
How do you have a baby and still leave your house without food in your car
Claire Blue propaly has Breast milk still
They had food but for a week
@Angela Ross if the mother doesnt get nutrients then she cant produce milk.
she breastfed, it is lucky!!
The fact he was still breastfeeding ment food isn't the babys main food source. Trouble comes when the mother isn't getting the food and water she needs to produce the milk for the baby.
They set out not thinking they would end up driving off the highways and into snow covered wilderness. They planned for food for a matter of hours, not to be stranded for days.
They were foolish to even think they should attempt going out on such a drive in blizzards with a baby. I wouldnt leave my home in the first place in such conditions, but thats me.
The woman and the baby should have stayed in the car, and he should have traced their car tracks back.
My view too
That’s what I was thinking too plus the car was warm so baby can stay safe too and he wasn’t far from the Highway from where the car was
Well the two want as clever as you
They were guessing 60 miles back. That is a death sentence is sub temps with no food with or without a a baby.. Especially with out winter training skills. Like knowing conduction and convection,Eating snow will lower your core. You will die from hypothermia before dehydration. Ice coffins etc. The best thing is to just stay put if you are not certain.. It's almost impossible to be spotted from air. The car holds tools to start fires signal etc.
Absolutely 😭😭😭
Always be prepared, food, sleeping blankets, warm clothing, gps, backup phone, charging phones, spare fuel etc, fuel up every opportunity
It was 1992. There was no phone or accessible gps. Food, water, warm clothes is something every person that drives should have in there car. They still would have died eventually if they didn't go for help which is usually what not to do but when your out where no one really drives you have to leave for help.
They got lucky
You are 100 % right even when we go on a biker run like Sturgis or Daytona Beach or just riding in Arizona where we live. You can start out and it be 112 and by night it's dropped to the 70's or below you just never know. So never leave without supplies and always have a phone and extra battery's I don't know why they didn't listen to their families if they had they would not have gotten stuck I hope that they all survive !!!
Dave Norman op is just saying what we need to bring with us NOW, he didn’t say “those people should’ve had a phone or gps” and he’s right!!
They were headed to a funeral not some alpine adventure. Hind sight is always 20/20, considering this situation I think most people would be equally unprepared regardless of what you say.
You left out gun smh

@@vimetherandom gps in 1992?
1st mistake: never take a new road and drive in the dark (that why they get lost). 2nd: When get lost, mom and baby should stayed in the car, the dad should walk back the same road, with the map and road signs in the day light, he will know exactly where he is. 3rd: they wasted their time and strength just to play games! 4 They know the bad weather ahead but no food supplies, no survival kit, no communication ... especially they have baby 5- Stay in the car, with gas and battery still work, it means warm! .... Sorry for their stupidity!

Yes, they lucky there was no hungry Wolfs around!
The acting in these re-enactments are usually very exceptional. This one is no different. I really like this kind of content.

This is why im partially thankful for how my mom and i always pack up 10× more stuff than we need for road trips. Sure it may be a pain to carry but it means that if anything happens we can last longer as long as we dont eat and drink everything immediently.
The husband didn't listen not to mother nor to his wife...not even to know where he was going. Now they're stuck in the snow.
One bad decision after another. For a military guy he was not prepared at all. Rule No.1-never leave your car(same goes in any terrain/weather)-I'm an aussie and it is one thing u never do if lost/broke down. The car is easier to spot, gives you shelter and has survival resources. It's like these people left home without their common sense/logic.

I agree! There are other ways he could've paid his respects to his grandma such as sending flowers or maybe requesting a recorded version of the ceremony. In the end, they missed the funeral anyway! So, their trip turned out to be pointless. They got lost in the wilderness for nothing!
Right! I was really confused on why the heck they even left the car.

Totally agree.
Not sure. I bet there are parents who would badger their kids not to miss the family occasion. Sometimes the younger ones have more sense.
This story was crazy.
They were both irresponsible. The husband even more.
Its important to remember that simply melting snow in your mouth is not anywhere close to meeting the hydration threshold needed to stay alive, it's sort of a zero net gain thing. The energy needed to melt the snow with body heat expends more moisture than it gains. Include a stainless steel water bottle in your trouble kit in your car and a heat source like a propane or butane stove and a couple canisters of fuel plus a way to make a fire. Also, travelling with an infant, requires an elevated level of caution.
What if you put it in a bag and put it in your pocket in the car or something.. Would that work
@sabrina That can take a long time and is very dependent on the temp/weather in the environment. The commenters approach makes exponentially more sense than yours.
They say let bits of snow melt on your tongue a little at a time so that you can get water but do NOT eat it.
They could have all DIED over this mans stupidity and lack of COMMON SENSE!!! THIS STORY MAKES ME SOO ANGRY! SORRY!

Strange - I live where it never snows or gets really cold but from habit put in candles, tools, water, blanket, etc even for a 2hr trip in the summer.
Most of the world doesn't think ahead Heather and that is the main problem. People travel and think nothing will go wrong. Even day too day life, we never think ahead like what if coronavirus happens and we lose our job and should have rainy day funds.

In my opinion any man who gets his family that far off track, during a blizzard, needs a lesson in being a man. That being said, I’m so happy that they made it.
My thoughts exactly
From start to finish, I mean I’m a parent myself and if I knew weather was bad, plus had no way of communication I wouldn’t put my newborn child in that kind of danger ever.

@@ld5420 🤣🤣🤣
Glad they all survived. We can learn from their mistakes
We never learn, and we will continue them..again and again
As a mother, I just cannot fathom experiencing this situation with my infant don. Heartbreaking.
Same here. I always keep supplies in my car, including diapers/wipes, blankets, food/water, bottles...and I've had to use them, too!
Why call it heartbreaking?? They suffered, overcame, survived, and they're all doing well now (in spite of losing their toes). Most of us are pretty spoiled in Western society, when you have a near-death experience, or several, you learn to appreciate life and not assume it's going to be easy all the time. I don't blame you for not wanting to experience it with your son, but it didn't break their hearts, they are strong people and they love each other. I'm pretty sure they learned some valuable lessons from it... that's for sure!!! Don't be sad, they're OK!!
😉 PS. Remember, Life never guaranteed everything would be easy all the time, and how you respond to adversity says a lot about you. You can give up, or you can do what you have to do to survive and recover from things, as they have. ❤
I like HD quality, thank you for the upload! Hopefully you will reproduce all other episodes, it would be really worth to re-watch the entire series in quality like this.
How does a baby breathe in a sleeping bag zipped up?
It was to keep it warm
because oxygen can seep through a closed sleeping bag.

I feel like this episode is how the show really got its name. It's wonderful they survived, but wow, talk about making a series of what should have ultimately been fatal mistakes. With winter weather, if one road is closed, particularly the main one, expect others on the same mountain range to be closed or difficult. And although I grew up in the Colorado mountains, sometimes the best option is to just go back home no matter what event you are missing.
You are right but I mean, at age 20 and 21 they were basically still kids WITH a kid....
These disaster stories often start with one very bad decision.
With a wife and child, the number one priority is to protect them.
Other obligations do not matter when you've got such bad weather...
And the pride of people, and the arrogance, to just blunder forward, baby with them, instead of just staying in a motel and waiting.
They knew nothing about the area.
"THERE WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC" INDEED!
They didn't bother to tell anyone where they were, they didn't ask at a gas station about conditions ahead.
This happens when a man has to "be a man" and rely on only himself.
People have what I call "nature deficit disorder", where they're so out of touch with how reality can be, because they lack any experience, and they don't even know how badly ignorant they are.
@@frankG335 You are so right! In one of those episodes a couple got lost in the Amazon forest and the man was saying "Even if it takes 40 days I will cross the forest" and how stupidly naive, ignorant and plain dumb one has to be to think he can cross the rainforest, that is 17 times the size of England, by foot with no water, food, map or any local knowledge.
So easy for us to say at this point WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, but they were very young abs inexperienced. I’m sure they learned a lot from this!

I cannot believe the baby survived, I'm in complete shock at this whole entire episode. What a mess!
When they took the chains off😑
I'm not familiar with snow. Why do you put chains?
adi sh, mainly for traction. Work really well but shouldn’t be used at high Speeds. Buses and mail trucks always use them all the time around under here.
I live in snow country and owned a few 4x4 trucks and I,m a avid snowmobiler and Ice fisherman and never used chains. If the snow is to deep for 4wd then chains will not make a difference.
Chains are for 2wd cars.
I am in love with the baby😘
The husband eats all the food, waits for days and then tells the wife its best if they all walk out and write a will... OKAY
Amazing. They are so lucky to be alive. Always try to go prepared - food water the right clothes for everything. If possible breast feed until children are 2 so you always have food and water on hand for them too. I am so glad they all survived and well done to those local people for rescuing them.
They need way more nutrition and chewing skills than that. Breast feeding your baby past one year is ridiculous. 6 months is long enough.

This story really touched my heart
I could be mistaken but I specifically remember this episode being like a mashup of sorts where it featured Les Stroud in a similar situation as this couple and he showed us various survival techniques like burning a tire to make a smoke signal, cutting up the fabric of the truck seats to make snow boot insulation and building a fire to melt snow for water. If anyone can find this version of the episode please link it. That would be great.

what a strong and lucky couple - everybody makes mistakes in young ages - but now this 2 know, what was the wrong decisions.
both had to have their toes amputated. you have to cope with this disability until the end of your life
Both parent said don't come as the storm is coming and these are country roads. That not a wrong decision. It's wasent their choice. That playing hard head to your host house your staying at. And they know the country roads there, and guess what they were right the road was impassible shut down.
The least mr hard head could do is call them and say your were right, we be heading back home and call later. But no they decide to go all back roads. Even after not telling anybody. This is a 4 day trip. And no food. That why they took the chain off to go faster. I bet they slid off the road and didn't include that. They disobey order from both parents and even when back road. Of course you going to get stuck. That why you listen to folks who know there roads.
Never drive in secluded, empty road. Always think that your car will break and when that happens, you know you can look for people for help. Also another survival tip: never ever go out without a cellphone.

Oh, Man!! This one flat tore me up!! It must be the grandpa in me (Or Dad). When it comes to little guys, there is absolutely no limit to what I would do to make sure they were OK.
Just curious. Would you think to take the mother and child along with you instead of bringing help yourself, unhindered? Would you walk the same route you came or essentially walk the hills randomly?
All I know is these people are lucky to be alive
What an angelic sweet baby!!
The baby is their guardian angel💛
Born to really, really incompetent parents!
Thanks
I’m glad they made it alive, this story was very touched, it’s a miracle they made it but they did 🙂 last decision was key
Yay for Dave and Dusty ☀️ two heroes
