The main reason this guy prefers the 6k over the 4k is because of the native ef mount nothing more, all the features/pros/cons/color science are pretty much the same(95%identical), bashing the 4k in his previous video and it's all rainbows and sunshine with the 6k? People please note that with the 4k mft mount you can pretty much adapt any lens into the system, especially some of the newer cine models form Meike, SLR magic has proven to be great bang of the buck cine lenses for mft users. 6k ef mount would limit your options when it come to lenses and really slow you down with the huge data handling. Remember folks you're shooting in 12-bit raw with the 4k, the resolution debate is like arguing that iphone produces better videos with a proper video camera. THE COLOR SCIENCE AND 12-BIT RAW is more future proof over whatever you think 6k is going to give you. Buy this camera IF AND ONLY IF you already own a shit tons of canon ef lenses. If you really care about "future proof" at all, consider this: You DATE your cameras and you MARRY your lenses. Btw I don't intend to come off as a hater, just seem very biased
MFT is a great mount and it gives you so many options. If you already have MFT glass I would not switch. At the end of the day just get out there and create something with whatever you have to shoot with.
I had the 4K and now have the 6K and I completely agree with everything he said in this video at least a full stop more DR than 4K, at the very least and it's all in the highlights, even when shooting at iso400. with the 4K i had to be at iso800 for respectable performance on DR and that produced noisy footage. visibly sharper than the 4K providing you're shooting on the same glass much better colour science. this is a big one. no more yellow stain on my screen. if anything, it's still a bit warm but the blues come through cool and make the image look amazing. no more fn SB. i used the best money could buy from metabones and all my favourite wide lenses would fringe even when underexposed. that was very annoying using speedboosters.
It didn't seem biased. I understand that very well, you like to roll with canon lenses everywhere, great. The 6k has native mount, no headaches, smaller crop.
For me, I'm still super happy with my 4k (especially after the new firmware update). I don't have any issue adapting lenses or notice any real world image degradation. I want to shoot 4k in RAW (I still deliver most of my work in HD, with the occasional 4k project). I feel like the "future proof it" argument is a little silly with anything other than possibly stock footage if you're shooting really exotic locations and spending a lot of time and money to do it (although at that point you've probably got a RED or ARRI). You figure it'll be 4 to 6 years before 6 or 8k becomes close to standardized (HD is still the overwhelming standard viewing experience for most people). By that time...will your content be relevant? I know I rarely look back at...much less use projects over 4 years old. I may eat my words in a few years, but I think I'll be a lot happier buying 2 additional 4k bodies instead of a 6k body. . There really aren't any features I feel I'm lacking with the 4K that the 6K offers. That's just me though. I totally respect other filmmakers who feel differently.
@@BrianMakesFilms I believe the future proof argument is valid, but not vital. Sure, more people might have 6k and 8k displays in the future, but at the same time more people are consuming media using mobile devices. I feel like 4k is an excellent sweet spot between footage that looks very crisp when downsized to 1080p and footage that won't completely break apart if one of the few people with 5k-8k displays happens to watch it in that resolution. Also, I vaguely recall hearing (from Potato Jet?) that not all feature length films are even filmed in 4k; apparently some are filmed on as low as 2.7k (or something like that). So 4k might be more than enough if you want your project to look okay when projected onto a large screen. Overall, the more resolution you have access to and the hardware to handle, the better, but over a certain point it's probably not necessary. The story is still the most important component to filmmaking.
@@NabilKhanVisuals I purchased the 4K a couple weeks ago. I'm still contemplating whether to finish building it with a speed booster ($650), gimbal ($400-$500), and cage ($50-$100) or use the money to get the Canon EOS 90D I intended to pair the 4K with ($1200). Filmmaking is expensive man.
@@RaymondStone 100% agree! That's a great point. A lot of movie projectors still project 2.7K resolution and we're still a long way from having most theaters with 4K projectors. I screened a film in a theater that I'd shot in HD a few years back, and other than the screen being wider than the film, it looked fantastic.
I'm doing just fine with my 4k, actually really liking the MFT mount over EF, and the biggest issue is still always going to be the battery life which supposedly has not improved with the 6k from what I've heard. Also who the hell is going on any sort of shoot that's needing 6k over 4k and isn't already using something ridiculous like a Red/Arri Alexa? Let's be serious. Also, to clear it up just in case anyone is still confused: THIS IS NOT A CAMERA FOR VLOGGING OR SHOOTING WEDDINGS. This was designed with filmmaking in mind, to be used on a film set, rigged up to suit your needs.
Great video Max though, I respectfully disagree. I had the option between getting the 6K or the 4K and I went with the 4K. First, the 4K is around 1,000 dollars less than the 6K, meaning I can spend more money on nicer glass, which brings me to my second point, purchasing a speed booster. With the Metabones .64x Ultra, you get a 1.28x crop factor, which is less than the 6K plus, the speed of any attached lens is increased by 1.3 stops. I purchased a Sigma 18-35 with the Speed Booster Mentioned above and that those two pieces of glass plus the Pocket 4K Is around the price of the 6K body only. My third and final point for purchasing the 4K is file size. Recording 6K BRAW is eats up 500mb every two seconds. Huge file sizes mean spending more money in the long term and that is something I am trying to avoid. With the 4K, recording BRAW is less than half the size at around 200mb every two seconds. Another thing that is really important is the new version 6.6 update which gives added functionality and features
hey, thank for ur inputs. i am alsomstruggling between the 2 bodies but leaning toward to the 4k.. which media do you use for braw? ssd or cfast? is it worth buying cfast for it? any brand you tested? thanks a lot if you can add your thoughts. cheers!
What about the bokeh though. From what I know so far, m43 will always give less bokeh. Can you get near equivalent bokeh compared to a super35/aps-c sensor with a speed booster?
@@professionalpotato4764 Yes. With the right optics, you can get buttery bokeh. In my case, I used a speed booster and a lens that can get really shallow.
Max, love your content, but when you reviewed the bmpcc4k, you said the workflow was a pain when shooting weddings. I don't see how this would get any better with 2x the storage space for a downscale 4k or hd final delivery...
The lack of 4K raw isn't because BlackMagic "wants" users to shoot 6K. It is because raw necessarily represents the actual sensor readout resolution. And the actual sensor readout for this camera is 6K, not 4K. This cannot be fixed in firmware, so represents a major downside of any camera with a native 6K resolution. More resolution isn't always a good thing. And for many, the dedicated EF mount is also a large detriment, as it prevents the use of most vintage lenses, the EF flange distance being too large. Battery life is even worse on the 6K than the 4K. A separate power solution is even more necessary. So the costs for the 6K will for most, be substantially larger than those of the 4K. IMHO, most who don't need 6K resolution are better off with the BMPCC 4K.
The Pocket 6K still has the nicer image. Better color, better dynamic range at lower ISO range and sharpening halos seen on the Pocket4K don't really exist anymore.
@@DennisSchmitz All at a cost. Most aren't delivering in 6K, so lose the raw advantage. 6k file sizes are also twice as large so require heftier editing and storage systems. Again, making the 6K a much more expensive prospect. For those who really need 6K, it can make sense. For most others, the costs of 6K will outweigh the benefits.
@@jimhall1131 Yes, with a crop. But if forced to crop into the center of the sensor in order to achieve raw 4K, why select this camera? Far cheaper and easier to use the BMPCC 4K and it's full sensor readout 4K raw.
Although I believe the 6K is a great camera, I wouldn’t recommend it over the 4K to everyone. They both have their advantages, and serve different needs. I honestly think the 4K is a better value, but a native EF Mount has been really nice to have on the 6K. 4K75p is pretty sweet on the 4K though 😏 The 6K is a sweet camera though! Great video Max!
I think all the camera AKS still apply to the 6k as well so saying you need to buy all this extra stuff and its not needed with the 6k doesn't really make sense to me... the only thing the 6k doesn't need is a speed booster. otherwise you still need a cage, v mount, monitor etc. to get the most from either one.
Agreed. Lost all respect for the opinion of this youtuber. "A WAY better buy" "Here's why I think the Pocket 6K is a much better value than the 4K!" Completely misses that the 4K actually offers MORE advantage over the 6K with much more flexible codec , the wider angle/larger FStop with the speedbooster. The flexibility of lens choices and adapters... and of course the love the 4k got in the 6.6 patch. Having not bought either yet.. I have spent a LOT of time comparing... the 4K is the better camera... for me.. the only reason to buy the 6K is the punch in ability. And all this after he dumps on the 4K without saying it's not the best choice for run and gun weddings. Which I suspect is his main source of income.
@jdavidmusic You forgot to mention real depth of field* I say that because the speed booster glass is not high quality glass like they'd like you to believe; causes contrast loss, hazing, color cast that affects you colors, and reduces sharpness, particularly in the skin tones.
A very practical review. Thanks. I just went through the 4k vs 6k decision and when comparing apples with apples the 6k is the best buy for my work by far. Most reviews assume you will happily put an expensive adapter and the resulting extra glass on the 4k without a second thought. It is a bit like saying two cars are equivalent if you put a bigger motor in the cheap one. The 6k has a lot of advantages for the type of educational videos I do with no extras other than my existing stack of Canon lenses and batteries. At least in Australia the 6k was cheaper than the 4k once the mandatory adapter was included. In the end I have less stuff to worry about and I get a spectacular result.
The crop factor between the two cameras is not huge (1.6 vs 1.9). The only big real difference is the 6k vs 4k. Everything else is the same. Between the huge price difference (double the price for the 6k), AND the fact that you're literally stuck with EF lenses only on the 6k (MFT can mount almost anything in existence), the 4k is a much, much better deal. I would never advise people to get the 6k over the 4k for these reasons. And if you're doing narrative filmmaking, you need to be softening your footage anyway in post to resemble film, so that dulls the need for 6k anyway. Nobody really asked for a bmpcc6k, despite BMD's claims. People were asking for ibis, autofocus, tiltable screen, and better battery life. Watch every single review of the bmpcc4k and that's the only thing they were asking for. Not a 6k camera. BMD released this as an answer to the new ZCam S35 and to the industry moving towards larger sensors in general. But overall, price-wise and lens-wise, the 4k makes much more sense.
"People were asking for ibis, autofocus, tiltable screen, and better battery life." This is a cinema camera so I doubt BM cares about any of those things.
For double the price I personally think the 6k is overkill for most indie filmmakers...get the 4k, a viltrox (or used metabones), and build a smallrig...rig and you have everything you need to get started
A comparison to a mainstream 4K mirrorless camera like the Sony A7III or the Fuji X-T3 would be nice. It's obvious that the video out of the BM is far superior but mirrorless cameras have their own advantages as well, so it would be nice to see what kind of a trade-off one takes when going for one of them instead of the BM.
Aside from the price of maybe a speedbooster (to adapt glass and provide better fields of over the 6K), the 6K still needs all of the same rigging as the 4K camera. It's also going to chew through hard drives like they are going out of style. So I am not understanding your contradiction. How can the 6K be that much better and cheaper if it still needs all of the rigging of the 4K and additional drive space beyond that? In my mind the entire setup will cost more and require a much more robust PC to process the footage. Cheers, Greg
Sounds like a pre 6.6 update video, at 9:00 you will still need all those for the 6K too with exception to the focal reducer. but on the plus side you get 1 extra stop of light.
So the only reason to get the 6k over the 4k is the lense mount and 6k? This review is so lackluster. I have EF lenses and i think Mft is the best thing to ever happen to the cinema world. This constant race for better numbers only makes the newbies who don't really shoot for a living happy. I will always go for the usable camera over the camera with a bit more pixels. Workflow is king.
The EF mount is the exact reason why I will not get this. There isn't much that can be adapted to it so it only makes sense to those who already invested a lot into EF glass and are stuck with it.
@@daviddejuannavarro291 Only lenses with a bigger diameter and flange distance can be adapted to EF, otherwise you run into vignette or focus issues unless the adapter includes correcting optics. Hence most EF adapters go from EF to something smaller. Most DSLR mounts and any glass for mirrorless cameras are completely out of the question now, even if for full frame.
@@Philafxs this is strange because I have an URSA G2 with EF mountt and have mounted PL, L and even F mounts with no issues whatsoever. These cameras have no auto-focus so communicating with the lens is not an issue, haven't seen any vignettes so far. I am not saying that there are no lenses out there that might cause some issues, but I wouldn't dismiss this camera because of the mount in all honesty.
@@Philafxs SL mount is full frame, also this camera has a sensor slightly bigger than a n APS-C sensor which means that you could use TL mounts if you have the adapters. Altho correct me if I am wrong.
Hello, I see your video was shot from a bird's eye view. Tell us how you shot using the 🎥blackmagic 6K camera? Have you tied the camera to a quadrocopter?
Completely depends on your needs. I would like the 6k because the color science as well as the dynamic range. The sensor is just better. Otherwise the EF mount sucks for most people. If it was an M43 mount we could adapt a speedbooster and get a full frame 6k camera. I also which you could do 4k RAW without cropping as well as 1080p. That makes the Pocket 4k more desirable as 4K raw is more manageable. That said the P4K image just isn't there. If you only shoot RAW you can get around the crappy color and clipping issues but its nice to be able to just shoot prores sometimes. I might end up getting the Sigma FP. Looks like it can do 4k 12 bit RAW directly to an SSD (NO external recorder needed)
As a 6k owner, the autofocus is not a big deal. there's a button that allows you to set your focus before you shoot. it takes 1 maybe 2 seconds. if that's too long for you, maybe you're better off with a canon eos R. otherwise, you can use manual focus with the focus assist option to help you nail it. there's no excuse to not nail focus on this tiny beast.
There's so many things going on and requiring attention and always breaking with 1000's of items on the todo list, just put a Sigma 18-35 on this camera and you're done with this one small problem. That's why the mount is good.
Thanks a lot for this review ! Only one question, I received my bmpcc6k, and I hear the fan, with a little buzz. Same for you ? Thanks for your return Best regards
I have the same problem with mine... does yours sound like this? ua-cam.com/video/ezjPQ2K-xc8/v-deo.html It's a lot loader than the BMPCC4K I previously had. Seems that there is a whining sound on top of the regular airflow...
@@tijmenbrouwers Hello, yes same sound. It's normal. I sent mine to Black Magic and their control is Ok. It's because a lot of stuff in a small box :-) With an external microphone, no problem, but when I record with internal microphone I hear the little buzz. I Hope it will be useful to you Sorry for my English
@@guillaumeceratimagicien mhh the clip I sent was with an external shotgun microphone (sennheiser MKH 416) on top of the camera. With yours you don't hear that buzz when attaching the external mic? BTW this is how it sounds with the mic placed at different distances from the camera. Even at 1.5 meters away it's noticeable... ua-cam.com/video/qZPsH1-LyAY/v-deo.html
@@tijmenbrouwers When my room is totally silent, I hear the fan of the camera. But for sure, I recognize this sound. I have the same. I did a short movie with this camera and in post-production, I didn't hear the sound of fan, because other sounds in the room. In extreme case, you can reduce the gain of your mic and/or reduce the buzz sound with a "Pass filter" in post-production. At the beginning, i'm really surprised by this "big" sound. The Black Magic company assured me that this was normal.
@@guillaumeceratimagicien thanks a lot for sharing your experience, really helps a lot. I've been going through some comment sections of reviews on youtube and posts in facebook groups about this issue. It seems that experiences are quite divergent on this. For instance someone mentioned this in a facebook comment: "No issues with mine, and I would definitely noticed, being i shoot a good bit with a shoulder rig setup, that places the cam directly on my shoulder and basically against my ear." If I place the camera directly against my ear I can definitely hear the high buzzing sound... The customer service at BM said: "The noise you are hearing sounds like the unit is performing within expected tolerances and there does not appear to be anything wrong with your camera." Don't really know what to think of this.
my thoughts exactly. at least a full stop more DR than 4K visibly sharper than the 4K and the scarlet w 5K providing you're shooting on the same glass much better colour science - not yellow piss any longer - and very close to RED if you change the hue slightly, pushing yellows more towards green and lowering sat on reds, although as it is it can look better than RED in most situations, esp skintones
Have you had any aperture issues with your BMPCC 6k? I got one for Christmas and paired it with a Sigma 1.8 Art lens, and the camera seems to think the lens will go to 1.7. Tried other lens and found that the BMPCC 6k consistently gets the max/min f stops wrong. Not sure if I got a lemon or if this is just the way things are with Black Magic cameras.
Snow in October = Cool. Heat in So-Cal still in October does not = Cool. Literally ;) I would rather be in Spokane right now and yeah I know I am being weird to some. (: Max great review as always. I think you all meant to say 1440P not 1040P when you were talking about UA-cam bit rates. I may of course be wrong. Thanks Max and team again for another great review.
Max , I just got this 6k camera but I’m trying to adjust to the manual focus. I usually shoot Sony so I’m used to autofocus. How do you focus with this camera , let’s say if you are moving forward following somebody?? Like In a wedding following the bride while she walks down the aisle for example. I’m Trying to master the manual focus on this camera.
its a reason for the price different and u need to explain that. The bmpcc is a stripped down version with great quality but its missing alot of practical things you'll need to get it working the same as the others.
I really wish Netflix Studios would approve this as a primary camera. Then again, the Panasonic S1H is a more compelling package that is also a pretty damn capable as a photo camera as well. And it's full frame.
The 6K recovers under/overexposure WAY better than the 4K, while maintening color accuracy. Watching comparison with Arri Alexa and many RED cameras, this is crazy impressive (better, actually... maybe because of the dual iso). That’s the deciding argument for me (with the bigger sensor, resolutions and lens mount). The 0,3 stop of extra DR in the highlights is also noticeable in some scenarios.
Thanks for the video Max. I am amazed at the quality of this camera. Great shots of a beautiful place. I saw you filmed with BMPCC 6K handheld. How could you see what was on the camera screen? I have tried shooting outside but could not use it because I could not see anything.
Hello. I have a big issue with the BMPCC 6K and I noticed that you have one. Can you please create a entire tutorial about the different files format and when and how to use it. Is so difficult to understand, My videos looks shappy it looks like is to fast, I don't know, the images are not fluid. Can you please create a super nice and long tutorial? there is no tutorial like that in no where, no youtube no vimeo no nothing. Please and thank you. If can get into all the details but in this camera as well like the 3.1 4.3 12.1 all those stuff. If you can add a mini tutorial in how you import files to Davinci and how you grade the it will be great. Thank you so much. I do really need help with this camera please
Great stuff Max! I've been so burned by black magic in the past- with issues ranging from quality, to being over a year late in shipping items like the Ursa mini (and a few others if I recall) I went to Sony a while ago. I really like BMD, and the 6k Pocket might be the thing that sways me back. Nice breakdown of features. -S
New and looking at a camera for video and stills. I don't believe that either the 6k or 4k has internal stabilization? Does anyone have any feedback on this?
ahh, the infamous "B-Roll" again. Very popular term that no ones knows what to think about it. :) Clarification: "B-Roll" footage is footage that you "can" but don't need to cut in. Its just some ... beauty-make-up for your video. Footage that is necsassary to basically portrait what you want to say with your video, no matter if someone is talking in it or not is not B-Roll. Matti Hapooja always gets that wrong.
Color science on the Pocket 6K is definitely closer to real life than on the Pocket 4K. Noticed it working on my Lut. The Pocket 6K needs way less corrections. 55media.net/55m-p4k-color/
Hey Max, I dont have the "Apply Lut" option in the RAW tab in davinci... braw file from the bmpcc4k. could it be that i dont have the studio version of resolve?
Can you do video editing comparison of macbook pro 15 2016 vs latest version on macbook pro, there is nothing like this on youtube, and o think many people including me would to see this comparison
The difference in the look is minor for the audience. And by next year these camera companies are really gonna be competing and your gonna wish you waited on the bigger purchases. Unless you got it $$$ to get what you want. The 4k will make you enough money until the real competition starts next year
The 6k is nice yes, but the 6k does not have 4k raw. that means that when I buy the 6k and I dont want to fuck my drive with 100mb/s I have to shoot in pro res and I hate pro res. Because of that the 4k is the way better choice for me. and when I want 6k in the future I just buy the 6k and use my rig with the new camera because my rig is like tripple the worth of the camera
Didnt really learn much abt why the 6k is better than the 4k. Wud hv been better if u didnt dwell on the codec ( which is the same as the 4k) too much and just focus on the advantages of the 6k over the 4k, especially the image quality and dynamic range.. But hey..u r doin it for free.. and hope to see another video on the aforementioned things soon..
Hey man, regarding playback in resolve: what I’ve been doing is coloring clips and then creating color caches in realtime (dnxhd or prores). That way you’re editing with proxies but can make color adjustments as needed and it updates the proxy file on the fly.
Max. Can you do a video showing your workflow that allows you to finish editing in FCPX? This is what has deterred me from jumping to BlackMagic from Panasonic. I like ProRes and FCPX. How painful is it to have to use DaVinci Resolve first? Thanks
If you're looking for AF you should not be looking at BM or most other cinema Cameras. Sony just released their documentary style FX9 or Canon C line.. that's the way to go. Or if image quality is not an absolute priority, Sony or Canon mirroless hybrids will do just fine.
Aleksandar Kuraica blackmagic has a recommendation list. I tried the Sandisk 128gb works great with BRAW 12:1. Higher than that you’re going to drop frames. Hope this helps.

@@andrewnussbaum9576 Speedboosters significantly reduce sharpness. I find most can't even resolve a full 4k image optically.
Max, love your content, but when you reviewed the bmpcc4k, you said the workflow was a pain when shooting weddings. I don't see how this would get any better with 2x the storage space for a downscale 4k or hd final delivery...
obviously a biased review, the 4k it's much more versatile in terms of lenses and with speedbooster you have less crop
@@Trevellian totally agree, 4K all the way or it adds up wayy more for storage and a system to edit it on
@@Trevellian If the BlackMagic 6K can do 6K, 5.7K, 3.7K, and 2.8K in raw, it can certainly do 4K. Though it would have to be windowed.
Wait...is 4K75p available on the 4K model after the firmware update?
@@RaymondStone Yep, as well as 2.7k 120fps.
how can 4k be better than 6?
You can use the ronin-s for 2 hours as a battery solution; just probably recommend buying another 1 or 2 DJI ronin battery grips.
can be quite a hassle if you want to use it handheld. I still prefer npf batteries solution
Was this review done before the 6.6 update
Are you serious? Some of the same things you stressed you didn't like about the 4K didn't just magically disappear with the 6K!! Come on man stop it.
As always biased
Smh at the flip flop. maybe its because its more money and that means a little more commission!
@@jdavidmusic He's a sell out, the casual "but I got a family to feed" argument.
@jdavidmusic You forgot to mention real depth of field*
I say that because the speed booster glass is not high quality glass like they'd like you to believe; causes contrast loss, hazing, color cast that affects you colors, and reduces sharpness, particularly in the skin tones.
But overall, price-wise and lens-wise, the 4k makes much more sense.
the mft mount on the 4k sucks
"People were asking for ibis, autofocus, tiltable screen, and better battery life." This is a cinema camera so I doubt BM cares about any of those things.
@@jimhall1131 that's not what the actual users of it reported on their reviews
@@WaveRiderMusic not it doesn't. It's a standard mft mount
yes it is loose, good luck using a follow focus with a long lens. I just returned mine. I compared with the same lens on a GH5, it was rock solid.
For double the price I personally think the 6k is overkill for most indie filmmakers...get the 4k, a viltrox (or used metabones), and build a smallrig...rig and you have everything you need to get started
“If you’re serious about filmmaking, skip the 4k”

shouldn't the clients decide weather they are going to view your stuff on their 8K cellphone screens??
@@dongerramarco9617 8K footage still translates better to a 4K display than 4K footage.
4:48 No stabilization in post here LOL!
Cheers,
Greg
That footage looked so good
Yes, footage looked great! Then I checked UA-cam and I was watching it at 720p. :)
Workflow is king.
please do a comparison video of sony a7siii and Blackmagic pocket 6k
The EF mount is the exact reason why I will not get this. There isn't much that can be adapted to it so it only makes sense to those who already invested a lot into EF glass and are stuck with it.
I don't understand. There are all sort of adapters to ef mounts.
@@daviddejuannavarro291 PL and F are bigger than EF, but.. L?
Amazing video! What app did you used on your computer for editing ?
There's so many things going on and requiring attention and always breaking with 1000's of items on the todo list, just put a Sigma 18-35 on this camera and you're done with this one small problem.
That's why the mount is good.
Thanks a lot for this review !
Only one question, I received my bmpcc6k, and I hear the fan, with a little buzz.
Same for you ?

@@guillaumeceratimagicien thanks a lot for sharing your experience, really helps a lot. For instance someone mentioned this in a facebook comment:
"No issues with mine, and I would definitely noticed, being i shoot a good bit with a shoulder rig setup, that places the cam directly on my shoulder and basically against my ear."
If I place the camera directly against my ear I can definitely hear the high buzzing sound...
The customer service at BM said: "The noise you are hearing sounds like the unit is performing within expected tolerances and there does not appear to be anything wrong with your camera."
Don't really know what to think of this.

at least a full stop more DR than 4K
visibly sharper than the 4K and the scarlet w 5K providing you're shooting on the same glass
much better colour science - not yellow piss any longer - and very close to RED if you change the hue slightly, pushing yellows more towards green and lowering sat on reds, although as it is it can look better than RED in most situations, esp skintones

Great video! What iso did you use on the night shots at the carnival?
Love that you got out after the snow storm and got those shots. I was part of the restoration efforts with Avista and boy was it nuts.

I really wish Netflix Studios would approve this as a primary camera.
Then again, the Panasonic S1H is a more compelling package that is also a pretty damn capable as a photo camera as well. And it's full frame.
This camera is surprising everyday! Love that black magic has updated both the 4K and 6k. Coming from the Sony’s i can see the pros and cons.
Hey Max I am a bit confused about what you said at the end. If you have a monitor, cage and external battery etc what the 6K not need it ?
The 6K recovers under/overexposure WAY better than the 4K, while maintening color accuracy. Watching comparison with Arri Alexa and many RED cameras, this is crazy impressive (better, actually... maybe because of the dual iso). That’s the deciding argument for me (with the bigger sensor, resolutions and lens mount). The 0,3 stop of extra DR in the highlights is also noticeable in some scenarios.
I like the 4k version better than the 6k one :)

It’s an interesting camera nonetheless, the BM RAW codecs seems to be a balanced solution.
If you're looking for AF you should not be looking at BM or most other cinema Cameras. Sony just released their documentary style FX9 or Canon C line.. that's the way to go. Or if image quality is not an absolute priority, Sony or Canon mirroless hybrids will do just fine.
